SoulCycle corporate neeeeeeeds to help out the UWS location The staff and instructors at W77 are incredible but the space is so tight. There's barely any room for anyone to move between classes. There also aren't showers, which is tough considering that W77 classes cost the same as the other soul locations with showers. There is also at least one bike in the back row of the studio with a completely obstructed view because it's behind a pillar. I've tried out probably five different instructors at this location after moving uptown and I've really enjoyed all of them, and the staff is probably the nicest of any SoulCycle location I've been to, so it's still worth coming, but it stinks that basically every other soul location is way nicer. read more

This studio is incredibly cramped and uncomfortable, and the space is very poorly designed. There is just not enough room in the waiting area/ locker area. Especially if you're waiting for a class to start: once the previous class exits, you've just doubled the amount of people trying to navigate around an extremely small space. There is no way you can get in and out of the class without brushing against dozens of sweaty people who are making their way in the opposite direction to you. The classes itself are like any other soul cycle studio. read more

It was first time trying SoulCycle (any location), and I'm not sure I'll be returning. The fitness aspect of it is great -- 40ish minutes of spinning with a little bit of arm work built into the ride. And there are lots of lockers that are free-to-use when you sign up for a class. What I didn't love was how loud the experience was--the studio was blasting music the entire time, and it felt as if I was sitting in the GA pit at a concert. Because of the volume, it was difficult to hear the the instructor overall, and the instructor had to put the mic entirely against her mouth to avoid background noise, making the instructions muffled and even harder to hear. This location has certainly maximized its space--there are approximately 60 bikes that are all nearly touching. I didn't mind it, but if you feel claustrophobic or like a personal bubble, this location probably isn't for you. And with so many people in a small space, it can get muggy. read more

I love spin classes, such as the ones offered at SoulCycle. This review is for the studio alone. When I came for the first time to take a class in this UWS studio, I was shocked at how tiny and cramped everything was. There were three individual bathroom stalls, a slew of lockers, and no showers. The lockers are teeny tiny, you can barely fit a regular bookbag, let alone also your sneakers and jacket. As you are putting your belongings away, you will likely get hit by someone carelessly closing their locker on your shoulder. I am used to some of the other larger SoulCycle studios that have showers, bigger lockers, so I definitely would not come back to this location. I am an avid spinner, if you may. I usually go to a boutique spin studio in CT but am visiting the city for a few days and bought a three class pass since I've never tried our Soul Cycle before and wanted to experience the hype. This particular studio is very small and cramped when one class lets out and the second is waiting to go in. There are 61 bikes in the room and the handle bars are literally touching each other. I realize space is money but you can barely move around. One other thing I noticed and hated... the fans. There are a couple but they are small desk top fans and they WERE NOT EVEN ON! The a/c was not on very high and it gets hot in the room... like a sweat shop! On to the class: I went to a class with my husband and the instructor was energetic but didn't even ride! He had someone else on the bike and he just walked around the front and yelled out stuff... a lot of F bombs. I realize we are all adults but if my mom was with me, I would have been embarrassed with his language. (Insert shrugging emoji) The ride was good but I def get a better workout with the Stages bikes I'm used to that include metrics. A large percentage of the class is spend in position. 