First I wanna start off saying that I usually stop at sonic for banana milkshake whenever I'm in Gilroy. It's my little treat. Today I was at the drive-through and I ordered a banana milkshake and onion rings and the guy who took my money was also the one who made my banana milkshake. Now if somebody is handling money shouldn't they be wearing gloves when they're handling food? I saw him open up my banana with his fingers no gloves and put it in my cup after taking my money. I can't believe how gross that is.I thought places handle, food aren't they supposed to wear gloves? And then to top it off after I got my milkshake and I was driving away and I put it in my cupholder when I went to grab it the whole top popped off and a big blob of whip cream went between my seat and the console. Thanks a lot Sonic I don't think I'll be going there for a long time. Especially now with this whole coronavirus thing this guy is going to be handling my banana with his fingers. Happy hour is everyday from 2pm to 5pm. Love their slushies. My favorite? GRAPE! You can park your car and press the intercom bottom to order - sometimes it's slow but that's okay since most of the time I'm still thinking of what I want to order besides a grape slushy, haha. I like their Asian Sesame Chili Chicken strips - pretty spicy but really good along with my grape slushy. I love how their staff go to your car and give you your order and they were skates. my new pit stop on our way to SoCal. no clean bathroom along the way? no problem. just stop by here, grab yourself a cranberry limeade, finish it up, and use the cup. voila. i haven't a chance to try anything else from the menu besides the drinks. limeade here are perfect, especially during the summer. it doesn't go flat until you finish it. lol. that only makes sense to me. they don't open 24 hours. so if you want something on your way back from SoCal, better leave early. i don't get the parking setup. what's the point for cars to park, order, then sit there and eat, taking up the spaces of the stalls? there are others who need to order as well. the to-go line takes too long to move, the stalls are all taken with people stuffing their faces who take their time. why not go park somewhere else and eat? read more

i'm soooo stuffed on sonic now that i'm suffering from a super-mega-ultra food coma...hope i don't fall asleep while writing this review! anyways, this was my first time to a sonic, even though i used to live blocks away from the one that used to be on halsted and addison in chicago (at least i think it was a sonic?). i must say, it was good enough to make me consider taking the 152 back home from LA instead of 580! i went with several other yelpers on a so-unofficial-it's-not-even-a-UYE UYE and, with Dave K.'s help, placed a ginormous order that took the person on the other end of the intercom literally about a minute to recite. for me: * sonic bacon cheeseburger -- 3 stars. i've definitely had better. meh. (in terms of bacon cheeseburgers, nothing beats carl's jr.'s western bacon cheeseburger) * mozzarella sticks -- 5 stars. not much you can say about them. (brought me back to my college days) * onion rings -- 5+ stars. i've never had such sweet onion rings before. this is what i'm forever getting if/when i take 152 home from LA. i'm not sure if it was the batter or the onions themselves (vidalia, perhaps?), but yeah, something sweet and irresistible about them. * strawberry cream pie shake -- 5 stars. also delish. you'll need a spoon to eat/drink it, though: unless you have lungs of steel, the only good the straw will do you is to hold up the lid while you scoop with a spoon. to the couple in the dark gray prius: i'd like to apologize for mikey and dave's drunk tetsu impressions that may or may not have made your tummies turn ;) to the guy in the silver prius: i'd like to apologize for dave who didn't mean to scare you--he thought you were me :D read more

Worst visit ever! We were the only people in the drive thru at 10:15am. Michelle, the girl working the window, couldn't get our order right. (We didn't order anything special.). We had to explain the order again when we got to the window. She gave us our order except for the breakfast burritos. We waited at the window for 15 min for these while we watched Michelle talk on her phone. In the meantime, the line behind us was getting longer and longer. Two cars in line behind us just left. Finally, she gave our order after we waited a total of 20 min. We love Sonic and this is the closest to our house, but we won't be back. Disappointing. My husband was stoked to try Sonic. Drove up to a stall to order. No answer after pushing the button. After the third time, I decided to walk in the building. To my surprise, it wasn't a sit-down restaurant. I was met by a staff member. While he was pleasant, he apologized and said there were only three people working and they were only taking drive-thru orders. Begrudgingly, we got in line. Insult to injury - they were "out of ice cream at the moment". Ugh. We got the rest of our order. Food was bland - Costco hot dogs are way better. As we sadly munched on our food in the shade, a kid on roller blades approached to deliver us an order that included a milkshake. Well, it wasn't ours. hmph. the boyfriend and i made a trip out to sonics last night cause he was craving for it. i dont know what it is, but this sonics just wasn't that great. when we got our food, the tater tots tasted like they had been sitting out all day long. granted it was around 11PM when we got there, but ive been to other sonic locations at any other time of the day and my food was always hot and fresh. for people who have never had sonic up until they opened here, its not that they necessarily have GREAT food.. but i just always liked it for the varied menu. also, i LOVE their drink menu. im a big fan of drinks, and i love that i can make a bunch of combinations at sonics. hopefully if i pass through here and get sonics next time, the food will at least be hot. read more

