Got a root canal on my molar yesterday. Dr did a great job i felt no pain from the procedure. Dr did a great job at explaining each step. Staff was fast and efficient. Appointments were easy to get. As a bonus, The view from the chair to the mountains actually helped take the edge off the procedure. I just read the other reviews about shady pricing and 3d xrays and new technology. I think its a misunderstanding. My dentist that referred me explained to me that the view has all this specialized equipment that would be able to do my molar ( 3 nerves) root canal in 30 minutes instead of 3 separate trips per nerve. I did some research and found that its due to the 3d x ray. I personally prefer a 30 min procedure vs 3 trips. Especially for a root canal. I had questions about the high pricing too. i had a little back and forth with my insurance and it turned out my PPO dental allowance was kinda low and the copay was correct at $400. Im sure it differs with different insurances. My coworker said he paid $750 for his root canal. In my opinion the view has good prices. The view office person stephanie was super nice and explained my bill for me. It matched up with what my dental insurance person said. I found nothing shady. I got the procedure done yesterday at the view. It was great, no pain. Im happy i did it. I had a root canal 20 years ago at my regular dentist, that hurt! The views equipment is definitely superior. I was referred here by my dentist because my wisdom tooth had started pushing against my other teeth and causing crowding. I called their number about 15-20 minutes before closing and believe I was routed to a call center, as the person I spoke with asked which location I wanted--even though I had called this specific office. He asked for my information (name, DOB, insurance, referring doctor) and asked what day I wanted to come in. I picked a date about a week out and was told someone would call me back to confirm the appointment and time. Unfortunately, no one ever called. During that time, my tooth pain became more frequent, so I was eager for a call back. On the day I thought my "appointment" was scheduled, I instead received a call from the office asking to make an appointment and requesting all my information again. I then scheduled a new appointment for another week out, meaning I had been waiting almost two weeks total while dealing with increasing pain and visible facial swelling. Before the visit, I saw an estimate through my insurance portal showing the cost would be around $136, which didn't seem too bad. I completed the new patient forms online and submitted my referral and X-ray via text, so check-in was quick. I was called in within about five minutes, had a panoramic X-ray taken, and was seated with the image displayed above me. I was seen by Dr. Apel and he explained that my wisdom tooth was growing sideways. After stepping away to see another patient, his assistant brought in the cost estimate, which was nearly 10 times higher than what I had expected. She explained original quote was based on a normally positioned tooth, and because mine was impacted sideways, the procedure was much more complex. The price was shocking, but I was in pain, face swollen, and decided to proceed. The office like an assembly line, with chairs separated by walls. While Dr. Apel worked on another patient nearby, his assistants prepped my area. He then came over afterwards, applied a numbing gel and administered several injections, which I didn't feel at all. If you're worried about pain from the shots or any pain in general, the numbing process was very effective. The extraction itself took about three minutes. By the time I opened my eyes, he had already moved on to the next patient. His assistant went over the aftercare instructions. Despite the confusing appointment process and the unexpected cost, the actual procedure went very well. I had no pain by the next morning, and the area healed nicely. read more

The view dental specialists has very good endodontist doctors. The root canal treatment that they performed over a year ago went very well with no problems. The only reason for two stars is their high cost. Although I have dental insurance that covers 100% of the cost of a root canal I was still charged about $500 for a consultation and x-rays. At first I thought that other doctors also charged the same. When my dentist told me this month that I needed another root canal I decided to call other endodontists. After making a few calls I found another endodontist that charged me only a $38 co payment using the same insurance. If you're not concerned about cost than this doctor is ok otherwise check other endodontists on Yelp. read more

Be careful of this place. I feel like I was scammed by them. They will up-charge you to maximize profits. They will recommend extras you don't need, knowing it's not covered by insurance. They will tell you the estimate as you are in the chair for your appointment to maximize pressure and reduce the time you have to think. I'm making fraud complaints to the State and the insurance company. My dentist who referred them threw away all their advertisements after he heard what they did. I was referred here to obtain a consultation for a root canal. They first informed me that I need to get a 3D Xray (costing $300 more) instead of the normal x-ray that is covered by my insurance. When I asked if it was required, they said yes. Then I called my wife who is a dental assistant, she says the 3D is not required. They only need it if it is a very complicated issue. So I told them, and they changed it and said it is recommended, but not required. After the simple 30 sec exam from my normal xray, they said i needed a root canal, and they asked me sign the agreement to pay sheet for the service. I see there are 3 separate cost items. One is for the procedure costing around 1K (insurance covers $750) and the other 2 item not covered by insurance. These two items included a "BPURE" and Gentle Wave costing an extra $700 that my insurance didn't cover. When I asked why my insurance didn't cover that, they said it was a new technology. I asked if it was required. They said once again, yes it is required. Then I call my regular dentist and asked him on the phone, he said it is not required, then they tell me they recommended it but not required. I decided to walk out of the place. Then they tell me i have additional $80 out of pocket i needed to pay for my 30 second exam. I paid and got out of there. This place is really shady. I will be reporting them to the FTC and DOJ including CA Department of Insurance. read more

