It should not take 25 to 30 minutes to get FAST. FOOD. Hire more staff. It's a weekend night on Main Street and all other food options are closed, you should know that you are going to get a ton of customers, so plan freaking ahead. I legit got through the majority of a Brahms symphony while waiting for my food. Movements 2 through 4 of the 2nd, plus a bit of the 1st movement. The wait times when I come to this sonic are just ridiculous. I waited 15 min the other day. They gave me a free drink poker coin. Cool. BUT, I went to redeem my drink ticket and it was taking them 4 min between cars. There needs to be a change in management or something, because this is a continuous thing. I was originally going to give this only one star, but since employees in this Sonic are actually on roller skates, I gave it another star. I used to drive up to Sonic in Anaheim with friends and they didn't have roller skates. First off, I asked to have raspberry iced tea, but to mix it with peach. They charged me 10 cents to mix it with peach iced tea?! Yes, it is only 10 cents, but to charge someone extra to mix flavors, that's preposterous. Second, the drink was filled 3/4 with ice!!! ORDER YOUR DRINKS WITH NO ICE. So I quickly finished my drink, thinking it was free refills, because the Anaheim Sonic is free refills. Which transitions to my third point, THEY CHARGED $1 FOR REFILLS. Let me say this one more time, order your drinks with no ice!!!!! By the way, my burger tasted like a cheeseburger from McDonald's. I'm astonished by the reviews for this place! It's not fine dining, it's a fast food joint! What the heck do you expect? As far as fast food places go this is about average, but they do offer a different selection. The only reason this place gets 4 stars is of course the ambience, something totally different from other places around, and the fact that our food came out quick and hot! If you are planning on taking your sweetie out on a first date, don't be a jerk. Take her some place nice. Maybe then you'll actually get something in return after the date if she sees you've put in a little effort. If you want to go somewhere fun, listen to some good music, and make a mess of the inside of your car, this is a decent choice. I can't say Sonic is Super Sonic...I know there are some die hard's out there but I just don't see what's so awesome about it. I'll give you the old A&W cool factor of the drive-in but other than that it is just meh! I have been to Sonic 4 times and eaten there 3. When it first opened we tried to go but waiting 3 hours for fast food seemed insane in the membrane....I mean it is fast food?! For a 3 hour wait time it better be wrapped in gold and be so good it transports me to another world. The 3 times I have been there since the opening I have had the chicken strips meal, chicken popcorn, and Chicago dog. The good items: Now the Chicago dog I really like (it's a good imitation of a REAL Chicago dog), bun is fresh, hot, and done just right. It has all the right ingredients (pickle, mustard, relish, tomato, peppers, onions) and tastes great. The tater tots are pretty good and the slushies and limeade are really good. The so-so items: The chicken strips are pretty good, I am not so keen on the gravy and toast though. We didn't get our onion ring so I can't say if those are good. The chicken popcorn was ok. The 'not so' so-so items: The fries are always soggy and just bleh. Since Wienerdude has closed I will continue to go here for the hotdogs and the slushies, but that is all I'm really into here. I don't feel good at all about writing this 2 star review and further burying them into a possible closing down soon. Everyone was so excited and happy when they 1st made their grand opening just a few years ago in this corner in Vista from all the great funny commercials on TV. Their extensive food line up and drinks looked so good on TV. But sadly it boils down to the food and Sonic food is sadly really bad. Right away from the 1st bite of their burger and fries it reminds me of bad high school cafeteria food which is really hard to do because I love high school and Jr HS food. The burger and fries seems like it was made in the morning and been sitting under some heat lamps, I couldn't even eat half the burger. Their menu is huge and extensive with just about anything you want from burritos, burgers, breakfast, pastrami, etc. and it's all so sub par and barely edible. Judging from the low yelp rating and every time I drive by and see hardly any customers just prob mean it's just a matter of time they'll be closing down and another new eatery hopefully something good like Ruby Tuesday or something So Ca doesn't have. But if Sonic decides to revamp their whole menu and hire some big name chefs or food experts like Gordan Ramsey or Tyler Florence who can turn it around then I'm all for it. I've never been to Sonic before. I've seen the goofy commercials, seen new ones under construction all over California and was always curious about the place On Saturday, while waiting at a traffic signal, I saw the Sonic girl skating across the parking lot and decided it was time to try Sonic. NEVER AGAIN! The call button was out of order or dysfunctional. Whatever the case, no Sonic