The best crab cakes in the OBX. They gave you not one, but two, huge patty of crab cakes that are made out of the freshest lump crabs by the sweet briney taste of it and not a lot of fillers. I was so full from the first patty, I can't believe I asked hubby to help me eat off some of the second patty (I'm territorial with my crab cakes)! The fingerling potatoes are cooked in the juices of the crab cakes oil so it got a ton of flavors too and I'm so happy with the generous amount of asparagus served with it. The calamari fries app are your typical ones. The fried shrimp was fresh, juicy and tasty, went well with our toddler's macncheese. The grouper that made up the fish taco was fresh, however, as a dish the fish tacos was underwhelming. $13 specialty cocktails is a good price. Overall I'm happy with this place. read more

The quality of the food wasn't that good. We got the fish tacos and a basket of shrimp. All I will say is I wouldn't recommend this spot.

My wife and I just got back from vacation in the Outer Banks area and we never miss a chance to visit Chef Bear and his staff at the Low Tide Bar and Grill. After enjoying a few of the awesome drink specials My wife started out with the Shrimp and corn chowder and I had the Low Tide wings let me say the ginger and scallion sauce is amazing. then she had the Drunken Goat Raviolis, the sauce with the goat cheese that came with her raviolis was unbelievable. Even though I LOVE ,LOVE the Crab Cakes I went with the Ribs this time and I was not disappointed. The Caribbean BBQ sauce was out of this world .If I could have figured out a way to bring it though the airport I would have bought a gallon of it. The service is excellent and the whole atmosphere is very relaxing we never feel rushed or neglected. The wait staff is super friendly and attentive which makes all the difference. We had a fabulous meal at Low Tide, our go to restaurant when in town. The coconut shrimp were absolutely delicious along with the fish tacos, scallops and low tide burger. The portions were large and the staff were friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. They are also always accommodating when possible. I asked for my scallops grilled instead of fried and they were happy to accommodate me. It is very convenient place to eat for lunch or dinner since it is located just across the street from the Southern Beach access. read more

First of all, The place has a nice ambiance, but it does not go hand and hand with how good the food or service is. Secondly, we were the second table in this establishment with a table of 4, the other was a table of 2. We started off with hushpuppies with crawfish. Half were burnt and I made a comment to the waitress about it, and her response was "they have tested out the fryer and changed the oil and it comes out that way-- it isn't burnt" well I beg to differ. Half were black and definitely tasted burnt. My friend bit the bullet and ate the burnt ones because this restaurant didn't have the gall to do the right thing and just replace the burnt ones. My friend and I ordered whole fish: yellowtail and was told it came with both heirloom tomato salad and potatoes, waitress was wrong again. While it's a bit of a misadvertisement and inadequate knowledge of what's *actually on the menu*, she made up for it but getting us a side of potatoes. Now, the yellowtail looked good, but it wasn't fully cooked through to the bone. Now, if you'd want to justify that it's fine, then that's just an opinion I don't agree with. The flesh of the fish that we both ate were cooked and good, but once you start getting towards the bone, it became soft to raw. Overall it wasn't that great but at least the good bits (about 70% of the fish) were edible. Also, my wife got the shrimp and grits. The collard greens seeped into the sauce of the shrimp and grits and the bitterness was overwhelming and the entire entree was underwhelming. Shrimp tacos were good, but pieces were big. Bottom line: I would not dine at this establishment in the future. Reviews from previous foodies felt misleading and so do pictures. As someone who has been a waiter for 6 years, helping family friends open up their restaurants, and a son of a fish purveyor, the waitress and the food was must left to be desired. read more

Half of our table couldn't even eat their meals because of how bad the fish was. I'm not going to waste my time writing everything out but I'll at least describe the fish tacos. Corn tortillas that weren't even warmed up much less grilled. Just bland soggy tortillas with really sad fish that I think may have been just sitting in a steam pan in the kitchen. We got the tide burger and fries and the mahi mahi tacos and fries. All of it was really good. The fries were average and slightly cold. However, they were busy when we arrived with large parties and it took a little while to get our food. We chose to sit outside. We were alone outside and the table next to us didn't get cleaned for 30 minutes. The servers came to clean it, and it appeared they were arguing. Inside of the building was so creative, decorations everywhere that made the vibe all pull together. Not to mention the SERVICE, everyone was so friendly and fast. My wife and I ate here on a Friday night, the first Friday after Labor Day. Business was slow but the service was not. The menu is a bit limited but that made it easier and quick to order. I had the Southern BLT which came with an overly generous serving of French fries. The hearty sandwich was delicious especially with the chipotle mayo sauce that covered the potato bread. Wife ordered the Fish Tacos and could only eat two of the three, again because of the overly generous serving. One will be fine for tomorrow's lunch. She enjoyed the tacos but wanted to save room for the Double Chocolate Expresso Martini which she claims "was to die for." The cocktail put her in a good mood so I rate the drink highly as well. When we dined in everything was clean and staff were wearing masks and distancing customers. The drunken goat pasta was tasty. There was something that made the dining experience disappointing though. The menu inside the restaurant listed dinner prices about 50% higher than the menu posted on their website! Oh man, should've read the most recent reviews rather than the average. Service was so incredibly slow, shocking considering we were one of mayyyyybe 3 tables in the restaurant with at least 4 servers on staff. We waited 10 minutes for them to take our drink order, then the drinks took at least another 10. We ordered the Caesar salad, wings, and shrimp basket. The Caesar was the decent good food item, and probably on par with anything you get out of a bag at a grocery store, but I'd imagine you could buy more than one bag with the $14 price tag. The "wings" priced at $17.50 sparked some debate at our table, so much so that we retrieved a menu to make sure we didn't misread. We ordered "wings" but what came to us were strips of what we originally thought was tofu, but turned out to be unbreaded, tofu-esque chicken (truly confused on this one), will say though that the sauce was tasty. We also ordered a $23 shrimp basket which came out with pseudo breaded shrimp and cold, lifeless fries. The place was open and mostly clean, had some beach decor. Can say hands down that it was the most appealing part of our experience by a mile. Honestly, can't un-recommend this place enough, so much so that as a former server I've never felt compelled to write a negative review until now. Listen... being that it's August and everyone's feeling drained from working hard all summer, i wasn't expecting much service wise. (I say this as a local and server myself for anyone questioning my experience lol) The staff here is amazing. Super friendly, cheery, and smiling. Our server stayed on top of our refills and again... always with a smile. So thank you for that. Secondly, the food was great. Crawfish hush puppies were delish and the sauce that came with just sent it over the top in terms of heavenly goodness. Shrimp and grits was probably the best I've ever had up and down the beach. Been coming to Low Tide for many years. The food and drinks are consistently great. So many great choices - hard to know what to get each time. My table was not ready tonight so we hung out at the bar and had some drinks and appetizers. The PB&J pork belly & shrimp is amazing! I also recommend the fried green tomatoes. Every time I come I get the shrimp and grits or the drunken goat ravioli - so so good. My kids always get the burger or the fish tacos. They love it! The ice cream sandwiches are also a favorite of mine - I love the pistachio. We always pick up some of chef Bear's spice on the way out to use at home. read more