2 and 3 (standing) which doesn't work you as hard or burn as many cals as if you're sitting with higher resistance. I get that it's supposed to be high intensity but when you're legs have to go 100 RPM, there is no way the resistance is high on the bike! Regardless of the type of class, you get a good workout and the energy is great, and spinning really is what you put into it... but please get the fans on and maybe watch the language a bit during class. SoulCycle is not the same as it used to be. And everything you've been reading about the papers is true. And more. There are some awesome instructors though. Because I have a history and some people I really like, I will continue to ride with him. But I have very little respect for this company who does not practice what they preach and tries to put on an image that is not who they are. They are also infamous for not only not disciplining instructors who engage in bad behavior, but they even reward them. This has been going on a long time. If certain instructors are popular, they can pretty much do anything they want, including bullying riders like me. But again, I think my love affair with SoulCycle is ending. I have many fond memories and they really have some amazing clients and instructors and that's the only thing that still keeping me riding virtually, but I doubt I will ever go to the studio again unless it's one of my favorite instructors. Finally got to try SoulCycle! My first class was with Mikki and she was awesome! So intense. Her music selection was upbeat and fun to ride to. I would highly suggest looking up the instructors beforehand and find one that matches your music taste. That will greatly influence how fun your ride is!!The class is a mix of spinning, weights and of course, "tapping it back." Here are my suggestions: 1. I usually ride on a Schwinn bike so the SoulCycle ones took a little getting used to. Personally, I don't think it's as comfortable but I got over that once the class kicked off. 2. The rental shoes were also damp and very worn out. I'd recommend trying a size smaller if the shoe has stretched out a lot. 3. I also wish this was more affordable. At least have the first class be free? Not sure if they have any discounts or group packages. Overall, loved it. Even though the price is steep it's a great workout and so fun!!! I love spin classes but SoulCycle is my new least favorite. For years I'd just take classes at whatever gym I was a member at but have quickly realized you truly do get what you pay for so have become a regular at FlyWheel and other boutique spin studios. I'm late in trying SoulCycle probably because they're not on class pass and also because many of my spin friends had said their classes aren't worth the price. I like to try things for myself though to form my own opinions so finally decided to give SoulCycle a try... it's no secret SoulCycle classes are expensive which I don't have a problem with but I do have a problem with them offering water and then adding another $3 charge to my account after I paid $36 for the class. The other detail that left me with mixed feelings was that the instructor, Sue, was scheduled to teach the class before mine at the 9:30 class I signed up for but then announced she was too tired so she had someone else ride for her... are fitness instructors so hard to come by that it's necessary to double schedule them? I'm thankful I already had taken many classes before because otherwise this class would've been a complete waste. No one ever greeted me to see if I needed help setting up my bike or to explain how their classes flow unlike every other studio I've ever taken a class out where they offer every class for students to raise their hands in they need help. Definitely not a welcoming environment and a less than average product. I'm glad flywheel just opened another studio in the neighborhood. read more

