The remodel is breathtaking, it really opened up the dining area and made more wheelchair friendly. We got the family feast for 4 and it did not disappoint. You are able to pick your sides and different versions of the meat offered. It was more than enough for all of us with plenty leftover. First let me say that the food is good and the selection of options is good. However, if you're expecting takeout orders to be ready on time, you'll be very disappointed. They do not have the staff or the volition to get your food out to you. Even when it is bagged up, they will leave in on the counter getting cold for long periods of time until prompted by you. Curbside is just not a realistic option now. Until they are willing to pay staff a living wage, they will continue to be understaffed. read more

A smile doesn't replace missing items after asking for them multiple times, and the meat is more fat than meat. The flavor reminds me of something my 10 year old would experiment with. We love Sonny's. It's the highlight of our trip to Florida. Unfortunately this restaurant was the worst we've ever eaten at. We came in at 4:15pm and it was not busy AT ALL! The salad bar was half empty and had not been kept clean. Had to ask for lettuce and spinach. The tuna salad had not been tossed and had the dried out look. The chocolate pudding was rancid and it had to be removed after we were the 2nd family to tell them. They did not refill anything else on the bar until we were leaving an hour later. Let me begin by saying how disappointing it was to have such an absolutely tiny serving of brisket - what a joke. A few tiny shavings of brisket. For $13.99? ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS. And don't get me started on the fried pickles appetizer - they were SOGGY, not crunchy, and were mushy and wrapped in some plastic - not even in a box! I've never seen such stinginess from a bbq restaurant, and I've never had GROSS fried pickles with a soggy texture in my life, until I tried Sonny's. VERY DISAPPOINTED and NOT GOOD AT ALL. Shanna took excellent care of me and everyone else working was so friendly and spoke to me when walking by. The table was very clean and the food was hot and delicious. The new remodel has made Sonnys a place I enjoy sitting inside to eat instead of taking my food to go like I used to. Everything about the new Sonnys concept is awesome! Went for lunch today, 1/31/20. Have not been since the remodel. Place is clean and atmosphere was great. Seated quickly, server was awesome. Ordered pulled pork and ribs. Was surprised at well everything tasted, great flavor. And the beer mugs were really good and cold. Will definitely be back. read more

I would strongly suggest people avoid this restaurant, especially if you order delivery, as don't be surprised when many of your items just never appear. In our case, it wasn't just 'a side' or so.. it was an entree, and virtually all sides. We simply wanted the meals we paid for, but instead of a promise to just make the missing items, the best we got was just an offer to do a partial refund, which doesn't work very well when you are missing so many items that you effectively have to order more food (from someone else apparently). Personally, I felt quite violated by this restaurant and their delivery partner (Grubhub) and would never choose them for my family or friends again. There are better options out there! read more

