yesterday i was walking around in the sunshine and felt compelled to return to bangs. my hair is very long, somewhat thick, and unruly / curly. i went to soon beauty lab after seeing some fantastic reviews - excited, with a clear vision -- please cut my bangs past my eyebrows. i don't like waiting for them to 'grow out', i would like them to look as i wish them to look now. i was greeted with kindness. no appointment they squeezed me in with anna. she was lovely, sweet, and asked me what i wanted. i told her exactly that. i also told her that my hair is curly and i didn't want short bangs that i would have to manage with a blowdryer and flatiron. she seemed to genuinely understand. and then poof. my bangs were super short, she had cut them without paying attention or maybe without understanding curly hair. i so wanted to love the salon and i genuinely thought anna was a nice person but really, most important for a stylist is for her to truly listen and understand your hair. if you have curly hair, do not go to anna. my bangs look ridiculous and i am pretty bummed. read more

I've been growing out a pretty wild-looking pixie cut for over and year and literally went in to Soon Beauty lab with a mullet thing going on. I decided to take advantage of having a SOON beauty lab across from my apartment and stop in this afternoon. Rebecca did an incredible job not only listening to my thoughts and assessing my hair but then following through on her promise. The style is still long but far lighter and with more movement. I loved the entire experience and almost wish I had an excuse to go again sooner. The staff was friendly, inviting and the complete opposite of what you experience at many salons. The pricing is a bit more than other places in the neighborhood but you get what you pay. read more

I hate getting my hair cut. Unless I get a simple trim, I usually leave the salon feeling traumatized. After many years of long, straight, boring hair, with an occasional disaster in between, I finally decided it was time to grow up and embrace a "style." I have been to Soon Beauty East and West in Manhattan but, living in Brooklyn, I was thrilled to see that they recently opened a shop in Carroll Gardens. Other Yelp reviewers raved about Meg and her profile on the website sounded like she was my kinda gal. I booked a same day appointment and arrived a little early to their new, adorable, vintage/boudoir/glam space. My appointment started on time or a little early and from the get go, Meg was so kind and well versed in her craft. She very patiently walked through my ideas with me, listening to my concerns and offering sound, professional advice. Not once did she pressure me to do a super dramatic chop (which some stylists foam at the mouth for). She made great suggestions, took her time, and reminded me that we can always take more off but we can't put hair back. After a heavenly shampoo/head massage from one of her co-workers, Meg spent well over an hour slowly working on my hair, consulting with me as she moved along, and showing me how to style it on my own at home. Long story short, I left the salon looking great and feeling satisfied with my experience. It was a huge change (probably around 8 inches off!) and for once, I didn't want to go home and cry. I think my days of semi-annual trims are over. I will surely return to Soon Brookyln to see Meg. I might even go shorter! read more

