I'm really giving Sonic five stars. Here's why: On the drive from San Francisco to LA, I got really hungry as we were sitting in mid-morning traffic. We came across this Sonic (conveniently enough, it would become my first Sonic experience ever) and I handed over all the change I had in my bag just to get this single crispy chicken sandwich. I don't even think I looked at the menu board. I just needed this sandwich desperately, like only people on road trips need sandwiches desperately. It tasted homemade, I swear. It's not just the hunger talking - it really was warm, juicy, and tender in a way that I've only ever dreamed of from a fast food chain. I would do it again, and then do it some more. read more

This is a love hate story. I was driving to LA #roadtrip... About to go on the spree of my lifetime. We stopped at Sonic. The food was dank. We ordered, drove up to the window to pay, I handed the girl my credit card, she gave us our food- said "Thank you, have a nice day", and shut the drive through window. Fast forward {two days into LA} I can't find my credit card a n y w h e r e *it was at Sonic* I was afraid I may have flopped it on the Hollywood boulevard or got pick pocketed on Squid Row. Unable to shop, in a crisis, losing sense of my identity, afraid someone is walking around with my credit card- I curl up in a ball and sob. Fast forward {end of my trip} - Now I seriously cannot find my card or access the Wells Fargo Banking App. Driving back home north, on a whim, my partner suggests we call Sonic because that is the last place we remember using my card. This is where the story makes full 360. Chapter 2. Sonic Relief We call Sonic and ask with little to no hope if my credit card was at Sonic. Over the phone, it sounded like the girl who had originally taken our order (the original Sonic order, two weeks prior). She told us that Sonic did indeed have my credit card. She was so sweet and apologetic and assured us that it was in a safe place there if we wanted to pick it up. I screamed. Wow. Two weeks later and they held on to my card. I was so glad I didn't cancel it and there were not fraudulent charges. On the way home, we easily picked it up, ordered some food, and got two free milkshakes. It was pure, unadulterated redemption. And this Sonic, at this specific location has the most upstanding, down to earth, sicko mode staff and they all deserve bonuses, raises, and promotions. xx Thank you Sonic read more

In the drive thru, the car in front of us took a long time before moving. By the time we pulled up, waited, waited and waited for someone to at least say "Welcome to Sonic, we'll be right with you in a second" even after I said Hello to get their attention, I realized what took the car in front of us so long. With that car and a car at the pick up window in front of us and several cars behind us, I didn't want to seem like I was the one holding up the line, but I thought about exercising the little amount of patience that remained. Then my wife told me that the guy took the longest time to acknowledge them the last time. Oh "This happened TWICE?!" We never found out if it was a guy this time. Exited drive thru. Yay for my grape slush & peach iced tea. Yay for happy hour =). My burger was goood, the onion rings I personally am not a fan of. It was really sweet. Idk, weird to me. I'll be back when I'm in the area but I'm not DYING for one to be put in SJ and I'm not willing to drive from Sunnyvale all the way here for a burger or slush. Now I don't know anything about the food here but my friend and I stopped by during a road trip down to Los Angeles and we were amazed by how inexpensive the slushes were and their amazingly large assortment of flavors and types of them. I ended up getting the blue raspberry slush with the jolly rancher bits and it was amazing and I am still in shock in how it's only $2. The novelty as well of the whole drive in part and employees on roller skates who deliver the food to your car was great! read more

I have lived in this town my entire life and would visit this location with my family when we wanted to celebrate with a treat. Yesterday evening after after a long drive my mom and I decided to stop before heading home. We asked nicely for no cherries on our milkshakes. It was clear that they had put cherries on the top of our milkshake but then removed them. No problem, we didn't say anything. After a few sips we noticed weird chunks. The employees puts a handful of cherries at the bottom of our milkshakes and blended them. Stem and everything. Absolutely ridiculous! What if we had a food allergy?? This place is horrible. Admit it. We've all seen their delicious commercials all over TV, bragging about their famous Sonic Blast. So, when I stumbled upon the ever so rare (weird, right?) location in Gilroy the other day (was on the way to LA), I decided it's time to try this. Ordered the bacon toaster cheeseburger with a side of chili cheese tater tots. And of course ... I got the Oreo Sonic Blast. Eh. The burger was ok, nothing too out of