Let me begin by saying I love SoulCycle and I know different riders have different preferences when it comes to instructors. That said, when charging $34 a class, (and not offering student discounts), my expectation is that every time, regardless of instructor, I'm going to get a great workout. Unfortunately, I did not find this to be true when taking Minna's class. Maybe it was just an off week, but from the poor song selection, to the lack of verbal cues when going in and out of the saddle, to the lack of coordination between the rhythm of the ride and the music, everything just fell short. I was also disappointed that she did not give us a heads up that the last song would be the last song--I think when instructors do this, it really empowers riders to give everything they have for the last few minutes. Two stars for Minna's class, but bumping this up to three stars because I have taken amazing classes with other instructors at this location. read more

I like SoulCycle simply because I like the experience and the environment they set up not because I enjoy cycling and definitely not because I think the workout helps. It is what you make of it, but honestly I like the music, and the instructors are great and have good energy and personalities that make exercise fun. Not gonna lie, I don't think you'll get ripped from just doing this, you'll probably need to supplement with other work, but it's fun, group focused, and energetic and if you're a music lover it can't get any better than this. This location is much smaller than the others beware and there is no shower or locker room. They have 2 bathrooms (no shower) and one changing room and the space is extremely tight which is why I am not giving it 5 stars read more

I LOVE SoulCycle. I'm addicted to it. But don't come to this studio. It is the absolute worst. I've given it two shots now and both times were terrible. I will never go back there again and neither should you. 1) TERRIBLE STAFF. No one has ever been friendly when I went there, which is really unusual for Soul staff. I felt like I was bothering them if I approached the desk to either sign in or get water or ask a question. - I once called to ask if I left my umbrella there last class and they said they didn't know but I could come and check. Really? You can't just check to see if my umbrella is there? Like you are so busy with other things. - I also tried to go up to the front desk after class to tell them I think there was something wrong with my bike, but couldn't get their attention. They were all too busy gabbing with each other to bother with me. I eventually got their attention by saying "excuse me" multiple times and when I told them about the bike, they were just like oh, ok thanks. AND THEN CONTINUED GABBING. There was a class immediately after mine so some poor cycler may have had to ride on that broken bike. wtf. - After signing in before a class, I went to change and then before going into the class, realized I didn't remember my bike number so I went back to the front desk to check the sign-in sheet. The woman had put it away for some reason so I asked her if I could see it, and she just gave me this dirty look and asked did you not sign in? I politely told her I already signed in and just told her I needed my bike number. She rolled her eyes, asked me my name, and then looked it up on her computer instead of just handing over the sign-in sheet that was right in front of her. Again, wtf. 2) UNSAFE BIKES. They don't check their bikes between classes, which is normal for most soul classes at all studios, surprisingly. Anyway, my issue is that BOTH times I have gone there, there has been an issue with the bikes. The first time I went, there was an issue with the bike for the girl next to me. The second time, there was an issue with my bike. I'm sorry--if you are charging $34 per class, the last you could do is check the bikes between classes. 3) NO SHOWERS OR LOCKER ROOMS. Why the hell is this not on their website? Every other soul studio in NYC that I know of has showers and locker rooms. I signed up for a class here in the middle of the day and had to go back to work, only to realize there were no showers there. Thank goodness my office has showers but not all offices do, so someone else could've easily been screwed. 4) CRAPPY / NOT ENOUGH LOCKERS. The lockers they have are smaller than the lockers at most other studios and don't always fit all of your stuff. Also, several of them are broken and there aren't enough lockers to begin with, so there are always SEVERAL people who have to leave their stuff in unlocked lockers, which is also crap for a studio that charges $34/class. 5) TOO SMALL / WAY TOO CROWDED. The studio has several bikes, but the waiting area by the lockers is way too small and can barely fit everyone so the rush before class is always awful. 6) ONLY TWO BATHROOMS AND ONE CHANGING ROOM. Again, wtf. You don't have locker rooms for people to change in, and expect two bathrooms to be enough for 61 cyclers?? Several people were late to my second class because the line was incredibly long for the bathrooms and changing rooms. This studio is a pathetic excuse for a SoulCycle studio. I cringe just thinking about how awful both of my experiences were here. I try my best to not let it color my perception of Soul. I hope management actually reads its Yelp reviews (as it should), and does something about it and messages me. read more

I have a theory about why places like Soul Cycle thrive in New York. New Yorkers are an intense breed that believe torture done in a specialized manner equals success. They are willing spin in a stifling, airless, sweltering room, inches from inevitably sweating person next to them for 45 minutes and pay $32 for the pleasure. I must admit that I was a bit annoyed that I could barely get to my bike in the back row b/c of how closely the bikes are positioned. I don't blame Soul Cycle for this, only my week of stuffing my pie hole with the best New York has to offer. However, I was too distracted by my instructors awesome outfit to be annoyed for long. He wore (and I'm not exaggerating here) hot pants, dance tights and leg warmers. The entertainment value made the $32 worth the price of admission. read more

My go to workout while in NYC. This location is a good one. Our class was GREAT...until the last song. ONE person got up and left right before the last song and while I get it that it is a no no unless you tell the instructor before, the instructor went OFF THE HOOK. She dropped the f-bomb twice and took what was a mild distraction for a few people and turned it into a huge distraction for the 50 other people in the room. Then, after the final song, she brought it up again. What if she was sick and was about to hurl? Should she have just done it in the studio? The point being, her tirade was way worse then the poor girl leaving. I still love SC and would even come back to this instructor's class. It was just sort of out of line. read more

This is a good workout, but not any better than what you'll get in a spin class somewhere else (with the exception of the arms workout). It does have a bit of a novel scene, but I'm not sure $32 dollars a pop is worth the novelty. That said, they've got a brilliant brand strategy and clearly have a cult following. If you want to feel like you're a part of the 'cool kids', you might be really into this . Otherwise, do the spin class that comes along with your normal gym membership and spend about 10 minutes afterwards doing arms...then take all of the extra money you'll save and go buy a cute outfit. read more