I was lucky enough to be a haircut model for Nikki. She was very sweet, bubbly, friendly, and talented to boot! I came in with little ideas but with very challenging locks: I have very thin, fine hair, fairly long, and a huge shaved undercut on my right side. Nikki was excited for the formidable task and posed various ideas. Every choice she explained thoroughly, technique and purpose, and the end result was fabulous. She is one of the few hairdressers I've had who have been able to add real volume to my hair just by design of the cut. Very grateful! I had an important meeting on a Friday and my usual go-to hair salon was closed because of a blizzard so I called around and was infinitely grateful Soon Beauty Lab on Smith Street was open. At that point I would have been glad to see anyone with a blowdryer and a brush. The big wow was Danielle and her glorious head massage while shampooing, some nice Australian products and Tia who kept the relaxation vibe going with her masterful blow-out. I may have fallen asleep in the chair. The next day my hair still fantastic and the texture felt great and I received compliments from strangers in Manhattan like I was living in a commercial. I'm not very good with hair/cosmetics, and have traditionally gone with the simplest possible haircuts; I like the way other people look with wild hairstyles but always assumed I couldn't handle styling it (and I didn't even know what to ask for). Sonia's energy and intuition finally pushed me to go for "fun" hair, and I am thrilled! If you hold yourself back because you're style-challenged but want to go crazy, Sonia's your gal. I went in for a cut & color with only a vague idea of what I wanted; it was my first professional dye job so I was kind of clueless. I showed Sonia colors I was thinking about, which she warned would probably clash with my skin tone. She understood the type of look I was going for, though, and went through some other options with me. She was right - my hair looks dope - and she also gave me a great cut (plus walked me through some simple tips on styling it, which I desperately needed). Anna at Soon is truly terrific. I'd all but given up on salons because I felt there was no real hope for my super fine, straight hair- I just had my boyfriend give me trims on the roof every few weeks and figured I'd keep my hair up in a bun for the rest of time. But Anna managed to send me out of the salon with a cut that gave my hair both shape and volume, and I'll definitely be back for more. I really wanted to love this place and was looking forward to my appointment for weeks, but walked out of there feeling pretty crappy. I've had a blonde ombre balayage for a little while now, but after getting a bunch of greys in my hair, I wanted to go back to some blonde highlights throughout my head to blend in with the grays. I really wanted a stylist to consult me on what would be the best way to go about my color, especially because I'm getting married in 8 months. Instead, my initial talk with the stylist was maybe 2 minutes and she just proceeded to do a half of head of highlights because that's what was written down for my appointment and refused to even put two foils on the back of my head, so the difference is not so noticeable when I'm wearing my hair up. Then I was left at the sink for at least a half an hour where different toners/glosses (I'm assuming) were put on my hair without any explanation. My hair color came out much darker and warmer than I wanted, even though I repeated "ashy, light blonde" several times and even showed a picture! Finally, I basically had to convince my stylist to give me a trim, because apparently that wasn't written under my appointment either. The whole thing felt very rushed and to top it all off, I was charged over $380 (without tip) for a half head of highlights and a trim. Sadly, I will not be going back to this place. read more

I've had a weird history with my own hair and did not elicit the help of hair professionals until later in my life. Partly because I was rejecting beauty standards all righteously--cutting, dying, shaving on my own whims--and partly because I never cared enough to justify the expense. Later I would get cuts from those in training, never establishing a regular routine or a relationship with a consistent stylist. Eventually I started realizing my hair potential was not being met. I needed a pro. But there was this whole social problem: I hated the forced salon conversations. The social expectations made me uncomfortable. (I swear there needs to be an Introvert seal that can be put on businesses door.) And I would leave a salon and never want to talk to that person again... so I wouldn't get my hair cut by them again even if I liked the cut! Then I found one I liked... and then I moved. Then I found one I ! If, randomly, I was given the weird task of inventing a perfect hair stylist, after the crash of a few lightening bolts, I would have created Megan, Master Stylist at Soon. She is capable, highly competent, friendly and sweet, and understands hair. And she's smart and fascinated by the world. Which is very important as I learned that I wasn't so much introverted as I just don't enjoy talking to folks who are dim and basic. So I get a ton of compliments on my great hair and great conversation. I'm so glad my path lead me to Megan at Soon! read more

