Traditional steak at the top and cheesy wheesy at the bottom
    Bernadette M.

As an upper Michigan girl who grew up on pasties and only eat it once a year when I visit home, I was very excited to finally try Sonsons! Lots of parking and I was greeted right away by Diane when I walked in. She was really nice and answered any questions I had. The place isn't big but it isn't tiny, I think there were about 3 or 4 tables. The decor was cute and clean, gave out those British Cornish pasty vibes. Good variety of pasties on their menu and they also offer frozen and gluten free pasties. I ordered the traditional steak and cheesy wheezy. Diane asked if I wanted them warmed up, even though I was taking it to go, yes I do! 25 min later they were still warm when I got home! Yay! The pasties come with a delicious gravy but I grew up eating them with ketchup. The pasties had a good amount of tasty filling and the crust is more on the flaky thin side. I enjoyed both though the cheesy wheezy is supposed to have two kinds of cheese in it but I didn't taste or see any? I appreciate there aren't big chunks of potatoes in there (can't stand that) , instead they are thinly sliced :) I will def be back! Thanks Sonsons :)

My cousin suggested we visit her as our Nanny was born and raised in England. She always loved a good pasty, and we wanted to honour her memory with a pasty! As she would say, "Be rude not to." Upon entering we were greeted immediately and noticed it was an order at front then seat yourself kind of location. Not my favorite, but also reminded me of some of the small shops we visited in England. For vegetarians/vegans, you will want to call ahead. I didn't realize and only had one option, which was full of onions which I don't tolerate well. Either way, it was a decent pasty though the crust was a little dry. My cousin said her's was good, but nothing crazy. We may be a bit biased of the nostalgia of having with our Nan but it's a great local place!

I was excited to try Sonsons Pasty Company as the pasty is close to my heart. Had to stop in with Diele K to honor our heritage. Upon approaching the location, there is a nice, large patio out front. When we entered the building, we were greeted. The menu is on display and you place your order at the front and pay. Once the order is complete, you can walk up and grab it from the employee at the front. This is a very casual dining experience. The walls of the location is decorated with lots of fun things to look at. I enjoy the type of decor as it reminds of my Nanny's house growing up. The menu has a variety of filling options and the option for vegetarian if you order ahead. They also offer take and bake. I ordered the cottage pie pasty ($10). The pasty is served on disposable plate with disposable silverware. It was good but not my favorite. The crust was a little dry and the gravy was very loose. If I returned, I would try a pasty with a different filling. I think it was worth the stop in, but I would not go out of my way to come back.

Sonsons is a small pasty shop tucked in the corner of a shopping complex, you probably wouldn't notice it from the street. It had a lovely little makeshift patio set up outside and inside a cozy dining area and counter to order. The family each picked a pasty to go as well as a freezer pack for lunches. I had the steak special for August. It didn't have a ton of steak, but between the vegetables, crust, and gravy, I was satisfied. My daughter got a cottage pie, which was stuffed with ground beef, potatoes, and mixed vegetables. We're looking forward to going back for more.

Sonson's has been on my radar for a while. This is a small little cafe that specializes in Cornish Pasties. As a mater of fact that's about all they do. Pronounced (pass-tee), a pasty is a small baked pie resembling a calzone. Traditionally they were made by the wives of Cornish miners for their lunch. With a few small tables inside, and a couple outside Sonsons is geared for take out. With about a dozen different pasties to choose from I wanted the traditional pasty. This is a pie pastry filled with steak, potatoes, onions, and rutabaga, baked to golden brown perfection, served with brown gravy. I have only had a pasty in upper Michigan and parts of Wisconsin that have a history of mining. The pasties here are the real deal. Unfortunately the traditional pastys were sold out, but there were a few left in the warmer. Rather than waiting 35 minutes for a fresh traditional, I chose the ground beef pasty with the difference being it is made with ground beef instead of steak. This pasty did not disappoint. It was just like the ones I've experienced in the midwest. I can now get an authentic pasty in my own neighborhood. Next time I will call ahead so I can get the one I want without the wait.

