Despite it being a little far from where I live at, I would say I like going to this drive-in fast food, especially after a good hike. Service is fast. If you really shakes, they have so many selections. It's not hard to order and place is big enough. They used to be good..... the last two times we tried to stop here were the worst!! First or limeade was sprite with no syrup or limes and when we sent it back it came out the same way even though we explained why we sent it back. This second time they were packed, fine no problem to wait. The bathrooms are now permanently closed due to vandalism. After ordering and waiting 15 minutes we get to the window to be told "Our credit card machines aren't working, do you have cash?" No!! This place is terrible. It took 30 minutes to get our food when there were only 3 cars in-front of us. I saw only one waitress actually walking out to the cars so I felt bad for them. They messed up on the condiments and after waiting 30 minutes you'd expect them to at least get them right. I know that's it's just condiments but sometimes they make the meal. They closed the stalls before 8:30 pm on a Saturday and don't place any signs or tell their customers what is going on. People will literally sit in the stall with the red light blinking and no response from the employees to inform them of what is going on. We usually stop here when passing through and have seen the level in customer service decline. On the last 2 visits waited at least 30 minutes for our food. I cant say that the food here is all that good...Something about it does not interest me in anyway.....But having said that...there is no better place in Santa Clara county to get a drink...any kind of drink...my preference is the Route 44 Cherry Limeade with extra lime......Love the slushies, sunrise smoothie and I just love the crushed ice...what makes drinks taste so different with crushed ice? My family and I literally just left and I NEVER yelp and today I really felt the need to yelp. If I could give them ZERO stars I would! This location's customer service definitely depends on the time come. We have been here during the day and have had great customer service and our whole order completely correct. The night crew... A WHOLE different story. Being that Sonic is on our way home we have been here a couple times before at night the first time OK they get something wrong big deal... They fix it and move on. Second time same thing... We try to give them the benefit of the doubt and today every single meal of the 3 that I ordered was wrong! For starters a #1 is a CHEESEburger, we ordered 2 one for myself with no tomato and one for my daughter no tomato no onion add bacon on both no one said anything about no cheese, both burgers had no cheese and both had tomato. I also ordered a large watermelon slush and they couldn't even get that right! If you ask me whoever the Manager/General Manager is needs to re-evaluate their night staff. I stopped by here on the way out of town. It's one of the only Sonic Drive-In's around and Gilroy really isn't very close to the Bay Area. It's unique in that you can eat in your car outside if you want, or you can get it to go. I'm not sure if they have seating inside but I've never needed to. The only problem I find is when placing orders, you have to contend with all the exhaust from the other cars. The food is okay, nothing special. They have a much more diverse menu then other fast food burger joints so that's a plus. We will probably go here each time we head out of town mainly because it's one of the last food stops for about an hour on our route. read more

We decided to go to Sonic as a Halloween treat. We ordered twice. The first order was for our dinner. My husband's burger was so overcooked and they didnt take off the produce as requested. 2nd order was for dessert. Took way longer to get that even though there were less people around than when we first ordered. All our blasts were runny and completely melted and one was the wrong flavor. It took too long to get the desserts that we didn't bother to have it fixed because it was so late and had to get the kids home. Drove too far for bad service. Came to get a milk shake waited 30 minutes to get 4 shakes. The girl who took my order was extremely rude. I let her know that I was still waiting after 25 minuets and she said, just wait ok, they're still making them. I asked her how long would it take she rudely said I don't know! With an attitude. I told her ok thanks. When i went to use the restroom I could hear a lot of cuss words and horseplay going on in through the employee only door. Yesterday- Saturday in 100 degree heat around 6pm, we rolled up in the drivethru for 2 slushies and was told the machine was broken. There were no signs up saying the machine was down. After choosing another item and told we couldn't have that either as it was made with the slushie machine too, we settled upon 1 large chocolate shake.... we first noticed it was light in weight, when we went to take s drink...it was obvious nothing had been stirred, we got a mouth full of hot chocolate syurp, in a little ice cream...and a bunch of whipped cream....it was the nastiest chocolate milkshake I've ever experienced, so much so I'm writing this review. This is my favortite spot to go to after a long drive and its always been a pleasure to eat here. However on Monday The 14th of of June 2021 the service was ridiculous. The person who answered the stall laughed and didnt even say hi and then finally talked on it after a few mins. She didnt know what stall number so we said 24 but she thought we aaid 3. There was giggling in the background and she kept talking to other co workers while taking our order which was frustrating cause she wasnt getting our order right. Then when we got our food we only got the sides and not the main meal so we were missing then entree of the combo meals we ordered. Then when we finally got a hold