I confirmed that we had 1 coupon and I would be paying for the second limeade. When Briana delivered the Limeades, she quoted a total of $2.15. I rarely carry cash so gave her my credit card. She ran it through the machine and then said, "Oh, wait. If I run this then it will charge you for both Limeades. So I need you to pay me cash." This made no sense since she quoted me $2.15 as a total due so why would it suddenly become $4.30? When asked if my card was charged, Briana stated she cancelled it. Seeing that I was coming up short on cash then said, "Oh, you can just give me $2." However, I managed to find another dollar and gave her $3. She brought me back $0.45 in change. Long ago are the days of extended waits to get the tasty toasters and the tots. This real Midwestern Americana's Manifest Destiny was slow and steady. It took ages to come here and moments to forget, but in the meantime the quality declined, the service declined and the novelty has even worn off. It's become only slightly better tasting that McDonalds. For sure they are built well with fresh lettuce and whatnot, but the burger patty's are weak, the cheese sucks and even the toasters have gone down the drain. Thinner, less toasted and basically fall apart in your hand. Bacon is still crisp and legit for a fast food chain. They still make good chicken items, all in all, I wish they had some spice though. They come up with some nifty items, but like Jbo they never last and really would if they considered the ingredients. Their profile ideas are good. Fries are terrible, tots are pretty good, corn dogs are ok, but small. Drinks are where they shine, sodas, teas, limeade's add on's, shakes. All for the most part excellent and worth it if you're a fan of those things. Cherry limeade with rum or vodka is a treat. The mints are still a nice touch. The parking stalls are something most people aren't used to because the era and location where they were most prevalent simply wasn't San Diego for anyone younger than 35. When I come here I don't see the generation that would remember it eating there. It's full of youthful teens late at night or transplants. Initially the long lines overflowed into the streets making the design a little weird, but not with the slower business it's much more calm, almost no waits. I remember when the staff here moved like figure skaters and ballerinas, now they skate like drunks, dropping and falling and whathaveyou. I love how they deliver to Mother Earth just a block away. For nostalgia sake I come here, for convenience sake I come here, but for the food I do not, aside from a few items. I've been wanting to try Sonic for a long time and looks like I'll have to keep waiting. I was running around today when I saw this restaurant and thought "great", finally I get to try! I pulled into the drive-thru, not another single car in line. When I pulled up the person on the intercom said something... I couldn't make it out because it was one of those where you can't make out one thing the person is saying. So I ordered a cheeseburger. The person came back and rather rudely told me to WAIT! Okay, I thought... seemed odd in the middle of the day, 12:30pm, and no cars in line but I waited as ordered. Five minutes... no response... I know that sounds lame, but really? Five minutes and not another car in line? Middle of the day, lunch hour? Finally the person came back on the barely understandable speaker. I told her I wanted a cheeseburger. She asked if I wanted the #1 meal and I told her "no", I just wanted a cheeseburger. She repeated it back to me as if I was ordering a bag of cockroaches. I told her "yes", I just wanted a cheeseburger. She said okay and then asked me what I wanted for my sides! I told her again that I just wanted a cheeseburger... no sides, no meal... just a cheeseburger. Again, she asked me if I wanted the #1.... Well, that was all I could stand and just drove away. I want to re-emphasize this was during lunch, there wasn't another car in line, and there were maybe five cars in the parking lot. Ever since Sonic updated their systems to accept payments via app, it has been an issue for both staff and customers alike. But I still love Sonic and regardless of my last review, I have continued to support Sonic. Especially during this hot weather! My recent visit to Sonic just blew me away with their outstanding customer service, that I knew it was time to update my review. I had the pleasure to have 1 team member, 1 assistant manager, and 1 manager help me yesterday. Everyone was very polite and went the extra mile with my order. This was my first time making an in-app order to receive the happy hour discount. And I used my yelp coupon to make an additional order. Emmanuel brought out my free medium cherry limeade promptly, and answered further questions I had