Terrible service. Had to pay for my "free" reward and the car hop refused to refund my money and told me that I ordered it wrong. Corporate sent me 4 emails asking for the exact same info I had given them and then told me that I was getting a refund but if I don't receive it, to return to the Sonic that it was due from. I just don't know what to say. There was no one there in the drive thru. There were a couple of cars at the stalls, but it seemed like they were there for a while. Pulled up to the drive thru and no answer. Moved forward to the window and no one acknowledged us. Reversed back to the drive thru speaker and honked the horn. They are supposed to be open until 1am! Drove back to the window and still, no acknowledgement. Decided to to park in the stall then pressed the service button. An employee ran to us and said they can see we're at the drive thru, but they're busy. You'd think having a head set on, you can just tell the customer that they're a bit busy, but they'll get to you as soon as possible. But that didn't happen. Drove back to the speaker of the drive thru and then someone spoke to us. For all the things we ordered, total was $17.49. I have exact change for this, so I'm happy. Thought the process would be quick, it's fast food right? Wrong! Maybe 4 mins after paying, the kid comes to the window and said it'd take a while for the chicken tenders. That's fine, wasn't thinking more than 5 mins. It's 12:30am. I shouldn't think. We literally waited probably fifteen/twenty mins for our food. Finally, he gave us our food. I had heard awesome things about this place and especially their shakes, but my first time at a Sonic was merely ok. Hubby and I pulled into a drive up and studied the menu. We wanted a shake and, on a whim, ordered some buffalo wings. It took about 20 minutes for the food to arrive. The Hot Fudge Shake was pretty good, the buffalo wings were a bit too greasy and spicy for me, but I'm not a huge fan of spicy buffalo wings in the first place. I like the concept of this place, the drive up or drive thru window with the car hops on skates bringing your food out, very cute. I just wish they'd speed up the service a bit. I've honestly never had a worse experience at any fast food place. My toddler was dying to try a Sonic shake, so I took him this morning. We waited for over 20 minutes with the call light on to order. Then when they got to us, they cut out without taking our order and we lost our place in line. Cue another 10 minutes of waiting before even being able to order. There was another family there who said they waited over half an hour for food, and then their food was cold when it arrived. I told the staff working that the call button wasn't working and that it had canceled without taking our order, and she gave me a blank stare and then told me to try again. Opened up their app while I was some miles away to see what specials they had. App gave me an offer to get a half price blast and half price limeade, and a few other things. After arriving at the store and unable to pay on the app due to a greyed out button, I spoke with staff at the store. They say it's because the app stops working at 11 or 11:30 ( they aren't sure). So I asked if they could just apply the offers to my order manually, given that I drove here after being shown the one time "expiring today" offer. Nope. She asked a "manager" obviously one with excellent people skills. So I said thanks, but I guess I wasted a trip. First time using the app(trying to) and last time at this chain. Come here for the ice cream. Ordered three ice cream cones.. took forever.. when they gave me the first ice cream cone it literally was melting and fell if the cone onto my lap and wallet, the girl at the window still tried to hand me the rest of the meting ice cream cones and didn't offer me napkins until I told her don't you see that it's melting and it completely fell apart and onto my lap could you give me some napkins?. Then I asked her to remake then because she still wanted me to take the melted ones so she offered to put them in a cup and I was like fine. Then she gives me the ice cream in a cup so I ask for spoons for them and she tells me they are completely out of spoons and straws etc.... How are you out of spoons and straws and still selling hard ice cream and drinks until midnight? So whatever then she tells me I owe her 8.75$ for three ice cream cones even though I already paid her at the beginning of all of this I know this place is mainly high school kids but come On. Employees are never on the same page. It's always something new EVERYTIME I come in. I come in every other day to satisfy my pregnancy cravings with a nice cold drink. It's convenient which is why I continue to return. Tonight I came in for a free cherry limeade with check in SPECIFICALLY for the vista location.. (which I've done many times before) and they refused to give me the drink despite my coupon I had. It's a mess with lack of training. Nobody is on the same page, everytime I order mine and my boyfriends order it comes out to a different price. Same order everytime. The list goes on of how terrible it is here. I'm a door dash driver every time I come here to pick up its been a 30-40 min wait. Slows me down working cause I don't get paid to make up the time. You can hear the staff yelling and fighting with each other over who's gonna take out the trash. I don't think their issue is being "short staffed" it's just there's no discipline here and bad management. It was at this time Carhop Nate