    large plastic in ice cream
    Crimson J.

I'm extremely disappointed and honestly disturbed with my recent visit to this sonic. While enjoying what i thought would be a treat for my nephew and I, he bit into something hard only to find a large chunk of plastic imbedded in the ice cream. This wasn't a tiny piece either; it was a significant piece that could've easily been swallowed or caused a choking hazard. This could have resulted in serious harm and it raises real concerns about how well this sonics monitors cleanness and quality control.

These kids working here have horrible customer service and communication skills. We ordered 2 slushies one cherry limeade and one grape nerds. Without hesitation the guy hands us WATER with nerds in the bottom. No seriously. No ice, just water. We stop him and say "that's the slushie?" "Yes" "that's just water..." he takes it back without saying anything and disappears for 6 minutes and comes back with an unmixed 1/2 water 1/2 ice "grape" slushie with the flavor only in the bottom of the water. I took a video of it. I wish I would have taken a video of the 1st attempt which was straight water no ice. The cherry limeade was at least mixed, but still not a slushie. Who serves a slushie in a clear thin plastic cup? There are so many things wrong here. Sonic usually serves this drink in styrofoam to keep it frozen while drinking. Also how do you with pride and a straight face hand a customer water with flavor at the bottom the first time, and 1/2 ice 1/2 water with flavor on the bottom the second time and think that kind of quality is acceptable? This is why this business is failing, because these people do not care about their customers or quality of their items. We wanted to go back to get our money refunded but you can't go into the location you have to go back through the drive through which already took 15 minutes to get through and another 10 minutes just getting the drinks, so we said forget it. We will never come back here again.

    Strawberry mangonada

Yall know that new drink the strawberry mangonada yeah don't order in this location they didn't even put tajin in it and every drink I ordered was watered down.

I tried them in the past apparently because I have photos associated to that visit (even bought a dozen). I obviously didn't remember until I started writing this review. First the location is pretty easy to reach. Small strip mall store front off Portland Ave. I walked in and there were two people ahead of me but no seating and hardly room to view the selection. There is a plastic COVID screen still up and pictures of people who have stolen from them. The selection of donuts is decent and apparently on the weekends there are speciality fritters. The owner operators are kind and so helpful (high praises!). I ordered one blueberry donut and one banana fritter. Both appeared to be well cooked and scrumptious. However, each of the donuts were over fried and tasted like old grease. The blueberry cake was full of blueberries but no real blueberry taste. The fritter was soaked in grease and no banana flavor. Sadly this is not on my list to try again.

It's like they looked at all the successful ice cream shops with the ice cream on display up front and said, let's do the exact opposite. Let's push the ice cream up against the back wall out of sight and then have customers guess what it looks like. They can choose whatever flavors we make up on the chalk board. Eye catching visuals don't matter On top of that, they have customers come in through one door on the side and then exit through a sliding glass door which has people standing in front of it because there is no where else to wait. Truly a bizarre and awkward execution all around which seems to make their poor employees easily flustered when things get busy. Their ice cream isn't worth mentioning really. We all found it flavorless and icy. We won't be giving them a third chance.

It's close to public parking that can get busy but we didn't have much trouble finding a place to park. I loved the ice cream flavor options available and of course, the premise of house-made ice cream. We each tried our own individual flavors and cones and we did enjoy most of them. Flavor wise this ice cream is there and is what most would seek out. It's there, it's bold and it's good. Where their ice cream missed for me was in the actual texture and creaminess. I found ice chunks in my mocha ice cream and that was a big disappointment to me. I want my ice cream to be ultra creamy and smooth not chunky and hard. It was a bit of a disappointment especially given the high price point.

So five stars and a review based on my observations as the spouse of a Dairy Bar ice cream loving man! Ha! We all have our Fair favorites. I need a scone and he needs an ice cream cone every time we go. And the Dairy Bar does not disappoint. Go early if you can- after dinner time the line is often about 20 minutes long. For the Spring Fair just the outside walk-up window is open. But for the fall Puyallup Fair the larger restaurant space is open. No tables and chairs but they usually have benches and definitely more service windows open inside. The line moves relatively quickly considering how many people are here. We always have great service and the counter staff is so friendly! Really - this type of customer service is so admirable considering they serve thousands of ice cream treats a day! The menu is nice and simple: Ice cream. Vanilla, chocolate or Strawberry. They can do swirls of two flavors too. My husband loves the vanilla and chocolate swirl cones. I swear as soon as they hand it to him he's immediately transported back to childhood. It's really sweet to see that gleeful sparkle in his eye when they hand over the giant swirl cone. I think this is a common occurrence here- lots and lots of families lined up always for that taste of sweet ice cream from the Dairy Farmers of Washington!
