The ambiance is super cool. Think old, gothic styling with wallpaper and antique furniture. It is very dark in there, but I like that. Feels like a gloomy pub. The food came out fast. The potato, leek, stilton soup was absolutely fantastic. I don't like blue cheese, but it doesn't taste like it at all. It's just a perfect, creamy, thick, cheesy potato onion soup with super fluffy and thick cuts of bread. The pasties are huge and can easily please two people. The Guinness Steak Stew was ok, it didn't have as deep of a flavor as I was hoping it would. My brother got the Mexican style one though and it tasted like a perfect chimichanga. The sausage was plenty and very tasty, though I'm not a big fan of the sage. Potatoes were good too, but I think under seasoned. Didn't taste the garlic at all really. Me and my boyfriend had such an amazing quick evening at Cornish at the bar we came on Saturday, May 30 around 4:45 PM our bartender anticipated all of our needs and even recommended me a delicious lager that I ended up ordering. The ambience was absolutely beautiful and it was very clean in there. The food was even better. We got the Reuben pasty it was stuffed to the brim couldn't even finish it. Wanted a late night meal, so my friend and I stopped here. While I normally love their pasties, I wasn't a big fan of the ones we got this time: rosemary steak and the royale with cheese. I should've stuck with my favorite: lovely bit of salmon. If I had gone earlier in the evening, I probably would've chosen other favorites like the bangers and mash or the shepherds pie. The service was top notch though. The oven chips were okay...nothing super special about them. The server was great though. He was friendly and on top of it. Glad this place was open. I think I've only been here once before many years ago. I got the hamburger or cheeseburger pasty (I don't remember the name), my friend got some pasty with steak. We also got loaded fries (mediocre). When they brought our plates out, the same guy who took our order, also handed us our food. Mine looked weird, and has SO MANY tomatoes in it. I didn't enjoy it at all... turns out the guy handed us the wrong plates, and by this time my appetite was already spoiled. This place wasn't busy at all, actually it was near dead. SENTRY - WATCHING RESTAURANTS The Cornish Pasty Company 1941 W. Guadalupe Road Mesa 85202 I had not eaten here for many years, so it was time to check in again. We were seated immediately. Unlike when they first opened in 2012, the atmosphere has toned down the music a lot and it is more pleasant to eat there. Our waiter presented menus as well as a list of libations. Since we were driving we opted for non-alcoholic drinks. Companion had a Heineken 0 and I had a Guinness 0. Both were brought out nice and cold. Companion ordered the pork and apple pasty which comes with a side of red wine gravy. The portion was large and half of it was put in a take out box. Companion also had an appetizer of tomato soup which came with an enormous piece of bread with butter. I ordered the Oggie which is the traditional pasty containing meat, potato, onion, and rutabaga, also with a side of red wine gravy. With a meal like this, we shared dessert of sticky toffee pudding which came warm with a huge ball of vanilla ice cream and was probably 4000 calories, but who's counting!. For those not familiar with a pasty, they originated in Cornwall, England and was the food ot the miners. They mined for tin, but a lot of it was mixed with arsenic, which could be a problem if it was eaten. Since the miners had no way to wash up and didn't leave the mine to eat, the problem was solved by putting a large rope shaped piece of dough around the pasty for them to pick it up. They ate the pasty and threw the dough handle to the rats to eat in the hope that they would die of poisoning. Having eaten pasty's in Cornwall, I'm pleased to say that there is no difference between the flavor of the ones in the U.K. and the ones here. 4 stars for good food, good service, and overall cleanliness read more

Service is attentive, friendly and helpful with getting drinks going, filling waters, checking up on you, taking orders and answering any questions. Plenty of tables inside and a nice outdoor dining as well. For food, I ordered one of my favorites, the chicken pot pie pasty and it comes with a gravy sauce on the side 10/10. Don't skip dessert!! The sticky toffee pudding is quite literally one of the best desserts I've had. You won't be disappointed! I often think that I was meant to be born in the UK, downing pints at my local pub all day, swearing up a storm, and cackling loudly at dry humor. Cornish Pasty brings a little bit of reality to my dreaming. It's dark and pub-like inside, with a good range of beers and cocktails. And despite the reputation that British food is just bad, CP proves otherwise. The pasties and pot pies are delicious, not to mention the salt-and-pepper chips. Cornish Pasty is one of the few places open late. It's reliable and offers the best comfort food when it's been a long day. We've always had great service here too! They make it so easy to split a check too if needed with a group of 6! My favorite pasty here is The Pilgrim pasty. It's Thanksgiving in a pasty! Cornish is always great. The only thing I'd say about this location is that it is not a quick lunch spot. If you want something quick- go elsewhere. It's usually just one or maybe two guys working and it takes a while to get everything out. If you have time to have a beer, shoot pool, and relax, though, this is your spot. I was torn between two pasties and she recommended the balsamic portobello, $16.50. My parents and I have been fans of Cornish Pasty, since the Tempe location and we were thrilled when the Mesa location opened as it is a little closer to us. It's been amazing to see it start as a small location and see it expand through the years as well. So spacious now! The quality of food has always been consistent, and have always loved both dining in and taking out. One year we had pasties for thanksgiving and it was delightful! I'm notorious for sticking to the Veggie Cottage Pie as I always loved that it is served with HP Sauce. Can't go wrong with brown sauce! This most recent visit, I tried the Veggie Mexican and throughly enjoyed it. I love that this establishment has so many vegetarian and vegan options. It is what keeps me returning all these years. First time here and loved it! When it started to get dark the lights were dimmed, love it! Love the vibe and the music. I ended up staying for over 5 hours working/studying. The