Came in to check in and since our Yurt was not quite ready we stayed to have lunch. The crust on this pot pie was incredible! The filing was a bit too salty for my preference all because I have high blood pressure and gotta watch out for my salt intake (booo). My husband loved his broccoli and cheddar pot pie. I couldn't take a pic of his since he was digging into the pie. We sat by a window and the scenery that window provided was gorgeous. Snow, icicles and trees so peaceful. read more

We stopped during a day where we were hiking and camping. Fantastic atmosphere. Bre was an excellent t waitress - recommended awesome dishes. Best smash burger I've had and I love In and Out. Side salad was perfect with a delicious creamy balsamic dressing. My hiker in crime had the Mushroom meatball sandwich - delicious! It had the perfect amount of cheese and sauce. The pups enjoyed a nice bowl of iced water - they were served before us ;-) we had to get them each an order of the Good Boy treats. Four paws rating from Lexi and Bella. We stayed the night at their yurt and heard great reviews for their beef stew so decided to stop by to try it ! I'm usually not a big beef stew person but me and hubby enjoyed it! We ended up having a very nice private anniversary dinner at Sorenson's. We were camping at the nearby resort campground and had booked a dinner reservation at Sorenson's. When we arrived, there was a signboard apologizing that there was a private event that day and that the restaurant would be closed. When we inquired at the hotel desk, they noted that they had one reservation they would honor that night, which was ours. The staff jumped into action and served our private meal out on the deck. We kept our meal choices rather simple, knowing that they were also catering a wedding at the same time. The Spinach Salad and the 88 Burger were both fantastic and reasonably priced. I will note that the menu does seem pretty fluid. What's listed online, distributed to camp guests and what is given at the restaurant are not the same. Overall it looks like they are slimming it down to their best sellers. There was a good selection for vegetarian and pescatarian eaters. Thanks to Tres and the rest of the staff for making sure our anniversary dinner was a great memory. read more

We we're staying at the resort for 2 nights and enjoyed dinner both nights at Sorenson's, not only because it's so convenient and welcomes our husky on the amazing outdoor enclosed patio but also because the menu is thoughtful and delicious. We have dined here before in the fall for dinner and drinks and always have enjoyed our visits with great service, food and ambience of this special place. This time with the addition of staying on site around the holidays, we had exceptionally created holiday cocktails and service for dinner both nights from Sophie. This place is a true gem. I was doing some hiking in the Sierras, and upon a recommendation of a ranger at Carson Pass, I drove down to Sorenson's to check out their great hamburger that she was raving about. And honestly, I have to agree with her. In my opinion, FWIW, it was one of the best hamburgers I've ever had in my life. they also have a nice outdoor patio, which was a pleasant place to sit and eat my food. They are definitely worth checking out if you're traveling and doing things along Highway 88 and want to avoid the summer crowds and hassle of driving into SLT. read more

What a nice place to eat as the quaking aspen leaves all turn a myriad of Fall colors...! After sightseeing in Hope Valley and up to Kirkwood, we decided to stop in remembering how good their food is. Tonight we split a humus and naan appetizer and each had a delicious 88 burger with side salad. The restaurant service is not super quick, but they're periodically stopping by to check in on things. The roadside restaurant is surrounded by small rental cabins amongst a beautiful grove of aspen trees, which this time of year were bright yellow, green and some tinges of red. Highly recommend the stop in if you're headed on 88 to or from Kirkwood, Tahoe or the Carson Valley. read more

One of my favorite things to do in October is to drive to Hope Valley and look at fall colors. I would always stop at Sorenson's cafe for their famous Beef Burgundy Stew and Berry Cobbler. I took some friends this year and was so excited to take them there for lunch. I was so disappointed and even apologized for taking them there. All of our food was lukewarm at best. They had the chicken pot pie and said there was very poor seasoning. The stew was watery and it was served in a low wide bowl. It had maybe a 1/2 inch of liquid in the bottom and was also cold. The flavor was nothing like the original recipe, and definitely not worth $35. I will not be going back, and that is sad. read more

