We had a great experience this week at Bobby Q! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted warmly and quickly shown to our table. Along the way, we caught a glimpse of mini donuts being made, and let's just say they had our attention. More on those later\! Carrie was our server, and she was friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome throughout the meal. Things got off to a great start with the complimentary cornbread. It was warm, moist, and the perfect way to kick off a barbecue feast. I ordered the brisket sandwich with mac and cheese. The brisket had a wonderful smoky flavor and was cooked well. It was just a little drier than I personally prefer, but I'd happily order it again because the flavor was excellent. The mac and cheese was creamy, cheesy, and a great pairing. My husband started with the loaded potato soup, which he thoroughly enjoyed. For his entrée, he ordered the Tomatillo Brisket Mac & Cheese. Their homemade mac and cheese was topped with smoked brisket, tomatillo sauce, chives, and sour cream. It was creamy, comforting, and the tomatillo added a fresh, slightly tangy twist that kept the dish from feeling too heavy. II was an appetizer but more than enough to be eaten for the meal. Our daughter ordered the pulled chicken with potato salad. The chicken was tender, flavorful, and the potato salad was a delicious classic side that complemented it perfectly. Now, about those mini donuts...they were absolutely worth saving room for! Fresh, warm, and coated in cinnamon sugar, they were the perfect sweet ending to an already wonderful meal. I'd heard great things about Bobby Q and was excited to finally give it a try. With all the positive reviews and accolades, my expectations were pretty high. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to the hype. The BBQ was overpriced and lacked flavor. The smoked brisket and pulled chicken were extremely bland and tasted more like they had been cooked in an oven than in a smoker. The sides were also disappointing. At $8 for a very small portion, I expected much better quality and flavor. I'm not sure what qualifies as great BBQ in Arizona, but based on this experience, this wasn't it. Our visit to Bobby Q in Mesa began a bit roughly - but TL;DR; the good news is some great staff turned the evening around! How a team reacts to problems tells me more about the place than just having a 3 or 4 star experience - this group showed experience, grace, and real concern. To start - if you want a booth, make sure you specify that when you put in your name - it changes the wait time. While we waited, we ordered Cokes from the bar, and Marquis gave a warm welcome and great service! Upon finally sliding into our booth, we found the seats hadn't been brushed off - and it was very crumb-y (pun intended) - we ended up using our napkins and then grabbing new sets from a nearby table. We also learned the Coke was FLAT and bitter - not great. However our server, Calvin, during that typical greeting and small talk actually invited us to share our concerns, asking us not to hold back and as a result went above and beyond to turn our experience around. An additional visit from Manager Josh followed, apologizing and genuinely seemed to want the the feedback as a tool for improvement and coaching for some new staff. From that point, everything was great! From getting replacement drinks, to sampling the pulled pork and brisket to tender ribs, and the good sized Cajun shrimp appetizer, the team truly redeemed the evening, and the apple cobbler (it's got a pastry top!) and cinnamon sugar donuts was a great close to the meal. We went for dinner a couple of weeks ago on a Friday night. You can always count on great food. I order the smoked brisket dinner. The meat is tender & delicious. Our waiter, Omar was attentive & on point. He made our dining experience feel like we were invited to a friend's house for dinner. He wouldn't just stop to check on us, he would talk to us, as well. Closer to a 4.5 because Crystal was awesome and there are many things to like about Bobby Q's. The place looks great and has a fun, energetic (but welcoming) vibe - like a bbq place should have. Sat at the bar to avoid any wait and it was a great choice because Crystal took excellent care of us. Ordered the "Whole Hog" and got to try different meats and sides. The mashed potatoes with peppered gravy were a hit, and the brisket was tender. Also enjoyed the pulled chicken and beef ribs. Overall good food - definitely get the mash! I decided to give this restaurant another chance after having a terrible experience at their Thanksgiving brunch--it was honestly the worst Thanksgiving meal I've