Please ignore these ridiculous 1-star reviews, If you need your ass kissed by the front desk, this may not be for you, but if you love cleanliness, easy booking, and consistency, this is your place. Stay anywhere near the Sonoma plaza, and you'll see that this Hotel has EXCELLENT VALUE and CHARM. It can be scorching hot in Sonoma; this place has the best air conditioning, Ice cold; my partner never wanted to leave, lol. A group of us stayed for a wedding party, and everything worked fantastically. However, several of us stayed in different hotels around Sonoma and viewed each other's rooms. Most of the other 4-5 star hotels around the square had grime around the sinks, the air conditioners were sub-par, and it didn't smell as clean as Sonoma Hotel. Some of the wedding party checked out and came over to the Sonoma Hotel!! The one great perk of staying here; the sheets are immaculate and smell clean but not too perfumy. The bathrooms are spotless; the towels are fresh. We always notice someone is cleaning the hotel. It does have carpet, and they are always cleaning it, but bring your flip-flops if you don't like carpet. Complimentary bottled water is always available near the front desk at all hours of the night. Internet worked great, and it's free. We also love it's close to everything, book ahead. I'm was reluctant to write this review because it's my secret getaway

If you want to immerse yourself in the town of Sonoma, totally disconnect from technology, and have a modest dosage of last century living, Sonoma Hotel is a great lodging choice for you and family. The hotel is conveniently located in the town center and has easy access to fine dining and boutique shopping areas. The hotel has so many delightful architectural and decorative details that magically transform each person stepping into this space to an era prior to internet, or smart phones. From the wash basin in the room, decorative objects in the hallways, to the wooden windows facing the town streets, all of which invites guests to explore and to experience. Since we visited during the holidays, the decorated Christmas tree, garlands, and the fireplace added so much charm to the place. Our teen daughter enjoyed the stay, particularly with the twin sofa bed in the cozy loft. It afforded her privacy and quietness to read a book or look out of the window people watching, just to share several details of the stay. There is street parking for the overnight guests. Each room has a set of keys to access vs. a swipe in front of a card reader. Guests must make sure to drop off their room keys in the front desk when checking out. The wi-fi passcode provided did not work during our stay. It didn't bother us since we planned to totally disconnect.

    Looking stylish of course

You are welcomed with a small bottle of their local wine (Banshee Pinot Noir) and a personal note to kick off your stay. We appreciate the little details that make our stay enjoyable and special. If you score a ground floor room, the bathroom has heated floors. The water pressure, to note, is excellent. We also really enjoy the wood-burning fireplace for the ambiance and for the cold winter nights. FYI - for the dog owners, there is no dog relief area on property. We went around the holidays and had a wonderful time with the festive events and activities offered. We thoroughly enjoyed the s'mores + hot toddy night and the hand-painted ornament workshop. We may need to return again during the holidays. You are never more than 100 yards maybe from the pool, I had a view of it from my room. That pool (heated) and the gym are great, clean, not too many people (at least on weekdays in February), plenty of equipment. Plus of course there's the hot tub. I measured the length of the pool in Google satellite view and it's about 20 yards so you can get some decent laps in. There are seating areas in and near the lobby; my team had a spot to play board games in the hallway one night. We had a meeting room right off the bar for a small 3-day conference. We had some natural light coming through frosted windows but no direct. There was another room in a separate building with natural light that looked really great, but ours was fine too. All the drinks and food we got were great, as well as the coffee shop!

On top of that, I had a very noisy neighbor with a baby crying throughout the night, which made for a less-than-ideal stay. I was understandably disappointed and shared my concerns with Lynn at the front desk. Lynn was incredibly kind, listened with genuine empathy, and made sure to communicate everything to her manager, Kendall. When I spoke with Kendall the following day, she was already aware of the situation, showed sincere concern, and took immediate action to make things right. That level of attentiveness and care truly stood out. Sometimes things don't go as planned, and issues arise; that's inevitable in hospitality. What matters most is how those situations are handled. Lynn and Kendall exemplify what great customer service should look like: professionalism, compassion and accountability. I will certainly be back on my next visit to enjoy this beautiful property and the outstanding service they provide. Keep shining and continuing to deliver a world-class guest experience.