After years of watching all these damn sonic adds, I was excited to hear that Sonic was in town. I had their cheeseburger and tater tots and I was very disappointed. Tater tots are just that, just like the Ore-Ida (or even the Safeway select) ones in frozen food section. Their burger was comparable to McDonald's. I have been to this Sonic a few times during my journeys to No. Cal. The food at Sonic in general is not that great, but the drinks are great usually. WE NEED A SONIC IN SAN JOSE!!! We were at the outlets and could not pass up Sonic's since this one is the closest to home. I ordered a chili cheese coney with sweet potato tots, ched r peppers and ocean water. The service kinda sucked which was surprising, usually these people are on point asking if you need anything else, or checking up on you when you eat at the tables. Not today.. First they forgot the onions on my dog, then no ranch with the peppers, then no napkins. It was a mess lol. But I did notice that the guy who helped us was the ONLY one running food and it was a pretty busy afternoon, so I forgave him. The sweet potato tots are SO GOOD! Much better than the regular ones. I had the coney island hot dog. It was good. I added jalapenos on to it and had my heart begin to hurt. Ordered way too much food and could not finish it. Onions rings, mozzarella sticks, cheese tots, ice cream, etc. My head hurts just thinking about it. The names alone will get your mouth salivating. HORRIBLE customer service!!!!!! I ordered a berry blaze energy drink and the server handed me a energy A.M with strawberries and I informed her that was not the blaze. She doubled checked with her manager Heath and he said yes that was the right one. I showed her a picture and that's when her manager Heath came to the window like a bat out of hell and screamed at me than how's it made if you know so much. ! Did that just happen? And from a manager!!!! Seriously this sonics has gone down hill so much it's very sad. I would hate to work for that impatient unprofessional manager, Heath. Drove up to make to make an order in the drive through and waited 10 minutes with NO other car in front of me. I said hello a few times and no answer. We got there about 7pm on a Sunday. The staff was right there inside and one even standing at the window with her head piece on. They were not paying attention to drive through customers. We go to Sonic about once every month and it's always a long wait.. I'm talking like a 30 or more wait everytime we go and it's not busy at all. The place is very dirty especially as you pull up to the window. Don't know if I want my food and drink after they hand it to you. I can't see how the place passing inspection on the inside. We like the drinks and food there but the service and time wait is always horrible there! Either they are always short staffed there or they just need to retrain their employees. read more

Came here today beyond excited about having Sonic. We pull up and get into one of those parking spots to order. After deciding on what we wanted we hit the red button. We patiently waited about 15 mins and got a really quick rush message from a male worker. We couldn't make it out and so we hit the button again. And a female worker after about 10 mins let us know that they were only doing drive thru. There needs to be some type of indication about just drive thru only to prevent customers from waiting long periods of time for nothing. We decided to get in the drive thru line but other cars that were in the same boat as us drove off. Not only was there no sign but the company is losing money as well. read more

