The salon itself is nice. The staff is friendly and provide you with a complimentary neck wrap while you sit and wait. They were on time for my appointments and never had me wait more than 10min past my appointment time, so that was a plus. The pricing for their services are fair and it is based on the stylist skill level that you ask for. I had a hair stylist named Anelle cut my hair for the first time and it turned out fine for $25. She did try to sell me hair products even after I told her I don't like using any hair products on my hair .. I ended up purchasing it and I have yet to use it so that was a waste. I asked her about their pricing options for Balayage coloring and she checked a sheet at the front desk and told me it would be around $60. I decided to make an appointment to come back and have my hair colored. The day of my appointment, I came in and she says that it will actually be $120 because it's a 'multi dimensional' coloring. I agreed to it and showed her a couple photos of the Balayage so she could see the different colors I wanted to incorporate. In the end, she only used ONE color to highlight the ends of my hair and that color turned out SO brassy/orange. And my roots weren't even taken care of. I thought multi dimensional coloring incorporated multiple colors? After I paid for this I went home and my friend even said that it did not look right so I had to come back and have them fix it a couple days later. Anelle said the color didn't turn out right because I had a 'box color' on my hair so all she did was put a toner on it and charged me another $20. So I spent $140 for a horrible color job. Since Sorella couldn't even do my hair coloring correctly, I went to a different place and asked for a full color & highlight. He was able to color my hair from dark brown to a chocolate brown with caramel highlights. He took care of my roots and made sure my old color didn't show anymore. He didn't even need to use bleach like Anelle did. So when she used the excuse of my Balayage hair color not turning out right because of the box color I used on my hair, she was WRONG. This guy obviously knows how to color hair correctly. I referred so many of my friends here for their hair cut but I will never refer them here for coloring. I went in for a desperately needed haircut a few days ago. What I ended up with can only be described as an extremely crooked, long, pageboy. I wanted face framing layers, long bangs and my hair to be cut to just past my shoulders. My hair was waist length and since I hadn't had a haircut in three years, I needed a new stylist and salon. Sorella is near where I live, so I thought I'd give it a go. I've never been terribly picky about my hair, (but I think that's because I've always had fabulous luck with hairdressers), so I didn't request anyone in particular. I'll never make this mistake again. The girl who did my hair looked at my reference picture, asked me some questions, and assured me I was going to love it. After only 20 minutes she was finished. By this point, looking at the finished product, I was having serious reservations about how it looked, but I figured it was just a shock to my system at it being shorter and that I'd come around to it, like I have in the past with haircuts. By the time I got home I was coming to terms with the fact I didn't get ANYTHING close to what I wanted. I realized she didn't even show me the back afterward, and after looking I knew why. It was cut at a near diagonal! After looking at it in the mirror for a bit, I did something I've never done and swore I'd never do, I cried over my hair. I called Sorella the next day and asked if I could come in and have it fixed. I was told I'd have to see the same stylist or pay for a whole new haircut! I mean, the girl who did my hair was nice and all, but why would I want to see her again? So now I'm stuck with this until I can find someplace I trust to fix it. It seems some people have really good experiences here, but I can only recommend you're extremely careful about who you make an appointment with. read more

First time at Sorella and I loved it! The salon is very nice and clean and the staff is very friendly. Sami cut my hair and is AMAZING! I came to see her after not cutting my hair for over a year AND seeing the same hairdresser for the last 10 years prior....(I know...yikes.) She did an amazing job! I have thick, coarse, curly hair, and the cut she gave me looks awesome when my hair is styled as well as when I leave it natural. Suggested a protein treatment to give my hair back some strength & repair damage, and gave me exactly the cut/length/style I asked for. My hair looks and feels amazing! I went ahead and made my next appointment in a few weeks! I definitely recommend Sami!!! My ONLY complaint about Sorella is that they don't accept American Express. read more

Used this salon once with Amanda H. Not impressed... I brought a picture of how I wanted my bangs done, but halfway through my appointment she said, "I'll make them a bit longer so you can tuck them." They were so long they weren't even bangs!! The bangs were at my chin! She spent the entire appointment pushing astronomically expensive products on me instead of ensuring that I was happy with the cut... I've seen her instagram posts of all the colors she does, but girl cannot cut hair. I was very annoyed that at the end of the appointment because she didn't even ask me about the products she was pushing, she just threw it on my bill in addition to the haircut. Never going back. Ridiculous costumer service with lack of talent or just a carelessness for the client's contentment. I know people say "you should've made her re-do the cut." I've only ever gotten brow waxes here, but I can't say I recommend it. The first time I went, I was pleased with the result, so I bought the "buy five brow waxes now for a discounted price, use them later" plan. It was a great deal at the time, but I really regret that now because I have two more to use and I don't want to go here. There were two major issues with my brow wax today: 1) She ripped off some of my skin beneath my eyebrow, and 2) She didn't even remove all the hair from the space between my brows What am I paying you for if not to remove my monobrow?? This is the second time now I've had to go home and pluck stray hairs out myself. It's a good price, but you get what you pay for ... which is half-trained stylists. read more

Terrible experience as a first time customer. First, they called to cancel my appt then called back to say they could still see me at my scheduled appt time which I made them confirm before going to another salon and they said yes come in since the appt before me was a no show. I show up & spend about 10 min talking to the stylist about my hair coloring then she tells me "my no show actually just walked in so I need to start on her color". Their no show had walked in 40 minutes late!! Yet she wanted me to sit there and wait for that customer to get taken care of even though I showed up on time for my appt. She blamed it on the fact that we spent 10 min talking about my hair coloring but that is part of any new customer conversation whose hair you haven't done before. Extremely rude and inconsiderate of someone's time. I will never try going to them again. Very unprofessional. read more

