To be fair, no one comes here expecting decent food. You come here hungry after skiing all morning,…read moreso anything edible will do. I ordered the pesto chicken sando. It was okay, although the buns were a bit mushy and parts of the chicken were dry. The fries weren't crispy and didn't really taste like anything. For the quality, the sando was definitely overpriced. My partner said his burger wasn't that great either. But we left feeling full and recharged, so I guess there's that!

We were seated almost immediately and had a very friendly hostess and server. As a group we ordered: Nachos with beef: 5/5 yes I'm sure they get the guac and cheese premade somewhere but the portion was generous, the spice level was decent, and nachos were flavorful. Pesto chicken sliders: 5/5 best thing we ordered. Fish and chips: 4/5 run of the mill fish and chips. The breading was a little thick and the fish wasn't particularly tender but it was alright. I usually feel like places don't provide enough tartar sauce but here I had sauce left over Bloody Mary: 5/5 I don't like blood Marys and I enjoyed this one which might indicate that it wasn't good but I really liked it. My husband said it was "more vegetal than usual" and I think I don't like the overwhelming tomato taste of a usual Bloody Mary so his observation makes sense Mulled wine: 4/5 pleasantly warm and interesting in flavor. Felt comforting after skiing If this was a random restaurant in the Bay Area this review would look very different but I'm comparing it to usual fare at ski resorts; to sit down to such a nice, filling, hot meal while wearing my ski boots was such a happy time, all three of us were thrilled.

Stonefly Restaurant in Markleeville is the best dining in the Carson Valley area period stop. It's…read morea true gem that feels like it could (and should) have a Michelin star. We've been coming here for years and even have known some of the staff since high school....! What makes Stonefly so special is that whether you're a longtime local or a first-time visitor, the Saletti family and their incredible team treat you like family from the moment you arrive. The service is always warm, attentive, and genuinely joyful. These are some of the sweetest, most talented people you'll ever meet in a restaurant. We came to celebrate the second night of my wife's birthday weekend (LOL) and, as usual, started with a beautiful progression of appetizers. The macadamia nut and Parmesan crusted calamari, sautéed and finished with that bright, silky lemon beurre blanc, is our favorite...! Perfectly crisp, tender, and so flavorful that we ordered a second round...! We also loved the fresh steamed clams and the expertly seared ahi tuna, artfully presented with pickled onions and crisp ginger and a large lump of wasabi and an amazing dipping sauce. Every dish showcases fresh ingredients and masterful wood-fired technique with that perfect Northern Nevada-Italian fusion. With such outstanding starters, we happily skipped a main to save room for dessert and what a decision that was....! As we finished our second calamari, the entire team: owner Faith Saletti and her wonderful staff gathered around our table to sing a lively, heartfelt "Happy Birthday" to my wife. It was one of those rare, magical moments that feels completely genuine and unforgettable. Her chocolate cake was a rich, decadent masterpiece: moist, intensely flavorful, and elegantly plated with whipped cream and a delicate edible flower. My coconut cake was ethereally light and fluffy, with tender layers, toasted coconut, and cloud-like whipped cream, finished with a beautiful floral garnish. Both desserts, made with obvious love by Faith, were absolutely divine. Stonefly isn't just a restaurant, it's a warm, soulful experience in the heart of the Sierra Nevada. The food is outstanding, the hospitality is world-class, and the setting on the charming patio is relaxed and inviting. As locals who have enjoyed many meals here, we can confidently say it's worth every visit. Whether you live nearby or are just passing through the Lake Tahoe area, don't miss it. We'll keep coming back for special occasions and ordinary ones alike. Five enthusiastic stars and our highest recommendation. Thank you, Stonefly, for another wonderful evening!

This place has been on our list for at least a couple years, and we finally worked up the incentive to take the scenic drive to Markleeville. As we decided just a few days before, our reservation choices were 4:30 at a Table or 6 PM at the bar. We reserved the 4:30 spot and were seated at a nice table as one of the first parties inside the door. In the hour and a half (ish) that were here, the place filled up nicely, even witnessing a family of 3 being turned away for lack of a reservation. We both enjoyed the happy energy, the engaging staff and patrons, and our view into the kitchen. Our experience was fabulous, with the only "opportunity for improvement" being that Gayle's rack of lamb was just slightly overcooked (for her taste). We also left thinking that it would be great to come back in the summer when the patio was open. I would describe the indoor space of Stonefly being cozy, warm, and welcoming, with service that matched. I chose the 5 ounce filet (with Gorgonzola), mashed potatoes and roasted vegetables. We both enjoyed our choices, plus the prosciutto wrapped asparagus spears as an appetizer, a couple nice glasses of wine, and of course the carrot cake with a candle and song at the end. In fact, we took the cake home for later as we were really full after a meal like that. I'm sure we'll be back and with friends and/or family. Stonefly's limited hours and restaurant space will require a little extra well worth it planning. And short of maybe the Caples Lake Resort, there's really nothing in the immediate area that compares.

They kept them coming once we asked, and they were delicious every time. But we had to keep asking, and at one point, we almost gave up. That said, the service was pretty underwhelming, especially since the restaurant wasn't busy. We waited close to 20 minutes before getting our first drinks, even water. We had noted a special occasion on our reservation, but there wasn't really anything that made it feel acknowledged or special. We shared the skillet, and unfortunately it was extremely soggy. We literally poured liquid out of it multiple times. On the flip side, the lemon poppyseed waffle was a solid 10/10 and definitely the standout food item for us. I'm giving 3 stars because there's clearly potential here. The drinks were great, the waffle was amazing, and I do think this place could easily be a 5-star experience with more attentive service and a little more consistency in the kitchen. We'll definitely give it another try.