ever had. I've been attending barbecues for many years at their location on 27th Ave, and that one has always been the best, even though the prices have gone up and the portions have gotten smaller. Unfortunately, this location was a big disappointment. I'm giving it one star only because the service was okay. The food, however, was absolutely horrible. The ribs tasted like they had been sitting out--cold, crusty, and even slightly rotten. The mashed potatoes were awful, and the vegetables were completely soggy. Came here for dinner and was glad we had reservations. There were quite a few people waiting for tables, and there is not a lot of space to wait. This place has a great atmosphere--very rustic, with lots of reclaimed wood and exposed brick. If you take a walk around the bar, you can see how big this place is. One big complaint we had was the drink menu. It's had nice colorful pictures of each cocktail, but absolutely no description of the cocktails. That would be great if we were only in an Instagram world, but we actually like to choose our cocktails by what's in them, and more importantly what's NOT in them. I love mezcal, and hubby hates it. Hubby loves whiskey, and I hate it. But there was no way to know the ingredients. We asked the server if there was a menu that listed what was in each drink. She said no and I asked how are we supposed to know what's in the drink? She said she knows them all and we would have to ask her. She really did know them all, but we only asked for a couple because we didn't want her standing there giving us the rundown of 20 cocktails. I'm not sure why they would do it this way, but it seems like a really bad thing. I really love the cornbread and butter that every table gets. So happy to see our server bring us the basket! Hubby got the brisket salad and I got to pecanha steak with chimichurri, mashed potatoes and pecan coleslaw. I loved every single thing about my meal. The chimichurri on the pecanha steak was delicious! On the other hand, hubby said that his brisket did not have much flavor and that it was just okay. Of course at the end of the meal we got a little bag of the signature cinnamon sugar donuts! That's always a treat! This was my second time visiting Bobby Q, first time for the Mesa location. The staff right away were so sweet and funny. You really have amazing staff, great group of people. My party got a ton of food to share and for three of us it left us with plenty to take home. Everything was delicious! I was really impressed with the smoke flavor and portion sizes. The complimentary cornbread and dessert donuts are a great addition to the meal as well. I also loved the interior design, soft calm lighting. We had so much fun here for my mom's birthday. They had to have little portable AC units nearby to keep the temperature comfortable, but it didn't bother us. And the bar has a pretty nasty smell, so as long as you're sitting away from it, you're good. Super fun decor and ample seating. Our server was great, and all of our food was delicious. Wow!!! Best Barbecue I've ever tasted!! I've had the best! Texas, Carolinas, Kansas City....the meat is prepared and "Qued Up" in a special unique aged and smoked way. Beers on tap=High Satisfaction! My wife had the fried chicken while I had the two meat combo of Brisket and Beef Ribs. Everything came out quick and hot and delicious. The service? Man oh Man!! Anthony our server was amazing! He attended to our every need and was so professional and knowledgeable. One last mention...the vibe or ambiance should I say. Very calm and inviting atmosphere. Please don't be fooled by the hostesses who are energetic and will announce your table readiness at a high decibel level . First time ever going here. I got the chicken fried chicken, which was phenomenal. I loved it. It was nice and buttery tasting. The gravy was perfect. The mashed potatoes were awesome. I also heard they have donuts here. I didn't get the trim. The machine was down, but I heard they're phenomenal. The service was good. The waitress made sure we had a food on time. We've been coming here for years, hosted a big Birthday party here and numerous other special occasions. This time, disappointed. Sat a a table that was rocky. Moved to another table which was okay. While we were there, no one fixed the rocker. We usually order the Hog Heaven, for the 2 of us, knowing we will be taking lots of tasty leftovers home. Received our meals, and felt something different about the food. We got that feeling a couple of months ago, but just thought it was a bad day. Now, I'm wondering if they have changed their meat supplier. Ribs were not as good as on previous visits. Brisket not as tasty. I stopped getting their beef ribs, my personal favorite because last time they were 1/2 size, tough and grisly Portions seem smaller and less delicious. Have talked to other people who loved this place and agreed with me. Quality has declined. This used to be one of top 3 choices in the area, now in no hurry to return. read more

