It's great to see Sonny's provide a curbside pick up option with friendly staff who are attentive of vehicles arriving for their orders. Also great to see staff observing the covid19 protocol. Visiting the Palm Bay area, we were in search of some local cuisine, which is surprisingly hard to find considering the number of chain/franchised restaurants. Sonny's seemed like a local brand and we decided to try it. Sadly the food was just okay. Being a huge BBQ fan I'm always excited for a good brisket. At Sonny's the portion size was fine, but the meat didn't hold the smoky flavor. And the charred top, perhaps the best part of a brisket was MIA. The sauce another key ingredient was about as good as a store brand. Overall a mediocre experience. read more

I will preface this review with the fact that I have lived in Kansas City and Austin, BBQ mecca's. I consider my weight class to be "BBQ". So I am hesitant to eat BBQ anywhere else. Should have listened to my own skepticism. The best thing we had was the bread. Great news for a bakery, awful start for a BBQ joint. Fried pickles were a soggy mess with almost no breading. I had brisket on my sandwich...50/50 meat and fat definitely not my thing. Pulled pork was mushy and flavorless. Sausage was actually good (1 star for bread and 1 star for sausage). Corn nuggets were spot on. Mac and cheese was meh. Tasted like it was from a box. Asked for 3 sauces, only got one. It was meh. Highly recommend Cryderman's BBQ in downtown Melbourne. read more

Today I stopped by Sonnys in Palm Bay. I was promptly seated and my drink order taken and receives promptly. I got a pulled pork plate with mac n cheese, potato salad, and garlic toast. The pulled pork here is very good, not the best around but still very good. The mac n cheese is tasty as is the potato salad. The staff is always very friendly and I always enjoy my visits here. The meat is still the same decent but not not a strong southern BBQ Tonight we went in looking for a salad bar and Brunswick stew and were sadly disappointed. My family and I decided to head over to Sonnys for lunch yesterday. We asked for a booth, the waitress said she needed to go find one for us because only tables were ready, however - several booths were empty. It was sort of weird because at least a dozen booths were empty. Finally, the waitress came back to us and seated us. We waited quite a while for a menu and our drinks. Finally the waitress took our orders. It didn't take the food long to get to the table, but our waitress only checked on us once. They were not busy and we could see other waitresses doing their jobs. The food was pretty good except my pulled chicken had a large piece of gristle in it, but - hey - that happens sometimes when your eating meat. Still, not that pleasant to bite into. I liked the Sizzling Sweet sauce on my pulled chicken and the garlic toast was really good. I also ordered coleslaw which was also good. The kids drinks were empty a couple times and they waited for the waitress to come for a refill. We had to flag down another waitress for our bill. So basically, food was good - our waitress wasn't, which is sad because service is just as important as the taste of the food when you go to a restaurant to be waited on. Also, FYI - the waitresses do not always deliver a lunch menu, you have to specifically ask for it. Lunch menus offer a much better value then their dinner menus... So, if you decide to eat here - ask for a lunch menu. read more

They remodeled under a yr ago, looks good. I love their smoked chicken, ribs, garlic bread, green beans, corn nuggets, & sweet potato with cinnamon butter. If eating in you can ask for your drink in a to go cup. They also have a drive thru. Pretty good for a franchise. read more

We like real ribs smoked low and slow untouched by steam. (no fall off the bone flavor washed out ribs for us). This place was excellent. The best ribs in Florida so far. We are from St Louis and are used to good barbeque and have been trying one place after another. Our search is over. The ribs are really good. Smoked a long time. Not fatty. Just really good. We had green beans (cooked fresh. Not from a can or frozen), sweet potato and cole slaw. All were large portions and perfect. The cornbread is like a delicious dessert cupcake after your meal. For us rib lovers we never need to eat ribs anywhere else in Florida. Oh and the service was spot on. Strongly encourage you to try this place if you love good ribs! read more

in trying to be supportive during these times i have been ordering take from restaurants...so i just picked up my order today i brought the family for four dinner not the one on sale. the portions were so small if barely fed us my eight year old daughters were still hungry the chicken was dry the pull pork was barely a handful the ribs were no bigger than my finger it was sad such small portions the palmers sweet beverage was nothing but ice water. sad to say after spending 60 dollars i will NOT be back but the food was good but not the chicken and not worth over $ Updated so I sent the email as requested by the company and as of yet no one has reached out to inquire about this incident just so sad you try to do the right thing and support the community business but they don't care how limited your money is during these trying times as you try to help the way I was thinking about the situation we are all in is that some have more than other's so any little bit can help but no more with this restaurant even when it's all over cause you seem not to care as much as I do read more

Your typical BBQ restaurant. On par. I used to frequent Sonny's with the fam when I was younger. I have always stuck with the turkey sandwich, but pro tip: get it on garlic bread. The sweet BBQ sauce is my favorite to put on it. Service was only a slight bit slow, but overall good. I haven't been to this particular Sonny's in a few years, and it seems they've renovated recently. A much nicer, cleaner look. There's not much more to say. I give Sonny's a solid 3 stars. read more

We ordered from Door Dash... usually amazing as usual, but this time I ordered sliced pork and every piece was 3/4 fat...gross....