this world. The tater tots were hard to eat - soggy and not to mention there were like five tater tots in a size MEDIUM. And the SONIC BLAST ... you killed it for me. So disappointing. The whipped cream was all over, the blend was mediocre, and our server (the drive-in and the roller blades are quite interesting, i must say) gave us the drink with ice cream spilled all over the side. To say the least, I was disappointed. BUT, I guess I can't expect TOO much out of a fast food chain? It's a regular stop on my way to LA or back from LA only because of its location and the eats on the 5 are either McDonalds or Taco Bell ... so I guess I'd choose Sonics. I was so excited when I found out Sonic was coming to Gilroy. I've eaten at many different locations in CA & out of state but this one is the worst one I've tried. I ordered a vegetarian Breakfast Toaster that came with tater tots. This was just before noon and there were only 5 other cars in the lot. It took awhile for my food to come out and when it did, it was cold :-( . Did they make it & then leave it sitting out??? I was bummed. The cheese wasn't even melty. Instead of complaining about it (I'm always afraid of them spitting in my food LOL), I just ate it. My 2nd visit there, I ordered popcorn chicken. Ugh, it was all batter! Where's the meat?!?! That order, also, did not come out hot. It was warm but barely. What's up with cold food???? 2 stars for their cherry limeade. It was really refreshing. YES! I don't have to take a road trip to Tracy for Sonics anymore! I like the whole style of the place. Driving into your station, and having somebody on skates bring you the food. I've always loved that about Sonics. I went here after finding out they actually had one in Gilroy, the gf and I were on our way to Monterey, and figured we should stop to eat. I had the SuperSONIC Cheese burger with tater tots (WOO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL!) and the gf had the popcorn chicken with fries. The burger was good, and I thought the tots were awesome. Went to the gilroy outlets and since we were already out here we thought we would go to sonics because its the closest one we know of. We ordered 2 chili cheese coneys, regular tots, sweet potato tots, the ched r' poppers, cherry lime aid and their ocean water. One of the coneys we had asked for onions, when our order was brought to us there were no onions on it. And we hadn't realized it until our "waiter" left. We called him on the speaker and asked for onions, he brought them without any grief and apologized for the mistake. We had also asked for ranch as well and that took him a minute to bring, again he apologized. After he left again we realized we didn't have any napkins either and just said forget it. He had already been back and forth numerous times, so try not to make a mess. We got this drink called "ocean water" which has a tangy flavor with a hint of coconut. It was really good! The cherry lime aid was on point, the chili cheese coneys were really good too, both the regular and the sweet potato tots were amazing! After this trip I may never get regular tots again! The sweet potato tots were simply to die for. And the ched r' peppers were also really good but I highly advise you to wait a bit to start grubbin on them as the cheese inside is extremely hot! Went into the drive thru line and waited no one would answer, when asked hello wait for 10mins no answer,then ended up in a stall. This place is horrible service took them 40mins to get 3 drinks and a order of popcorn chicken out to us. It took them 2o mins to just have someone answer and take an order. I do not know why I come back to this place. If you come here just make sure you have time to just sit and wait a hell of a long time before you get any service. I do not know how this place is still open maybe because it's the only thing on the way back from L.A and people are starving so they will deal with the horrible service. read more

They now serve garlic fries, which is totally fitting being that they are in Gilroy :) Drinks are the BEST.. cherry limeade, strawberry limeade, shakes, java chillers are all good. Ughh, friggin Sonics commericals man...why do they have to make their food look so good on TV, but when you actually do eat it, it really isn't? I really wanted to like this place, but (almost) everything was just wrong... My bf and I ate out on the patio, so the staff would roll out in their blades while carrying the customers' food. Since we were sitting at the patio, there's a menu you could order from, and then a button you can press so someone could take your order...this is where the downfall began... -My bf ordered a number 6 pretzel dog with a pineapple shake and tots and 4 mozzarella sticks. I ordered the sonic burger with tots and a banana cream pie shake...we told her the order would be under JOSEPH's name... Ten minutes later, one of the staff comes out with food, and for a good two minutes he was yelling out for a Justin...when he finally came to our table, we told him more than likely