employee knew about it, none reported it, the restaurant manager doesn't know about it, and maintenance hasn't fixed it. Anyway, it took a very long time to get the order taker to respond to my call. When the attendant finally took my order, he screwed it up. Apparently, when one orders NO ONIONS, it means MORE ONIONS. When one orders MINI TOTS, out means MEDIUM TOTS. When one orders NO MAYONNAISE, it means NO CONDIMENTS AT ALL. Cashier #118 is either deaf, dumb or stoned. In any case, someone not suited for work in fast food. Neither is the restaurant manager who hired Cashier #118, for this"manager" is also ignorant of basic operational maintenance, especially when it comes to the function of revenue generating devices such as call buttons on the drive in stations. Furthermore, this manager failed to maintain an adequate supply of onions for onion rings, as I was informed by Cashier #118 that they ran out of onion rings on this fine Saturday afternoon. I'd also like to know what is so special about the water that comes out of your faucets that you would charge TWENTY CENTS for a cup of water. Is it because the water tastes like it came out of a garden hose? Is it because you gave me a straw? I'm perplexed because NONE OF YOUR COMPETITORS CHARGE THIS PREMIUM FOR WATER. When I finally got my order, the tots were cold and without ketchup (who eats tots without ketchup?), I was given no napkins (perhaps there's a surcharge for napkins, like the water), and the burger reminds me of the space-age, foil-wrapped, microwaved burgers they served at swap meets and drive-in theaters long ago...a fatty patty on a wet bun. YUCK! Driving away disappointed, I drove across the street to see FIVE GUYS BURGERS & FRIES and realized what a mistake I just made. I should have gone there and spent the same amount of money (they don't charge for water or napkins) and got a much better meal. The food is not the best but it's not bad either. The price is just like any other fast food place. My issue with this Sonic is they do not put the fast in fast food. The drive thru is a disaster. I came here for a quick meal on the way to work. Unfortunately it is taking about 20 minutes with only 2 cars in front of me. I've been hearing about this place with my friends raving about the hotdogs here. Unfortunately my experience was pretty crappy. I order the chili cheese Coney and the Chicago dog. The buns where cold and hard and the hotdogs where not cooked at all. It's like they just threw on cold hotdogs and now my stomach is killing me. Totally bummed because those hot dogs have the potential to be really good. I will be trying them again at a different location because I'm sure it was just the people working there. Okay so I finally couldn't stand it anymore. I walked to Sonic from my house (just a few blocks away) wuth my momma. Honestly I couldn't fathom doing the drive thru wait for the "experience". I forget what number meal it was but I got a Chicken sandwich meal with onion rings + sweet tea. My momma got the limeade slushie. The chicken sandwich was okay not the best. But the onion rings were really good. The freshest tasting that I think I have ever had. On another note that slushie tasted great... but it leaves you with this overwhelming need for Tequila. First timer here. I gotta say I love the fact that I can pull into a stall and wait to order whenever I am ready. Much less pressure than a traditional drive thru;) Any way the carhop who rolled my order out was very nice and went over everything with me to insure order accuracy. Now onto the food. SuperSonic Cheese burger: I was pretty impressed with this, it was huge, juicy. Not the best burger I've ever had, but some where in the middle. Chicago dog: Yuck, not my thing, the peppers in it tasted like plastic. Chili cheese tots: Suprisingly flavorless CherryLimeade: Good, but I don't generally go crazy for these types of things. Either it was an off day, I wasn't high enough to appreciate it (I wasn't at all in fact), or this place just isn't as good as the commercials lead you to believe...and I've literally seen no less than 50 of those damn things and I'm a good 40 miles out of their demographic, which made it THAT much more appealing for me to check out while in the area. The food was about the quality of the food you'll get at any local Dairy Queen...nothing to write home about. I'd definitely say that their focus is more on their incredibly delcious drinks, which is probably the only thing I'd go back for. I must admit however, that I thoroughly enjoyed me some Chicago dawg, and I'd give that another go, but the chili cheese foot long dawg or whatever the eff it's called wasn't much different that a Wienerschnitzel dog. I usually have neutral feelings about Sonic but tonight really disappointed me. I ordered the #11 which states it comes with gravy (which is the reason that I order it) and the photo shows the gravy. We get our food and my box has no sauce. My husband presses the order button and asks for gravy and they say they no longer serve gravy with the box. Then it took the guy 7 minutes to get us ranch and hot sauce (mind you there was only 1 other car there) and lastly the chicken strip tasted like they have been sitting for