I recently had to have a root canal done. I was referred to a different officer by my regular dentist. They couldn't see me for three weeks. There wasn't any way I could wait three weeks. I found The View Dental Specialists, Jonathan answered the phone and said they could get me in the next day. He was so nice and helpful. The staff and Dr.'s are fantastic and caring. Everything was explained and I had multiple questions about the procedure. They even gave me several options (including having the tooth pulled, not recommended) They made me super comfortable and took care of me better than I could have hoped for. I honestly can't believe I need to write another negative review, but here I am again. I was scheduled to FINALLY have a root canal appointment today (one month after my initial consultation, when I was in excruciating pain.). It was decided on that day that I needed two root canals, one on tooth 19 and the other on 31. The endodontist herself said "we will have to do these in two visits, so just come back for your appointment and we will do whichever one hurts more that day." Exact quote from her. I called to try and make an appointment for tooth 19, and the first availability they had was two weeks out. I said I'd keep the appointment, but most likely would take my services elsewhere since I needed something ASAP. I ended up getting the tooth 19 root canaled by an emergency endo ($$$) days after my initial consultation with them, when they refused me pain medication and didn't emergency submit my insurance referral (even though they said they did- I had to call my insurance company only to be told that it wasn't submitted as an emergency.). This was the day after I wound up on the ER because of my pain. Next up, I call the View back now to confirm my previously held appointment with them so I can have the other root canal done by them, since they did the consult on both teeth. Turns out front desk staff had already cancelled the appointment I had made. Okay? So I try to reschedule an appointment and told I would receive a call back. Never receive a call back. Finally, I call again the next day and am able to reschedule for two weeks later. I specifically tell the girl on the phone that this is for the other tooth (31) that wasn't the one in emergency pain. I explained that I had the first one done already elsewhere because it was a dire situation. She says ok and it "seems?" like she understood/cared, but she clearly didn't. So I show up today, for my scheduled appointment, and am given my paperwork and they have the tooth wrong! (19). I explain that I am here for the other tooth, (not that it should matter, since the Endodontist had already said, we will do "whichever one hurts more the day of your appointment." I go to the back and sit down and someone comes out to tell me they have to call my insurance now to ask if we can do the other tooth. Wtf?! Turns out they never submitted a pre-authorization for the second tooth even though a MONTH earlier, it was decided that I needed emergency services for both teeth. I was literally beside myself. They told me they couldn't do the root canal today unless I wanted to pay out of pocket. Honestly, I was furious. I left without having anything done, and was given attitude by the front desk girl as if this was my fault? I am so disappointed with the lack of communication and accommodation from this office. It was super clear as well that the front desk staff was being rude to me since I had said I would be seeking services elsewhere when they couldn't give me an emergency appointment for my tooth that they messed up the paperwork on. Sister, it's not my fault! You'd seek out other services too if your mouth felt like it had nails piercing through it! I really wanted to give them another shot because my initial visit with Dr. Shimizu was lovely, but my goodness. The headache of their front desk coordination is worse than a five shots of Novocaine in the back of my mouth. read more