of then again will the stall button after 30 mins waiting for then to talk to us again we said that we were missing items and the whole time they had it with them they decided to not come back outside and give us the rest of the order so we had to wait longer. All the co workers seemed unprofessional at this time i usually get great customer service when I come here but that day was horrible. On our way back from Monterey, we were too lazy to get out of our car since it was raining... so Sonics it was! We ordered the boneless garlic parm and sweet asian chili, mozzarella sticks with a real strawberry fruit slush. Sad to say, I wasn't too pleased with it especially the sweet asian chili. It was drenched with a honey-like sauce that made it really heavy after the second bite. Mozza sticks are also alright with a side of marinara but I prefer mines dunked in ranch! Worst visit ever! We were the only people in the drive thru at 10:15am. Michelle, the girl working the window, couldn't get our order right. (We didn't order anything special.). We had to explain the order again when we got to the window. She gave us our order except for the breakfast burritos. We waited at the window for 15 min for these while we watched Michelle talk on her phone. In the meantime, the line behind us was getting longer and longer. Two cars in line behind us just left. Finally, she gave our order after we waited a total of 20 min. We love Sonic and this is the closest to our house, but we won't be back. Worst Sonic EVER! Pulled into a stall and ordered. I talked really really slow and the guy could not understand me. It took forever to order, and all I wanted was unsweet iced tea and an order of tots. I waited almost 20 minutes ... no order. They cleared everyone in the drive thru lane, and I saw people who came after me get their orders. I pushed the button and asked if they were just having trouble with being busy, and the guy said he would bring my order out. I waited a few minutes ... nothing. Finally went in and canceled the order. I wasted over 20 minutes and was driving from the Bay area to Los Angeles. Sure could have used the iced tea. Stopped at a McDonald's when I got on I-5 and they were out of unsweetened iced tea. Decided to get a Dr. Pepper, but their machine was out of syrup. It just wasn't my night. The food at Sonic is only so-so, and expensive in comparison to other fast-food restaurants. I also hate the way the drive-thru is laid out. It's dangerous with all these servers going by on roller skates (which is part of the draw of the restaurant.) It's cool to see them skate, but I'm always worried one of them will come flying out in front of me while I try to maneuver the crazy drive-thru situation. Also, this place takes FOREVER to get you your food. I've sat in the line for ages, and even when you order from the car or go up to the menu out front by the tables, it takes a long, long time. Part of it is the traffic that builds up, but the other part is just slow service. I try to avoid Sonic unless I'm with someone who really wants to go there. read more

1st timer at Sonic Drive In Wanted to try after seeing commercials, finally tried today. Staff tries, but food quality and environment is lacking. May be the location and time of year, was bombarded by flies while the window was down for ordering. Made it difficult to enjoy but kept an open mind. Not very happy with drive thru service at all. We were trying to order and the women initially asked us if she can take our order to which we responded to give us a minute. After knowing what our order was, we made multiple attempts to order but she never responded. This went on for about 12 minutes to the point were multiple cars were starting to pile behind us some of the drivers behind us noticed that we were trying to place our order with no response at that point we tried to go to the next window to try order from there. While we were waiting at the window we noticed a worker inside near the window basically ignoring us. As one of the cars behind us started to approach us we asked them if they were able to order in witch they responded,"they were able to order", fully aware of our situation we were feed up of what happened the last 20 min we decided to leave. What a disappointing experience! I just don't understand why they didn't answer after constantly trying to place our order while the other cars were able to place an order right after we left. First I wanna start off saying that I usually stop at sonic for banana milkshake whenever I'm in Gilroy. It's my little treat. Today I was at the drive-through and I ordered a banana milkshake and onion rings and the guy who took my money was also the one who made my banana milkshake. Now if somebody is handling money shouldn't they be wearing gloves when they're handling food? I saw him open up my banana with his fingers no gloves and put it in my cup after taking my money. I can't believe how gross that is.I thought places handle, food aren't they supposed to wear gloves? And then to top it off after I got my milkshake and I was driving away and I put it in my cupholder when I went to grab it the whole top popped off and a big blob of whip cream went between my seat and the console. Disappointing. My husband was stoked to try Sonic. Drove up to a stall to order. No answer after pushing the button. After the third time, I decided to walk in the building. To my surprise, it wasn't a sit-down restaurant. I was met by a staff member. While he was pleasant, he apologized and said there were only three people working and they were only taking drive-thru orders. Begrudgingly, we got in line. Insult to injury - they were "out of ice cream at the moment". Ugh. We got the rest of our order. Food was bland - Costco hot dogs are way better. As we sadly munched on our food in the shade, a kid on roller blades approached to deliver us an order that included a milkshake. Well, it wasn't ours.
