This place can best be described as a general store, I think, parts gift shop, wine bar, café, art gallery and gelato stand. It's way off the beaten path - about a half mile east of the Sonoma town square. I had a pulled pork sandwich with cole slaw and a pistachio and caramel gelato. I also got to taste a pastrami sandwich and the potato salad. All of the food was great. As a bonus, bottled beer is just $2 - Midwestern prices right here in wine country! Woohoo!! Due to their neighborhood location, parking is easy, but be careful about taking your beer too far away from the building. I had to move to a closer section of the patio due to some kind of town ordinance. I get it, though, Sonoma is still a pretty quaint little town and they want to keep it that way. Do be sure and stop by Sonoma's Best if you're in town and have an extra half hour or so. read more

A great new market full of homemade sandwiches, soups, gourmet salads, cheese, and whatnot, far enough from the Sonoma Square that parking is never a problem. Perfect if you're in the area and need a quick picnic run to go, or a refined quiet munching experience without all the bustle and hoopla. There are several very pretty seating areas inside and out, shaded by trees and surrounded by flower bushes, and the mood is charming, clean, and peaceful. It's so quiet, you hear the birds, water, wind rustling. The owners have run a pretty little cabin compound here for the last ten years, and they've run the market on and off. A couple times now a car has blown through the 8th street tee junction and gone right through the store, so taking no chances, they've installed some concrete filled poles with horse head hitches on top... hopefully that will hold. read more

Wow, I feel like such a party pooper. We came in (group of four dudes) on a Saturday for lunch. I ordered a sandwich and took it out back. The patio area is pretty nice. The sandwich, however, was just "meh." It was a chicken sandwich. And sure, the sandwich up at Dry Creek General Store (the most analogous place I can think of) will cost you three dollars more, but it'll be larger and better made. And it won't take 20 minutes to come out. My other friend ordered a half-rack of ribs from the deli. AFTER paying, and when he was with three other people who had ordered meals "for here," the deli worker tells him that they're cold, are vacuum-sealed, and are not available "for here." Consequently, I have them in my freezer at home because my out-of-town friend couldn't eat them. Overall, it's fine. If you're hungry, go for it. But if you can wait, find someplace else. read more

Sonoma's Best sounds like wild overstatement. It is at the crossroads, and a location that has been ill-fated for businesses. It's not on the Plaza, plus it's kinda on a back road. It's not far from vehicle registration/Buena Vista Winery/various random factory outlets. They have great seating up front to watch the traffic go by, it's good for people watching. There are also free Sonoma region papers. The Blue Bottle coffee is EXCELLENT. Forget the Starbucks that's in north Sonoma, on the way out of town. This is where it's at. read more

Even though this place is a bit pricey, the selection and freshness of items is good. Also, the cafe offers unique gift items and one of a kind things that are not everywhere else. Just this month, The Sonoma Valley Sun voted Sonoma's Best as the place to get good wine. I'm not surprised because this little spot along the road is a good place to pick up stuff for that picnic outing in the country. Ideal for tourists. For locals it is a good coffee meeting place. I know because since this January I've met clients at Sonoma's Best three times. Each cup of coffee or tea is made fresh one cup at a time. The atmosphere is cozy, charming and welcoming and service is good. On nice weather days the patio out back is among the best outdoor seating areas in town. Next time I go back I want to get one of their fresh made sandwiches. Each time I have gone in recently, the aroma of something wonderful being bake or toasted has called me to wonder into the deli section. When I do go back. I will be posting. read more

I would give a 5 stars except for one thing but first the positive. Great local wine selection, many local amazing items, nice cheese selection, great deli, coffee bar, and amazing pastry options. Super cute with places to sit and enjoy the groceries bought. Negative we visited two mornings in a row and the morning crew is on the grouchy side. Not that they are intentionally so but probably being young and not completely secure in how to do their job comes across unfriendly to the customers. One shining lady is Lynne! This deli is located due east of Sonoma's main square and it's a nice little market shop. My wife and I stopped in for lunch and sat in their back patio on a sunny day. I had a mozzarella panini and the wife had the pasta salad and chicken salad. All the dishes were just ok. The mozzarella panini was standard, and the two salads were good but nothing special. This is a nice little market to have lunch and pick up some snacks, so if you need a bite to eat it will get the job done. read more