No air conditioning. It's been broken 3 weeks according to staff. They are trying to get by with portable evap coolers but it's not enough. I was uncomfortable my entire meal, and especially when the hot food arrived. The staff also tells me they are uncomfortable. Hopefully this review will motivate management to make this eating and working environment better for all. Food is always good to very good. This time also good. Lastly, was told I couldn't have a lime for my beer because the bartender already threw them out. It was right at closing time though. Our server, Michael, was so great with being attentive and offering recommendations. The manager came to check on us during our meal which was so nice. I'm not from AZ, and was here visiting friends. Luckily, we found this place through Yelp and we're glad we did. This place has a lot of character and the food was delish. Servers here are super friendly and welcoming. Only sad thing is we don't live in the state. There was a bit of a wait so we decided to sit and eat at the bar area. No waiting. We ordered their Whole Hog Heaven meal, which was good for 3-4 people. With the two of us, we definitely had leftovers. We tried various bbq meats, with the beef ribs being my favorite. The meal also comes with three choices of sides. We got the pecan Cole slaw, loaded mash potatoes, and ranch style bbq beans. All of them were extremely good. Couldn't even pick a favorite among the side items. We also enjoyed a few cocktails, and the bartenders know how to mix drinks. They did my smoked old fashioned perfectly. Oh, and besides the excellent complimentary corn bread, they also serve you freshly made cinnamon donuts for dessert. I'll definitely come back here if I'm ever in Mesa AZ again. read more

Got to say that a good restaurant always has staff that seek to please you and this place shows that effort at the entrance and the exit. The atmosphere is elegant and tasteful, great place to bring a date or the boss lady. I came for the BBQ but didn't know they served fried chicken so that's what I led with. I did try to add a beef bone but at 12:30 they were already out... I instead added some pulled pork and some brisket. The two sides were roasted jalapeños which were under cooked and needed salt and Mac n cheese which were the best I've had so far at a local BBQ joint. It was super creamy and super cheesy with some very flavorful browned cheddar cheese on top, magnificent... the fried chicken was a lite medium crust that had a lite to medium herbal flavor. The meat was well penetrated with the 24 hour marinade, super moist. I would rate the chicken as a 4 out of 5. It was pleasant but an herbal crust blocks that caramelized fried chicken flavor. The pulled pork did have a lite smokiness to it but felt a touch dry. It was sent out with a smear of sauce on top, sin number 1... The brisket was a 5 oz portion. It was nice and tender but had very little smoke flavor to it. I couldn't tell if there was a pink ring due that it also was sent out with sauce on it but I'm sure it did, sin number 2...!!! My friend had the brisket and ribs. His opinion about the brisket was the same and commented that the ribs had little flavor and was overcooked, the bone literally disintegrated in his hands. We both rated the BBQ altogether a 3 out of 5. I gave this review a 4 because the Mac n cheese and chicken raised the total score. No one should ever order brisket and receive it pre-sauced...ever!!! We've ordered from Bobby Q's many times and have always enjoyed the food, but unfortunately this last experience was the absolute worst. A majority of our order was missing, and the few items we did receive were dry, overcooked, and the sides were completely cold. When I contacted the delivery driver, she told me she had already raised concerns at the restaurant before leaving. She said there were items missing that she went over with the server, but they sealed the bag and insisted everything was there--even though she said it clearly wasn't. When I called the restaurant, I spoke with a manager who told me my only options were to come pick up the missing items or file a refund request. After already dealing with missing food and poor quality, I was understandably frustrated and did raise my voice during that conversation. I went ahead and requested the refund. Later, I called back and spoke with another manager who informed me that my refund request had been denied because I yelled at the first manager. Denying a refund for missing food because a customer is upset about poor service is completely unacceptable. At that point I had no choice but to file a chargeback with my bank. It's incredibly disappointing because we've supported this business many times in the past, but after this experience I will not be returning. Being charged for food we never received and then denied a refund is beyond poor customer service. read more

