He said that it would be too dangerous to try and re-light the pilot light of the 5 year old water heater and that it would be safer for me to hire him to dispose of the old one, pick up and install a new one. He gave me a quote of $2600. Another plumber referred by a friend came and took a look after and safely assessed that the water heater was still working and safe to use and he re-lit the pilot light for me for $75. The other plumber actually laughed out loud when I told him the estimate that Adam gave me. He could not believe that I was given an estimate of $1900 for labor to install a 50 gallon water heater that cost about $750. Always comparison shop, ALWAYS.