hours. Have seen a few Sonics but never had the desire to drive in and try anything until tonight! My sweet tooth prevailed so I opt for an Oreo Blast! It seems to be the same idea behind an Oreo cookie Blizzard from (DQ) but it's a bit smoother and not as many chunky cookie bites which I prefer. All in all it was still yummy and hit the sweet tooth spot! :) I also nabbed an order or Chili Cheese fries which surprised me as being way too small. It came wrapped in a hot dog holder but regardless of the portion it was actually rather hearth and good. The other menu items didn't sound too appealing to me so this review is just for the blizzard & Chili Cheese Friesssss! All in all my two items were delicious but only 4 stars for too few Oreos and the meager portion of Chili Fries. Up the portion size and I'll UP my review stars! read more

But there is one thing you should know The food is decent It's nothing to exciting or anything I really crave, but if you want to know what to get it's the shakes or "blasts". The scene: At a drive-in booth, sitting in your car after you just ordered breakfast at five in the morning. When there's a man on your right with his two lhasa apso pups scurrying around his car while he's ordering outside, and the guy on your left gets out of his car, sets his alarm and walks away from the drive-in booth, you know this: You're at a grand opening of a Sonic Drive In. I got to the Sonic in Vista fifteen minutes prior to their grand opening today and there were just a few cars waiting to the side as they blocked off all entrances til opening at 5:30. Once they parted the ways the few cars embarked into the drive in booths and the friendly voices on the other end of the call box were happy and ready to roll---er skate with pretty speedy service as cars kept coming through. The server came to an animated screeching stop to the window and handed me my breakfast toaster, breakfast cheesy tots, and, er, breakfast green apple slush. The closest Sonic Drive-In prior to my area was the one opened in Santee, otherwise it woud be a late night snack on the way out from Disneyland at the Anaheim location. Both Sonics had pretty good service, but sometimes came with a few setbacks like speed of service, or confusion with the order. So far, Sonic Drive-In Vista does not disappoint! They were all extremely friendly, the service was quick, and the food delicious. I need a second job..I wonder if they're still hiring. And if my roller skates are still good to use. read more

I have been dying to go to Sonic ever since it first opened in Santee. We went during the first few weeks and the lines were insanely long. So its been awhile now and I just heard there was also a Sonic in Vista. Last night for Valentine's Day, all I wanted to do was go to Sonic and get a Cherry Limeade. They actually had Diet which was even better. The hamburger was so-so, and I will always be a fan of tater tots. This place, was not user friendly to a person that has a vision disability, the menu board, was not easy to read, I had a large Diet Coke, and when I asked for a refil, I was told that it would be like buying another drink, which is not good for me, most of the places I go to give you free refils, even if you just buy a drink. as for customer service on a scale of 10, I have to give this place a minus 50, for my first time at this place it will be my last. Not a huge fan of Sonic for a few reasons: -They parked themselves right next to a San Diego landmark and tradition-- Peppertree Frosty. Kind of rude if you ask me. -Their food isn't very good. I have been to Sonic 4 or 5 times now. At 2 locations in Sand Diego and in Palm Springs area. I don't get it. I've tried several different things, had the flavored soda with their "special ice" and it's always been, what I call a decent "home style" burger. Something you can make at home with a little effort. But nothing that makes you go Wow! It won't change your life and that makes it just ok. The experience is nice and the novelty of the roller skates and servers on wheels won't make up for ordinary burgers. So I give it a 3 stars because I like the idea of what they do at Sonic, but I must say I'm not a huge fan of walking up and ordering through a machine. My first trip here I was so confused. That being said... I like the food here. The hamburgers are quite good and so are the milkshakes. And it's at a reasonable price. The servers are also extremely nice. The day I came it was very hot. I had my food to go and my food was ready; I was just waiting for my friend for his food to arrive. The server came out and began talking to us as she was giving my friend his food, then she asked me if I wanted water because she saw I was sweating and just exhausted. My server didn't offer me water because I didn't order or ask for any so I don't hold that against her, but I was just really surprised this server went out of her way to ask if I wanted any. Ordered a number 8 Medium meal with an extra side of mozzarella sticks and replace my drink with a shake. They charged me for a meal with mozzarella sticks with a drink and a shake never got my fries and the drink they charged me for. Got charged for a drink as well as the shake and never got a drink.
