Came here while I was on a business trip and down an avenue just full of big chain restaurants, Sonny's was the closest to a non-chain joint. They have a few Sonny's around, but still, it's not a place where the food all comes from pre-made mixes. For the price and quick service, this place is great. I had the babyback ribs and they were delicious. I had the regular ribs another time and they were "not" as tender as I'd wished for, but still pretty good. Forgo all the other fast food places or the chain restaurants and have a barbeque with the great intent of being authentic. It's a good bet you'll agree. read more

Ordered the trio pork and it was great. Came with bread, two sides which I chose coleslaw and beans. Good portion and more than I should have eaten. Service was slow but that is the case everywhere these days since nobody wants to work it seems. went here the other day with my husband and we stood at the host stand for 5 minutes while servers and bartenders were walking by looking directly at us or on their phones and we never got sat. we ended up leaving because no one would come to take care of us. food is good, but service is not. read more

I don't give many one star reviews because I can usually find something to up the ratings. Unfortunately that's not the case with this restaurant. I was on the west side of town and decided to get my weekly Sonny's BBQ fix. Upon entering I was led to a dirty table by the host. After realizing that the table had not been cleaned I stood next to it waiting to see if it would get bussed (the seats had sauce on them). A server came by and told me that I couldn't stand in the walkway. She continued walking past me as I asked for the table to be cleaned. After a few more minutes I decided to clean it myself. I went up front where 6 employees were standing talking and asked for a bar towel to clean the table. One who appeared to be in management asked why. I said because the table was dirty and they asked if I had made a mess. I said no the table wasn't properly bussed so they told a lady to get me a wet towel which I took and cleaned the table with. When the server arrived I ordered my pulled pork big deal with extra crispy fries, garlic bread and sweet tea. The food arrived in about 15 minutes. The fries were pale,greasy,cold and nowhere near gold or brown let alone crispy. The garlic bread was burnt and the pork was cold and dry. The sweet tea was in a filthy glass. After trying to flag my "server" for 10 minutes I just ate the sandwich because I was hungry. I decided to use the restroom before I left. BAD MISTAKE the floors were sticky in the places where it was dry. There was a standing puddle of urine in front of the urinal and I'm not sure what was on the walls. When I told a server about it I was told that there wasn't time to clean the bathroom and it wasn't their job. If you have to go to Sonny's, go to the one in Silver Springs. read more

Basic southern BBQ chain operation. Been to this location twice. The pulled pork and beef brisket are average, and are improved slightly with the very good "sizzlin'-sweet" sauce. Avoid the peach cobbler - mine wasn't cooked all the way and had chunks of powder dough mix. Nothing to write home about. It gets a 2.5, but I have to round down. This was a dinner pitstop for my friend and I whilst cruising on up to Atlanta from Florida. We didn't know this at first, but Sonny's is a chain and the locals don't really hype it up as THE BBQ joint to go to. Service was nice - our waitress was friendly. We definitely didn't seem to fit in with the baseball hat, flannel wearing, family-going crowd. The sweet tea is, as it would always be, LOADED with sugar, and as most chains will go, the food was just OK. I ordered the catfish dinner - the fish was good and came with a cornbread that was really more like corn poundcake. Salad bar was OK, with typical salad stuffs, bean salads, and weird jellos. I really loved the several options of BBQ on every table, especially the sweet BBQ. I wanted to dip everything into it. Though the sauce lives up to what a sauce should, I doubt I'd come here again. read more

This is one of the worst Sonny's BBQ that I have been to! The service was extremely Slow ( waitress name was Emily) she would walk by table and not even check on you and when you try to get her attention she would keep going! Very slow service to bring food and had to ask for Drink refills! The food was Just OK nothing to brag about, when it finally came to the table it was luke warm instead of being hot. We have been to a lot of Sonny's BBQ and this one needs improvement! read more

I am from CA and have eaten Bar-B-Q all over the southwest. I ordered the 3 Way Pork dinner with slaw, sweet potato and corn bread. My shredded pork and sliced pork were average with the special sweet sauce. However, my ribs were were both tough and dry. The sweet potato and slaw were both tasty. Of special note was an excellent textured and moist piece of cornbread. Our server was exceptionally friendly and as I was leaving, I caught her attention in the kitchen and asked her if she would take a photograph of my guest and I outside the front door. She was certainly rewarded for her extra effort. We left to head down to Tampa as she wished us Happy Holidays. (I still like Merry Christmas better) read more

"Black seems to be the primary color" says my 14 year old son. I noticed it too. I'm lukewarm on the ambiance of the new decor. Seems a little depressing. The front of the restaurant looks great with the wood with the black highlights but the inside seems more like a morgue. The waitress was very friendly although she took my drink when it was empty and didn't bring back a straw. But that's not enough to say it was a bad experience. There is definitely something different about the way the food was prepared since the renovation. Something is definitely different. read more

Clean, friendly, and delicious! Obviously, we recommend the barbecue. They do have a few options that aren't on the menu - particularly the lunch specials. You can ask your server about it. Quick to be seated. Very fast service as well as quick food delivery. I sat to where I was able to watch the kitchen window. Plenty of kitchen staff as well as servers. The food was plentiful and served hot. I watched as food left the kitchen. Good ticket times. For a 2 pm Saturday it was great service. The last few times we've been here it seems like the place isn't managed; just a bunch of kids standing around. I ordered a takeout for two with cornbread and sweet potatoes and specifically asked the waitress if she included cinnamon butter: she gave me two tiny servings. When I sat down at the bar, the waitress/bartender asked me what I'd like to drink, I said "water". She brought me a glass of water, and asked for my order, I wanted to add a side and a drink to my pulled pork sandwich -l asked for lemonade, she told me the glass of water was my soft drink, and would be charged as such. I couldn't believe it, but her co-worker confirmed it. Luckily, I hadn't drank any of the water and was able to exchange the water for lemonade. Am I nuts?! When did this become a "thing "??? On top of that, the pulled pork was fatty, I had to separate, with my fork, 1/3 fat before eating the sandwich. Ugh read more

I'm not sure what to say. I'll sound like I'm making it all up... but this really did all happen to two reasonable, older adults not at all given to complaining. Here goes: Ordered Red Neck Egg Rolls...didn't get them. Ordered corn bread: didn't get it. Ordered Baby Backs...did get them. But very dry! Good grief, way too dry. They'd obviously been sitting way too long altho WE got them fast. French fries not hot (almost room temp)....and very dry too. Also been sitting too long obviously. Cole slaw: good size and terrific. Service was poor. We had to hail servers to get corrections made. I served tables 4yrs at Penn State. And my wife owned a restsurant in Atlanta. SO WE KNOW THIS WAS EGREGIOUSLY UNACCEPTABLE. But we tipped 25%. They were inattentive kids...still...just trying to make a living. But Sonnys? Plenty of other places to go. Do so. Loved it! I'm a huge BBQ fan and have eaten at probably 15+ joints. I didn't expect much from this place since it's a chain but I give the moist brisket 5 stars. I just love Sonny's and have been to their restaurants all over the South. The food is reliably good, and I don't recall ever having a bad Sonny's experience. I've had better local BBQ (check out Pearl's in Micanopy or Newberry's Backyard) but you can go anywhere and know what to expect. read more