Updating my review after trying Sonson's again about 10 days ago. I ordered via DoorDash for lunch. I picked two pasties, one chicken pot pie and one steak. Both arrived nice and warm with a warm gravy on the side to go with them. They were delicious (steak just a tad bit on the saltier side for my preference) and they were big enough that I ate only a half each and saved the rest for later. Prices are good for what you get. Will be retuning more frequently for sure. We love delicious options that are close to our home!

I love the pasties from Sonson's more widespread competitor, and these pasties seemed to have more of a traditional flair to them so when I was in the area I figured let's try them out for lunch! Unfortunately, unless you have around 30 minutes to 1 hour+ to spare for lunch you're SOL for a quick meal. I called to place a to go order and most of their pasties at noon were either premade and cold or frozen. Some of the meaty ones I wanted would take 30 minutes to cook in their oven and the frozen veggie medley would take an hour because it was frozen. Hmmmm well I'll just take them home and heat them up myself then. They did have some pasties in the oven baking but those would be 20 minutes, still a bit too long for me to wait at the moment. The shop is in a not-too-busy strip mall area and occupies a corner spot away from the main street. They've converted part of their parking spaces to an outdoor patio so when it gets cooler or in the morning/evening dining al fresco might be a nice option. The shop inside is a bit small and most of the space is devoted to the kitchen and pasty storage. For your reference, the cold pasties bake at 350 F for 30 minutes. As for the frozen pasties, the instructions are as follows (From their website): - Remove wrapping. - Preheat oven to 450℉. - Place frozen pasty on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. - Bake at 450℉ for 15 minutes, then turn down to 350℉ and bake for 45 minutes. - Remove from oven. The pasty is hot, so let it sit for five minutes. We know this is the hardest step, but it is worth the wait. There was a container of gravy included with each pasty but those were frozen solid which made thawing them out a bit of an interesting challenge. I got the traditional steak, green chile chicken, and vegetable medley. I asked the toddler when we got home, do you want steak or chicken? My budding food critic answered promptly "'TAYK!" But then she had a tired toddler tantrum so off she went in her bed for a nap. Don't worry I saved her half for when she woke up! The steak pasty was done just as expected in 30 minutes according to the instructions. The exterior was nice n flaky, with a super buttery flavor. The steak was tender and the potato+ rutabaga was shredded. It was full flavored with salt and pepper but on the verge of being too salty for me but I'm more salt sensitive than other people. The gravy went well with the pasty. I really enjoyed the green chile chicken pasty. The flavors were spot on and it was just the right amount of spiciness for me. I'd get this again! I haven't tried the veggie medley yet. It's still nestled in my freezer but I look forward to heating it up next time I'm in a pasty kind of mood!

Sharing a Steak and Cheese and a Chicken Pot Pie pasty

I love a good pasty!!! We aren't usually in this neighborhood and when we saw the sign we had to check it out. I'm sorry I didn't catch the name of the lady in the shop, but she was a hoot! The interior is small and quaint - just a few tables. But a nice big patio area out front with tables. I would recommend calling fist - they only have a limited number of pasties that are hot and ready to eat onsite. Sausage rolls are made fresh and take about 20 minutes. Order at the counter. We shared a Steak and Cheese pasty and a Chicken Pot Pie Pasty. She split it for us and recommended the gravy which was a great tip!!! Very filling and the steak was our favorite. We ordered 2 sausage rolls to go (they were very good!!). We also took 4 frozen pasties to bake at home later. They have freshly baked desserts - we will have to try them another time. A great stop!

