Ordered bbq pulled pork. Fries. Mac and cheese All were cold. Sent back. When returned fries were hot everything else still cold. Sent back when returned mac and cheese was hot pork still cold. And the meat tasted different. It was bitter and mushy. And still charge full price for the meal. No manager came. Very disappointed. Wont eat there again. Will be calling health dept tomorrow for not keeping food to temp. read more

We stopped here for lunch today and I ordered a full rack of st. Louis style ribs to go, on getting home I was shocked to find that there were only five ribs in the box and two fairly small sides. The ribs were terrible, very dehydrated and dry to the point that they looked like they'd been in a warmer for a couple hours. They were almost inedible without sauce, which defeats the purpose of dry rub ribs, and I gave up trying to eat them. The sides were good, although generic. This is the third time we've tried to order food from here and been met with complete disappointment. The quality of the food has taken a steep dive, but the employees are still great to deal with. The baby back ribs appear previously frozen, the St. Louis ribs were dried out and disappointing. While we understand we aren't going to get food the quality of someplace like Adam's or a real BBQ place, but Sonny's used to have fairly good ribs and bbq. I do not think we will be giving Sonny's another chance for a while. Very disappointing because they used to be decent and they're close to home. read more

I have been eating at this Sonny's since it opened here in Alachua and I can say that since Mr. Tillman sold it, it has gone down hill! The food has changed along with service! Pork is not supposed to be a grayish black color and the chicken is not supposed to be bloody! On 2 different occasions I've tried talking to the manager about the Service and food quality, the coldness of the meat and all I received was confrontation from him! On this last visit I witnessed the manager in a confrontation with a family about their service, and when he walked by my table he was cussing about the customers! I used to be a loyal sonnys customer, but since their renovations it appears they have changed their food too. The sliced beef and turkey both have cHanged.the turkey still is ok, but the beef was awful and ended up being my dogs dinner for a few nights. The beans also seem different. read more

It was an o.k. place. The food was good and plentiful, but this is a restaurant, not a drive thru. I am not really sure why, but it is.

I just left lunch here and though I only had the salad bar as my main course it was one of the most enjoyable meals I had in a long time! Our server, Cassie, made our experience memorable. Not only was she perfectly attentive and punctual she's a genuinely caring person and goes out of her way for her guests. Very inconsistent bbq, I have been eating at this location for atleast 10 years, but in the past few years the quality of the food has gone down. I recently ordered to-go and got the sliced beef brisket big deal. The brisket was very good, tender, and juicy. Went back the next day for dinner and ordered the beef brisket dinner plate and in my box was a poor excuse for brisket. It was dried out and tough, should not have even been served. This has happened multiple times with different meats including the sliced pork, and ribs. Sometimes you luck up and get a good plate but more commonly get over cooked meat. Also the baked potato was overcooked. So I will probably not be going to this location very often now. read more

This used to be a must visit place when back home but it's not the same. The portions seem much smaller and the salad bar has very little variety. I typically order what used to be called the dieters special, chicken with a salad bar and no fries. If ordering all white meat you used to get a nice size chicken breast and a wing. Now you get a small size maybe breast maybe partial breast and partial back. The salad bar has very little to offer in terms of actual items and most are chopped into tiny pieces. Maybe add green olives to the black olive, sliced cucumbers instead of diced, other cheeses, other vegies. The tea is still good! read more

I am a die hard SONNYS fan. Even through the change of no basting sauce to the dry rub crap I'm a fan. This location is hit or miss. Went yesterday and no sliced pork. Sadly it's not the first time they ran out of food. I worked at Sonnys for a long time so I know how it works. All I could eat ribs, and every rib I ate was amazing. The waitress was super informative about the menu, introduced me to ranch and garlic bread, and kept glasses and plates full. Amongst our party we had brisket, ribs, and a cheeseburger, and everyone was ecstatic about the food. This restaurant has NOT been the same since Sonny Tillman sold it. The parking lot is not adequate for the restaurant and I did not want to park on the unlit backside of the restaurant. Ordered take out at 7:14PM and did not get my order until 7:42PM. They have run out of meet twice in the last two weeks (at 6:30 or 7PM) - I usually eat here on Fridays but that will be changing. When the waiter came to inform those of us waiting for our take out, the waiter offered the lady next to me a refund while only offering me a replacement. I would have rather had the refund after waiting practically thirty minutes for take out. No apology provided. read more

I have eaten sonnys since i was a child. Not at this location but down in s florida. Then sonnys pulled out of there and i havent eaten it in years. But since i have moved up here i can say i am really happy to have sonnys in my life again. It never disappoints. It is just like i remember. The beef briskit is delicious. I am so disappointed. I have lived in the area and eaten at the Alachua Sonnys for over 30 years. Never an issue. Now, I have nothing good to say. Last week I took a friend to lunch there. She ordered the chopped brisket plate and I ordered the sliced brisket plate. She got a pile of meat, more than she could finish and I got 4 slices the size of four bandaids. I ordered a pound of sliced turkey to go for sandwiches at home. Got home to find turkey crumbs. All the crumbs from the bottom of the slicer. The next week I ordered a pound of chopped brisket. Got home to find a pound of sliced brisket. Today, I ordered two pounds of sliced brisket with no sauce. Paid over 30 dollars for it. Got to the car and knew it wasn't two pounds. Went to the dollar store and bought a food scale. Weighed less than a pound with box and unwanted sauce. Went back and asked for the two pounds I paid for!! They didn't care. I'm sick of getting robbed by these jerks. Tighten up people. I think your give-a-damn is busted!! read more

Didn't plan on visiting; stopped in to get out of a traffic jam on I-75. What a happy accident! Son had the rib lunch and devoured it. My husband had a Smoking Gun sandwich, which he, too, found delicious. I had the brisket lunch platter--also yummy and perfect size portion. Clean bathrooms and friendly staff. Only complaint : service was so fast that the traffic jam may still be waiting for us as we continue south. read more

A placed to be missed. Smells great, looks right, foods terrible. I had baby back ribs, reminded me of left overs and a microwave that didn't have enough power, came out cold but at least they were tuff as well. Daughter had the sweet and smokey ribs, she said they reminded her of jerky had to chew and chew to finish one. Son had Brunswick stew asked if main ingredient was lemon as it was so sour. Then the other half had seafood platter, once you get through the batter there was something similar to fish. On a good note the redneck egg roles were good, beer was cold and the ice had water. I have ate at this locations many times, but after today, never again. We arrived when they opened at 11:00. We were seated right away as no one else was there. I ordered pulled pork sandwich and my husband had sliced pork. We both ordered salad bar. What a joke of a salad bar. They only cover what is left from night before, then take lid off. Half the containers were empty. What was there ie lettuce, onions was wilted and dry. I tried picking out some that wasn't too bad. Beets only had 5 or 6 slices in container. Staff was working to get new out. Come on you just opened ! No krab salad that my husband likes. Not the selection they use to have. Sandwiches came in a reasonable time. The garlic bread hardly toasted, my "Pulled pork" was a pile of mush. They beans were the saddest I think I've ever had. There was a big piece of fat the resembled the blob in them. Sliced pork was OK. I didn't eat mine thinking I could take it home and doctor it up. No luck there dogs ate some, even they didn't want it. Potato salad was made with under cooked potatoes.