informed me that I had received too many "free drink receipts" and that it was COMPANY POLICY to refuse the customer their receipt which contained another "free route 44 on next visit" survey code. I informed carhop Nate that it was Sonic providing the survey codes for a "free drink" and that it was out of his and my control. Carhop Nate then informed me that I would no longer be given a receipt containing a survey code for a "free route 44 on next visit." I believe Carhop Nate is lying about the company policy and wants to keep the survey codes for himself or he's taken it upon himself to determine who is eligible to receive the survey codes instead of the company. I too work in the retail industry (CVS Pharmacy) and understand the pressures of the customer service industry but when a customer of ours receives "extra care bucks" it is not up to me to determine who may or may not be allowed to use them. Return customers and customer satisfaction is what drives our industry, when someone like Nate injures and destroys that trust the financial reproductions of losing even one customer is not acceptable. At this Sonics location you may either drive-thru, park, or sit outside. If you choose to park or sit outside an employee will roll or blade to your parking spot or bench to bring your order out. I'm only giving this place three stars because I did not try any of the food. For my first time, I am somewhat impressed. Who ever heard of a fast food chain having "happy hour"? For happy hour at Sonics, their drinks and slushes are 50% off! I have a family of four, so that is music to my ears!!! I tried the banana pie shake which was okay. It wasn't "wow" or "gotta have more" or anything like that. It was good... as good as a milkshake can get. What I really liked was their real fruit slushes for the kids- lime, strawberry, lemon and lemon-berry. It has less sugar than the regular slushes. With the two toddlers I have... they do not need that much sugar. The guy that brought out our food was very customer service oriented... which took me by surprise because it is a fast food chain. If there was place for me to give him I tip I would have. All in all, I was satisfied with the service I got and the price I paid. For a family of four I only paid $5. Based off the fact that it is a fast food chain, I'd give this place 3 stars. It isn't crazy good but it isn't crazy bad. Boy did the craze wear off quickly here! I hear santee's location was for months to months on end?? While I absolutely LOATHE the location... I like the concept of a drive in. I don't like the fact that drive thru isn't as defined as it should be. It mixes in with traffic going in and out of the drive-in spots. Also, what is up with the drive-thru menu being so far from the place to put your order?!? You need to have a really good eye sight just to see pricing and all that is on the menu!!! They seriously need to move that forward. The happy hour is only from 2-4pm (sucks... uh aren't people still at work??), it needs to be extended to accommodate those who does the 9 to 5 work hours. But really... i only come here for 2 things... the chili-cheese tater tots and the powerade slush. Yum. the burgers aren't my cup of tea and the onion rings have a nasty sweetness to it that is a major turn off. But I love how they have tater tots... A few weeks back, at the Mother Earth Brewventure Event, Bill P. was talking about how the carhops at Sonic a few blocks away would actually skate orders down to the brewery when they were called in (sadly, this practice is no longer in effect). Hearing the story gave me an inexplicable craving for Sonic's tater tots, so I walked down to order some. While the tots at least were crispy, and the price was about right (under $3 for a large order), the whole ordering process was a pain in the rear. It took a while for someone to answer the intercom from the patio, and I had to practically yell my order into the speaker (similar to how I ordered my meal when my girlfriend and I went to the Sonic location near her place). Also, it took a while for my order to be ready - how hard is it to get an order of tater tots? Still, not that bad as it appears - consider this review a 2.5 star. read more

My kids love Sonic and we rarely go. So we stopped by this location in our way through town. Don't bother pulling up and expect any kind of customer service. Save yourself the trouble and go trough the drive through if you bother to go here at all. Staff were so rude. I came out for another try after the last one and we actually got what we ordered. As I stated last time, I was going to try to just get drinks. The service wasn't the fastest but our orders were correct. The staff was friendly as well. It was happy hour as well, so that helped a lot. I always go to Sonic for the Slush and shakes. Though the slush was great, the service was average. Manager, or person who seemed to be in charge was great and very professional. When I asked if I could have my order corrected she did so without a problem. They had just forgot to add nerds to my slush which honestly was not a problem. She did so very kindly. The other staff though were not the greatest. When I approached the door to have it corrected they clearly saw me and made eye contact with me. They completely looked away from me and continued to carry the conversation they were having. Seemed like their conversation was very interesting, I was a little curious what was so interesting. Food is 40/60. Sometimes it's the sonic you expect, most of the