Where else to go but to a pub! We arrived at 6:40 in the evening and seated ourselves as is the custom. While many of the tables are hightops, we chose a regular table off to the side. First was an appetizer of Curried Chips along with NA Guinness to wash it down. The chips were like mashed potatoes in the center and crispy on the outside. Along with the authentic curry to dip them in, it was deliciousness on a plate. On to the main dishes. Companion ordered Bangers and Mash. Excellent tasting sausages served over mashed potatoes in traditional style. Companion loved it but was unable to finish it. For myself, I had my Fish and Chips that I was craving. 2 large pieces of cod perfectly fried in a beer batter coating. Served over a pile of perfect chips and accompanied by malt vinegar I was back in the U.K. Only problem was that it was served with a side of English peas instead of mushy peas like one would get overseas, but one can't be too choosy. Of course, we had to have dessert. There is always room for dessert! Companion ordered Toffee Pudding with Hot Custard sauce and I ordered the Bread Pudding. The toffee was chewy and sticky as it should be and the hot custard sauce added just the right touch. My bread pudding was in dense slices as is proper in the U.K.. I stole some of companions Hot Custard to put on it and it was wonderful. This was an excellent dinner which brought back memories of pubs in the U.K. The only thing missing off the menu was a Ploughman's Lunch, but not enough people would order it I think. Service and cleanliness were up to par. It's worth noting that on Sundays they have Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pudding. I can't wait! 5 stars

I was not a fan of the chicken pasty as it was very dry and not what I expected based on the reviews. I've had pasties before that I enjoyed and this was not it.

She's the only one from her side of the family to leave England for the good ole USA, so I grew up with lots of English influence and visit several times in recent years as miss the fam across the pond. Besides missing family, I often find myself craving food and beverages from England; one main food item is a Cornish Pasty. When booking afternoon tea, I hadn't realized that Sonsons Pasty was attached to Quirky Royal Tea Room. Impromptu lunch after finger sandwiches, and tea. Definitely could plan an afternoon homage to English culture and cuisine. We ordered: - Cottage Pie Pasty: great flavor of cottage pie, but I feel their pastry is a bit dry. Additionally, I prefer brown sauce (HP Sauce) over gravy with my pasty. I think more sauce choices could be nice, or I'll take home next time so I can add my own brown sauce on the side. - Sausage Roll: this was delightful! A proper sausage roll in my opinion! I did want brown sauce, but it stood up in flavor on its own. A definite return to enjoy when the area for me. And I don't have anywhere in the valley I've liked a sausage roll! Well done, Sonsons! Overall, I find myself preferring the sausage roll versus pasty. Though location is quaint (two tables), we enjoyed a simple lunch for under $20 even with two drinks! I'll be back when in the Gilbert/Chandler area.

