Sounded good on a cold day, and I was over this way. I've been meaning to come for a while, but it's just not on my usual route. Turn in at the light, and be careful about which driveway you pick- I think it's the second driveway, near a daycare, and it winds around back to the restaurant. You can see the place from James. Pretty busy at lunchtime, a few dine in and some carryout. Served cafeteria style, so you can see what you want, and drool over it. Well, there's a clear shield, but you know what I mean. I got smothered pork chops, since I hadn't had them forever. Meaty, tender, covered in gravy and onions. So so good, especially as comfort food on a cold day. You can also get them fried. Plenty of other things on the menu looked good. And all of the sides sounded good. I ended up getting one that was a mix of cabbage and greens, instead of getting the two separately, so that gave me space for another side. I went with mac & cheese. Sweetie's mom's mac is the best in the world. I'm not kidding. This is not quite that good, but is a very good homemade version, loaded with cheese, and baked in a big pan. Service was excellent. Prices are a bit steep, but good for the quantity and quality. Canned pop. Cheap plasticware. I was leery, but the pork chops were so tender that even a plastic knife pulled them apart easily. Hardly needed it. The place is not fancy inside. Old, but clean, a few booths and tables. You're there for the food, not the decor. Or, come in and pick it up and take it home. Very dated.... The food is in a cafeteria setup food on display everything looked tasty. The server/cashier seem overwhelmed.... I ended up getting the catfish dinner with mac and cheese with greens it was delicious the catfish hot must've been made to order it was piping hot!! My friend had the the smothered pork chops rice and macaroni I literally saw the meat slide off the bone. He claim that was the tastiest smothered pork chops he ever ate.... I wanna give this place 5 stars but the floors are dirty and I don't wanna even begin on that bathroom if I had used the bathroom first I wouldn't have ate their at all!! I've been wanting to check this place out for a while, they're just far from where I live and it's to go only still. Business is located in the same building as a church, plenty of parking. It was really fast to get my food and the employees were nice. Most importantly though, the food was great. The chicken dinner was bone in breast and two wings. Wonderful flavor and juicy. Some places have the "SPOT" which is a place that you always go to and you'll never be disappointed with the food ever. For example in the ATL our spot is K&K Soulfood. Columbus doesn't have too many "spots" so hopefully we found one with this place. The taste, flavor, execution of dishes, and price point were all solid. I truly wanted to like this place...but I didnt. I'm in Columbus for a spell and wanted some "soul food". I didnt have much on my mind as far as what I wanted...so off I go. Now dont get me wrong the place is super clean and the staff.. very very nice. Now down to the food- I walk in and see that they have bar-b-que pig feet!! I thought I was in heaven...NOT So for 12.99 I'm thinking 2 trotters and 2 sides. NOT at all...the guy preparing my food asked the lady in the register how many pig feet do I get...she replied 1!! Just 1...smh...a pack of pigfeet cost $3 -5 dollars with at least 2 trotters at the grocery stores where I live. The sides portion was a complete joke...imagine a half of a cup measuring spoon...thats how much I got in corn and collards. This place will not see my coins again. I'm disappointed with this place! I ordered smothered pork chops and it wasn't what I expected considering it wasn't fried. Cabbage and greens mixed and baked beans. My cabbage portion was the stump and it was dirty! There were a lot of collard stems and my cornbread looked like a cookie! The portions are small for the$$. Hands down some of the best food I've had in Columbus ! Not to mention it's Black owned ! The Yams are the best. They are sweet, mushy but firm enough to know they're cooked thoroughly, and again, really sweet. The Yams + Mac combo is undefeated. The macaroni always is cheesy and the food is typically always fresh. The chicken is pretty good too. I usually eat it without any condiments. Which I'm not used to, but their chicken is that good. Whatever batter they use for the chicken is great. The catfish was also pretty good, same can be said for the batter used on the catfish. I haven't been disappointed none of the times that I have come here. The soul food cup deserves its own mini paragraph because that's the highlight of the restaurant. All of my favorite sides packed into a cup ! For $6 ! And it will get you full too. Macaroni at the top, yams up under that, greens up under that with everything on top of cornbread ! I was okay. Service was nice, workers and kitchen staff were approachable and polite. Came around 2pm on Sunday to sample food in case I we wanted to order some for an upcoming event. Unfortunately I came at a bad time where they were at the end of most pans of the food or were out. I was told more food was still cooking but they cldnt give an eta on the new food. We had meatloaf. If anyone has a preference they make the kind with red sauce on top, I'm more of a brown gravy on meatloaf gal; it was tasty and a nice portion. So many of the sides were gone that we were hoping to try. I ended it up getting rice with gravy (of all things) with a side of cabbage. The rice was literally plain white rice and the gravy although thick enough was too translucent to be relevant. The gravy resembled Hines -the kind in the jar at the grocery store, or if coming from someone's kitchen it has too little ingredients with a lot or cornstarch as filler/thickener, not made from a roux. I tried the greens- both greens and cabbage were pretty tangy and lil salty but it's a matter of preference -my sis liked them. We rolled the dice ordered a pan of mac and cheese for a gathering; it was $60 can't really mess up Mac &cheese. We ordered it the day before our gathering to be assembled but not baked so we could just put it in the oven an hr before our event -also not to risk any mix ups or mess ups with the order. I like that they offer this service. Sunday seems like it would be busy and they should plan accordingly, don't try to sell people the end of the pan old dried food. I showed up at 4:53pm for my mac & cheese that was to be picked up later that week at 5pm. The lady from the kitchen leaned out the door and told me I was too early and she was still working on it. I waited about 20mins for an order placed 4days prior. I was offered a soda while I waited. The Mac was okay. But again plan accordingly to ensure you have food when you are supposed to have it. As this was my first visit, I had no idea what to expect. But this visit was a first in my life! The food here actually took me back to my childhood. I got the cube steak with gravy & onions, mashed potatoes & gravy, and green beans. And of course, the plate was clean when I left! Everything was full of flavor and well portioned. Being from the Chicago area, my weakness has always been for Soul and Mexican food, seeing as how my neighborhood was predominantly Black and Latino. As a result, no matter where I go, I tend to seek these two types out before anything else. Today's craving was for Soul food. LaGlory Cafe is located south of the airport on Alleghany, off of James Road.  