guy that helped me when I got there midday was sooo nice, helpful and explained the whole menu. The girl that helped me later was also quick and nice!! Bread starter was really big for price! Everything was pretty big portions and so good! I'm really picky but they have everything. Vegan/gluten free. Busy for a Monday and you can tell the staff loves working there. Oh Cornish Pasty, how do I love thee? Allow nearly 2 decades worth of bank statements to count the ways..... I've been going to Cornish Pasty's various locations in AZ for some time now. In my early 20's when I lived on Hardy and University I quite literally lived across the street from the Tempe location. Having Cornish Pasty and the Cheba Hut in such close proximity were really the only selling points to the 500sq ft roach motel I called an apartment that I was "living" in at the time. And around age 30 I met my now husband at the Mesa location for our very first date. Suffice it to say, I have a lot of fond memories of Cornish Pasty as a Valley establishment. The food itself is what I would firmly plant with the "comfort" variety. It's a collection of craving-specific fillings wrapped in a thick, carbo loaded, flaky crust. I've had about 11 pasties that I can count on the current menu. It's kind of the perfect spot to pick if you and your companion(s) want cuisines from entirely different parts of the world, because the fillings run the gamut. The beer selection is phenomenal, as well. Service is generally good but is typically affected by how busy the place is... and the place is often real busy at nights and on weekends. Some of my all time firm favorites are the Oggie, Lamb and Mint, Italian, Meatball, Carne Adovada, Cubano, Shepherds/Cottage pie, Vindaloo, and the Chicken Tikka Masala. I loooove the red wine dipping sauce the best as far as accompanying sauces go. I would drink it if they left me alone with a vat of the stuff. The salads and sides I've had are ok. I'm just not a big fan of most of those offerings but they are by no means sub-par in any way. I do typically love the soups/soup du jour. The dessert pasties are really good but I order them few and far between as I'm usually unable to find the room. I love the fact that they offer take-n-bake pasties, too. All in all, Cornish Pasty is a solid choice my husband I turn to ~1-2 times a month, either takeout or in-person. It's always a safe bet for where to take friends who are visiting from out of town, too, as their menu offers so many different cuisine types (via pasty fillings) that you know there's gotta be something your out-of-towner(s) will find appealing no matter what they're craving, or what dietary restrictions they might have. Pro-tip: Always have a "top 3" pasties in mind before ordering, as they're likely to be out of several when the place is really hopping. Let's start with the lighting, or lack thereof. I understand wanting to create an ambiance, but it was so bad that I had trouble reading the menu. As a person with certain dietary restrictions, I was disappointed that there is no nutrition information available on the website. That said, I did appreciate the fact that there was a whole section of the menu devoted to vegan and vegetarian options. I ordered the vegan pot pie. It was underwhelming. First of all, the amount of food on the plate was sad considering the $17 I paid for it. No sides, just a pastry filled with an assortment of veggies and a little bowl of sauce. The dipping sauce was quite tasty. Sadly, it was the best thing on the plate. The pie filling was on the bland side and the veggies had that slightly rubbery texture that you get from bags of pre-prepared stuff in the freeze aisle at the market. There was no salt or pepper or other condiments on the table, which I found odd. We had to ask for those. And finally, at the end of the meal, when it came time to settle up, the waiter announced the total amount out loud to the entire table. It's been months of 'under construction' vibes--half the seating is gone, the bathroom hallway is sketchy, and there's debris everywhere. The biggest red flag is the blocked-off kitchen exit; having a fire hazard like that while the place is already cramped is a big no for me. The staff was friendly in a way that made me wonder if they could sense my growing food obsession, subtly preparing for the moment I'd beg for a second pasty as if my life depended on it. Now, let's talk about the pasty itself--the main event. I ordered the Oggie because it seemed like the most traditional choice, and I like to pretend I respect history. The golden crust was flaky but sturdy, a quality I admire in both food and people. Inside was a mix of steak, potatoes, and onions that tasted like comfort itself, the kind of meal you'd want after a long day of making questionable decisions. It was rich, savory, and so good that I briefly considered selling my car just to fund an all-pasty diet. But then, foolishly, I saw the dessert menu. Because, of course, this place isn't content with simply feeding you; they want to ruin all your future meals by setting the standard unreasonably high. I ordered the Banoffee Pie, which arrived looking so beautiful I briefly considered writing a sonnet about it. The first bite was a revelation--layers of silky toffee, fresh bananas, and whipped cream so light it defied gravity. I first tried out this wonderful British inspired pub when I was a college student in Flagstaff, and I am delighted to see they have expanded to opening more locations in the valley, Jerome, and Las Vegas! Now they just need to open a location on the west side for us Phoenix fans. It's family friendly, but at night definitely takes on more of a pub style with the crowd there to drink and play pool. The beer selection is always massive, I love that they try to get lots of local breweries on tap, and they usually have great specials depending on the day! The food is so unique and comforting, the selection of pasty's ranges from meat stuffed traditional styles to vegetarian and they all are to die for! If you're not feeling a pasty they also have salads, appetizers, large sides, and dessert. I personally have tried every single appetizer and every single side dish (I've come here often) and could recommend any of them happily. My favorite pasty that reminds me of yummy comfort food is the cheese and onion, with a side of the wine gravy! The wine gravy is to die for, I could dip the bread or any pasty in it and it goes amazingly. The staff are always kind and attentive, and usually the bartenders keep great company if you wanna swing by solo!