BEST. WORKOUT. EVER. Nick was the best instructor- I think he puts the SOUL in soul cycle and the Nic in my post-workout NIRVANIC state. He had everybody rockin out on our bikes, which is quite hard to do while clicked in to your pedals. The energy level was amazing, smiles AND laughter all around, in between the huffing and puffing of our "touch backs" "sprints" and "mountain climbs." Even my roommate who actually fell off her bike in the middle of class and almost had 2 asthma attacks left the class on cloud nine. That is definitely indicative of the type of business they run here on Friday afternoons. I left the class literally DRENCHED in sweat, high on life. I wish I was a trendy, rich, upper westside (TRUWS) mommy with a wardrobe full of lululemon work out clothes that can consistently afford to attend these classes. But alas, at $32/class and NO student or teacher discount, I can only afford the free class on fatty fridays. I WILL BE BACK though. And when I become a TRUWS I will be back a lot more often. read more

I may be a party pooper, but I just don't get the hype surrounding SoulCycle. I decided to try a class on the Upper West Side with my friend who is a huge fan of their Tribeca location. When we arrived, we were both shocked to find out that there are no locker rooms or showers. Just two tiny bathrooms and one changing room. This is really inconvenient if you are hoping to tidy up after your workout. The lobby/waiting area is cramped and too small to accommodate everyone waiting to go into the class. It's even worse when the previous class is dismissed and people are bumping into you with their sweaty towels and clothes. Ick. The cycling studio has a nice dark, zen-like feel, but then everyone is piled on top of each other. The bikes here are spaced way too close together and does not feel natural or calming. And my God, it's definitely not worth $32 to have someone's sweaty rump thrusting and cycling about 6 inches from your face. The instructor, Lauren, was enthusiastic, but didn't provide a very challenging workout. A lot of theatrics but not really effective at torching calories or getting the heart rate up. There is also a segment where you use 1 pound weights but this seemed kind of pointless. The only thing it served to do was almost getting hit by a dumbbell by the person cycling next to me. Honestly, I can see how people like the frills of SoulCycle--free gum and hairbands, but if you are really looking to get a good workout, you might be better off taking the spinning classes at your regular gym and saving the $32 for a massage. read more

Oh soul cycle I love you so so so much! I went today at 2pm and my work out was banging! I had the best, most fantastic time. The instructor was motivational the music was fresh and on point - she had some mash ups which ruled!!! Also I have to say the staff was awesome! Everyone was super nice and welcoming - no cooler than you attitudes, no intimidating atmosphere, just posi vibes and big smiles!! Just to recap the class was staffed with a 5 star instructor who threw down a 5 star work out. Why the mediocre rating then? 1) omg the price- it's completely unaffordable no matter what - 45 mins of anything in a class setting with 60 other people should not be that much over $20 it's just totally unbelievable EVEN for NYC. 2) the bikes have absolutely no tech. No gear identifications, no rpms, no nothing - yes the workout was fab but I like to at least have a benchmark to track myself that's a little more technical than a gut feeling. 3) the studio was so redic crowded and all the bikes are crammed together thisclose. At one point when we were in 3rd the woman in front of me sat back to take a break and I accidentally touched her butt with my hand that was just in 3rd on the handlebar - really soul cycle?!?!? That's how tight the bikes are!! There's no space! Overall I will go back as much as I can - that's how they get you I suppose! But I live far away and "as much as I can" translates to 4 or 5 times a year. If I lived in New York there is no way this would be my main studio, even though I really had the best time! read more

Major props to Soul Cycle for offering free community classes. I'm not sure if this is an ongoing thing or if the classes are only available when new instructors are getting certified, but it makes these classes accessible to those of us unable to swing $32/pop. Very friendly and accommodating desk personnel and Soul Cycle makes the most of their small, typical NYC real estate. Free water and the towels on every bike are nice touches. Given the intensity of the workout, showers (rather than small changing rooms) would be nice, but what can you do. The workout itself is intense -- torturous even. There's no doubt you're burning calories. As many others admit, I was also dripping wet pretty soon into the workout. Although, I can't be sure if this was all due to the spinning. I've never seen so many spin bikes packed into a small space and the air needed to be cranked higher than the music. (The music was pretty damn loud -- I was regretting not putting in ear plugs). Between the stifling room and the mood lighting, I felt light-headed on a few occasions. Overall, a different experience -- up until now, my norm was spinning on the bike closest to the open-air garage door at YAS in Venice, California, enjoying the fresh air and glancing at the people riding by with their surfboards on their beach cruisers-- but not a bad one. I'll be back for more community classes as long as they continue to offer them. read more