HORRIBLE!!!!! NEVER will I go there again. We pull up in the stalls to order...decide on what we want. press the red button to order and someone says something to us about ordering BUT YOU CANT UNDERSTAND what shes saying! so we try a few more times...still cant hear her.So we finally just look to see what other people are doing ...they are all pulling out of the stall going to the drive thru. OK so we do that...order 1 hamburger meal and 1 buffalo chicken meal. FINALLY get to the window to some rude ass girl Adriana. Adriana gives us our drinks no straws...and we wait...again. By now we've been at this Sonic for almost 25min. We finally get our bag...WRONG ORDER so some poor guy who works there and handed us the order tells Adriana it's not right to which she replies "yes it is!" in such a rude manner. So he shows her...ok wrong..they look thru like 7 bags that are sitting there waiting to be handed to customers...they give us another bag...AGAIN it's wrong so we give it back ..Adriana tells the poor guy who tells her again it's wrong "no that's their order!" NO ADRIANA it's not our order...I'm pretty sure I know what I ordered and that wasnt it... again. So we wait..and wait...and wait...they finally give us our order. Its correct but the buffalo wings are DRENCHED in buffalo sauce...I mean it was like nuggets in buffalo sauce soup! They have us no napkins.. had to ask for straws...and the stuck my forks INSIDE the wing bag so I had to pull out forks in a plastic sleeve covered in sauce...while I'm in my car..eating on my lap...and with no napkins I couldnt even eat the nuggets, the fries were already cold by the time we got to eat them. I went to Sonic yesterday with some friends and had the displeasure of having my order taken by the pushiest, rudest employee I have come across in a long time. LINDA!- YOU ARE RUDE AND SHOULD NOT BE WORKING WITH THE PUBLIC! Long story short we drove through the drive through and needed a few moments to examine the massive menu. And, as a side note, not only is there a million things happening on the menu board, to accommodate everything on such a small space, it's all written in type 0.05 font! Ok, back on track..... As soon as we were greeted we needed for a few moments to decide. When we were ready we asked for 2 separate orders (which she made obvious that it was already too much of an inconvenience by her tone) then cut me off mid way ordering with a total. I was tempted to just drive off but, giving her the benefit of the doubt that maybe she thought I was done ordering, I proceeded to the window to pay. Not only did they get my order incorrect, they just handed me my food (dripping cups and all) without even a "thank you" or "have a good day". Nothing. Zero. Zip. I get it- fast food, just like retail, is a crappy job to have and many times may seem like a thankless profession to be in but if you are having a bad day or hate your job, change it. Sorry to say I probably won't be back; the food was nothing special and the happy hour cream slushes were the only reason I even go but because of this, I'll save myself the trip across town and the empty calories. read more

"Can I get a bacon cheeseburger and a large strawberry slush? Yes, the big one." I never had a Sonic less than 45 mins away. It was always a stop on a road trip or its own mini road trip! When I lived in San Jose, Sonic was my late night craving after a long day of classes! The food is okay. I usually get a bacon cheeseburger, but I had incidences where there was no bacon or it was just a dry sad burger staring at me. Once ordered a hot dog, not a fan. Haven't tried much else on the menu. The main attraction for me is the strawberry slush! Never a disappointment, always a good decision! And of course I have to order a large size because I don't live close! Craving one now...... sigh* read more

Came here with my boyfriend on a Friday morning, didn't expect it to be busy. Pulled up in one of the drive in order and rang the button to have my order taken. It took the guy several minutes to answer me, and when he did he said only the drive through was open and I would have to wait until 10 or go through the drive through. My only option left was to go through the drive thru as we were very hungry. Finally got our food and went to go park in the parking lot. Unfortunately the fries were so stale and the onion rings tasted old ! we took it back and asked them to remake our fries and onion rings. They were polite when we asked them for new fries. overall wouldn't make the drive from San Jose to gilroy just for the food. Would rather go to in n out. read more

We generally like Sonic........generally. This location needs to work on keeping the place clean. Minor issue with my burger. Asked for no cheese or onions.....didn't have cheese...perfect. Forgot the no onions part.....my burger had onions. Too late not going back. Once my wife finished her drink..since the ice is very chewable she was eating the ice. Horrified she asked me to look at the bottom of her cup. Moldy black stuff at the bottom.....wife said the bathroom was dirty and didn't have toilet paper. I don't like writing bad reviews, but there's no way around this one. This particular location has awful service. Pulling up, we were excited to try something different on our trip from Seattle to Los Angeles. There were 3 of us, 2 of which had never been to Sonic before. Needless to say, this visit left us with a poor taste in our mouths. We will not visit another Sonic. First off, they were out of quite a bit: wings, one of their chicken sandwiches, dipping sauces, and of all things, tomato. We stopped asking and cut our order short, it was so ridiculous. We waited at least 10 mins for an iced tea and onion rings to come out, only to be told their stock of dipping sauces were depleted after asking. I was definitely disappointed with this establishment. If their restaurant service was bad, you can only imagine what their bathrooms looked like. They were atrocious, but at this point, I wasn't surprised because if you can't handle the food part, how are you going to handle things like keeping the restrooms clean for your patrons? read more