about making an online order. An assistant manager brought me out my online order and Aaliyah was the SWEETEST girl ever. I take great notice if service members actually ask how your day is going and if they're actively listening. I know simple questions like that become boring and rehearsed. But Aaliyah made sure we were well taken care of and asked if there was more she can do to service us. She then came back to the car just to ask if my app purchase went through. I told her everything came through on my end but I can wait until she double checks with the manager. The manager, Joseph, comes out to apologize but my order showed up, but it didn't take my money from the app. We were able to fix it promptly, and he explained the hiccups they've received with happy hour on top of the new app they're adapting to. I told him he's doing a great job being a leader because despite the hassles they're probably experiencing, the customer service they're giving has amazing. He was taken back to hear good news for once and put a smile on his face that his team members are doing their job 110%. Times like this I have to take a step back and realize there are good members who are trying to make the best out of a situation and continue to roll with the punches technology sends our way. I normally don't have issues when I come here but this time not only was the first guy rude when he took our order but we waited for over 20 mins after seeing the status of our order say the food was ready before asking on an update for our order after watching everyone around us get their food. We ordered 2 sonic Blasts and one corn dog. The girl that came over was rude and said that the order is still up. Then we asked one of the people working that walked by if he knew how much longer it would be and he rolled his eyes before saying he'd check. I understand when it's busy but it would be nice for better service and just communication that the order might be delayed. If you can survive the chaos, you'll enjoy some great fast food,. The Vista Sonic is walking distance from the Sprinter station. Judging by the long lines of cars we lucked out by doing a walk up order. There are various ordering boxes outside around the seating area. Once you are ready to order push the button. There were a couple of problems with the ordering for us, and everyone else ordering walk-up style. First, Sonic was blasting music so it was difficult to communicate during the ordering process. Secondly, the person taking the order ALWAYS cut you off mid order and asked you to hold...This was irritating because you had to re state your order once or twice. Once the order was complete,. it was a quick slide of the credit card and you wait for your food to come. It took about 10 minutes for the order to skate to our table, which is too long by fast food standards. It was very crowded so I do give them a break there. The food was very good. Onion Rings are on the "sweet" side. My Bacon Cheeseburger Toaster was GREAT. I love the Limeaid drinks. Diet Limeade was very drinkable. Really I'm at more like a 3.5 stars for Sonic. Why? Because it's so hit or miss. Sometimes..... The slushes are GREAT! Lots of flavor. Lots of fresh fruit (when applicable). Yummo. The fries are hot and fresh. The burgers are fresh, hot and juicy. Delicious: with all the toppings at a perfect ratio. How you order it-- is how you get it Sometimes..... The slushes are weak. Poorly mixed. Even with an added flavor shot- not too jazzy. The fries are old, cold and stale. The burgers are cool and the cheese can't melt on them. Things are lopsided. How you ordered it wasn't taken into account when they made it. Weird Things I Tried & What I Learned As A Result: NY Hot Dog--- No they have not ever visited NY. No they didn't have a dog while they were there, if they did go. Chicken Strip Sandwich ($1.00 on the value menu)--- Wow. Don't tell corporate but I'd pay more than a buck for this. Especially if they leave off the mayo, as requested. Cream Pie Shakes--- Don't start testing out the cream pie shakes unless you're okay with getting addicted. Bring a friend and split one (or two friends!) so you're butt doesn't get POed that you're adding to it. Chili Burrito thing (off the value menu)--- Hm. Fritos are ok. Fritos in Burritos get squishy. Chili is so so. If you already like the chili there, you'll like this. Chocolate Malt--- Wow. Made me learn how to make my own malts at home and buy malt powder. Toasters--- Anything but the BLT is good and that's not bad either. Tots--- Are way too greasy. Always. Cheddar Bites--- Is this even legal? Ok. It's legal... but ethical? It's cheddar cheese, battered and dipped in ranch. Ok. They don't make you dip it... but it's provided. If you feel up to a calorie splurge, it's delicious. Jalapeno Poppers--- Average. I