I went for a run around downtown Fort Worth. 5K or 3.1 miles. It was extensive, it wasn't easy, but I did it. On my way back to the Sheraton, I had already pinpointed Sons of Liberty Coffee (maybe just called Sons Coffee, but I'm referring to it as it's storefront's name) as my stop to treat myself. It's in a great location in downtown Fort Worth and is a beautiful space. It's peaceful, it's meditative, and there's lofi hip-hop bumping through the speakers. On my quiet comedown, it was exactly what I needed. I ordered their spring menu's White Rose Latte out of curiosity. There were actual roses in it. They aren't liars. I got it hot like I typically do, and the one-man band running the shop was on top of it. The coffee was pretty good. It had a solid balance of milk to espresso, and the flavors didn't overpower the espresso like a lot of coffee shops try to do. You can tell they know their ratios when it comes to pulling the perfect shot. Good energy is what you want after a city run, and good energy is what Sons of Liberty Coffee provided. read more

Overall score of 4.7 We stopped by this shop on a hot Saturday afternoon and it was quiet. This is a nice size shop with lots of space. We took the barista's suggestion and had a Liberty Latte (hot) with oat milk and a Draft Liberty Latte (cold). We also had a chocolate cake ball and a slice of blueberry lemon loaf. Total cost before tip was $16.30 Atmosphere 4.5 - This shop is a cool urban vibe. I really like this aesthetic. Concrete, glass and natural wood. Everything is black and white, so the natural wood looks great. Very modern. Good music and lots of space. Service 5 - The barista here was great. She gave us lots of information and suggestions, and we liked everything. She even brought the hot drink out to our table, which I thought was sweet because I am sure they can't do that when it's busy, so she could have just called us up to the counter to get or drink. Cleanliness 4.5 - this is definitely one of the cleanest coffee shops we have been to. I thought it was already clean but the barista still went around and swept in between customers. Parking 5 - Easy peasy. Parking on the street is free on the weekends and there is 30 min free parking in the garage with two direct entrances from the garage. Taste 5 - Wow. Everything was truly wonderful. They roast their beans onsite and you can tell. Pastries 4.5 - Good choice of baked goods from local companies n North Texas. Vegan options (get the lemon loaf!) bagels, croissants, empanadas and muffins. Variety 4 - Only one size drink, and you know how that annoys me. Only because I wanted more! Good selection of seasonal and unique drinks, but limited flavor syrups. They do make some of their syrups fresh, so bonus points. Latte art/presentation 5 - Fantastic, really. Great look, great branding. Could do without the plastic cutlery. Bamboo forks would be better, but this shop is very well thought out in all of their presentation. Cool ambiance, short walk from downtown. We ordered pistachio oatchata ($6.75) and white rose latte ($7.75). The oatchata was heavy on the cloves and the white rose latte tasted like sweet milk with no espresso taste. I peeked over to see the barista on her phone while steaming the milk. Relaxed atmosphere at 9am on a Saturday. My coffee (iced oat milk latte with lavender syrup) was 10/10. Sitting on the cozy, leather couch while enjoying it to ambient jazz also 10/10. I'm not a regular small coffee shop goer in DFW so hard to say if this is pricy compared, but even with a military discount and tip my total was just under $8. Stayed at the Omni Hotel and the Starbucks line was crazy long. I needed some coffee before the conference started and saw Sons was close by. Very convenient. Since it was still early on a Saturday, there weren't many customers yet. Ambiance was very chill. There were tables set up for intimate conversation and long tables equipped with outlets ready for studying or workers. There was one person at the counter. He was friendly and didn't rush the process. He even put a foam heart. I ordered a regular latte and the chorizo & egg empanada. Latte was fine, nothing remarkable. Son's was pretty good. Let me start by saying the first thing I noticed was the customer service. They greet every customer and get to know them. I love the son's coffee , vanilla latte, and their treats. Their coffee is not too strong but strong enough to get me going a lil bit. We try to hit good local coffee shops with good reviews. I bought a cup of coffee and the $8 breakfast burrito. Given how great food is in Fort Worth along with the value, the burrito was a major disappointment. It lacked bacon and was the size of a tacquito! Even worse, Denny's serves better coffee, it was burnt and super bitter, I couldn't drink it. I don't understand why people open up local shops if they can't compete against or equal chains like a Starbucks, such a bummer. read more

