    Dark Horse Latte

I've been here twice, Dark Horse Coffee & Kitchen has cracked the B.E.C. recipe and takes the crown for the best breakfast in Port Jefferson Harbor. Friday mornings, I take my B.E.C. breakfast very seriously. If you give me a sloppy mess for breakfast (Like a well known deli not too far down the road) I'll wish you well and take you out of my rotation. First time here, I wanted to see what the hubbub was all about so I stopped in for a latte and a savory muffin. Both the coffee and the muffin were baked very well. Today is B.E.C. Friday! I walked up to the window and was greeted by a cheerful hostess. I ordered the *Sayville's B.E.C. I asked about the bun which is freshly made on Long Island and I asked for the eggs to be softly scrambled. This B.E.C. is a banger! Made with Cage-free eggs, sautéed bacon and American cheese. They top it with some arugula and finish it on a toasted brioche bun. Also, the B.E.C comes with a side of potato chips? I mean, is this a Sayville thing? Those Bougie Sayville customers. Well the B.E.C. from Sayville? It rocks. They cracked the B.E.C code for sure, the eggs were not overcooked, very soft and fluffy. The toasted bun? Every NY B.E.C. should now have their bun toasted. Dark Horse Coffee & Kitchen, I welcome you to the neighborhood. This is a large space with good seating. *Tim and Dre, welcome to Port Jeff Village. Listen, you gotta drop the Sayville thing. Port Jeff B.E.C. or The Culver B.E.C. would be a good name. As Billy Joel once famously said, "either you date a rich girl from the North Shore, or a cool girl from the South Shore" Welcome to the North Shore!

Mhmmm so good. Everything I have gotten there has satisfied my craving and hunger. Honestly what I can't stop thinking about are there vegan nugs. Tastes just like chicken. Service is simple! Just order at the counter and find a seat! They'll bring everything out to you. I love sitting outside but inside has some very cute lounge seating and regular seats as well.

This place is wonderful! I went here for the first time with a mom's group, 4 of us with newborns all under 6 months. We felt welcomed and taken care of by the staff immediately! They offered high chairs, asked us what we needed, gave us space to let the babies play. We were comfy and able to relax without being in the way of other customers. The bathroom has a changing table too! The food and coffee were also delicious. Big menu that's full of great vegan options and it's easy to make lots of things gluten free. I first tried the oatmeal and it was great, a huge serving with yummy fruit on top. Went back a week later and got the little donkey with bacon, sooooooo yummy! It comes with a bag of chips. My sister got the Fig & Brie which she loved, and the coconut wild rice soup which was out of this world. Everything is plated beautifully and comes out fast and hot. I am so glad this place opened in port jeff - somewhere comfy which great food and service to meet friends for coffee and a bite to eat. It's clear the owners and staff know how to run a great operation. Can't wait to go back!

So excited about the second location of Dark Horse! I've tried so many things from here and have never been disappointed. My favorite is the cinnamon honey shaken espresso. Perfect amount of sweetness to coffee. The location is huge with a bunch of places to sit and enjoy your coffee or food. The owners are the nicest people & the employees are very attentive and knowledgeable. I highly recommend adding dark horse to your weekly rotation.

Best coffee shop on Long Island!!This new location is beautiful with plenty of seating both inside and out, including a few different rooms and options like couches for hanging out with friends or tables for getting work done. They also have plenty of parking spots. The employees are always friendly and the service is fast. Every month, they feature drink and food specialties that I recommend trying. My go-to is the cinnamon honey shaken espresso, order this if you go!!!

