Soul Food Bowl
LaMecia M.

Overall: Great place with easy access in Downtown. Would return and try some other things out on the menu during future visits to Columbus. Food: I ordered the Bourbon Chicken for my companion and the Soul Food Bowl for myself. Despite being packaged together - nothing overpowered other items, each thing had a distinct taste. The chicken was juicy, the greens had a good flavor and the mac and cheese met expectations. If I had any complaints, it would be that the yams were overcooked (there was some noticeable burnt coloring but not much). This met my expectations and I honestly was full for hours after finishing my bowl (I'd had a light dinner the evening before and no breakfast so I was hungry by the time we ordered our lunch). My companion loved his meal. They also have great portion sizes for the price. Service: Quick interaction with the server to pick up my to-go order. It was ready when I arrived and it was correct I appreciate that they did accommodate my request to have greens instead of rice for the Bourbon chicken bowl.

Pork chops, greens, Mac and cheese

First time flyers at this joint so here it is. We ordered pork chops, Mac and cheese with greens also we got Blackened chicken pasta. Pork chops had no soul just over cooked and tough. Greens were too salty for us and the Mac and cheese was mid. As for the Blackened chicken pasta. Star of the show. Noodles were tender with good flavor and the chicken was cooked right with great flavor. I am going to order it again. The next time we visit we will try other options.

I highly recommend Soul 2 Go on E. Lynn St in Columbus, Ohio. I love the food and atmosphere of this location. There is always great music there! The service is good and the food is delicious. I have a new favorite meal that I order and it is the lamb chop dinner with asparagus and macaroni and cheese or mashed potatoes. Chef William is the best! Visit and enjoy!!

Soul 2 Go was a vibe! We enjoyed the music, the service and most importantly the food! I had the Blackened Chicken Pasta and added Shrimp to it, it was flavor filled and left me feeling stuffed. It was so good!! The wings were also seasoned and fried to perfection . Everyone at the table loved their meals. I'd definitely recommend stopping through if you're in the area.

First time in Columbus to participate in the Cap City Half Marathon brought me to the Renaissance Downtown hotel. After checking in to the hotel, myself and a few other ladies were famished and looking for good food. I opened the Yelp app and Soul 2 Go was at the top of the lunch nearby search. Even better, it was literally located across the street from the hotel a few feet down this alley type side street. We arrived at a great time because about 20 minutes after being seated, a crowd of people were filing in so we would have had a wait. I ordered the Soul Food Sampler which consisted of small but perfectly sized portions of Mac and cheese, sweet potatoes, collard greens, and 3 chicken wings pieces. I washed it down with a yummy cocktail. I do not remember the name and I did not take a picture of the drink menu but it's one of their fun named cocktails. We didn't feel rushed to exit the table once we finished our food but we were mindful of people waiting for a seat. Apparently word got out about this restaurant to other runners because the next day we attempted to go back for dinner and there was a crowd of people with an estimated wait of an hour and a half to an hour and 45 minutes. Whoah! Definitely a restaurant I would visit again. Myself and another diner had the Soul Food Sample and the third person had the shrimp and grits and she loved it (see added picture).

Another solid spot for lunch in Downtown Columbus. Staff was super friendly and patient. It's a cool vibe inside but got a bit loud which made conversation difficult. The food was really good. My lemon chicken dish was very tasty, but heavily salted. Fun spot that I'd recommend.

My first experience is to via door dash and it was great. I didnt care that the fish was on top of the spaghetti but they do forewarn you that that's how it comes. Regardless great flavor for both items so when they opened up a restaurant, I had to try them. Stopped on a whim with friends who requested drinks and a bite, pref. Soulfood. Drinks * Simply soul- 4/5 * Soul ties- 4.5 not too strong or too sweet. Super good overall would recommend. * Soul brotha- 3/5. A bit confusing. Too sweet for a bourbon drink for my taste. * Honey soul cornbread- delicious but a bit Heavy because it's greasy from being fried. * Soul food sampler- great way to try a little bit of everything. Greens were cooked perfectly. Love that they add onion and tomato, could use a bit more seasoning. Macaroni- chefs kiss. Sweet potatoes very good not super syrupy/running which i appreciate- good flavor. Chicken was good, unbearable but good fry/ breading. * Hot sauce bottles didn't work, had to take the cap off. * Hostess was super sweet, called to hold seats on my way from Dublin and she was able to accommodate me and remembered me when I came in. Overall, great soul food that's reasonably priced. Love the ambiance and vibe- good art work, clean, good music. If you like soul food support them, would love to see them around for the foreseeable future. I want to return when they're doing karaoke, live music or other events. The space is small so I recommend reservations during busy days/ times.