The one that got the crazes wheels rolling. The boutique cycling studio craze that is. I had first read about soul cycle a few years ago while reading a fitness/chick magazine --- described as the spinning studio for the stars, a combination of intense physical exertion combined with components of mindfulness and acceptance, SOULCYCLE truly is the cream of the crop of such studios, however, has its weaknesses at the same time. Riding at SC is expensive. Wicked expensive. And people will pay that amount for a short class, typically packed wall to wall with people. This particular studio allows for enough room to breathe and maybe lift your arms if your lucky. I don't blame them however for not opening up a bigger space...as i said, people still drop pretty pennies to be crammed in the small space. Classes are truly top notch, water is provided and I've never had an instructor that didn't kick my ass to kingdom come. Clientele has somewhat shifted over the past year or so from souly lululemon mommies to GASP, non designer clad gals and men as well. I don't live in the city so attending classes here is simply a treat to myself when I come visit for the holidays; If i ever were to move to NYC however, I'd fork out the money for EQUINOX or Sports Club LA where cycling classes are comparable and more bang for the buck. Caveat: if i were a millionaire and lived in NYC, i'd go at least 5 times a week! read more

I was in the area for work and visited this studio the entire week I was here since it was extremely convenient to my hotel. My favorite instructor by far was Francis. His music selection was great, he gave great verbal cues and his voice was clear and direct. Additionally, he gave an extremely challenging workout with a lot of choreography that was different from other instructors I've had. I would definitely take his classes if he moved to SF. The studio overall was extremely efficient and the downstairs locker room was quite large. read more

I have been wanting to try SoulCycle for years to see what all the hype is about. I finally had to the chance to try it through a free class offered by Lululemon on a Sunday at 5pm. Many times I have walked by the 77th & Amsterdam location and I expected it to be spacious and luxurious once inside. Not the case. There was a small queue to check in and I was asked to sign the first timers waiver form. Although I was about 15 minutes early and no class was scheduled before it was crowded. There are not many lockers available and it is tight quarters especially when there are back to back classes. I entered the studio a few minutes before class started to set up my bike and there was one person around if necessary to help adjust your bike, though it did seem like mostly regulars in the class. This particular ride was Miley Cyrus vs. Nicki Minaj and I found the instructor Ryan to be pretty enthusiastic. My main issue with SoulCycle is the amount of bikes they pack into the studio, 61! I had the unfortunate experience of having a larger/taller man on the bike in front of me and his rear was in my face the entire class. I would suggest trying to get a bike in the front row to avoid this issue. Being new to SoulCycle I expected to feel a little more welcomed. There were points in the class that it was expected you would know the choreography and movements and I was lost except for being able to see what others were doing (well mainly I was seeing a giant butt)! SoulCycle is a unique experience and I am glad I had the opportunity to try it. I do not think the workout is as good as Flywheel or Peloton. Since SoulCycle lacks monitors on the bike, I had no idea how hard I was working. Would I pay $34 to ride again, probably not. read more

If you are looking for a challenging workout this is it. Not only is it challenging but it is so much fun...more of a club atmosphere than a hard core work out. The instructors are all great and very motivating...the music is varied, so I think you can always find something you like. The only negative is that the space is very crowed - at both the east and west side studio and when classes are changing it is tight! Other than that get ready to sweat. If you actually ride outdoors, I would recommend avoiding this place. They ride w very little resistance and it seems unsafe for the pelvic joints and knees. I also was not keen on the "spiritual" babble from the teacher. This was an awesome experience. I am a 27 year old male, and I went in there thinking I was hot stuff, determined to not let the middle aged moms out-cycle me. But I had another thing coming. The class was intense. I could barely keep up, and it turns out those middle aged moms showed me a thing or 2. The moral of this story that this is a great workout that should challenge any fitness level. The area is pristine, and plus u get a free water, cant beat that. read more