he's looking for Joseph, and surely enough he read over the orders, and we confirmed them with him. Ok fine, so I let that go...so when we open up our food, my bf tells me they gave him the wrong hot dog...luckily our server was nice enough to replace it immediately. If that wasn't bad enough already, my burger was friggin cold in some parts of the burger, my tots weren't crunchy, and my banana cream pie shake didn't taste like banana cream pie at all! As much as I wanted to confront the staff about it, I saw that they were super busy, and I myself, was super tired and hungry, so I just let it go. These guys are good workers but are understaffed esp on the weekend. They need better managers to hire more people. Felt extremely bad for the workers who were running around trying to accommodate a lot of customers. Our order came out wrong but they fixed it with no issues & were very nice. Finally, A Sonic in the South Bay Area! Love the food, inexpensive and good. Great Tater Tots! Great cheap Banana Splits too. The place is huge, A lot of parking spaces. There are 2 menu boards and 7 benches for walk up / outdoor dining orders. We used the walk up since eating in a little Compact car isn't the most comfortable. There is no indoor seating. It was a little tough to find, Warning for future diners... The address is listed as Camino Arroyo but it's really just off Highway 152. (Near Silacci Way?) It's on the right hand side as you go East on 152. From 101 We turned right on Camino Arroyo into the shopping complex but saw no sign of Sonic! We asked directions and were told to go a little further down 152. There is a Entrance / Exit on your right but you can only make a right turn exiting back on to 152 East. (A left turn would be crazy on the busy street anyways). If you miss the entrance off 152 just continue to the next light and make a right turn and drive thru the lots. There is no left turn lane into Sonic from 152 West. Westbound Drivers who spot the Sonic building must make a U turn at the Camino Arroyo light to get back or turn left on the street before. Leaving Sonic, it's easiest to drive thru the Tractor business lot and make a left at the side street (Silacci Way?) and use the signal lights to get back to 152 West. read more

The legendary Sonics that everyone sees the commercials of, but has never seen one in their life. Yep, true for me too, but on the most recent trip back up the coast, we stopped by here for dinner. True to the drive-in name, we parked in a spot next to the menu, ordered into the speaker, and had our food brought up to us by a girl on rollerblades. The boy had the super sonic burger and vanilla malt, I got the extra-long chili coney (lol at the name.. it was basically an extra long chili cheese dog) and chocolate malt, and we shared tater tots. The malts were definitely delicious... the coney was super salty for some reason. The burger was pretty standard for fast-food. I guess it was kind of just really expensive fast food, but there was the novelty of just finally getting to try it. I can't begin to count how many Sonic commercials I've watched in my life that have tormented me because I have never been able to actually eat at Sonic due to locational challenges. We finally came here for lunch on a shopping time out from Gilroy. It was a debate if we wanted to get the full experience by ordering and eating in the car. We parked in a non-ordering stall and walked outside and were surprised there was no regular ordering and eating inside restaurant. You actually couldn't go in at all. Rather, there's a place outside where you can order and tables for you to eat at. There were three options for ordering and eating. 1. Order from and eat in the car 2. Drive through 3. Order and eat outside I was kind of shocked. It was a little windy that day so we decided to get back in the car and find ourselves an ordering stall. The process is fairly simple and easy. You press the red button, order your food and stick in your credit card. You get a receipt an in no time flat, your food is being delivered. The only hangups we had were the lady we ordered from kept asking us to wait while we ordered-it was like she was having a hard time processing each food item. Also, the server forgot to bring us napkins but remembered 8 packets of ketchup for my chicken burger. We didn't order fries, mind you. I like how breakfast is served all day and of course the drink menu is pretty extensive. They have a bit more options than other places: burgers, hot dogs, chicken, tater tots, mozarella sticks, corn dog, grilled cheese, etc. I ordered a lemon slush and it tasted like a liquidly shave ice or snow cone. It was delicious. For $1.69, it's kind of a deal. During happy hour when all the drinks are half off, you really can't go wrong. Some slush flavors also come with nerds. Wholy moly. Back to asia-go, I mean a-si-a-go. My asiago grilled chicken sandwich was pretty good. I would have loved the bun to be toasted, but that's another story. Barely 3 stars. My husband, sister and I headed