This place was a real disappointment. I recently moved into the hood and thought this would be a great go-to place for us on the way home. Not even close. Stopped in for lunch on a rainy day and they were not busy. Good thing, because there are no systems in place for ordering food/ beverage. The employees seemed to be overwhelmed as it was. People were being served out of order and some left the building mad. It appears to be divided up into what felt like separate businesses - wine, cheese/dairy, bakery/coffee, and cafe. I'm not sure if it is. It just felt that way. There is no table service (and hardly any tables) and ordering food is confusing. There is no menu. The day I was there, there was a "special", but the only reason I knew about it was the guy in front of me ordered it. My husband ordered a pre-made sandwich out of the cold case and said it was nothing special. Drink selection was dismal. Mainly sugar laden soft drinks. They did not have any brewed ice tea, so we split a bottle of water. I am not sure I will ever come back here, but may give it another try for coffee on the way to work some morning. If I do, I will post an updated review. Sorry guys. I had high hopes this would be a neighborhood fave. The building is adorable, inviting and the interior welcoming. The food here has been on a steady decline since we started eating here about 2 years ago. Such a bummer because we live close by. They must survive on lots of first time tourists. This place serves guddam BLUE BOTTLE coffee! Call me very surprised when I found out that this tiny, unassuming place serves one of the holy grails of the coffee bean. This was enough to garner a Jedi Master Class rating from the PoT. But there was more, much more. Big ups to the male barista behind the counter when he recognized the N7 track jacket that I was flossing. I guess Mass Effect fans are everywhere, ready to fight the Reapers. got the Expresso and wife got the coffee, which put hair on both our asses. Tried their many different jams and olive oils. I say anyone who likes olive oil to try their smoked version...so very good. Lots of places to just sit and kick back enjoy the Sonoma sun. The staff here are all very friendly to everyone, from regular civilians to N7 Alliance Marines. Loved this place. Notice that this is a recurring theme from many other reviews. This place is super surprising. The sandwiches are outstanding. Their bbq pork sandwich in particular is a must every time I go to Sonoma. They've got great local products, both packaged as fresh (e.g. cheeses). Expensive, quality stuff, but I always leave with something delicious. They've even got a great beer selection in the fridge (including some heavier stuff, not just the usual cadre of CA IPAs). It looks questionable from the outside, but it's the perfect place to pick up some sandwiches, brews, snacks, and dessert for a picnic in Sonoma. read more

Came and got sandwiches here for the pool with my friends. We were able to make custom sandwiches which was great, and they had pesto which I love! They didn't have avocado though which was a bummer :( They also had a limited selection of desserts and cheeses, but overall, a solid market. This place has fantastic food for lunch. It's packaged and easy to grab for a last minute picnic. The chai from the coffee bar had a strange flavor so I don't recommend that. The ice coffee had a better flavor so that maybe a good alternative. On Thursday nights they have wine tasting that is fabulous! Breakfast burrito not at all what I expected. Especially for 6$. Not at all what is advertised. Sad that most places today skimp out on everything. Just trying to make a quick buck. Basically means that Sonoma has no good breakfast burrito spots at all and that's very sad. The only reason I gave them two stars is because they're Hawaiian Panini was very good the other day I was there. Other than that I would not waste my time stopping anymore. We were on our way to Sonoma for the day with no intended destination to start when at the end of the street there was a very cute cottage style market/bar style that had a sign saying Sonomas Best 10$ wine tasting. Seeming like a great place to start and plan the day. The deli was amazing and the little bar to the left perfectly accommodated all 10 of us celebrating my friends 30th birthday. Half of us preferred whites as the other half preferred reds. Not a problem. The suggestions and tastings of wine were varied and everything we tasted was amazing. We visited over 8 wineries in 2 days and this was the staple and shining star. Todd took care of our group and was very informative and fun to be around. His love and knowledge of the different tastings was contagious and got all of us excited for our explorations ahead.