service sucks at this Sonic. I ordered footlong chilidog and specificaly asked for NO CHEESE. The guy taking our order repeated it and still they give me chilidog WITH cheese. I returned it and 15 min later they give me all american dog. Again we returned it and tell the waiter that I ordered a footlong chilidog NO CHEESE. 20 min later, still waiting, no one returned. A waitress was passing by and we told her our dilemma. She returned less than 5 min later for the corect order. By then my soda is watered because ice have melted and my tater tots is cold. If I could give a negative star I would. We pulled into a stall and pushed the order button. Five minutes later we were told there is no stall service tonight and to get in the drive through line. So we did thinking there are only 4 cars ahead of us it wouldn't be too bad. WRONG! 25 minutes later... yes 25 minutes we got our drinks which were overflowing and sticky. They also had almost none of "the good ice" which is half of why we went there in the first place. We would have left the line but it became a mission to see how long it would take. We counted 6 different people working inside and those were only the ones we saw through the drive through window no one cooking etc, so how they couldn't get their act together is beyond me. I think I heard the angels singing as I drove into the looong line for Sonic. Halleluja they are finally closer to home. Oh those chili cheese tater tots that I dream about are as good as ever. The coney dogs never dissapoint. Slushies are cool and refreshing, albeit a bit too sweet on the syrup. Yes, the staff is definitely still learning since it took forever for them to deliver a pretty simple order and like I mentioned, the drinks were a bit too sweet. But I can put all that aside as I munch on my tater tots in the comfort of my car. Thank you Sonic corporation for finally delivering a location that is closer to the Bay Area, for finally easing those stomach aching cravings as I watch the Sonic commercials, and for giving me a most worthy number 100 Yelp review! read more

I've been driving for 4 straight hours, my ass is getting sore from sitting so long, the play list I've made on my Ipod has already repeated itself... twice, and my stomach is cramping from hunger; I'm nearing the end of a roadtrip. That was when I saw the bright red and yellow (standard burger colors) Sonic sign pulsing between two semi trucks. I see the commercials all the time, but the closest one is in Gilroy and oh how those commercials are such a tease. The combination of hunger and curiosity lured me in. I pull into the lot and see stalls to park that have menus where you can order from your car and they'll bring you the food... on roller skates. Let me get this straight, I've just been sitting in a car for hours and they want me to stay in something that smells like campfire and roadtrip and somehow enjoy my food??? Yeah, that's not going to happen. I chose to park somewhere else and sit at one of the tables. I was going to open the door to go in and order, but the sign said, "employees only." OK, well where the hell do I order? Then I see a line of people in the middle of the outdoor seating area. At first it is a little confusing, but you have to walk up to, what looks like, a drive through menu, but you're standing. Ummm, ok, I'll play along. "I'd like a #2 w/ a strawberry limeade and tater tots." "mumble mumble, fuzz fuzz, gibberish gibberish" "A #2, STRAWBERRY LIMEADE, AND TOTS" "fuzz, mumble, fuzz, that will be $6.87" Classic, can't hear a thing but the price is sure clear. And now I pray... pray that they got my order right and they some how find me in the frenzy of impatient travelers. The food found me and I was happy it was all there. The burger was mediocre and the tater tots were a refreshing change to fries, but the best was the strawberry limeade. On a hot day, the combination of sweet and tart suppresses the heat perfectly. The food isn't something I'd crave, but the drinks is something I'd definitely stop for the next time I pass. read more

once you get over the novelty of having the food served to you on roller blades, you kinda realize that the stuff here really isn't that great. ordered the texas bacon cheeseburger, and while i appreciated the texas toasts... the inside just wasn't all that great. the meat was sparse, the bbq sauce didn't taste right... add the sad, uncrispy tater tots... and you've got yourself one disappointing meal. the drinks, however, were fantastic. plus two stars on that alone! i had the strawberry limeade and yum yum yum the commercials were smart to emphasize the drinks. i won't go back here to eat, but i will stop by to grab a drink if i'm in the area! read more