Soooo good I was so impressed with how yummy my breakfast sandwich was!! The bread is buttered and fresh and it's packed full of the fixings!! I also got a hot latte with their Irish cream syrup which was really delicious. My date got their honey cinnamon shaken espresso - HAVEEEE to get this, it was so iconic. The employees were all super kind and helpful. Even though the place was packed, we got our food pretty fast! Lots of seating and a great spot to hang out, do work, and enjoy

dark horse is a new café located in port jefferson. i went on a weekday morning, and it was very busy. it was hard to find a seat, and it seemed like everyone wanted to check out this new spot. they have a fairly extensive menu. i opted for the chai tea, which, compared to other chai teas i've had, tasted a bit watery and leaned more on the sweet side, with fewer spices than i expected. i tried the tomato mozzarella panini and it was pretty standard. they do have an extensive food menu, and honestly everything sounded really good, so i'd be open to coming back to try the food. while the chai wasn't my favorite, i'd be willing to try other coffee or drink options in the future. just note that seating can be difficult to find, so you may have to wait a bit. overall, everyone was nice, and the food and drinks came out in under 10 minutes.

I tried this place out with my wife and we both really enjoyed the food and snacks they had. Unfortunately, we did not really enjoy their coffee or latte. There was a slight burnt taste in their espresso's and drip coffee. We've also been to another location on Long Island and had the same experience. However, the location and ambience of the café is really nice. inside they had multiple types of seating for both eating and relaxing. Overall, I would come here to get a quick lunch but would be getting my coffee elsewhere.

Tim and Dre opened their second location. It has private parking and the space inside is spacious! Outside seating available, lounge seating, or regular tables. The food and drinks are always on point. Today I went with the smoked salmon avocado toast and my husband got the Chorizo & Fontina burrito. Great staff! Very welcoming and attentive. Congrats Tim and Dre on your 2nd location!

Great space, coffee & food. But what sets this place apart is the staff. They always have abundant workers keeping the joint spotless & well oiled, and they really do deliver service with a smile.

This coffee shop is located right at the bottom of the hill on your way downport. Parking can be tricky as this place is so busy however you can park in the marina if you have the Brookhaven town pass or around the corner at a free parking lot that is a 5 minute walk away. The building itself it very well designed with a surprisingly large space. They also seem to have a cute little outdoor space which I look forward to experiencing once the weather gets warmer. I am so impressed with the food at this shop! My favorite "go to" is any of the chicken wraps with the peach avocado side salad (which is huge BTW). I have tried the coffee and matcha and it is okay however the food completely makes up for it. Their portions are enormous and the quality of the food is very high. I really cannot express enough how delicious the food is, I highly recommend! Additionally the service is efficient and they have someone constantly walking around and checking in on you to make sure you have utensils, napkins and that everything is how it should be. I purchased a hand full of gift cards during the holiday season for my family and friends so they can also experience this place!

They serve hot food as well as standard sandwiches and they stuff the sandwiches quite a bit, almost too much. The service at the counter is always friendly when they take my order. The issue is, they are extremely overpriced. A bologna sandwich on a simple roll and a seltzer should not be approximately $20. The chicken cutlets are microwaved when they are ordered and they just aren't good and they are very pricy. Also, they don't sell drinks in cans, which would be a bit cheaper because a bottle of soda for $4 is just not fair. If you want a standard deli sandwich, at a reasonable price, I'd try a different deli in the area.

I had the yogurt with blueberry filling, pineapple, and grapes -- it tasted exactly as it looks, clean and simple. The caffè latte used Paramount Coffee's "The Perfect" beans; the shot was dark and strong at first, but once mixed it became smooth with a slight bitterness. The chicken Caesar salad bun with onion rings had a simple, healthy flavor but the portion was a bit small. Banana foster was more like a dessert than coffee, with a strong cinnamon note -- the banana flavor was subtle due to caramelization. You can add espresso if you want. Downsides: despite the name, it's not a good place to study. A lot of people come to eat, talk, hang out, and play games, so it's not quiet. Price-wise, coffee and drinks are reasonably priced, and milk swaps or small customizations aren't heavily charged, but food portions feel small for the price. They have a restroom, are wheelchair friendly, and they mentioned they own a roaster nearby and plan to start roasting their own beans soon. Overall, a solid spot with good vibes -- just not for quiet studying.