time it's no where near worth the prices. ALWAYS slow (if you are a Dasher/food delivery driver I would avoid this location all together), so slow you would think your food is going to be piping hot and fresh, but nope. They hire way too many kids with no sense of urgency. My younger brother worked here for about 2 years and he was able to become a MANAGER at 16/17 years old. Great for my brother money wise but TERRIBLE business decision, no reason a kid in high school should be managing a store. The inside is disgusting, the ADULT managers are dull and all clearly hate their job/lives and they are SEVERELY understaffed. The amount of friends that told me they worked 55+ hours a week while still in school is absolutely unacceptable. (And illegal) 2 big thumbs down for this location. The GM obviously just cares about the cash flow he's getting and not at all about the actual quality of food/service his location is providing. read more

Received a free medium Cherry Limeade in the mail so we stopped by tonight. When we placed our order for 2 medium Cherry Limeades, our server asked if we had a coupon. I confirmed that we had 1 coupon and I would be paying for the second limeade. When Briana delivered the Limeades, she quoted a total of $2.15. I rarely carry cash so gave her my credit card. She ran it through the machine and then said, "Oh, wait. If I run this then it will charge you for both Limeades. So I need you to pay me cash." This made no sense since she quoted me $2.15 as a total due so why would it suddenly become $4.30? When asked if my card was charged, Briana stated she cancelled it. Seeing that I was coming up short on cash then said, "Oh, you can just give me $2." However, I managed to find another dollar and gave her $3. She brought me back $0.45 in change. Long ago are the days of extended waits to get the tasty toasters and the tots. This real Midwestern Americana's Manifest Destiny was slow and steady. It took ages to come here and moments to forget, but in the meantime the quality declined, the service declined and the novelty has even worn off. It's become only slightly better tasting that McDonalds. For sure they are built well with fresh lettuce and whatnot, but the burger patty's are weak, the cheese sucks and even the toasters have gone down the drain. Thinner, less toasted and basically fall apart in your hand. Bacon is still crisp and legit for a fast food chain. They still make good chicken items, all in all, I wish they had some spice though. They come up with some nifty items, but like Jbo they never last and really would if they considered the ingredients. Their profile ideas are good. Fries are terrible, tots are pretty good, corn dogs are ok, but small. Drinks are where they shine, sodas, teas, limeade's add on's, shakes. All for the most part excellent and worth it if you're a fan of those things. Cherry limeade with rum or vodka is a treat. The mints are still a nice touch. The parking stalls are something most people aren't used to because the era and location where they were most prevalent simply wasn't San Diego for anyone younger than 35. When I come here I don't see the generation that would remember it eating there. It's full of youthful teens late at night or transplants. Initially the long lines overflowed into the streets making the design a little weird, but not with the slower business it's much more calm, almost no waits. I remember when the staff here moved like figure skaters and ballerinas, now they skate like drunks, dropping and falling and whathaveyou. I love how they deliver to Mother Earth just a block away. For nostalgia sake I come here, for convenience sake I come here, but for the food I do not, aside from a few items. I pulled into the drive-thru, not another single car in line. When I pulled up the person on the intercom said something... I couldn't make it out because it was one of those where you can't make out one thing the person is saying. So I ordered a cheeseburger. The person came back and rather rudely told me to WAIT! Okay, I thought... seemed odd in the middle of the day, 12:30pm, and no cars in line but I waited as ordered. Five minutes... no response... I know that sounds lame, but really? Five minutes and not another car in line? Middle of the day, lunch hour? Finally the person came back on the barely understandable speaker. I told her I wanted a cheeseburger. She asked if I wanted the #1 meal and I told her "no", I just wanted a cheeseburger. She repeated it back to me as if I was ordering a bag of cockroaches. I told her "yes", I just wanted a cheeseburger. She said okay and then asked me what I wanted for my sides! I told her again that I just wanted a cheeseburger... no sides, no meal... just a cheeseburger. Again, she asked me if I wanted the #1.... Well, that was all I could stand and just drove away. I want to re-emphasize this was during lunch, there wasn't another car in line, and there were maybe five cars in the parking lot. I really wanted to give them a try but it's just isn't worth that kind of hassle. I'm not asking you to run out and polish my car while I'm ordering but hey, I've worked fast food. I know it sounds crazy but when I worked in fast food, we used to anticipate extra business during the "lunch hour" and we were prepared. And if the customer wants only a cheeseburger, we don't try and upsell everything. But hey, I get it... pretty common these days but after the 3rd and 4th time when I've said I don't want anything else but a cheeseburger.... is it REALLY that hard?