down to L.A. for the holidays to visit our family and had their tater tots on the way there. They were delicious so we decided to have dinner here on the way back home today. ICK! This time the tater tots were not fresh. Even worse was the popcorn chicken. Cold and not crunchy. Their Sonic cheeseburger was nothing special and although I like the chopped onions I can imagine it's a bit much for others. We were also disappointed with the rootbeer float that barely had any rootbeer in it at all. I'm not sure we will stop by here on our next road trip. Finally! After years of watching Sonic commercials shown in the SF Bay Area, where there are none, I found this one after driving up from SoCal. I had the SuperSONIC® Bacon Double Cheeseburger which was an excellent burger, really great, juicy, fresh ingredients. In fact, one of the best fast-food burgers I've had; better than the In and Out double and as good as the Five-Guys double. However, the Crispy Chicken Sandwich was not very good. It was far too dry with too little mayo to help out. I loved the drive-in parking spots that you order and even pay right there while parked and the order is delivered on roller-blades. I had heard so many people get so excited about having a Sonic in town and maybe the hype was too much and I built it up too much. The food is mehh, even for "fast" food and I say "fast" because it's not that fast. Tots are decent but they had little to no slat on them, more salt would have made them better for sure. The drink are a deal if it's happy hour 2-4 everyday, and the shakes are a deal if it's after 8pm when they are half price. That being said I wouldn't pay full price for one but if you need a late night sugar fix then it is hard to beat a medium shake that is under $2.50 and their medium is a good size. The whip cream is not cream at all and mostly tastes like chemicals. A bonus is that you can add oreo to any shake for a small price. The food I would skip, the shakes after 8pm only besides that it's not really worth the drive almost out of town for me anyways. The food definitely fits the whole atmosphere of the Sonic experience. Theres really nothing special about the food other than the many varieties of drinks and desserts. I'm rating this a 10 because I'm currently pregnant and getting in and out of the car is so tiring, this place is awesome, no need to get out of the car to taste the food, and i ain't talking about drive thru. The whole experience was cool, park in a stall, press the order button, and the menu is right in front of you, then a waiter in roller blades/skates comes and brings you your food! GENIUS!!!! I felt like i was in the 50s. I didn't have to worry about the car next to us seeing me stuffing my face with a sonic burger, because they couldn't see me with their menu next to their car. Third time stopping in to eat and drink. The first time was great around 10 years ago and the last two time within 30 days was bad. The kid was charging me the regular price when the sign stated half off after 5:pm on some food items. The burgers were cold and the cheap cheese was not melted, the strawberry cheese cake drink was served warm with a sour taste. This used to be one of my family's favorite places to eat. Today, 7-18-21was the worst experience we've ever had. We waited for 15-20 minutes in one of the pull-in stalls just to find out later it didn't work. We got in the huge, slow, drive through line which took another 40 minutes. Half of our order was wrong, the grilled cheese sandwich was 2 smashed hamburger buns with a small amount of cheese. It was dry and disgusting. After the long wait I wasn't about to return the stuff. Three cars waited behind us for at least another 5 minutes before pulling up to the maim window to find the service worker saying their mic isn't broken. This is such a strange setup. We did the walk up and pushed the shiny red button. This voice appeared and was like "what can I get you?" The menu looks so good, but you have to play the game right and order what you can eat. Try not to go over the top. Since I was already full for some reason I had their hot fudge sunday, mozzarella sticks and a cherry lime aid. All were decent, but not like OMG great. I must have been living under a rock; how have I never tried a Sonic's before until today?? Though I am a loyal In-N-Out girl, I was pretty giddy with excitement to roll up in my car to a Sonic's stall. The whole vibe of the place is a fun, retro drive-in burger joint - the speaker box to order, colorful display menu, roller girls and guys that deliver your food. I've never enjoyed receiving a strawberry milkshake and tater tots so much! For a simple burger joint (the selection of burgers, wings, onion rings, tots, etc.), they have an extensive list of drinks, shakes, slushes, sodas, and limeades! I couldn't tell whether I was thirsty or bloated from just reading the entire menu. Since my friend came home to visit for the weekend from Chicago, my boyfriend and his friends decided to get food with him here late at night.