I have an appointment for a consultation today and decided to arrive earlier in order to discuss payment. When you arrive, you are greeted with a table and a sign in sheet n top. I automatically signed my name and help myself inside the office and wait. No one greeted me and when I went to the front desk, the front desk person told me to wait (this time she was not friendly already). So I waited. When she came to and asked for payment, I started to explain to her that my insurance covers the consultation and I brought and showed her a copy of the list of coverages of my insurance to prove my point. However when I was in the middle of explanation when she just left, went to another room, then came back and told me that I am not covered. I tried to explain again and advise her to contact my insurance to verify but she just cut me off and keep on saying that they are a specialist office and my insurance does not covered the consultation. The absolute worst! Dr. Tota Shimizu was referred to me by my primary dentist. So, I blindly trusted and went to meet Dr. Tota Shimizu for consultation. After having me wait for 1 hour, despite having a firm appointment, I left highly concerned for others and felt scammed. My entire upper arch is a FAKE / TEMPORARY CROWN. Again, FAKE/TEMPORARY CROWN. Dr Shimizu finally walks in after having me lay on their bed for 1 hour and asks me to smile and touches my teeth and gum and says, "your teeth is perfect. What did you need to get done?" Waitttttttt!!! Are you serious? You cannot tell the difference between a real and a fake teeth? My non dental educated friends/family and even my own customers have noticed my fake/temporary crown but a licensed dentists cannot tell the difference is very alarming. I was handed a bill of $185.00 to have Dr Shimizu make me lay on their bed for 1 hour and for him to tell me my teeth is perfect and has no clue why I'm there. Despite the form I handed him from my primary dentist. He was either severely high on drugs/drunk or downright has no clue wtf he's doing. read more

I had 2 root canals done in this office. The service was amazing and they take Liberty/Health Net which is a Medi-Cal plan and a lot of specialties do not accept. Dr. Tota Shimizu was great. I felt no pain during numbing since he uses a numbing gel before using any needles. I didn't feel any pain during the procedure. He was very gentle and he talked me through the whole procedure as he worked. Ryan and Michael, the dental assistants, were so great and even gave me some eyewear to protect me and a cape to protect my clothes, as well as some Vaseline for my lips, just in case they got dry during the treatment. I went in for a consultation for a root canal. I was met by Dr. Do who was very friendly and explained everything to me. The day of my root canal I filled out the paperwork and was taken in quickly, even though they messed up my appointment time. The Dr. greeted me including her assistant who was very polite. I had a abscess that had formed so she decided to do more exploratory work before proceeding with the procedure. She found a crack in my tooth and gave me the options on either trying the root canal which would have had a failure rate against me or a extraction which she recommended. The nice part is she explains in detail so a normal person can understand what she is talking about. To find a Dr. like Dr. Do I was trually impressed. I landed up taking her business card and will refer people I know that are looking for a great endodontist. I highly recommend her. I highly recommend going here for root canals. I had two root canals here within a month. Dr. Shimizu and his dental assistant were excellent and did a wonderful job. NO ONE wants to hear that they need a root canal... let alone two (cracked tooth and tooth infection). Both root canals were done efficiently and I had zero pain afterwards. After both treatments, I did not require any medication for pain or discomfort. Dr. Shimizu uses a technology called Gentle Wave (not covered by insurance but worth paying for) that eliminates the extensive drilling to clean the canal that is typical for root canals. After my second root canal, I literally forgot I had a root canal earlier that day. I would go here even if my insurance did not cover part of the treatment. Yes... they are extremely busy so show up on time. Yes... as is my experience with all dental offices, you have to be diligent when it comes to figuring out what your insurance covers and how much your co-pay will be. I think this is more of a reflection of the the disconnect between insurance companies and the offices. So... call ahead and have everything arranged regarding payment BEFORE you arrive so you aren't showing up to a super busy dental office, with the stress of a root canal, and then you have to discuss any misunderstanding regarding payment. Do not assume the office and your insurance company will be on the same page regarding payment. My experience with the staff was awesome. They were very accommodating and friendly but I called ahead so I did not have the added stress of payments when I got there. And... the view is amazing. read more

My son had to have his wisdom removed and this office was recommended. I can't even begin to tell you the experience we had at this office: 1. The front office is messy, unorganized and rude. 2. The waiting area is small and they were making family members to wait out in the hall. 3. The dental staff was arrogant and very condescending when they spoke to us. Our insurance took care most of our bill, we received an Invoice with a balance...no problem, made payment arrangements over the phone using a debt card. I made the 1st payment over the phone with no issues, the 2nd and 3rd payments was to be deducted by them; I got a nasty phone call from someone on their staff saying that my card was declined and demanded payment right away. I wasn't sure what they were talking about, I told them that can't be because they just took a payment 2 weeks over the phone and I had used it earlier that day. I asked her to confirm the card number and it was incorrect on their end, someone had written the last number wrong. As soon as I corrected her, there was no apology...no thank you for your payment, just a reminder that a 3rd payment was going to be due in 2 weeks. Had 3 wisdom teeth extracted by Dr. Armand and that's been my best dentist trip ever! He explained everything in detail before the procedure began, which made the whole thing easier and less scary. Came to the View as a referral from my dentist. Located on the 2nd floor of this medical building. Getting an appointment was pretty easy. I got called in pretty quickly. X-Rays took 30 minutes. They took 20+ pictures. I saw the doctor for about 10 minutes to explain my situation. She was in a rush because she was doing something with another patient and left to talk to me. Afterwards, they stuck me with a staff member to answer questions who absolutely knew nothing. I would ask questions and he would just fumble his words and run off for help. I took my 17-yr. Old to get a consultation to see if he needed a root canal and according to them, he did. We go through the procedure and a day or two later, he is in terrible pain that lasted several days. We went back and they give him antibiotics. About two weeks later, I take him to his general dentist and they tell me that we should see an orthodontist because the X-ray does not look right. So here I am trying to go see a specialty and wondering if a root canal was indeed warranted in the first place. On top of that I receive an invoice from them for about $600+ which they never mentioned before doing the root canal. Would not recommend! read more

