Most of the patrons inside were white, and our waitress was an older white woman. From the moment we walked in, there was visible irritation about our party size. When my uncle picked up a chair so we could sit together, we were met with looks and attitude instead of any help. The overall vibe was cold and dismissive, and it made us feel unwelcome and judged. As a Mexican family in a room where nearly everyone else was white, the way we were treated felt targeted and uncomfortable. Whether intentional or not, the service came across as biased and unwelcoming. It's just really unfortunate, because this is a place we've supported for years. We left feeling embarrassed and upset, and that's not the experience you expect from a place in hospitality.

Directly behind the bar you can see where the process happens from milling, mashing, fermenting, distilling, and bottling. Spirit Works hand crafts Gin, Vodka, Sloe Gin and Whiskey all on site.  They offer a flight tasting or two tastes with a cocktail option. If you go for the cocktail option, please note CA law only always allows a distillery to serve 1.5oz of alcohol per person so there are no other tastes or cocktails available. Someone in my group was excited about the Sloe Gin but wasn't able to try it after ordering the two tastes and cocktail. Just means they have to come back for a visit again the future. The cost is a little over $20 for the two tastes with a cocktail. I had the Vital Springs cocktail with Vodka, basil, mint, lime, ginger and Thai spiced bitters. The cocktail was really good and refreshing.  They also have cocktail kits available and for purchase that includes the alcohol, simple syrup, bitters and mixers.  This is a great spot in The Barlow!

For 2 people it came to about $50. **Don't forget to check in on Yelp when you arrive to save 50%! I knew of this offer and I forgot so we paid full price.** The bartender was fun, and the drinks were tasty. Definitely try the Sloe Gin! So unique and flavorful, it was the best drink I had all day. I bought a 2 for 1 tour and tasting on groupon, and took my dad as a fathers day gift since I'd be missing it with him in person. We had a very entertaining, informative, and delicious smelling tour, and then we went to the tasting room to get our hands on the goods. OH MAN is their stuff GOOD. We started with the Rye and moved onto the good stuff. I fell head over heels with the #2, and then we found the Cask Strength #2 and the love I felt was even stronger. As if it couldn't get better, there was a Truffle one that blew our minds. I was so impressed with the education on how to drink Whiskey and Bourbon, and left feeling amazing that this product came from my hometown! If I lived in the continental US, I would totally join the barrel club because this stuff is amazing. The owner was there when we did the tour and he was super cool. The Distillery is growing so fast with the desire for their product that they have moved on from the size they have to a specially designed for the new place they're moving to later this year. Well if that sparks an interest, check out Hanson of Sonoma Distillery in Sonoma, CA, on Highway 12. They make organic vodka infused with real fruit. It's award winning. $25 tastings six vodka flights. $75 tasting with a tour of the distillery. They have other assorted tasting flights $35 plus and cocktails $15. Some of the vodka infused flavors are habanero, mandarin orange, meyer lemon and cucumber. They also have infused gin and whiskey. They have small bites as well. The tasting room has great all around vibes. Friendly, down to earth staff. Right when I stepped in, I noticed the design aesthetics. I liked the full bar look with the stacked shelves and the lounge area. Beautiful, modern tasting room. The building outdoor grounds has a pond and seating area. However when I visited, the entire pond water surface was covered with algae. But I'm sure they'll work to clean that up making it picture perfect; the outdoor garden and landscaping is quite beautiful. Selfie opp.
