Still my #1 spot for lunch! Just wish it was closer to BR but worth the 30 minute drive and always a must to stop in when I'm seeing patients in the Gonzales area. I've tried the breakfast items and many of the lunch items and not once have I been disappointed. I told my husband today that we need to franchise a Starlite in BR, but it wouldn't be the same without the owner and chef, Richard! Always 5 stars for the ambiance and service too. Keep up the perfection, Starlite!

LOVE LOVE LOVE this cafe. It's my favorite go-to spot to grab delicious breakfast or lunch. I'm always treated the best here and feel super welcome. Not too mention the meals are always great. I don't think there's anything you get here that you won't be satisfied with. Oh and they always have delightful little desserts to try if you're in the mood. As well as tasty coffee flavors and concoctions that they create seasonally. Sugar free flavored coffee as well! (Not just SF vanilla, either) The ONLY thing I'd ask is that you all be open on Saturday so I can bring my husband who works during the week. :( Other than that, 5 stars!!

A hidden treasure, my wife says. Looks like a ladies tea room, and there are some light, healthy choices but there are also some hearty, less-than-healthy choices, too (stuffed French toast comes to mind). As the name suggests, there are a wide variety of coffee drinks, as well as a good selection of house-made desserts and pastries. I prefer the savory foods - and the breakfast options do not disappoint. The French country breakfast is good and hearty. The omelettes are nice and fluffy with plenty of cheese. The breakfast potatoes are cooked to a perfect golden, crispy brown. Lots of good lunch options, too. From soup and salad combos to sandwiches and good burgers. Something for everyone. The service is good and the decor is quaint (country cafe style) with "Starry Night" and a few other paintings all around.

Another super star here. Super fast on getting my meal which is a plus. Just from my first impression of the ppl and the food I'm a fan. Nothing was out of place and I see why people were there waiting on the doors to open. This is a local establishment with a solid staff. This is not a negative but the lights were flickering and it was a distraction. Stay tune...I will have a better assessment of them coming soon

So, I gave it a chance. We made reservations and were seated almost immediately, which was a great start. The restaurant was a little cold inside, the strawberry lemonade was delicious and the food overall was very good. The oysters were actually really good! I was especially excited that they let me try one I had never seen on a menu before, the BBQ oysters jalapeño. It was fun stepping outside of my usual order, I was glad I did. It was a rainy day, so we ended up getting pretty soaked coming in and leaving but that certainly wasn't the restaurant's fault. What really stood out was the service. Our waiter was incredibly accommodating, attentive and friendly, the entire waitstaff made us feel welcome. The restaurant was also clean, bathroom as well which I always appreciate. Overall, I had a great experience. I'm glad I gave Mike Anderson's a try. Great food, great service and I'd definitely come back.

The bathrooms are clean even if one of the doors doesn't latch well. We tried the chocolate Bavarian cream stuffed beignets and the regular beignets and the cafe au lait. The cafe au lait was just ok, I think we liked it better the cafe au lait mixed half and half with the French roast coffee for a stronger coffee flavor. The service was great. Very friendly and helpful and we don't wait too long to take our food with us. You can sit and eat in also but we were on our way through. Amazing Tour and Museum Experience…read more Houmas Plantation House is an amazing place to visit. We started our day early and had breakfast first. There's a simple American/New Orleans-style breakfast buffet with eggs, sausage, and grits, available from 8-10 a.m. The plantation opens at 9 a.m., and the first house tour starts at 9:30 a.m. The house tour lasts about an hour. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable. This was my second time taking the tour, and although the guides were different, they shared the same history in their own unique storytelling styles. Both were engaging and easy to follow. Don't forget to tip the tour guides--they do a great job. After the tour, we walked through the gardens in the morning. It's about a 45-minute stroll at a relaxed pace--walk, rest, and enjoy the scenery. Very peaceful. Later, we went to the Carriage House Restaurant, which has amazing food. The bar is also great--try the Houmas signature drinks, they're delicious. You can enjoy your drink inside or outside, then walk around more or relax. If one person wants to do everything--breakfast, museum and house tour, lunch at the Carriage House, and buy a few souvenirs--expect to spend around $150 or so. Overall, it was a great, peaceful experience, and I highly recommend it.

The guided tour does a strong job of bringing the property's past to life. Set among towering oak trees and Spanish moss, the plantation itself is visually stunning, and the home's preserved interiors give an authentic glimpse into 18th- and 19th-century Louisiana life. Rainy Day our knowledgeable and engaging tour guide, was mixing well-documented history with the plantation's well-known ghost stories in a way that feels balanced rather than over-the-top. That said, expectations matter. If you're hoping for a purely historical deep dive, some of the supernatural elements may feel a bit dramatized. On the flip side, if you're looking for a full-on haunted experience, it's more subtle than theatrical. Overall, The Myrtles Plantation tour is a worthwhile stop for anyone traveling through Louisiana. It offers a memorable mix of culture, history, and atmosphere--especially for those who appreciate a good story along with their sightseeing.
