Our absolute favorite ice cream spot in the area! The atmosphere is so cute, with plenty of seating both inside and out - perfect for any weather. Stopped in for a late night dessert with friends. Located in the developing area of North City right across the street from CSUSM, this ice cream shop is nestled in an adorable little center with small patches of open grassy areas and plenty of seating. My husband and I split a flight of their holiday ice cream which was a great deal, perfect portions and the ability to try more options off their menu. The peppermint mocha was chocolaty and minty! What I love about Wynston's is their devotion to the community. North city hosted a free Toy Story movie night right outside of their shop, and they went out of their way to create a custom flavor for the night! Their ice cream itself is always very creamy and they have a good mix of standard flavors and some speciality ones as well. But beyond having good quality ice cream, I really appreciated their effort to bring something to the community :) Note: if you're coming here for a quick trip by car, it can be kind of hard to find street parking in this area sometimes. They do have a parking deck nearby that has 2 hours free retail parking but sometimes idc enough to be doing all that for ice cream. So just come prepared for that! read more

I have two kids and we've tried pretty much every ice cream spot in North County San Diego, so trust me when I say Winston's is on another level. I got the mint chocolate and it was a revelation. No artificial green color, no fake mint extract flavor, just real, clean mint that actually tastes like the plant. Better than Handel's ice cream! I got a kid's scoop of the Perfect PBC and it was so creamy, so delicious, and just what I wanted. Unfortunately, I am NOT a fan of the tiny cup they've decided to use for the kid's scoop. As you can see in the picture, it is still a generous scoop and therefore should be in a larger cup to account for the melting to eating ratio! Also, the consistency of what a kid's scoop was... kinda of shocked me and my friend because they were very different sizes from each other and obviously the same price(hers being much smaller than mine). Upon entering the atmosphere is warm and inviting, a great place to enjoy delicious ice cream which is exactly what we did, the store has a small seating area inside and some more seating outside. Despite having only one person serving, the wait time was impressively short, the young man was very efficient and patient while we made our selections and he repeated our order back to ensure accuracy. The ice cream was outstanding the shakes thoughtfully prepared. The portions were generous, and the prices were reasonable we ordered 1 small ice cream and 2 shakes and paid $33. Especially love to visit on Tuesday - Farmers Market Day - when there is a musician outside. The Always flavors are yummy and the Sometimes flavors are even better! All homemade. Unique mixes that taste so good. I have so many I like each month, but my all time go to is Cider Mill - apple cider donuts with Cinammon in vanilla ice cream - so tasty! I think it comes out in October or November. I'm loving the vanilla truffle this month (June) and I get so excited for the new flavors the 1st of each month. It was hot outside and it took pretty long to get to the front. There were only 2 employees, one taking order and one doing ice cream. We got the strawberry shortcake, cookies and cream, mint chocolate chip, and that cookie dough. We liked the strawberry shortcake and cookies and cream. Mint chocolate chip tasted like toothpaste and barely any chocolate chunks, we found like 2 near the bottom, and the cookie dough was not that good. Weird tasting, couldn't pin it down. The ice creams were also more icy then we liked. It wasn't creamy or silky like Handel's. The flavor for the strawberry shortcake was there though and we enjoyed that one the most! Would I come back? I have been here in the past when it was across the street from where they are now located and I recall this being such a good place for ice cream, however my past visit here left me with nothing but disappointment. I went with Santa's got a brand new bag, and it was completely tasteless, it had a sort of crunch "ice" texture like it was freezer burned, but I could not even pick up the faintest hints of Kahlua, Amaretto, white chocolate, or caramel, literally tasteless.
