Delicious breakfasts that do take a few minutes to prepare. Value is not bad, ambiance is stylish and classy, although they always have a few random things on the video wall in the mornings. Not quite sure how I feel about the breakfast sandwich but everything else was very good, and the overnight oats are rich with peanut butter and bananas. Steak and eggs use a very decent quality steak, and the smoked chicken hash is quite stylish. Honestly for the classics, pancakes and also the classic American breakfast (Simply Eggs) are great. If you are a frequent customer with Marriott you may be able to get breakfast for free (currently a $40 credit for Marriott Platinum's and above as of this review) which absolutely makes it worth it, and of this review, 9 of the 10 breakfast items use less than half the credit, so two people could theoretically be covered read more

I really enjoyed my experience at Soul at The Joseph. I came down for breakfast and had a Illy coffee and eggs with brioche toast with sides of bacon and pork sausage. I also had a small fruit cup. Everything was very well prepared and delicious. Service staff were attentive and helpful. The café is in the lobby with a bar and seating area with high top tables. It's an open flow concept and was comfortable and inviting. I really enjoyed my meal and would gladly come back the next time. I stay at The Joseph. read more

I had a Yelp event in the Short North, and it just so happen to be 614's Burger & Beer Week, so we decided to grab dinner downtown before the event. I've been to Soul at The Joseph once before, just for drinks however. Their special burger sounded enticing, and our event was starting just around the corner, two birds/one stone. Wanted to comment on the layout of Soul. Not my favorite in town. There's no tables out in the lobby, which I felt didn't match; doesn't make me want to stay, eat, visit, spend money here. They want to push the posh vibes of "a cool, hip, contemporary hotel, and oh yeah, ps, we have food"? Not sure. The bar area is rather disappointing, imo. The first half of the seats get the natural sunlight and an open-views concept, but the back half of the bar is closed off by a wall and doesn't get any natural light; it's a rather dark area compared to everywhere else in the lobby. Strange and not exactly inviting. Their $6 offering was The Soul Burger: bacon, manchego, lettuce, pickled zucchini, lemon and garlic aioli. Didn't want the bun, asked to be wrapped in lettuce. The meat was juicy, but I couldn't taste any of the distinct components, it just felt like I was chewing for sustenance not enjoyment. The fries were good, slightly warm (down-grade), but decent flavor. Point: The burger matched the price; I was expecting more seasonings/flavor umph, but it was not present. Would I come back here? Solo, no. With friends? I'd push for other options, but if nothing else is picked, I suppppppose....? read more

Restaurant Week! Took advantage of a restaurant week promo going on and got a good 3 course meal for $25: Arugula Salad, Lobster Roll w/fries, & Carrot Cake. Wasn't a fan of the salad personally, Lobster roll was good, but the slaw they mixed in with the meat distracted from its flavor (it was also served cold), the carrot cake was surprisingly good. I have to say this is one of the nicest establishments that I have visited. The Soul is a bar counter but classy and the food is classy and flavorful. I stopped in during burger week and will be back. The burger had the right amount of beef to bun, the flavor of beer was in every bite. I could tell it was of excellent quality. I love that they do bourbon tasting on Friday. Every Friday. You don't need a reservation. The bartender was super engaging and knowledgeable about the bourbons featured, their history and offered small tricks and tips for the best tasting experience. Will definitely be back again. read more

The bartender was very friendly and since I'm typically not used to dining alone, she made my evening enjoyable. The music wasn't too loud, the lights were perfect and the service was top notch. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and would definitely come visit again. Attended the whiskey on high tasting. Got to experience a flight of Angel's envy whiskey. A delicous private experience, hosted by the establishments general manager Kyle. This is a bar in the lobby of the Le Meridian Hotel. Fairly small place with a huge TV monitor for sports viewing. The selection of wine and cocktails is great. The bar menu is limited, but the food is great. Had a glass of red-wine and the burger (cooked to order and very tasty). The waitress​ was very friendly and knowledgeable about the food and wine. Wow. My wife and I came here for 614 Burger Week. We ordered the cheese curds and two burgers. The cheese curds were amazing--somehow they were chewy, and stretchy, and fluffy all at once, and a little bit spicy somehow. If you like mozzarella sticks, or cheese curds, or any kind of deep fried fat, you will love these, I promise. But the main attraction was the burger. ...Look, I'm a chubby guy with a beard. I've had my fair share of burgers, and probably several other peoples' shares, too. Seriously, if you've never met me, and you saw me on the street, you'd immediately know that I have plenty of opinions about cheeseburgers. And with that in mind, it should mean something that I'm telling you that this might be about the 5th best burger I've ever eaten (out of a easily a couple thousand). And if that's not enough, my hot, skinny, tattooed wife also said this was about the 5th best burger she's ever had. I can't speak for the rest of the menu, but it's worth a trip here for the burger alone. -- Order it medium. Love it. Thank me later. Note: Since we ordered two cheeseburgers and an appetizer of deep fried cheese, we did both order cucumber/tomato salads as a side. It was fine as a side; a nice break from all of the richness and fat we ate. And, admittedly, the fries that the people next to us ordered didn't look very good. So maybe think about a side other than fries. We will remember these burgers (and the really nice bartender) for a long time. (In case you're wondering, the other best burgers in the general area are at Smith & Wollensky at Easton, and Crabill's in Urbana. I live close to the Soul at The Joseph hotel and absolutely love it! It is one of my most favorite spots for a nice quiet, but inviting atmosphere. If you're looking for a chill spot to relax from the chaos at some other bars, this is the place to go. The bartenders are extremely friendly - I have never had a bad experience! Also, they have a large array of T.V. screens that plays some interesting content (including football games on game day). It's worth paying a visit if you're in the area! read more

The 10 dollar Sunday burger and brew special sounded promising but in reality was the biggest waste of time. We sat at a corner table in the back with a view of the restaurant. One of the only couples ordering food, it couldn't have been that the staff was busy. The server very awkwardly took our order, not giving us time to peruse the menu or even go through the draft list. He had to come back 3 different times to ask how we liked our burger, what side we wanted and what beer. He appeared flustered and like he had never taken an order before, not stopping to ask how we were doing, or if we wanted anything else to drink. My date and I then proceeded to wait for over an hour for our food, with no explanation or apology from the staff. Nobody stopped by to ask how we were doing during this time. Finally after getting up to inquire about the status of our meal they said they would check on it. It appeared as if they forgot to put the order in at all because the food still didn't come out for another 30 minutes. When it finally did come out the order was wrong, it came with fries and not a side salad. The bacon on the burger was rock hard and impossible to chew. It obviously was left over from the hotel continental breakfast that morning. The fries were soggy and flavorless. And when the salad did come out it was in a tiny sauce dish, that one might use for catch up. Thankfully they comped our meal but the damage had been done. We had really high hopes, as the atmosphere when we had been before was great with live music. This time not so much, there wasn't any music playing, making for awkward silences as we waited for an ultimately horrible meal. read more
