Found this place while traveling and searching Yelp for a spot to eat. We decided to give it a try. Service-Service was terrible. I'm only taking 1 star away for service because it was just our waitress who was the problem. She was dismissive, slow, and kind of rude. Everyone else seemed to be doing their jobs. Food-9/10 Very much recommend. I got the 2 meat plate with mac n cheese and baked beans. The beans were omg delicious. Lots of pulled pork in them, def homemade! Mac n cheese was ok. Not the best, not the worst. The meat was so tender, flavorful, and smoky. The original bbq sauce was on point! Vibe- The vibe was good. Nothing special but not bad. Long wait for lunch when it wasn't busy and the meat in the pulled pork sandwich was cold. , not impressed. Beans were piping hot tho.

This was my first time trying this location; I received a $5 off coupon for signing up for their rewards program so I decided to give it a shot. Overall, the food itself was very good, exactly what I expect from Sonny's, which is a solid chain in my opinion. My only complaints are: 1) the containers used for the street corn appetizer I ordered and the side of beans I ordered were very, VERY small and made it not worth the price. 2) The gave me the wrong type of ribs (I ordered dry rub.) They were still good, though. 3) I requested certain sauces/dressings to be included with my order and they were not. read more

I have always loved Sonnys at rhe original location. So when i saw they built another location close to my job, i knew this place was i wanted to take my veteran employees for our annual veterans day luncheon. This place gets busy real quick during lunchtime so get there early or come after the rush. Brisket and ribs are really good as well as the baked beans. I found that the chicken was overpowering with the smoky flavor but chicken was still good. Service was ok but good for a new place. read more

Went in during the week for lunch and we were sat in the bar immediately. It's a nice place and lots of seating in the regular dining area. Both the hostess and waitress were great giving us some of their opinions on what to order. We started with the pork egg rolls and Alabama white sauce wings. The pork rolls were good but the wings we did not like. Although they were cooked perfectly it just wasn't the flavor we like. I ordered the Cuban sandwich and my husband ordered a potato loaded and a side of brisket- bc they don't have the large potato it's all something you have to order separately per the waiter. We weren't overly impressed with either meal. A little on the dry side and too much Smokey flavor in the meat. We did like a couple sauce options which they keep on the tables. We went there for an early supper (dinner) Monday 2/9/26 with a couple of our family members. It's been good so far since this new location (Gonzales,LA) has opened but I don't know if they were having an off day or what. It wasn't the good Sonny's we've had before. I asked for slice pork and they brought me pulled pork. It seems like every time we go to this location they always mess this part up. We've been going to Sonny's at other locations for over 40+ years and this has never happened getting the right order on slice or pulled pork. It only happens at the Gonzales LA location. The fries and the baked beans were cold. I don't understand why y'all stopped serving garlic Texas toast. They brought out hard to chew slices of bread that you buy in a loaf from the grocery store that was stale. She said they don't have Texas toast anymore. You get 2 slices of bread (grocery store) or a bun. It was very disappointing!! I was given choices where would I like to eat for supper (dinner) and I chose Sonny's. We came right after they opened and the parking lot was already full. We really like the location on Florida Blvd and we're excited to see another location open up in Gonzales. Excellent food - everything we ordered was very good! We'd return here again whenever in the area again. Staff was friendly. Food was good not great. Ticket time on our to go order was over 45 minutes which is reason for the below average review. If it was just our order that took so long I would have chucked it up as a fluke, however multiple other patrons were complaining about super long wait times while we were there. There seemed to be plenty of staff to support the amount of customers. Not sure what the cause of the wait was. Might be a systemic problem in their process or mismanagement of personnel. This was my first visit to a Sonny's, I was expecting more of a fast casual. We were seated quickly, and our sever Cathy L. Was outstanding Food came out quick. This is now my new go-to in Gonzales. The meats are not overly smoked. The tots are just perfect. I can't wait to try one of the bowls. I do have one suggestion, I would think the grilled cheese is made to order. Visited Sonny's BBQ, Gonzales location, for the first time on Sunday afternoon. I had a hard time finding a parking spot and cars are routed one way through the parking lot, plus the flow of cars through the drive-through line as well. After my second go around, I found a parking spot. Once inside, there was a short wait (I was one of 2 customers waiting). The dining room was hopping with people in motion. I have been a patron of Sonny's BBQ since childhood in Baton Rouge. The idea of the opening of a Gonzales location was a welcomed addition to Ascension parish. I receive text messages regularly for Sonny's BBQ specials and new menu items. This locations layout is new and decorated with BBQ pictures and split wood on racks. The bar area is modest with 3 television screens for patrons to enjoy Sunday afternoon football viewing from the dining room or at the bar. Sonny's serves 6 beers on tap, bottled beer and cocktails too. My waitress was very attentive and knowledgeable. In fact, she shared that part of their training was to taste all menu items, which allows employees to direct patrons about menu items. I ordered the all-you-can-eat BBQ chicken (I chose white meat over dark meat chicken option) Sunday special ($16.99), which came with 2 sides (my choices: BBQ baked beans and a baked sweet potato with cinnamon honey butter) and garlic Texas toast. My BBQ baked beans had bits of meat and a thick sweet BBQ sauce. The baked sweet potato was delicious with the honey cinnamon butter. My meal came with 2 breast quarters and was cooked to perfection. Additional breast quarters or other sides were provided upon request quickly. I personally would have liked a bit more seasoning for flavor enhancing, but the natural smoked flavor from the pit dominated the chicken. Marry the smoky BBQ chicken with my choice of Sonny's Smokin' BBQ sauce was euphoric (other BBQ sauces: Original, Sweet, Sizzlin' and by request Carolina-yellow mustard base vs tomato based sauce). For a Florida based chain BBQ establishment, which has been in operation since 1968, one cannot go wrong with Sonny 's BBQ. I will be back for meaty St. Louis ribs on a return visit. If you are looking for good BBQ at a fair price, Sonny's BBQ the place to be. read more