The staff immediately made us feel at home, and the space even brought to mind Duarte's Tavern in Pescadero, just on a more intimate scale. Once our table was ready in the dining room, we were seated promptly. Our server, Amy, was wonderful--friendly, attentive, and well-paced throughout the evening. I ordered the salmon, which was perfectly cooked and full of flavor. My date chose the cappellini pomodoro; while it was fine, it didn't quite stand out compared to the rest of the experience. Overall, the quality of service and atmosphere made a strong impression. I can easily see us returning--either to enjoy dinner again or to grab a seat at the bar. Next time, I'd love to try the patio. Definitely make reservations, as this place fills up quickly.

The patio where we sat was awesome. Our waiter was a great guy, cannot remember his first name, ugh, but really friendly, knowledgeable, great waiter. I can remember we talked about the E Coast and his tattoos. I always try to strike conversation with people at the venue, especially those that serve tables. One thing, my heart and props go to anyone that can serve the public and do it with a smile. In this day and age everyone is so demanding, and its nice to always..always thank and acknowledge those that make your experience the best. So fist to the chefs/ cooks that made our food...great job, second to our waiter and the management staff that came over to our table, thank you!~ I will say I ordered a Reuben, I was somewhat hesitant only because the last 3 Reubens I have had at other restaurants in the SF Bay area have been horrific. So the waiter told me, you will really like this Reuben and he was totally 150% spot on. It was cooked and plated to perfection. The bread was perfect, not soggy and there was perfect amount of dressing and perfect amount of kraut and Swiss and I cannot say enough about it. My friends had the hamburger and the chicken salad, both saying that it was excellent. So if you happen to cruise on over to Sonoma or Sonoma County, make sure you visit this gem right in the heart of the old downtown/ village area.

How about when you first drive up the winding drive, and glimpse the first take of the stunning main building. I arrived at night, so all the ambience from the lighting, the moon, the glimmer off the fountain in the middle of the courtyard. Immediately was struck. Then I walked in to check in at the front desk - and I couldn't have been more welcoming. I had just made the marathon drive from Pasadena, CA, and was just tired, hungry and looking to get to the room and get to dinner. But the warm faces and kind words instantly washed the road away from me (and to be honest, the perfectly chilled glass of local champagne certainly helped that too!). They ensured everything was right with the room and with the stay and so I headed out to pick up the puppy from the car and settle up to the room. And then... there is the story of the puppy. Out of all the hotels and resorts I've stayed in - nothing NOTHING compares to the dog friendly (while still wholly human centric) service at this Fairmont. They made me feel like Chance was as much a guest there as I was. And all that isn't even to mention the concierge, the perfect cocktails from the bartender, the beautiful winding paths that guide you through the campus, the world class spa and massages (note - make SURE you check out the quiet room, nothing like it I've ever seen), the OUTSTANDING breakfast under the trees next to the pool... I just don't have time to list it all here. But the cherry on top - really is the people. They just... they are the magic that infuses everything in the building, everything in the resort, everything in the spa. They were there for me at every turn and at every moment, for every need. This couldn't possibly have been better - and I honestly can't wait to return.

Our AC was blowing 98 degree air so when we walked into our room upon check in, it was scorching hot. Took forever for someone to answer the phone. Maintenance man arrived within maybe 20-30 minutes. He had the portable unit with him (this is clearly a recurring issue). Supposedly there were no rooms available so our only option was to forfeit our window and ability to open and close our curtains and have this installed. It was loud. And the tubing was taped. The tape popped off on both ends day 2 and was again blowing hot air into our room. Maintenance came back. Added tape. It really killed the relaxing vibe of this place to have a noisy AC unit and multiple visits from maintenance. You can't really enjoy amenities when you're waiting for someone to arrive each day you're there. On the flip side, everyone who helped us was delightful. We interacted with quite a few staff members and everyone was delightful. So if you have to forego privacy, it's nice to have kind people in your room. In total, maintenance came to our room 3 times. Once at check in and twice day 2. We had to ask but we were given a small discount to accomodate the AC unit. It felt a little odd having to ask for a new room, being told no, and then having to ask ourselves if we could have a spa credit or something for the trouble to again be told no but we would be given a small discount on the room at check out. The restaurant was nice, and the grounds themselves are lovely. The bed was comfortable and the spa tub was nice. The room itself felt clean and cozy despite a few broken items. I wanted to love this place simply because it really is a beautiful place but I really feel conflicted on if I'd ever go back. The noisy unit, half my curtains being unable to open/close, warm room was hard to overlook at the end of May.