This place is a nightmare. I got referred here to get a root canal done as well as my wisdom teeth. Root canal was fine and Dr. Do was amazing and made the experience so easy and comfortable. She's easily the best part of this office! When I was nervous about the procedure, she let me know I was in complete control and allowed me time and space to take as many breathers as I needed to and was very attentive and encouraging for me to bring in whatever I needed to comfort myself. Went to get my wisdom teeth pulled today. I was anxious about the procedure and couldn't afford the nitrous so I went into it with just the local anesthesia. I have a hard time w the shots so I was trying to make some time in between shots to breathe and center myself but Dr. Apel seemed very frustrated and irritated by me not being able to take several numbing shots back to back. After he left, I calmed down a bit and got adjusted. Then when it came to the actual tooth pulling it got worse. For the most part I didn't feel any pain just lots and lots of pressure. I was tearing up bc the sensory experience was very overwhelming and there wasn't any pauses for a breather. Dr. Apel seemed very frustrated that I was anxious and very impatient w me. I was crying and trying my best to stay still and endure it. One of his assistants was trying to help him get my tooth out at one point but he was putting his hand on my throat/neck which caused me to panic bc of ptsd related stuff. Dr. Apel noticed my response and asked if I was in any pain, but obviously with all the dental tools in my mouth I couldn't ask for them to move his hand from my neck. I said no and he told me if I wasn't in any pain I needed to stop trying to fight them and let them work. Afterwards, felt super dizzy and nauseous and needed to lie down. One of the workers let me know to take me time but they kept pestering me and asking if I was ready to go until I finally caved and walked to the busy waiting room still dizzy and nauseous. Eventually it passed and I drove myself home. Then I went to the kaiser pharmacy to pick up my medications (antibiotics and pain killers) but only received antibiotics. They had not sent the script for pain killers. Then when the pharmacist reached out to them to inquire about the prescription for the pain killers, the receptionist told the pharmacist i wasn't seen today and that I hadn't been in for a visit. They eventually called back and figured it out but I guess they made some revision to the original antibiotic script and I had to wait even longer to get that. Overall majority of the staff is rude, the office is extremely disorganized, and all of them could do with a little more patience and empathy towards their patients. It's a rainy Friday. I am the first one there. A badly calcified root canal from a fell-off crown which was decade old. I'll remember the dry clean place, great view outside window, soft background tune, comforting voice of nurse Jessica, so very patient and kind and professional Dr.Loo, and the considerate and detailed office manager Sarah. This is a tough project. Took about 2.5 hours. They stuck with me until the job is done, no sneaky shortcuts, just plain honest and professional work. Also absorbed quite some expenses and managed to fit everything into my budget. I am very grateful. By the time I left waiting room is almost full. I have no doubt why people choose here. Update: I wasn't going to respond to the reply of the owners but the lack of professionalism is absurd. Of course it's easy to be "professional" via a comment. Your reply is ABSURD. To clarify, I have a record of every phone call and office visit. "To this day we never heard back from you"... oh please, Janine L., save it. From February 2019-July 2019 I've had 15 phone calls and 8 office visits that *I* MADE, to resolve the issues. I even went to the office to personally make sure the correct phone number was on file. I have witnesses for multiple phone calls and office visits in which the staff told me they'd call me back as soon as the issue is resolved. And after I left, I never heard back. As for phone calls on file from this place, 0. I have received ZERO phone calls from you. And ONE letter without any previous warning that I had a bill going to collections. If this is something you'd like to look into, I will HAPPILY have a conversation with my phone carrier providing that I've never had you guys "reach out to me". So after a dozen phone calls and visits I've made, no, I will not call you to discuss my issues. I've done it over and over and nothing's changed.