I have been to Sonny's several times and it's been great. Unfortunately my visit on Friday 17th was not so great. We were all disappointed in the food. I ordered the 3 meat plate, and all of the food was cold and very dry. This was the case for most everyone in our party of SIX. We lived in BR for 32 years and ate Sonny's BBQ on Sherwood Forest as long as I can remember. My family loves Sonny's. When we moved to Prairieville a few years ago and we still ate there a bit but it wasn't convenient anymore, but still I would always call our huge order in for any special family get togethers and go pick it up. Needless to say we were so happy they opened in Gonzales. We made our first order last week since everyone was coming over. The was NOT the same at all. Ribs were dry and tough. Brisket was dry and although I have always loved the little black burnt edges, these pieces tasted "Burnt" not flavorful. The beans that were always my large families very favorite were "Nasty". They tasted like pork and beans out of a can then drenched in ketchup. No drippings or shavings from the meat was added at all. The bread was limp and lifeless. The only thing that resembled Sonny's BBQ flavor was the sauce that now came in a condiment packet and 3 packets were included for all this food. As Everyone lined up to fill their plates, noticing the beans looked different each person tasted a spoonful and quickly the 3 LARGE containers were thrown into the trash. There was No way to make them edible. I then tasted the bread and instantly the 2 containers of bread joined the beans in the trash. I described the meat. Not even half of all that meat was eaten and Not one piece was taken home for leftovers. When everyone left it went in the trash with the rest of the pathetic food from Sonny's BBQ in Gonzales. read more

Our waitress Evelyn was super sweet and gave professional service 10/10 Food was phenomenal, portion to price ratio is great and taste was off the charts and for how packed it was our food came out sooo quick, we were shocked! Ribs that were falling off the bone, brisket melting in your mouth and the onion rings on top of the tater tots were fried so crispy. Overall a great place and we definitely will be back! read more

I've ordered here a lot and by far one of the places I wouldn't recommend especially after last night. I went back and fourth about this post but since ordering here since August of 2024 to January 2025. I'll say this nice as possible get rid of the entire kitchen staff and the people who pack the orders. Everytime I've ordered here it has been an issue. Currently waiting for them to open so that I can call about my plate combo where I had to eat everything with out my ribs because they are so tough no meat and this has been an on going thing with atleast a few of my orders it's really frustrating spending money on food that you want but disappoints. read more

This is the worst places i have been in quite sometime . I went in to order a sandwich to go . No menu around so i had to ask . The young gal; at the counter took my order three times because she was playing on her phone . I finally placed my order a brisket sandwich combo . At 1 pm the place was quite slow and now can see why . I was told it would be a 15 -20 mins wait . For a sandwich . I waited and waited finally asked for the order and they said oh here it is . What is your name ? I looked and said it has been there all this time ? Oh i guess so . The response is here you go . I said where is my coke it was a combo . Oh. Ok . So i got my coke . I got in the car looked in the bag and i received a bun and meat . NO SAUCE . So i walked back in and said there was no sauce . She looked at me and gave me two PACKETS of Sauce . The sandwich at this point was cold and dry . The coleslaw was warm and dry . . My friends chicken was dry to the point of being fossilized . Corn bread was dry and lumpy . To boot when I arrived at the office the bottom of my coke cup blew out and went all over my pants shoes and ground . The service was terrible and it seemed no one cared . The food was as bad as i have had in quite some tome . I will assure you I will not be back . Plumb prothetic. As many places that is down HWY 44 & 30 this one stands to be the worst . Our family visited the recently opened Sonny's. Parking was not an issue. We were greeted as soon as we walked inside. Seated right away. Server went over the menu and made suggestions. The restaurant is new and was very clean. Sports playing on the TVs and background music. Food was served very quickly and was hot. I ordered the brisket grilled cheese. It was okay. Brisket lacked flavor and was overall bland. My husband has brisket and sausage plate. He said the brisket was moist but also lacked flavor. Sausage was okay. He was disappointed that potato salad was not an option for a side. One daughter had the cubano. She said it was okay but bland and pretty much flavorless. One daughter ordered the wings. She said they were good and tender. She also mentioned the ranch dressing was very tasty. We also ordered the pork egg rolls as an appetizer. Everyone said they were good. Food delivered and we spent the rest of our stay trying to catch his attention to get two glasses of water. Went to bar to be nicely told our waiter would be with us shortly.