My husband and I tried this restaurant for the first time on a Friday at 3 pm. The hosts were very friendly and sat us immediately. Our servers name was Britney. The restaurant has a very nice set up and cool art and music and was perfectly clean inside. I had the jerk chicken pasta, red beans and rice, mac and cheese, and cornbread. I was very very happy w this meal. It's literally the best jerk chicken I've had since I've been up north. My husband had the fried fish and he said it was the best he's ever had. Willie is an amazing chef. I got the pound cake to go and it's was good also. I will definately return and recommend. Really want to try the salmon pasta. The servers worked as a team and the vibes were good.

Blackened Chicken Pasta was amazing! Juicy chicken and wonderful depth of flavor in the pasta. Highly recommend!

Found this place on Yelp due to the good rating and the pics made the food look tasty. It didn't disappoint. I ordered wings as an appetizer and they were seasoned nice and cooked perfect. Blackened chicken pasta as my main and the chicken was juicy and both the chicken and pasta has wonderful depth of flavor. Ask for Ashley to be your waitress. Very nice and attentive. They had open mic night which add to the cool vibe of this home run restaurant.

MAKE RESERVATIONS before you decide to go or take a real risk of not being able dine here, or worse having a long wait. * The place is intimate. There is a nice size bar and several movable table and chairs. Now for the food....A-OK. Nothing spectacular and mostly what you can easily make at home, if you cook. There were 5 of us and we all agreed on that point. Actually the smothered pork chops were overcooked, easy to do if you don't know how to cook. That shouldn't have been the case here. Served with a little rice. I do think the sweet potatoes are from a can. *shrug* IMHO the cornbread was probably the most noteworthy item. Another thing to note, the service was top notch. Even during a full house! Glad we tried it, but not in a rush to come back and that's too bad. We want to support minority owned businesses. * made reservations through YELP. Must have credit card and $20 per person cancellation fee. :-/

First time here and my food was delicious once I FINALLY got it. I placed a to go order, while sitting at the bar, and it took almost an hour for me to get it. The staff appeared confused and disorganized. Jericka and Dallas were kind and engaging, but otherwise there was barely a hello. Add to that the fact that the air conditioning is broken, and has been for the entire summer, according to an employee. It was hot and stuffy in there. In this economy knowing how to handle business and treat patrons is crucial!

I was in Columbus for work and got in around 8pm, which meant dinner options downtown were pretty limited. I almost settled for a steakhouse about to close, but decided to take a quick walk around the block first. Just when I thought I was out of luck, I found Soul To Go on Yelp and followed the walking directions. That said, I was skeptical when they led me down an alley. To my surprise, there it was, tucked away and totally worth the find. The service was some of the best I've had in a long time, and the food was delicious. If you're in Columbus and craving jerk or soul food, definitely check out this hidden gem and BoB.

LOVED the food at Kay's, a food stall located inside the Saraga market on S. Hamilton Rd. Ms. Kay,…read morethe owner, is friendly and goes above and beyond to provide excellent service. I have to admit that ever since moving to Columbus 6 years ago, I've felt that great soul food is hard to come by here, but hers is definitely the exception! Came on a Sunday afternoon and tried the stuffed salmon combo. You are allowed to pick how many sides you want, and the price increases accordingly. I opted for mac n cheese and collard greens, and the greens were some of the best I've ever tried at a restaurant. Also was given a huge portion well worth the price. She was kind enough to let me sample her turkey and dressing which were delicious too. I'll definitely be back!