This was our second visit to the Cornish Pasty Co. location on 32nd Street in Phoenix and our third…read morevisit to the restaurant group overall. We continue to be impressed by both the quality and creativity of their food. On this visit, I ordered The Pilgrim, which is essentially Thanksgiving dinner wrapped inside a pasty. It features turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, and gravy. It arrived absolutely piping hot--seriously, give it a few minutes before taking that first bite--but once it cooled down, it was phenomenal. The combination of flavors was comforting and satisfying, and a little cranberry sauce with each bite provided the perfect balance. My only minor critique would be that the ingredients could have been distributed a bit more evenly throughout the pasty. I also found the gravy slightly more peppery than expected, occasionally overshadowing the stuffing, sweet potatoes, and turkey. Even so, this has become my favorite pasty at Cornish Pasty Co. We also tried the Peppered Steak pasty, which features sirloin, portobello mushrooms, leeks, zucchini, Stilton bleu cheese, and a peppercorn brandy cream sauce. The quality of the ingredients was excellent, especially the steak and the wonderfully flaky crust. For my personal taste, the peppercorn brandy cream sauce was a little more prominent than I prefer, and I found myself wanting more of the steak, mushroom, and Stilton flavors to come through. That's simply a matter of preference, though--it was still a well-executed dish made with quality ingredients. One thing Cornish Pasty Co. consistently gets right is the crust. Every pasty we've had has been flaky, flavorful, and substantial without feeling heavy. This wasn't our first experience with their menu. Over the years we've thoroughly enjoyed the Tikka Masala, the Lamb & Mint (which was a genuine "wow" dish), and the Royale. Those are all excellent choices, but after this visit, The Pilgrim has moved to the top of my personal rankings. Our two pasties came in under $20 each, making for a filling and satisfying meal at a reasonable price. We ordered takeout, and while there was a bit of a wait after we arrived, it's worth noting that these are made-to-order pasties, not fast food. Even though we only ordered a few minutes before arriving, the quality was well worth the extra time. My biggest criticism has nothing to do with the food. While waiting, my wife and I sat inside briefly, and we found the music extremely loud. During our visit, the restaurant was playing Silth, a progressive metalcore band. Musical tastes are obviously subjective, but the combination of the style and volume made conversation difficult for us. My wife eventually decided to wait in the car because it was simply too loud. The restaurant clearly aims for a lively pub atmosphere, with games available and a diverse mix of patrons enjoying themselves, so many people may appreciate that environment. It just wasn't a great fit for us. That said, the food is outstanding, the portions are generous, and we'll absolutely be back. We'll probably continue ordering takeout, but that's a reflection of our personal preferences rather than any issue with the restaurant itself. If you're looking for creative, well-made pasties with high-quality ingredients, Cornish Pasty Co. is definitely worth a visit.

Their bar selection is vast with tons of beers on tap and various bottles/cans available. While it is always pretty busy, there's always a spot to sit, and the service staff is on top of their game. The location has two floors, an upstairs bar and downstairs, and pool tables/dart boards on each level as well. The vibe is very cool, with plants and chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. If you want more of a dark and mysterious vibe, head upstairs. If you like it a little more spacious, downstairs is your place! If you haven't had a pasty before, you are missing out on an exquisite dining experience. Whether you use a fork and knife or eat it as a proper hand pie, you'll love it. I am particularly fond of the chicken pot pie.

When she politely asked what it was, the employee immediately got defensive instead of addressing the concern. Any customer would be alarmed if they thought there was glass in their drink. She asked to speak with a manager, and he dismissed the concern by saying it was "nothing to be scared of." When he returned with another glass of water, he slammed it down in front of her and claimed he was the manager. Moments later, another employee came over saying he was actually the manager and that the first employee was just a barback, but he was just as rude and unprofessional. To top it all off, as we were leaving, staff flipped us off. We've never experienced such disrespect from employees over a simple and reasonable question about something that appeared to be in a drink. Mistakes happen, but the way customers are treated is what matters. The hostility, lack of professionalism, and complete disregard for a legitimate safety concern made this an experience we won't be repeating.

Im not much of a beer drinker so I am not familiar w the sizes or names- I seem to only enjoy it in AZ because it's hot as hell for summer and I am not sure if the menu goes up after 630pm, but I was having a good time and I didn't want to make a big deal about it because it was a lot of people at the bar top, but def keep things consistent with what the menu says or update it accordingly with pricing. The soup was amazing! I had the chicken and bean soup- super flavorful and nicely seasoned! The bread that accompanied it was so filling, I left with a tummy ache from being overstuffed haha. Decline the bread in the future if you're watching your weight or counting carbs or only ask for one slice. It is thicccccck and probably should be shared or saved for later lol! I took a few pieces and dipped it in and also shared with a coworker. I tasted two beers before deciding on this rainbow sherbet sour that tasted like an old school flinstone pushpop ice cream that was also rainbow sherbet or orange sherbet flavored. The vanilla blueberry beer I think had too much of a vanilla essence for me and I didn't care for the taste. Thanks for letting me taste the soup and two beers before deciding my fate. I had a great time here! Always the perfect vibes!