Great studio! I've been to a bunch of studios between NYC and SF, but this is the only one where the staff offered me an extended handlebar for the bike. I didn't even know they were an option, but I'm glad I do now...it made a huge difference in my ride (I'm 6'2''). Very helpful if you're taller. I also like the lockers here more than most studios...USB chargers inside 'em. There are four showers in the men's locks room which is nice. read more

I think it also really depends on which classes you are attending. Each class has a different "following", and demand. So, not all classes are jam packed. I am hooked. I just wish I had more time to go. I would spin every day if I could! And the good thing about Soul Cycle is that you can book your reservation as well as specific bike online. And lastly, you pay by class, so no membership or advanced payment is necessary. My only complaint about Soul Cycle is the price. $32 per class. Ouch! read more

I purchased the first timer special which is $20 for a class and free shoe rental. Pros: Good music and lots of enthusiasm from instructor Lori A. I've never been to a spin class before so don't have much to compare it to...but I felt it was a pretty good workout whether you a beginner or someone more advanced since you can choose your resistance. Cons: This place is seriously CRAMPED. It's not a big deal when you're spinning, but getting in/out and using the lockers is quite annoying. There is not enough space to set your water bottle down or change your shoes. To make matters worse, the lockers are located in the tiny waiting area, making it difficult to get in and out. There is little one-on-one guidance during the class since it is packed. To be honest, I'm not sure how much guidance is really needed for a spin class like this, but then they shouldn't be charging $35 for it. Last, the bike seats were SO uncomfortable, and as a result it was very hard to focus on the class and workout. I probably won't be returning--I feel like I got a decent workout, but not significantly better than other workouts I have done, and too $$$ for what it is. read more

Nonetheless, here are some tips: - $20 for your first class. - Shoes & water are free. Other locations in NYC charge $3 for the former and $2 for the latter. - No showers, just changing rooms and bathrooms. - Lori & Emily are both incredible instructors! - Check to see if your company offers a corporate discount. I've been planning to write an update for SoulCycle West for the longest and finally got it together because this weekend was my favorite instructor Ben Turshen's birthday :) So, I did go back to SoulCycle after that first class and have been taking classes twice a week ever since. The workout is incredible, and I now have muscles in my arms and legs I had no idea existed. Don't be knocking those 1 lb. weights - they totally work, and after doing hundreds of reps at a fast pace, you can barely feel your arms :) And it's so satisfying to notice little bits of progress every week. I've gone to a bunch of Soul studios around the city, and Westside definitely has the newest and cleanest facilities. The front desk staff is also super nice and helpful. While you will burn calories with any instructor, taking a class with a great one will take your workout to a different level. I've tried a good number of instructors at various locations, including some popular ones, but Ben T. is hands-down, no-contest the best and my absolute favorite! He is incredibly competent and thoughtful in how he structures each class. His instructions are always perfectly clear, and he is constantly giving pointers and reminders about proper form. He doesn't yell, or holler, or bounce off the walls, if that's the kind of thing you like. But he is totally intense and keeps a very tight control on the class. It's like he is able to watch every student at all times, because the moment there is an issue, he is off his bike checking on a student, or calling you out for not working up to the standard. Ben motivates without getting in your face or raising his voice. He just makes you feel like if you do not give him everything you've got in each class, he will be VERY DISAPPOINTED, and no one wants that ;) He has a great dry sense of humor, which makes the intensity of the workout easier to take, and his music is awesome. Now he just needs a set schedule - that fluctuating thing is driving me crazy :) (And I'm not counting those 6 am classes - that's just never gonna happen :)) read more

It's expensive, I'll give you that. There is no way I'd actually be able to afford to go here regularly if I hadn't gotten a ton of gift cards for my birthday and christmas. Unfortunately I'm addicted now and once they run out I'm not sure what I'll do. It's quite the work out though and tons of fun. I love going super early, either 6:15 or 7:30 because I find it's a good crowd of younger people heading to work. The instructors are always great and I'm always super sweaty and sore afterwards which is exactly what I want out of a work out. It's a really nice change from my monotonous schedule of running and weights at the gym. The room can get crowded and the bikes are close together, but hey you're in Manhattan, it's a crowded place, if you want more room move to the midwest. read more