like it when the jalapenos are diced up in poppers and these are not that way. That's just me, though. Also: Why is the value menu so tiny it's hard to read on the drive-thru? I literally just have to guess at what possible names are and look like an ass. Sorry people. I am not an ass. I just have 20-20 vision with my glasses on and couldn't read that tiny stuff. They're always nice about it, though .. Further more: I've never had a moment of bad customer service at this location. Will we be back? Of course. There's only one Sonic and my dear one is kind of a natural gambler and a natural slush-addict. PS: Later at night equals better food. Its like the reverse of most places. I love that Sonic brings back the original drive-in restaurant. Talk about 1950s Americana. It's so incredibly novel...you drive up, take your order, and someone with rollerskates comes with your order. How cool is that? I never see anything like this; there might be a couple mom-and-pop establishments that do the traditional drive-in, but because I live in SoCal, this will have to do (unless someone knows another local place, otherwise...let me know!). A couple things, though. Don't come in with high expectations about the food; I didn't and ended up enjoying what I had. I know it's rather pricey for fast food, but I figure that has to do with maintaining the restaurant...no one does this, anymore, so of course it's gonna be overpriced. I've been to this Sonic two times in the last week, and I have had excellent experiences both times. Both times, I just ordered beverages through the drive through. The drinks were exactly what I wanted-- no issues with them. The vanilla milkshake in particular was sooo thick- no idea how they get it like that! I've also tried their pickle juice slush, which surprisingly I really like! The customer service both times has been great! The first visit it was soooo hot outside, I believe it was the day it was 110 in Escondido. We were second in line at the drive through and just ordered a slush. The guy that worked there walked it out to us so we would not have to wait longer. The second time, the employees were so friendly. Not sure why others had such terrible experiences here (by looking at other reviews) but every experience I have had has been great! read more

I've only ever had Sonic's drinks before. I decided to give their burgers a try. I had the #1 combo, which is the sonic cheeseburger with fries. I replaced the drink with a Reese's overload milkshake. The burger was amazing! Very juicy and flavorful and the fries were great too! I ordered a side of honey mustard for the fries, which was okay. Not the best, but not bad. The milkshake was very thick and had a lot of Reese's pieces inside of it, perfect for peanut butter fans! I also ordered six of their boneless wings. I was surprised at how good their wings were!! Super juicy!! I order ranch for the wings, the ranch was similar to the honey mustard as far as tasting okay. Not the best, but not bad. The food at sonic is very juicy and flavorful and the carhop was extremely friendly when she brought the food over! This five star is NOT for the food, not for the service, but for the entertainment value. We waited 20 min at the stalls just for them to tell us the stalls are closed with no reason. Also would like to mention that the cars around us ordered and got their food. We then proceeded to the drive thru where we sat at the order box for 10-15 min in silence. We attempted to call them to see if they were still open but got no answer. We pull forward because there was a long line and at least 5 cars behind us proceeded to just leave (in anger). MOST HORRIBLE SERVICE EVER THERE. We went there today to order two slushes, mozzarella sticks, pretzel and boneless wing combo in that order. We waiting for our food like normal, didn't take too long. When the lady gave us our food she took our card to go pay and say we're sitting in the car we realized the lady never asked us if we wanted fries or tots with our combo. So she came back with my card and we let her know that we never got our tots and we would like it. She told us "well I'm going to have to charge you for the tots because we substituted the side for the combo with the mozzarella sticks" we told her that "we had never asked for that to be our side so we'd like our tots" she then brings out her shift lead and she yells at us saying we can't get anything because they substituted our side without asking and then just walks away. Left our car and didn't come back. For a person who has worked in the food and retail business for over 6 years was very very upset. Even if the customer is wrong you tell them that they are right and make them happy so they come again. However I would not be surprised if I never come back to this location again.