We had breakfast here this morning and it was such a hidden gem!! We are staying in Kirkwood and there's not much in the way of restaurants over here. This was a quick drive from the cabin and the staff were so friendly and helpful. Refilling our coffee before we could even ask and making sure we were taken care of. Sorensen's Resort Cafe has long been a great spot for a delicious meal while, but that has all changed. The menu is now minuscule, the quality of the food is well below par, and the prices keep rising. While staying at Desolation Hotel - Hope Valley, there are not many choices when it comes to meals...and unfortunately Sorensen's no longer delivers. They do not serve breakfast. And the all day (12 noon to 8 pm) menu has very few selections. The best thing on the menu is by far the Bavarian pretzel starter. For entrees there is a BBQ pulled chicken sandwich (dry chicken that is not flavorful - skip it), hamburger (decent), chicken pot pie, and burgundy beef stew (skimpy portion with minimal meat and a very watered down broth). The long-standing dessert on the menu, berry cobbler, had a really good flavor, but unfortunately the biscuit was RAW in the middle. When this was brought to the attention of the server, she apologized, yet didn't bring a new one. Save yourself from disappointment and just skip Desolation Hotel - Hope Valley and Sorensen's Resort Cafe. read more

We frequently Maggie's like twice a month and love it. So we decided to give this place a try the other night. Server great! Food -100. The cauliflower was sitting in water and not charred at all like it said. The roasted veggies were steamed and not roasted at all and I add chicken which was two pieces. The bill with a tip was over $200 seems aggressive for food that's sitting in water at the bottom of my plate. Also $32 for roasted veggies and $12 for two slivers of chicken is crazy. read more

We sat outside and although is was a nice night outside the wood picnic tables were coated in dirt/sand so my pants got dirty and the table itself had the fine sand/dirt on it as well. The server was a nice young guy that was trying his best. His english was not the best but he was taking care of the whole outside dining himself so bartender, hostess, waiter and food expeditor. The worst thing was the food. My husband and I both got the lamb stew and it was watered down and hardly anything was in the bowl. My husband was still hungry and I was as well. The worst thing is the stew was $48 per bowl and we were still charged. I don't know how this business gets away with giving their customers nothing and still charging full price. We had an appetizer, which should have been our indication of the rest of the meal but it was supposed to be cheesy charred cauliflower and it was wet, water ridden cauliflower with a disgusting mystery cheese sauce. As I said we were still hungry so asked about dessert because we saw some other people get dessert and the waiter said all out. This is NOT a good place. They need to make MAJOR improvements. read more

We down to Sorensen's for lunch today and was super please with out meal. I got their spinach salad and soup of the day, it was a mushroom and barley, and both were delicious. My mom got the pesto chicken sandwich and we split the Käsespätzle which was my favorite thing we ate! They have a seasonal menu that the will be changing soon so come in and get these items before they're gone! The inside of the restaurant is really cute and clean and couldn't be in a prettier location and our server Amy was wonderful. The service was nearly nonexistent and the $25 hamburgers were like shoe leather. We had salads for our side dishes and those were minuscule. Food is absolutely horrible, and overpriced (frankly, the food is so bad that I'd have paid not to eat it, which is what I did). If I ever went to a restaurant and thought everything was either horribly made, or otherwise frozen or cheaply bought, it would've been this one. The people are warm and welcoming, and the atmosphere is quiet and pleasant. But here's more about the food: 1. Their "Classic Burgundy Stew" is watery, jelly-like, and it tastes horrible. In addition to that, given there were about 4 pieces of meat, which seems odd when it's priced at $29. 2. The rest of the food was more of the same. The desert which we were told is the "last one remaining", I wholeheartedly believe, was store-bought, and not from a bakery Surprised of this current 4.7 rating, but after scrolling around it looks like they might not be authentic. I hate to leave negative feedback, I left this note about the food being horrible with one of the staff members since the owner was not there, I hope they try to make a real change. read more

Went here for dinner two weeks ago. No reservations just a spur of the moment decision. Prices were a little high but I have to tell you, it wasn't disappointing. I had the venison dish,buddy had the burger wife's had the soup and some sort of crab dish. Food was spot on, waitress was on her game. The waitress recommended desert, I do believe it was a berry cobbler and it was spot on. If you haven't been here you might want to take a drive out and try it. I've lived in Lake Tahoe all of my life and have driven past this place many times and today I stopped in to take a look and I was beyond surprised. The cabins are absolutely beautiful and the food and service is amazing. It is in a great location as well with all of the pretty trees all around.