I haven't been to many coffee shops in Fort Worth yet, but I can tell you right now, Sons of Liberty on Lancaster in Downtown Fort Worth is at the top of my list for best coffeehouses. Being from the incredibly cafe-centric of the PNW it's not easy to impress me but this location brought me back to my coffeehouse-life days! Unlike many of the cafes I've been to so far, Sons sits in a really substantial concrete space with tons of seating, including a window bar, long communal tables and communal high-tops. There's tons of natural light spilling into the space and they also have minimalistic/modern lighting throughout. A really cool feature is their retail corner with some nifty display/storage solutions as well as a "wrap it yourself" station in the of the area with butcher paper, string and gift tags. What really excited me even more we seeing their tea menu! They have nitro draft tea on tap, they use REAL tea, and they have grade A matcha which passes my matcha taste test: -The fact that they serve non-sweetened, grade A matcha was the first optimistic sign -I asked for an oat latte and the milk-to-matcha ratio was well balanced -The matcha itself was creamy & smooth - bright grassy top note with a delicate earthy mid-tone and a delicate sweet undertone It's been a long while since I've had a good cup of matcha, so this made my heart sing with every single sip! I mean, just on the fact that they are serving legit & quality tea says VOLUMES about their beverage knowledge and puts even more brand trust in my mind. If they care this much about their tea, I KNOW they're gonna have good coffee too. I am definitely coming back for more now that we're in the neighborhood. read more

My go to coffee shop is still Buon Giorno as some of you already known this lol, but to show that I'm not obsessed and have an open mind, I still check out new coffee places from time to time, slightly hoping to find a replacement or to change it up from Buon Giorno. Still not succeeded yet! We did frequent this place a few times for a good month or so. I love how open and bright it is with big glass window. They have a lot of seatings as well and free garage parking in the back. That's a huge plus for being in downtown. 1 star Overall, it's a pretty hipster place. The baristas are young but skillful regardless when it comes to latte art. I just wish they played better music. Located conveniently along Lancaster on the south end of downtown Fort Worth, Sons Of Liberty may be the largest coffee shop I've ever visited. Its re-purposed urban sensibility mixes materials and textures with quite a bit of air and light to create a space that achieves coziness and quiet, despite concrete floors, metal walls and tall glass windows. It seems there is something to see everywhere I look in this nicely designed interior. Seating options are diverse, and good use is made of the tall space, with spot lighting that creates the sense of small when seated in this big room. I've been twice now and both times the baristas were hipster and conversational, with a homey sincerity in their interactions. By the door is a small area where the products of local, eco-conscious businesses are available for purchase. This includes some super cool branded coffee accessories (will snap a pic next time I'm there). I've had the Americano both times, which is rich and flavorful. My companion ordered a double shot over ice, which was *really* potent. It's not my taste, but the quality was high. Limited parking is available along the front with a parking garage behind the building offering free parking with validation. The parking garage has quite a bit of space reserved for businesses. Be prepared to circle up a couple of levels to find a non-reserved space. Very high recommendation for the coffee and the overall experience at Sons Of Liberty. My one piece of feedback is they don't recycle, which surprised me considering the vibe of the place. read more

Love this bright, welcoming coffee shop! While the coffee is good, I think the avocado toast I got here was even better. I thought the price tag was high for just one piece of toast, but that's normally the way it goes with avocado toast ha! It had caramelized onions, tomatoes, and sprouts. A great mix!