This place was horrible! Food was barely warm and sweet potato was burnt to a crisp. Called the manager Deeanna over and she didn't do much of anything. Food was sent back and came out again. Surprise still couldn't get it warm. I just stuck with salad cause that was the same temp as pulled pork. Couldn't get the manager to do anything for us. Got $5.00 off bill and that was it. "SPRITE SPRITE SPRITE" -Angry Server at sonny's- circa 1932 (colorized) A tiny man got very angry at a group of God loving, christian tennis players because he could not remember 2 drink orders. This prompted him to yell across the restaurant "SPRITE SPRITE SPRITE!" At us. We, as humble tennis players, were utterly shocked and mortified. Lastly, he not only charged me for a side he said was included, but he let out the F word in front of the whole team. As a former diner employee, I understand that restaurants get busy, but it was nowhere near as busy as my restaurant gets and he has no excuse acting this way in front of my loving team. First of all let me start off by saying we have avoided this place for 4 years. Their food turned to crap. Ribs with no meat on them, mainly skin. Pork that was way fatty. Served a sandwich with STALE bun. I actually got sick after eating there. We have not been back since 2015.We decided to try it and see if any improvement recently. VERY good food, good service. We have now been there 4 times in the last month and are very happy with food and service. I generally either get salad bar or sliced pork meal. Both were great. My spouse likes the ribs. Tonight we ordered curbside & honestly, we were EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED! When we were arrived, we gave to curbside girl our name & she came back to tell us that our order wasn't ready. When she came back out, she brought out a brown bag with only sweet sauces (we didn't ask for sweet sauce), our 2 teas, & a black plastic bag with 4 boxes. We left and got down the road, I questioned the 4 boxes. We should have at least 5. 2 sandwiches, 2 salads, 1 redneck egg roll. When I checked the boxes there was a sliced pork sandwich with cheese (we didn't order), redneck egg rolls, 2 salads with corn (we didn't order). We turned around & came back. I approached the hostesses first and they were extremely rude & not helpful. Then I went over to the pick up area that they told me to go too. I told the girl at the counter our order was incorrect & she was quick to tell me how it's not her fault she isn't the one who bags the orders. Then she questioned me, as if I didn't know what I had ordered. She opened every box, picked through it bare handed & told me the salads were correct (they weren't). She said that she would have everything remade. When we got home with the new food, my pulled pork sandwich had they worlds sorriest garlic bread with holes all in it and one sliced looked as if it have attempted to be cut before. Same thing with the smoking gun sandwich, and all the meat in it was mostly just fat. It wasn't even edible. read more

