I'm a little disappointed they don't know what loaded tots or totchos are, so plain tots it is (sorry I didn't have more than ten minutes to explain what loaded tots are- it's kind of like being at Starbucks and ordering off the "secret" menu, you either know or you don't). Food comes out relatively quick and our waitress is super polite. I greedily open my sandwich and take a big bite. It almost tasted like the burger was cooked with fish sticks. My party and I enjoyed the elevated drive-in atmosphere, and had a blast hanging out the window to provide our order. We love Sonic but when drove up to this one at 2 o'clock in the afternoon there was one car in the drive thru and one truck in a parking spot. We pushed the red button to order and the lady said we will be right with you. 5 minutes later they brought food out to the truck and the same car was in the driver thru. No one came over the speaker to take our order. Pushed the red button again and no response. We waited another 5 minutes and left. If it takes that long to order fast food when there are literally 3 customers there is no telling how long it would take for food to be delivered. So disappointing. read more

As far as fast food selection goes sonic is probably the best out there. Old-school drive-in style, and good food relatively, for decent prices. Love the half price happy hour from 2 to 4 and at this location and their popcorn chicken is WAY better than McDonald's new chicken McBites :-P I'm particularly fond of the chicken toaster, no bacon. Sonic is one of my favorite fast food places, but out of all the Sonic's I've been to, this is one of the worst. Took a bit longer to order and get food, even though there weren't that many others there. Ordered my fav drink, Route 44 cherry limeade, got a double jr cheeseburger and my family ordered a 12 pc boneless wings with honey BBQ flavor. Everything was a bit bland compared to what I've come to expect at a Sonic. The cheeseburger meat was a bit dry, and didn't taste as flavorful as most. For my cherry limeade, other Sonic's have given me up to a half a fresh lime when I get a route 44 (probably a large or extra large drink size at other fast food places). This Sonic gave me only 1/8th of a lime. I'm not a huge honey BBQ fan, but my family also thought the taste was off from what they expected. Not sure what it was there, but definitely not the normal honey BBQ flavor boneless wings should have. Overall very disappointed in the performance here, especially considering how good I know sonic drive-in's are capable of being. read more

Stopped here for lunch on the drive from Norfolk to the Outer Banks. Very friendly service, and our complex order was delivered perfectly. Plus, they gave us free mozzarella sticks (they'd accidentally made an extra batch). Maybe should be knocked down a star for the dingy bathrooms, but they were so friendly they earned it back. I came in and asked for peanuts on my hot fudge sundae and I paid EXTRA for them, to not receive them. Then to realize they didn't even mix the snickers into my sonic "blast," instead it was a giant chunk of snickers candy on the top of vanilla ice cream. If you live in the DC metro area, you are probably familiar with Sonic Drive-In commercials, though there are apparently no restaurants nearby. I usually stop by this Sonic on the way down to trips to Outer Banks, NC. For a fast food restaurant, service is decent and the food is tasty. I recommend the SuperSonic Burrito for breakfast. This burrito is more than big enough for a ride-wearied beach-hungry driver/passenger. It's even got tater tots inside. On the way up from OBX a few weeks ago I had the Fire Island burger and Cherry Limeade, both of which were excellent. The Limeade is strongly flavored yet not too tart for those who like lime. If driving down from VA or more northern points, you should avoid the Sonic in Moyock, NC (a few miles after the NC state line). This store had horrible food and slow service. If you can wait 30 minutes, you'll be much happier at the Sonic located here in Grandy, NC. Plan for this pit stop if you're hungry for some better-than-average fast food on your way to OBX. read more

Absolute worst. They get your order wrong even if you clarify with the associate. Shame on us for not getting the receipt because when they come out with the incorrect order, they send someone in training, who when asked if they could reprint receipts to confirm the order, lied and said they couldn't, even though when I called back they could. We then had to go back through the line to order more chicken due to having it incorrect in the first place. When taking to the GM, he has no sympathy or customer service skills. He stated that if you order two mediums it equals a large, and why would we refund you for something you got? BECAUSE I HAD TO WASTE MORE TIME AND MONEY AND NOW CALL YOU WHILE MY FOOD GETS COLD. And when he was informed that a medium is not half the cost of a large so how do two mediums equal a large? He had no response other than corporate makes the prices. They are ok with taking your money but not willing to correct or make amends. Essentially what he said is fuck you even though my ASSOCIATES made mistakes. Their associates also think it's appropriate to put a fork in the cheese tater tot's... not on the side of the box in the sleeve, IN THE BOX. This was by far the slowest, dirtiest Sonic I've ever visited in my entire life. The cook came out while I was eating my food, and looked grimy and made me nearly gag. We waited about 15 minutes for our food, which was nowhere near complicated or a big order. The employees park in the spots for guests, and then yell from their cars. One employee left in his car and came back a few minutes later and the manager said "oh, just let me know!", like they're leaving on the clock. So, after I drank my Hi-C which made me experience semi-pleasant, I went to the bathroom and it was FILTHY. The toilet seat was disgusting and toilet paper was thrown all over the floor. NO STARS. I am gluten intolerant and new to it. I've suffered for ten years . When I eat gluten even in trace amounts I get nausea vomiting extreme fatigue, extremely severe abdominal cramps, sweating, and it goes on. So once I figured this out after suffering for ten years you can imagine it was pretty important to me to be able to eat a meal without vomiting and getting ill. GLUTEN FREE FRIENDS SONIC DOES NOT CARE. Let me note I expected to maybe find a salad with grilled chicken to eat. I didn't expect more than that . I asked the boy at the drive thru ordering machine if they had anything gluten free. Let me note it's hard enough for us to eat anything anywhere. I am fricking hungry all the time. I don't know what is gluten free and what's not yet. I don't expect them to cater to me the whole menu , but a little courtesy and respect would have been nice. When I asked what they had that was gluten free , I was told they could give me a bag of lettuce and I heard the guy snickering with other employees in the background. SO DISRESPECTFUL. I will never eat another thing at sonic nor will I buy from there for daughter, who has a normal diet . I called to report this to management and got told that I couldn't be helped and to call back when another manager was available. Buckle up kids, cause I'm about to take you for a ride. So my friend (we'll call her Krust) calls my other friend (we'll call her Wheat) assuming she remembers Wheat's number but actually misdials it and no one picks up. Later on we're at the Sonic in Moyock getting $1 corndogs because their happy hour deals are amazing and their corndogs are pretty great. Suddenly, the number Krust had accidentally dialed calls back. We answer still thinking it's Wheat and you can imagine our confusion when a male voice answers asking, "Is this Megan? Did your number change?" We went along with it thinking Wheat was pranking us. So we had this nice conversation with this guy and he tells us how his day is, I eventually ask him what his name is and he says "They call me Bill, you can find me on capital hill." Somewhere along the line we mention how we're at Sonic and he starts telling us about these other great deals. We were able to figure out 1. this guy works at Sonic 2. this guy works at the Grandy Sonic 3. he's pretty cool. And thus began our thousand mile trek to the Sonic in Grandy from the Sonic in Moyock. Let me tell you, I felt terrible requesting "Bill from capital hill" just because it was kind of very unnecessary but we drove all that way and we HAD to find Bill. So Bill comes out and he turns out to be a guy we ACTUALLY KNOW. Dude the best part was he was SUPER nice about us mcfreaking showing up to his work and gaveusalittlebitofadiscount if u know what I mean. Needless to say I'm pledging my eternal loyalty to Grandy Sonic and their star employee Bill.