I unfortunately did not have as great of an experience as some of the other reviewers on this board. I went to Sorella Hair Studio after reading some great reviews about their hair stylists for a simple layer touch up. I had a bad experience at a different salon last year which required me to cut off a lot of my hair to fix (I asked for a trim of my hair and ended up with layers that looked like the stylist cut straight across my hair and did not blend the layers in). When I got to Sorella, I explained to the hair stylist what had happened at the last salon and explained that I did not want that to happen again. I stressed to her that I wanted subtle layers and she said that she understood. When she got done with the cut and style, she showed me only the front which actually did not look bad. She kept asking me if I was okay with the style and seemed like she was rushing me out which I didn't understand at the time. When I got home, I looked at the back at my hair in the mirror and understood why she seemed nervous. Instead of the subtle layers I asked for, I got what looked like a bob on top of my long hair. I couldn't believe that a hair stylist would think that this is an acceptable hair style that anybody would ask for. As I was too upset when I got home to call the salon, my sister called for me. She was basically told by management that I would not receive my money back for ruining my hair and that I told the stylist that I wanted my hair cut like that. They wanted me to come back later that night when the girl who cut my hair wasn't there so that we could discuss ways to fix my hair. The stylist I talked to later that night was very professional and nice and felt bad that there wouldn't really be anyway to fix my hair besides cutting most of it off. She reimbursed my money and was willing to help me in any way to fix my hair including placing extensions (that I would pay for) in for free. I thought that was very nice and scheduled an appointment with her. A couple of days later, she had to call me to tell me that the management would not allow her to place extensions for free (even though it was her time that would be spent placing the extensions in). At this point, I was very frustrated with this salon and called the manager myself. I explained to her that I was disappointed in the salon overall and the way they treat their clients. She said she was sorry for the haircut but pretty much said that this haircut was what I asked for and that I got a free haircut out of this. She also said that they could not just put in extensions for free and that if I wanted extensions they would only put them in if I paid them. I explained to her also that I was frustrated that I had my hair cut by someone labeled as Fresh Talent. I was not told this ahead of time that my stylist was Fresh Talent even though on their website it says that you must request Fresh Talent. This was also shrugged off by management as she disagreed with me and said that that statement is not on the website. Overall, I have had a bad experience with Sorella Hair Studio. Everyone who sees my hair cannot believe that a stylist would cut my hair like that and a couple of people have changed their mind about going to Sorella. I now have to wait a few months for my hair to start to grow out before I can have it styled again. In the meantime, the only hairstyle I can put my hair in is in a ponytail and I can no longer wear it down as it looks awful. Very disappointing. If I could, I would not give this place any stars. read more

I just moved to Athens after spending 32 years in New York. The same person has done my hair for 17 years so I was very nervous to try someone new. I read some reviews and was referred by the staff of Sally beauty supply. I said a prayer and booked an appointment. The sweetest girl named Alyssa did my hair and she did an amazing job. She eased all my anxiety about a new hairdresser even though she told me she's only been licensed for less than two years. Absolutely amazing job. Was greeted upon walking in the door. This place is big, clean and open. A lot of space here!! Sarah and Shelly both worked on me and we're smiling and extremely friendly. They were constantly asking me if I was comfortable and they took their time explaining the process and the benefits of the all natural products they were using. How do I give negative stars? I went in to get a moderate hair cut. My hair was half way down my back (I'm a musician). I came out looking like I was in boot camp. During the cut I asked several times aren't you taking too much off. I was totally ignored. I am trying to be as nice as possible here about my recent experience at Sorella. The stylist/colorist WAS able to match my hair color exactly. We recently moved to Athens, GA and I did not have a regular hair salon here yet. However, this salon uses only Redken products. And the hair color they used here burned my scalp. Now, 10 days later, I look like I have the worst dandruff in the world and it's also (sorry to gross you out) oozing. So believe it or not I did not call to complain about this experience until today. Also, believe it or not, I was willing to give this salon another try! I called my old salon in Brooklyn and found out what color and brand they used on me (that never caused a problem with me. In fact, I've been getting my hair dyed this color for 21 years from a variety of salons without one problem previously). I asked them to order this product, a brand other than Redken, and guess what? They said they only work with Redken products. So they would rather lose my business than use a product that isn't Redken. I don't get it, why? Meanwhile, I called Redken itself to complain about this experience. They, for their part, did tell me to send them any out-of-pocket dermatologist bills so I could be reimbursed by Redken. What an experience. Meanwhile, I have a very important family wedding to go to at the end of the month and I don't know if my scalp will be healed in time for that event to touch up my roots. read more

I've NEVER been to such an unprofessional! DO NOT go to this PlACE! They said my extensions would last 4 months paid $249 and $ 744 day of and they lasted less than 2 months! The owner does NOT know how to treat clients! They also lied because clearly this salon does NOT know how to do extensions! I tried to follow up with owner to fix my hair extensions that lasted less than time stated & then was told the owner was in a business meetings all day, planning how to run her business and could not return my calls. Get a clue, if you don't have clients, you don't have a business! This is also a called teaching salon with many students. Save your money and go to the Beauty school and get your hair done there! Seems like all the students did all the work and honestly, they did a better job than the owner! This salon also way over charged me, it's ATHENS NOT BUCKHEAD!! The price I paid did NOT at all match the quality of work or talent. They will also double or triple book clients..I truly hope this business owner learns some business skills and how to treat clients, because her communication skills don't go past scissors, combs brushes and can you bring cash! I had a stylist, who has been cutting my hair for more than a year, cut my bangs 2 inches shorter than they ever have been in my life! My hair is curly so it is just a ball of frizz. Her response was, "I just can't please you today." (Like I spent all day complaining!). I've heard other stylists say the same thing. It's a tool they use to keep people from complaining.
