Great Place for Ribs. One of my favorite Sonnys locations. Fast friendly service, clean restrooms and the salad bar is always fresh. Unlike other Sonny's I've been to, the TV is not overwhelming. You can actually enjoy your meal without being blasted by some form of media like TV or blaring loud music ! I have had enough with this location. They just recently renovated it to achieve the look of all the other restaurants and while it looks like all the others recently renovated, the food has gotten even worse. I have had multiple instances of being served extremely sub-par food at this particular location and it is a problem that has still not been solved. There is virtually NO quality control and management doesn't want to hear about it. They only say "no one else complains about it" and I have spent my last dollar at this place. If you are a brisket lover, avoid this place like the plague. While the service is what you can expect at all the locations (the servers are always pleasant), it's the food that's really driving me away. Brisket shouldn't be extremely dry and tasteless and everything else, no matter WHAT it is, is covered in grease. When even my beverage and silverware are covered in it and it just keeps on happening, it's time to give up and cut ties. I'm not sure why they claim to have a "pitmaster" because any pitmaster who knows his job knows to season the meats. Why is every bit of the meat they serve here bland as flour? I won't be spending my money here anymore. Times are tough and it's a hard thing for me to pay for food and not even be able to eat it. read more

The food here is good but not great. I prefer the new location on Archer road in Gainesville. We had a group of 10 people. The drinks came out right away and the server was very nice. When it came to the food, 3 people got their food within 5 minutes, the rest got out about 30 minutes later. We placed a order to go. We were told it would be 45 minutes to fill the order. After 15 minutes they had run out of chicken and brisket. It was very chaotic and to be honest the girl at the counter was doing her best. The order was put in wrong so there was an order missing. We called in so they told us to go back. Upon arrival we found out they never charged us. So the girl then tells us to wait and that she would talk to the manager. After 20 minutes she comes back to the car and says she was barely going to put the order in. We then told her not to worry about it. I'm hoping this was a one time incident but management really needs to step it up. read more

Super fast service. Made a late lunch pitstop while on the road. I was say immediately, drink order taken and had my food out in under 5 minutes! If you want to eat at Sonnys and have good barbecue, do not go to the Sonnys in Alachua. Today we had the worst meals we have ever had at a Sonnys restaurant. They were out of two things we ordered, the fries were terrible, the ribs were tough, and the garlic bread was hard. This was the last time I go there. Our visit after church today wasn't as expected. Our food was Luke warm and I wasn't to crazy about the lack of substitutions. I think if your paying for something and your a guest they should accommodate. The servers all seemed to be overwhelmed and running behind. Not sure if it was the kitchen at fault or server but our appetizer and food came out within 60 seconds of each other. Also the rest of the world is back to normal...... when's the salad bar coming back? All that being said our server was super sweet just seemed to have a lot going on. The server brought me the wrong drink, then it took a long time for me to get the right drink. The pulled pork was full of big hunks of fat. We stopped in to get a bite to eat and was surprised to see a waiter remove dishes from a table and seat other guest without sanitizing the table. They also had a special listed for the day of 14.99 for all you could eat ribs and the regular price was 13.99. The floor was dirty and your shoes would stick to the floor when you walked. The tables and furniture need to be replaced because they were in BAD shape. We decided to go somewhere else and eat. Worst customer service ever. My server Makayla took my order and I never saw her again until I had to ask another server to get my check. I needed more napkins and another beer. She never checked back to see if everything was ok or if I needed anything else. The two tables in front of me got checked at least 6 times, maybe it was because I was by myself and Makayla thought I wouldn't tip as well. I highly respect servers for working through this pandemic and I always tip 40% or more. I'm new to High Springs and have been working for the restaurant industry for over 25years as management. I strongly believe that people who come in are treated as guests not customers, Walmart has customers, restaurants have guests like in your home. Wont be coming back unfortunately. When I visit Alachua which is quite often, Sonny's claims at least one of our meals. We have dined in 3 Sonny's in the areas between Alachua and Gainesville. This is probably my least favorite. The food is good and I really enjoy it but the restaurant needs some updating especially when compared to the other Sonny's in the area of which one is brand new and the other fairly new. Regarding the food, Sonny's never disappoints. My last visit here I had the baby back ribs which were tender. I just love how their bbq sauce caramelized on the ribs. Their corn muffins were fresh. The place was pretty busy for lunch. Frank had the Sweet and Smoky. He always enjoys the St. Louis Style ribs w/ beans and cole slaw. We will definitely be back to Sonny's soon but likely to either Gainesville on Archer Road or the one on NW 39th Avenue until this one goes through a remodel. read more

Went back to give it another try. Got ignored when we first walked in but once we gave our name we were told it would be about 5-10 minutes. Got seated in 6 minutes, not bad, but on the way to our table we counted at least 8 tables that had been cleaned and were available. There were more people coming in but everyone had to get their name on the list to be seated. They didn't seem that efficient at the seating part. Oh well, our server was very good, friendly and let me substitute the salad bar instead of getting 2 sides. Food came quickly, faster than we were seated, and was good. Sliced pork was moist and flavorful. Garlic bread was a little under toasted and greasy but had great flavor. Wife had the turkey and it was moist with a hint of that smokey flavor. We had a coupon to try the red-neck egg rolls. They were very tasty. Not a fan of the dipping sauce but the rolls were good just a little off on the slaw to pork ratio but the cheese inside was what really made it. Our return to this restaurant was better than the last and some they could do some things better but all in all a good experience. I tried that Rib meat sandwich and it was TOUGH TOUGH TOUGH and maybe from the night before, that or they just burned it. Seriously a jerky sandwich would have been more tender. I only took one bite. We have been there twice. Surprised by how beat up the place is, and dirty. Tables sticky. Menus slippery. Floor grungy. Had pork BBQ sandwich which was Ok but nothing great. Picked out a lot of fatty pieces. The roasted chicken was fine. Sides are predictable and OK if you stick with cole slaw and starchy stuff (potatoes, macaroni, etc.) Salad bar was mess both times we visited and very unappealing. I refused to order any produce because I didn't trust the kitchen. Overall quality sub-par, even for a budget type restaurant. OK, it's a bargain place, but there is NO EXCUSE for a restaurant to be so grimy or for a salad bar to look like a riot had occurred. I DO expect cleanliness. My impression is that owners/managers don't care. This place has top down management issues so we won't be going back. read more

I haven't been to a Sonnys in almost 4 years.went last night and was reminded why I don't go anymore. To put it bluntly, sonnys has become the McDonald's of BBQ... food was horribly dissappointing, severs and hostess made us feel like we were an annoyance as apposed to a paying customer. The bbq chicken we ordered was dry and flavorless, even after loading on the sauce. Tasted like it had been sitting out for a While. We had to beg for a fork to eat our salads, and our waitress was more excited that she was getting a big top than taking care of the tables she did have. Bottom line, I'm never going to bother with eating at sonnys again. Just a big mouthful of disappointment. I'll make the extra effort to go to my hole in the wall gas station bbq joints... you know... where they Actually Smoke The Meat In House! I have been eating at this Sonny's since it opened here in Alachua and I can say that since Mr. Tillman sold it, it has gone down hill! The food has changed along with service! Pork is not supposed to be a grayish black color and the chicken is not supposed to be bloody! On 2 different occasions I've tried talking to the manager about the Service and food quality, the coldness of the meat and all I received was confrontation from him! On this last visit I witnessed the manager in a confrontation with a family about their service, and when he walked by my table he was cussing about the customers! This definitely is not the Sonny's I Remember !! read more