Call in order for pickup I arrive to the desk to a young lady at the desk with an extremely bad attitude. Her attitude is so bad that it met me at the door and if my order had been just for me and not my 85 year old father also I really would have turned and high tailed it out the door. She had zero customer service skills. She was rude to the customer in person and to those who called on the phone even the Grubhub driver was standing there in bewilderment which means she was probably rude to her for trying to pick up an order. My wife and I really haven't been fans of Sonny's since they have been in Mobile, AL. We decided to give them another try since the latest restaurant remodel. Wow! What a great layout and modern feel. We we're happily greeted when arriving and I can't express how good the wait staff performed. The food arrived quick and the manager checked in with us. When leaving we were told goodbye by everyone employed. I joked with my wife and said "they are almost to friendly". I would recommend trying Sonny's if you've been disappointed in the past. I scanned through the reviews, just because one near the top caught my attention. My family stops by this restaurant at this location every now and then and I am surprised at how negative some of the comments are. They are not many, but it just surprised me. Sonny's has always been a clean and efficient restaurant for us to dine in. Even during the height of Covid -ness when all of life was turned upside down, I felt that this restaurant went above and beyond to have a safe and inviting area to eat as well as great service and good food (my WW demands chicken, but I love it all). We live out of town so a trip to Mobile often means stopping somewhere to eat. The past two years in particular have been challenging to say the least. My husband and I have the opportunity to travel pretty much across the U.S. and have experienced dining out before, (fast food and otherwise) during and after the height of the pandemic. We very much understand the changes that were required, the extreme challenges that each faced in keeping all their staff together in front and behind the scenes due to the virus itself, and then the government-created shortages when a good idea became a destructive idea as far as those "checks" go, giving a twisted sense of income and creating a lack of motivation to go to work. And lastly not to forget the food and supply shortages being created as we speak as the chain becomes strained. So I wanted to stop and give a big KUDDOS to Sonny's on Schillenger for staying in the ring. My husband and I plan on eating there today, as a matter of fact. My one and only down comment is that the Sunday wait time around lunch is pretty long for us, but then that is not really a bad thing as it shows a hearty number of customers. Dinner to go was fast and also super fresh. We got the triple pork plate w ribs, pulled and sliced pork, beans, and sweet potato. All were tasty. The corn bread is delicious! Went here last night to get 3 to-go orders .. 2 Brisket big deal meals and 1 Sonny's Sampler ... The meat portions do NOT look remotely close to what it is on the drive thru menu sign ... Last time we did the dine-in , my wife told me they've skimped on the meat portions ... So basically this location is skimping on the meat portions of your meals ... I ordered the big deal brisket sandwich on garlic toast and my husband ordered all you can eat ribs. The meat was flavorful but the sandwich and side of fries were heat lamp warm- not hot and fresh by any means. My husbands ribs were plentiful and there was no problem with bringing more food (including sides). They were served 1/2 rack at a time. The first order was pretty good- juicy and just the right amount of smoke taste. The second order was over cooked dry and tasted like they had been marinated in liquid smoke. I had prepared burgers for my kids at home, but wanted something a bit more healthier for the hubby and myself. Which is why I didnt drive the 15 minutes back to the restaurant to return these scraps.. We both ordered the rib and smoked wings combo. When he made it home with my food, I was beyond disappointed. The ribs on my Togo plate looked like leftovers from someone else's dinner. I have never been so pissed about a Togo order. At a time when you are trying to continue to support local businesses and they serve you this garbage is unacceptable. Just a good ole family Bar-B-Que restaurant with a wide selection of sauces, a good salad bar and a good wait staff. The staff there seems to work as a team and it makes for a good experience. Had the sliced brisket plate with beans, coleslaw, and garlic bread, the brisket was so dry that after drowning it in bbq sauce it still chewed like cotton balls, I made it through 3 small pieces before giving up, the garlic toast had no taste what so ever. If I could give it zero stars I would. I ordered a take out order at 3:40 to be picked up at 4:30. I get there early and call them to let them know I was there and parked. She didn't ask me what spot I was in and just told me she would have it out shortly. 20 Minutes later, I still do not have my food and people that were in the drive thru were getting their food and leaving. People who went in and ordered take out were getting their food and leaving and my husband and I are still sitting there. 40 minutes! We waiting 40 minutes for our food. We get home and it is cold and not even what we ordered. I called the store to try and talk to someone and she tells me she's the one that fixed my order and she made sure it was correct. Well, it wasn't! When I told her that I would just like a refund because at this point its absolutely ridiculous she puts me on hold to talk to the manager. Someone finally comes backs and takes me off hold but doesn't speak to me, I can just hear them taking another take out order. When they get done, I hear them pick up the phone and then hang it up! This place is losing it. It went from very good to where it is now---marginal food and service. It is Sunday night and every nearby restaurant is jamming with waiting lists. Sonny's is the polar opposite---almost empty with only 4 tables occupied! I knew something was wrong and it is a shame because there is a cosy and rustic mountain lodge ambiance in the restaurant that few restaurants can match. This is where the good ends, though. Service is atrocious. There is no management. Only 4 tables of customers and all made to wait while 3 wait staff loiter and chit-chat. With the restaurant empty, I wait 10 minutes just to get a glass of tea. With so little business, the cook could devote himself to quality but instead I am served a plate that reminds me somebody's left overs. The food is not hot but Warm to cold. How can this be? It reminds me of food warmed in a microwave where some is cooked through and some not. I ordered "3 Kinds of Pork". The ribs are decent tasting but cold. The pork slices are slightly warm to cold. The Barb-b-Q itself looks disgusting; I don't even try it. If it looks like the Runs before eating, imagine what happens once it is in your gut. The meal is a huge disappointment. When the waiter asks, "how was it?" I say "adequate". He says, "glad you liked it." Ha! Imagine your Mom or your wife cooking you a grand meal and you told her it was "adequate". You would be thrown out of the house. "Adequate" is not good; nor is it a compliment UNLESS you are in the desert, starving and after 4 days, get this meal. You will live but it is no dining enjoyment. I don't see how this business location continues unless service and food make a huge turn around. The only decent tasting items I had were the cold-slaw and the unsweetened tea. 2 stars is a gift to the restaurant but I base them on the "mountain lodge ambiance", which is very nice. My family and I went to Sonny's on Tuesday 4/19/2011. Out of most of the BBQ spots in Mobile, AL I have to admit Sonny's has the better tastes for ribs. Their "All You Can Eat Ribs" Tuesdays is a great deal. The staff is very friendly too. I only dont like the fact that you have to pick sides and you can' t take what you don't eat home. Pretty much a waste of food. If I can have just the ribs and salad bar then I would be perfectly happy. The sides are actually a good size portion. I'm not normally one to complain about things since I've worked in the food industry and understand how it can be overwhelming, but who ever the tall girl working the drive thru Sunday night was needs an attitude adjustment. My boyfriend and I decided to stop here for dinner since it was quick and easy. I told her at the drive thru I needed a minute to figure out what we wanted. She had an attitude from the beginning but I let it go. So I started ordering our food, and she asked me what "side" I wanted. It was my misunderstanding I thought she said "size" so I replied medium (some fast food places do ask what size so I didn't think anything of it) until she replied back " SIDE SIDE S.I.D.E WHAT SIDE SIDE DO YOU WANT" . I am not stupid and I didn't need you to spell it out for me as you so rudely did. You simply could have just repeated yourself. From someone who worked a drive through, I know sometimes it's hard to understand what people on each end are saying. I do understand everyone had bad days, but please make sure your employees understand you can not talk to people any type of way you want to. If you are that miserable, find another job. I got the 1/4 chicken lunch special. The chicken was undone and fatty. I literally saw blood running out of it. I was with a big group for work and didn't want to seem like a drama queen, so I just left it on my plate and didn't make a big deal about it. I'm just praying I don't get sick later.
