Coach Alek and the Portuguese Fútbol Academy have been an incredible influence on both of my…read morechildren's love for soccer. They each started at just 2 years old, and Coach Alek's patience and tailored program allowed them to learn at their own pace while having fun. Four years later, we haven't missed a single session! My son just made the Marin FC U8 team but still loves coming to the weekend classes, and my 3-year-old daughter is already finding her stride. We've tried every youth soccer program in the North Bay for kids under 5, and this is hands-down the best. What sets Portuguese Fútbol Academy apart is the perfect balance of fun, engaging activities for young children combined with focused drills that build real soccer fundamentals they'll use for years to come. The environment is supportive, joyful, and developmental all at once. As parents, enrolling our kids here has been one of the best decisions we've ever made. If you're looking for a soccer program that will give your child confidence, skills, and a true love of the game, I cannot recommend Portuguese Fútbol Academy enough!

My kindergarten son (6yo) has been taking Coach Alek's soccer class at Strawberry Rec twice a week…read morethe whole school year. Alek's is amazing at making learning soccer and developing actual skills in the sport. His magic is he really works on getting to know the kids as a group and individually. You can tell he really enjoys spending time with them, learning what works best for each of the kids. He is a master at relationship building and class management. The kids have fun, but respect him too. They kids really love him and love going to soccer, and they actually get quality soccer instruction too. Highly recommend his programs. He coaches from toddlers to elementary rec to competitive traveling teams. I'm super impressed with Coach Alek's ability for kids of all levels and ages to have fun and get really solid technical foundation in soccer!

Unfortunately this is the only place to play indoor soccer. My husband has been coaching my…read moredaughters team for a couple years now. The refs are awful. They literally don't know the rules of soccer. For example in my daughters game today, the goal keeper on the other team grabbed the ball outside of the box and the ref didn't call it. He said "I need to look into that rule'. So that cost us a direct kick. Then with one minute in the game and put girls about to score, the goal keeper "got hurt" and they ran the clock down to win the game. This is only my examples for today. Two games ago, the ref was an old man. He called nothing. The other team had a giant girl on it repeatedly blatantly fouled our girls and refused to call anything because he was either lazy or blind. Some refs let girls wear earrings, watches, necklaces, bracelets etc and say nothing. And others will say something if a girl has a hair tie on their wrist. Nothing is consistant. I have let it go for years but finally got fed up today with having a ref straight up say he doesn't know the rules and blow any chance we had a thing or winning the game.

Overall, this is a great place for soccer lovers to come, watch some games, or even play with…read morefriends. With that said, the facility and staff themselves could definitely use a lot of upgrades / better training. As mentioned in other reviews, the temperature is not regulated, so on hot summer days it's unbearably hot, and on cold winter days it's freezing. That's not a huge deal to someone like me who just comes to watch, but for the players it's hard for them to focus on the games! There are also ALWAYS instances with games getting too heated, opponents fighting and shouting outside of the games, but yet security has never really done anything about it. In fact, their involvement is honestly very erratic, it's confusing. Like one time there was a kid (minor) who was being pretty aggressive during the games and got escorted out the building by 2 security personnel when the game was over. Totally understand the kid being too aggressive but the game was over and he was literally walking out anyways? Plus, I've seen many many grown adult men acting way more aggressive and actually assault others on the field but were never given the same treatment. Another time, these 2 teams who had been arguing and playing extra aggressively since inside the game, left the field and started arguing outside by the bleachers, with both of their teams and their friends/families face to face in a shouting match that was 1 punch away from an all out brawl... yet they were able to just go at it for a while with no security involvement. When I went to go find security, they were literally all (like 3 of them) standing by the Admin desks watching this whole thing go down right in front of their eyes, with no intention of breaking it up whatsoever. Like were they just going to wait for it to be physical and then jump in when it's too late? Either way it caused a huge disturbance to everyone else for quite a while and there was definitely a concern for safety. As a family friendly facility with kids around, they should've done more to make sure fights like that done happen on or off the fields, or at least break it up if it does! Don't even get me started on the refs (some, not all) who are not that helpful at all! They're honestly pretty biased from what I can see, as in they make up their minds on which team they like more before/during the game and makes biased calls. Not only that, if there are any altercations or signs of it, they could care less to intervene. With all this said, my favorite part of these games (only reason why this review is not 1 star) is getting a drink at the bar and chatting with Alicia, the sweetest bartender!! She is always super nice, personable, and remembers what I like to drink! Chatting with her while waiting for my drink is always so fun and she makes me feel like we're old friends catching up. She goes the extra mile each time to make my drink specialized and also delicious, even if it's just coming from a can! Alicia goes above and beyond by bringing HER OWN Tajin and salt to rim the cups, adds on some limes to the top, and makes me feel like I'm enjoying a freshly made margarita each time.