I came here at the recommendation of several co-workers who keep me "in the know" of good Soul Food Restaurants. The cafe is physically connected to Christ Cathedral Church and, by its title, you already get the sense that there will be a good amount of love attached to your service.  My first experience with a church-based cafe was back in Tallahasse and the service was so awesome that I gave them my business repeatedly, just because of the treatment of their customers. The moment that I walked in, I got that same sense and already felt good about coming in.  The welcome came from a sweet lady named, Erica, who also took my order.  I ordered the fried porkchop dinner with collard greens and mashed potatoes.  They were out of the greens, which was fine, as I'm a big fan of cabbage (especially with soul food, as long as it's accompanied by corn bread - which was included in the meal).  She noted that the fried pork chops would take approximately 20 minutes to prepare and offered smothered pork chops as an alternative.  I was fine with the wait and thanked her for her honesty.  Since I knew It'd be a moment before eating, I asked for a fried chicken thigh, ahead of my order to serve as an appetizer.  Yeah, I do things like that.  That's what happens when you're a big eater. I was tempted to purchase some of the cake I saw at the register, which is very difficult to resist.  It looked soooo good.  I decided to stick with my "appetizer", which Erica was kind enough to bring out to me.  After I got my dish, I got up to grab some utensils, only to almost bump into Erica around the corner, who was already taking care of me.  I apologized and told her what I was going after and she told me that she was going to take good care of me and that I was already in trouble for getting up to get something for myself. She's too sweet... It's not a large dining area, but there's enough to fit 7 or 8 small groups and 3 couples, comfortably. Maybe it was the fact that I was reading on my tablet or perhaps the food came ahead of schedule.  In any event, it didn't seem to take long at all.  Erica brought me this scrumptious looking plate with two pork chops (I thought it would only be one) with a nice portion of mash potatoes, golden cornbread and juicy cabbage. Thankfully, the pork chops were not heavily seasoned, which made it possible to better appreciate that fried texture.  It was delicious.  That cornbread went very well with the cabbage, which was not too crunchy or too soft.  In fact, it had a slight lemony kick to it that was different, but great.  I've grown to prefer turkey gravy on my potatoes, but the beef gravy was just right, so no problems there, either. Erica checked on me several times, despite the steady flow of customers, which I really appreciated and I didn't hesitate to tell her. When I left, I went back to thank her for a wonderful experience and promised to be back soon.  I meant it. Was part of a group that visited this restaurant last Thursday (March 23, 2023). The place was great and I have no complaints about my food at all. Everything was very tasty. My brother got sick on Friday morning and we're assuming that it was food poisoning. The only thing he had that the rest of us didn't was the mac & cheese. I am from Houston and I travel a lot for work. I have not been successful with soul food until I got here. The servers and the cashier were really nice. The fried chicken was fresh and crispy and the Mac and cheese was baked with real cheese. The greens were flavorful and the yams had just enough sweetness. It tastes like Grandma's Sunday meal straight out the kitchen only thing sometimes the Mac and cheese chief and sometimes be a little too dry or over baked and the yams sometimes be on point and sometimes you can tell it hasn't been baked long enough for the sauce to thicken other than that everything is Delicious and they make chitterlings even tho I don't like them But, They have great customer service they are a really sweet generous and great family that respects their customers. This is probably the best soul food I've ever had. I intended to order ribs, but those are only available on Sunday. Instead I got fried chicken and smothered pork chops. The gravy was so delicious I could drink it by itself. The chops were juicy, tender, and flavorful. Chicken was the same with crispy skins. My sides were yams, greens, Mac and cheese, and cabbage - all cooked perfectly. I'm not from around here, but I'll make the long drive for more food from here. When traveling I always seek out local black owned restaurants. This week my business travel brought me to the city of Columbus, Ohio. I found La Glory through a Google and yelp search. It did not disappoint. I was greeted and served Dominic was fantastic and ensured everything was perfect. My disappointment was that I came with chicken and waffles on the brain. And at 11 am I was in a breakfast kind of mood. But they I longer offered breakfast. But I wanted to experience a meal just because I had made the journey in route to the airport. Food was piping hot and fresh. The fried chicken is probably the best that I've ever had that wasn't made at home. The place is clean and I absolutely loved the chalkboard menu and story told in the art displays. I did get banana pudding cake which I'm excited to eat later today! I saw some other reviews and my recommendation is that you go for breakfast or brunch. I would order the chicken and waffle. They serve it all day, so you really could get it for dinner as well. I can't speak for the rest of the food, but the chicken and waffle were AMAZING. I love that the chicken was boneless first of all because I have had this with wings and it's not as good. The chicken was moist on the inside and breaded and crispy on the outside. They put this tangy sauce on it and I agree with the person who recommended asking for extra of this sauce, it was great! The waffle was cooked perfectly and the combination of the two together was a perfect union. The eggs and potatoes were great and I got them mostly because I wanted eggs. I ended up taking half of my food home and I could not believe how well-priced that whole meal was! To top everything off, that staff is so nice.