I enjoy SoulCycle, but be warned -- no showers at this location! The fact that there are no showers should be clear on the reservation page for this location. This did cause an issue for my friend and I, as we had to be somewhere after our class and ended up going to my friend's apartment to shower. Not cool. Most of the studios have space / cramping issues in the locker area, but this was also the worst. The lockers are lined up around the perimeter of the walking space to get to the studio itself, so it was impossible to navigate without bumping into everyone along the way. Lastly, they no longer offer free water to make up for the lack of showers. All of the above means this: One workout here and I have zero desire to go back. I get they were eager to expand but for the price you pay, this studio is too lacking in accommodations. Really, one major accommodation. Perhaps this spot is geared towards people who live in the area and thus do not need a shower. read more

Just did my first class the other day. The UWS one offers free water and shoes and for good reason...bad flow of traffic when classes let in and out. That said, there are a lot of regulars and they seem to have the method down pat. I'm not much of a whooper when it comes to exercise but the music and teacher (Lori) were great and it does get you pumping. Also, it was the first time I have been to a class that also has us doing weights...I'm still a bit sore. Not a spinning fanatic but I know I'll go back sooner than later. read more

I just took Dana's class at the UWS location on 77th and I'm obsessed!!! Loved her class! She is energetic, cool, helpful and inspiring! Plus her playlist kicked ass! I'll be a regular. All the staff here are super helpful and friendly as well. Thumbs up! read more

SoulCycle - Soul Cycle lobby - Cycling Classes Near Me - New York, New York

I have been to many spin studios-- Peloton and Flywheel being my favorites. I was so excited when I got a free pass from a friend to try SC for the first time. To start, this studio is cramp! I get that this is NYC and you are trying to squeeze in every biker that you can into a class but I was literally 3 inches away from my neighbors. The bike I was on was wobbly, for $34 a class you would expect something of quality, not some rinky dink wobbly seat. The instructor I had was very enthusiastic although I felt like I was watching a circus act-- she kept jumping off her bike in these spins while the room cheered her on. Other times I questioned the safety of some of the exercises she taught us--I felt my back straining from all the bobbing motion she had us do to the beat. Lastly, there are no showers!! Perhaps most riders here are locals and go home afterwards but given the price and hot box we just worked out in for 45 minutes, you would think they'd build showers for others. I am glad I got this pass for free--I would've been furious if I had paid for this class. Definitely sticking to Peloton from now on. read more

I went to my second Soul Cycle class here on the UWS. I was super excited for a great workout, but all I got was an entirely mediocre instructor with an awful attitude who ruined my afternoon. I'm sorry, but I'm not paying $35 to have an unfit woman yell at me in front of an entire class. When she asked at the beginning of class "Who's done less than 5 classes?" I waved my hand high up in the air. I have no shame, and if waving my hand is going to get me a bit more personal attention, then great! That's what I'm paying for. 10 minutes into class, she walks over to my bike and asks me how many classes I've done. I say 2. She then yells into the mike, "Then why didn't you raise your hand when you were supposed to." I was floored! I said, "I did." 10 minutes later, she comes over to my bike while I'm standing up, and she LOWERS THE RESISTANCE. I almost fall over, and while I'm losing my balance, I ask, "What are you doing?" And she says, "I'm changing your resistance - that's what I'm doing." Now I consider myself a fitness fanatic. I've run half marathons and done bootcamps. I love to sweat. But this was unbelievable. I turned to my friend and said, "I think I have to leave." She was ruining my sacred Sunday morning workout for christ sake. And then I was yelled at AGAIN for whispering! So I just got off my bike and left, and ran two miles home so at least I could compensate for the workout that this awful person stripped me of on my Sunday morning. So if you do decide to do Soul Cycle, PLEASE STEER CLEAR OF EMILY. She's not good people, even if everyone else at Soul Cycle tries to be (and I was very appreciative of the free pass they gave me for my awful experience.) read more

Reviewing the studio, not the class. Having been to plenty of Soul locations in NYC, this is definitely my least favorite. There are no full size bathrooms/showers like at the other locations - just small solo rooms. It's cramped too. If you're paying $35 and expecting the full Soul experience, go somewhere better (my vote is the new location on 46th - nice and spacious). read more