After a really rough day on the lanes, we were hongry (yes, I spelled that correctly) and wanted soul food. The soul food place we'd visited the last time we were in Columbus closes at 6pm. It's a little after 7. So trusting my fellow Yelpers, I searched out soul food and Kays was very near our hotel. They, the Yelpers, as usual, got it right. Those of you who know us, know that we go in hard. Especially when the place has good customer service reviews. Our fellow Yelpers did not lie. The place is a kitchen staff by Kay herself and a young lady whom I'm assuming is her daughter? Nonetheless, her booming personality and jovial demeanor made us not care about what was cooking in her kitchen! We wanted it. The hand written flipboard menu was nothing less than charming. Made me feel like I was at grandma's where she put a note on the refrigerator saying this is what's for dinner. Don't spoil your appetite before then. Not an expansive daily special menu, which was cool, because when you haven't eaten since breakfast, you tend to go hog wild at the mere thought of food, and typically can't settle on anything. Pimp had pork chops, rice and gravy, and greens. I had the catfish and macaroni and cheese. When I say the silence was palpable when Pimp started chomping that chop ... He completely left the building. Him, pork chops, rice and gravy were in a different ethosphere. He did wish there was more gravy though. Greens were tender and well seasoned. My catfish was rolled with hands that had done family reunion fish frys for a long time. Well seasoned, coated and fried to perfection. The macaroni and cheese had the creamy, stringiness that you like to play with before you fly it into your mouth. It definitely had personality. But the coup de grace was indeed the service. I am completely angry, because we need to eat in this woman's kitchen at least once a month, and Columbus is 3 1/2 hours away from Detroit! The Saraga International Market is interesting in and of itself, but I'll post a different review on that. Kudos Ms. Kay. We're looking forward to them oxtails on our way home tomorrow and to many visits in the future.

Tiny, carryout only, though there are a couple of tables to sit while you wait or maybe to eat a quick lunch. Super friendly staff. Fairly short menu; all the good stuff. I wasn't famished and didn't want to wait for chicken or fish, so I got an assortment of sides thinking that would be quicker. They fried up the okra right then, though, and had a steady stream of pickup orders coming through the door, so it still took 10-15 minutes. It was okay, though, smelling the amazing scents coming from the kitchen, talking to the staff and customers. I hadn't noticed they have ribs (just a picture, not on the menu) so I might've ordered those. Oh well. $20 I think, or they do combos with sides or fish and sides. Anyway. I got fried okra, and it was a big portion and absolutely amazing. No need for any sauces, tasty on its own. Perfectly crisp. Baked beans: my style, sauce so thick you can eat them with a fork. Slightly sweet, mostly savory, very good. Greens (collards) with turkey: outstanding. Tender but not floppy, nicely seasoned. Cornbread: soft, sweet, crumbly, topped with butter. Yum. Geechee rice: seasoned, bacon and sausage, very good. And black-eyed pea salad. I like black-eyed peas but had never had them in a salad. These were great: plump, with bits of tomato and cucumber and onion, in a vinegary dressing. Again, yum. Enough food for two meals. They gave me the side plate special, three sides and cornbread, which helped with the price. I was headed home and not thirsty so I didn't get a drink, but based on conversations with other customers I missed out on the lemonade and sweet tea. I'll be back for those and maybe a rib-fish combo. And to try the mac. Get here if you can!

Pretty busy at lunchtime, a few dine in and some carryout. Served cafeteria style, so you can see what you want, and drool over it. Well, there's a clear shield, but you know what I mean. I got smothered pork chops, since I hadn't had them forever. Meaty, tender, covered in gravy and onions. So so good, especially as comfort food on a cold day. You can also get them fried. Plenty of other things on the menu looked good. And all of the sides sounded good. I ended up getting one that was a mix of cabbage and greens, instead of getting the two separately, so that gave me space for another side. I went with mac & cheese. Sweetie's mom's mac is the best in the world. I'm not kidding. This is not quite that good, but is a very good homemade version, loaded with cheese, and baked in a big pan. Service was excellent. Prices are a bit steep, but good for the quantity and quality. Canned pop. Cheap plasticware. I was leery, but the pork chops were so tender that even a plastic knife pulled them apart easily. Hardly needed it. The place is not fancy inside. Old, but clean, a few booths and tables. You're there for the food, not the decor. Or, come in and pick it up and take it home. And have better silverware... I will definitely be back. I loved what I got, and was enticed by some of the other things.