Hubby & I had dinner here last night. We got there a little before 5:00. We were greeted & seated right away. Our server came to our table promptly. We ordered are usual waters, beer & sangria. the sangria was raspberry sangria. It was good, but was a light pour. The drinks came in a timely manner. We ordered the whole hog. You get your ch of 2 rib slaps, 2 other meats & 3 sides. It also comes with cornbread & doughnuts. We ordered double baby back ribs, brisket & sausage. For our sides we got Mac n cheese, ranch beans & potato salad. The ribs were fall off the bone just like we like. They were tender & moist. They were however fatty. The brisket was lean, tender & moist. I didn't try the sausage, but hubby said it was okay. The Mac n cheese was excellent! The ranch beans weren't very good. I didn't care for the potato sala. I prefer mine with mustard in it or more flavor. The cornbread was good. So were the donuts. We were a little disappointed with the service because one of our biggest pet peeves is to have our finished dishes left on the table. He did finally take some away, but not all of them. My group of 5 absolutely loved our experience tonight at the Mesa, AZ Bobby Q. The waiter was very communicative and went above and beyond for our group. He was very attentive and we really appreciate that! My favorite item of the night was the Texas Twinkies. I was served a platter with creamy sauce and bbq sauce for dipping the 4 jumbo jalepenos stuffed with cream cheese and brisket. These little armadillo egg looking things were completely wrapped in bacon. I don't tolerate heat too well, but these gourmet jalepeno poppers didn't feel too spicy at all! We tried the Beef Ribs and The Pork Ribs, which were fall off the bone tender. The string fries were perfectly cooked and seasoned. The mashed potatoes were delicious and buttery. The baked potato came loaded. My group ordered the Mezcal Ofrenda cocktail which is served with a dazzling flame, and black salt rim. My group did describe this drink as "earthy", possibly due to the mezcal and activated charcoal in this drink - so fair warning! I personally tried the Blackberry Cocktail and it was deliciously sweet with a stem of fresh blackberry and Raspberry. 10/10 all around. I'm from Cali, so I don't play about my food... but Bobby Q really did that. My son and I went while we were in Arizona and we were seriously impressed. I ordered the ribs and brisket -- and both were SO good. The brisket was juicy and flavorful, not dry at all. The ribs were tender and seasoned perfectly. Like actually fall-apart good. And the cornbread? So nice. Soft, slightly sweet, just the right texture. I could've eaten that by itself. Service was unbeatable -- friendly, attentive, just good energy all around. Had dinner here a couple Fridays ago and we had a pretty good time. We did not have a reservation so there was a little wait for a table. Once we were seated we were given menus and time to look over them. We were a party of 4 so we decided to get the Hog platter, a potato soup, and a side of chicken wings. For the sides we got corn, mashed potatoes with gravy, and mac and cheese. The corn bread was brought almost immediately and it was nicely warmed up. Not too long after, our potato soup came out and mmmm this soup was delicious. It was hot and very flavorful - it was also a pretty big bowl. Next came the wings, sides, and platter. My niece is obsessed with the chicken wings so she dug in right away. The wings were not dipped into the sauce which we thought was nice. I believe she was given BBQ and buffalo on the side to dip them into. The platter was the star of the night... This thing is huge. We ate almost half of it and took the rest home. All the meats were flavorful and juicy. The sausage in my opinion could've been cooked a little longer as it didn't taste fully cooked - next day we threw it into the air fryer and it was 1000x better. The corn had too much of a charred burnt flavor so it wasn't our favorite. Everything else was good. We wanted donuts for dessert but it was unfortunate that the machine was down :( Service was good.