I got a cut and style and it was the most effective, attractive and manageable my hair has EVER been. The woman is a Wizardess!! She knows exactly what will look good on me and pushes me to try new things and it always turns out amazing! I have never had anyone cut my hair so perfectly! She is very good at what she does, and with more than 10 years of experience and a friendly personality she makes herself a great hair stylist. She really makes sure she understands and you understand what you want. She studies your hair and gives you a good opinion if you ask for it. (Sonia Ghita ROCKS)...... is what the previous review said about her, and I AGREE!!!! I've gone through 10 or so hairdressers in the last 7 years. this is because I have the most difficult hair to cut. It's wavy, super thick, very coarse and I also chop at it myself in between cuts. Basically I am a hairdressers worst nightmare. That is, until I found Sonia back when she was at Panyc. (Panyc was a bit far for me so, i'm glad she moved to the cobble hill location). She can cut it dry or wet, which is great depending on whether i'm wearing my hair straight or natural that season. She does both my short and long cuts exactly as I would want them. I would describe my style as "professional with an edge", and she achieves that every time. In fact since her cuts grow out really well, I haven't needed to "chop" at my hair between appointments. I haven't gone to her for color yet, but last time I went to her I saw the client before me come out with some really great highlights. I hear she is also known for that. So maybe next appointment I will treat my self to some color. I'll update you guys after I get that done. P.S. Soon Beauty Lab is a beautiful and perfect new home for Sonia. I went to Soon Beauty Lab for hair color with Meg. I had a fantastic experience, although it wasn't flawless - I ended up having to be really specific about certain things, but it's because it was the first time Meg had worked with my hair and was trying to ascertain how I like particular things. She wasn't happy unless I was 100% happy, and I'm going back in a few days to get freshened up and a cut. All in all a great experience, and my hair looks great right now even though it's been 6 weeks (the sign of a great job). read more

I got my hair cut by Meg in early October. I moved to Brooklyn over the summer and hadn't had my hair cut since July. Also I'm growing out bangs (and thinking about cutting them again) so she had her work cut out for her. I never thought I'd be able to go from black hair to fabulous but that's just what happened. 4 years and 1 baby later I finally realized I needed a change. I went black because I didn't have the time, money or energy to deal with all my Grey's and it was a color I could easily do at home. It was making me feel old though and I felt really drab. The other reason I waited SO long to change my hair was fear of having a bad dye experience. Stripping black off of hair and trying to go lighter is no small thing. After a few days of research I decided to check into same day availability for a double process color at Soon Beauty Lab. I figured my chances were nill but luckily someone was looking out for me. Not only did I snag an opening but it was with the owner, Ryan. He put me at ease and we went through what color I was looking to go back to,a lighter brown with red highlights and he was honest about what I could expect. 4 hours of hard work later and I was transformed. I looked and felt like a whole new person and I've never had that experience before. To say I'm overjoyed is an understatement. Meg cuts my hair every six weeks, and does a great job keeping it stylish and not too fussy. The salon is really nice, and the staff is super friendly. You get a good shampoo, and then a rinse after your haircut so you don't have to go home with an itchy neck. Meg has hooked me up with some good shampoo and styling goop. I went to Richie for a "partial highlight" even though I wasn't really sure what I wanted going in (normally I have a photo in mind but have no idea of the process of how to get there...). The photo I brought in was something that I thought I would need to come several times to achieve as the color was much lighter than my current color, but Richie promised to get me there in one appointment and he definitely did. I left feeling awesome, but of course a few days later when I was doing my own hair I started to second guess the color (thought it might be a bit too bring since it was a big change). I called the salon expecting to have to come in and pay for another service, but they scheduled me another evening appointment with Richie straight away. He listened to everything I had to say, didn't challenge me, and made my hair PERFECT! I get so many compliments and it looks so natural that almost no one even noticed that I've basically gone from a brunette to a blond. I have thick, dark, naturally curly wavy hair that has undergone years of damaging color treatments.... and wouldn't you believe it, I wanted to go blonde. After a week of research, I learned Soon uses Olaplex and that almost every reviewer had raved about the service there - and they were right. Igor, my stylist, was absolutely perfect and knew exactly what to do to get my hair the perfect shade of blonde! He graciously stayed almost an hour after closing time, along with two other amazing staff members, to tend to my uber-thick hair. (And for a girl with big hair that eats up color like no other, the price was absolutely reasonable) But besides that, everyone who works at Soon is friendly and warm, it is the exact kind of environment one could ask for. I came in for a cut and color with Kyle this week, and I am absolutely blown away by his skills! He was attentive, courteous, polite but not overtly hyper in his mannerisms, and most importantly, I got exactly what I was looking for with my hair. Kyle frequently checked in to make sure I was comfortable in my seat, with the water temperature, and if I needed anything during my stay. He told me that he hasn't been doing hair for very long, but his skills were that of a seasoned pro.