My wife and I were skeptical about trying this place out. We were heading to another BBQ place and saw Sonny's. I'm glad we did! Ordered everything to go. We got the Family Feast (Chicken, Ribs, sliced Brisket & Shredded BBQ) with coal slaw, potato salad and added fried okra. Had a few questions about the menu, the bar server and manager were very patient and friendly (didn't get their names). Everything was excellent, and I mean everything! If I could give this place zero stars, I would. My husband and I stopped in here one late afternoon (4:45 or so) and there weren't many people eating due to the weird time. We hadn't eaten all day and were ready to get our grub on. We were seated fairly quickly in a booth and given menus...sticky menus. Gross. There were TONS of flies that kept landing on our table/us...really annoying, but whatever. We were HONGRAY! We decided on beef brisket and were so excited to order but....20 minutes later, no one had even come around to introduce themselves, let alone take our drink orders. So my husband got up and asked the hostess if we'd been forgotten and she snidely said we should hold our horses. We did not. We left....and will probably never return. I understand sometimes in a restaurant things happen that you have to wait. That's fine. But to completely ignore us and then act as if we're the rude ones when all we want to do is buy their food? We went for curbside pickup for 5:30 pm on December 31 and saw four other cars. We waited 30 minutes past when our order should've been ready and brought out before I went in out of frustration. The employee attending the carryouts and curbside pickup (Michaela I believe) did not even have that many customers, and lo and behold, our food was just sitting on the counter ready. The car beside us in curbside also went in afterwards and complained that he'd also been waiting 20 minutes in his car, and his food was just waiting on the counter. When I asked her why it hadn't been brought out, Michaela wasn't even apologetic and said something along the lines of "oh you're good." Absolutely horrible service from her. I have no idea why she didn't take it out. It's a shame because when I got to the car and opened the order, the food was cold, meaning that the kitchen crew did a great job getting it done, but she just let it sit there. Of course, when we got home, the whole meal wasn't nearly as enjoyable as it'd been on prior visits and takeouts because the bread was cold and soggy as were many of the other sides and much of the ice in the drinks melted. For a decent meal at an affordable price, this is the place to go. You can expect nice sized proportions, unlimited drink refills and a very casual atmosphere. The tables are like wooden picnic tables and the seats are literally benches. The servers are personable and friendly. Sometimes it's nice to dine out without any pretense or formality. Here, you can literally eat with your hands (ribs, chicken and burgers) and get sauce all over your face without feeling embarrassed. They also have a salad bar that appeared to be rather comprehensive in its offering. Moreover, they serve beer and I was tempted to order a tall cold one, but it was only noon and I hadn't decided if I was going to go into the office later or not and it wouldn't have been all that professional to drink before hand. I ordered the Super Combo because this was going to be my only 'meal' for the day. It was awesome and came with everything including ribs, chicken, sliced pork and brisket along with beans, slaw and bread. There are a choice of BBQ sauces at the table ranging from very hot to sweet. The entire meal was very well prepared and full of flavor. It's not the absolute best BBQ in the south, I admit, as I am a southern boy. However, it's most definitely not bad. If you're looking for a good BBQ meal for the family, this is the place. My meal only cost $13 and change. (I ordered off the dinner menu). They have lunchs for around $8 or $9. Our server offered to give us a full to-go cup for our ice teas which I thought was very generous. This place is frequented by many 'locals' because the servers seemed to know some of the other patrons. I like knowing that I'm eating at a place that's also good enough for 'the locals'. Chain Restaurant. I picked up some ribs and three sides for take-out. The ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender and had just the right amount of BBQ sauce on them. The coleslaw and macaroni & cheese were generic but the green beans were rather tasty. We ordered the all you can eat chicken and the all you can eat pork the price was fair and on this occasion the food was actually warm and the waitress was attentive; where previously I have been disappointed, on this occasion they were up to par. EDIT: As an update to the story below, I was contacted by management, the issue was discussed and an appeasement was made. Still not happy about my experience, but I have faith management will make corrections. I really love eating at Sonny's and have been to this one a few times already. However, I think the employee atmosphere is a little too relaxed at this location. I've noticed this the last few times I ate here, but there was no issue until this last time. I arrived 1 hr prior to closing. Still a good bit of folks being waited on, but by no means busy. Was seated promptly, then nothing for 15 minutes. Just a cursory glance from another waitress who was taking care of the man seated right after me. I could see the other waitresses carrying on, not one of them bothering to get the waitress who's section I was in. So I just walked out. I've got better things to do with my time than wait on a waitress. How's that for an oxymoron. BL: Manager needs to be on the floor occasionally observing employees conduct and correcting when necessary. Especially when it's close to closing. read more

My family and I have been coming to this Sonny's BBQ since it opened and we've never had a bad experience. The service is 97% of the time spot-on, with fast, friendly servers, who even if they are busy, still take the time to cater to the customers. The food is always consistent. One our last visit, I tried the Redneck Eggrolls on the recommendation of my husband and although I was a bit hesitant at first, damn they were good! Whoever came up with that idea muct have seriously had the munchies, because on paper, it sounds like ti could be sort of nasty, but they really are delicious (and I'm sure a great way to use excess food and not have it go to waste!) The sliced pork is always a solid choice, as are their Baby back ribs, and St. Louis style ribs. Meaty and fall off the bone. Their cole slaw is the only slaw I will eat, anywhere. Their garlic bread is standard issue, but they make great corn bread. Try the corn nuggets too...they are a tasty treat! The feast for 4 is a great deal for a family (we always have leftovers) and their take out service is always fast and friendly, too... Now I'm in the mood for Sonnys! read more

I really used to like this location however since they have done the remodel it's pitiful. As soon as we walk in we are told "we have no pulled pork, no baby back ribs, no sweet ribs, no corn on the cob. It was only 8pm on a Saturday night. How could a place that specializes in meats be out of various staple entrees? Then we order beef brisket and asked for all u can eat. Then we are told they don't have enough for all u can eat. Then when our plates came we were not given silverware so had to wait 15+ mins to get silverware and by then food was getting pretty cold. I'm just disappointed that this place has gone way downhill. But the deco is ok looking. I guess that's all they care about now. I like the outside deco but the inside not so much, I like the inside deco that was there previously. Wasn't of money on the inside. I will not be returning here after 20 years of loyal visits. read more
