Got an order to go Friday night. After I got home and my husband and I tried to eat, I wished I hadn't. We got the BBQ sausage and sliced brisket plate with baked potato. Sausage was chewy and had no flavor. The brisket was bland , sliced very thin and also had no taste. Barbecue sauce was think, sweet and tasted like bottled . Overall it's a 3+, I enjoyed eating the chicken with barbecue sauce and from the sides I tried, the best one was the creamy corn and French fries. The banana putting was quite good. Decent food and reasonable price. read more

Soul mans bbq in rockwall was a great suprise. After reading other yelpers reviews I almost went else where. The food was great. Pulled pork sandwiches, sausage, and smoked pork loin. It was all great. I liked the sauce and they let us taste test since we were new. The sides were mac and cheese, green beans, jalapeno cream corn, and fries. All good however the green beans were the worst of the bunch. When I first walked it I was immediately hit with the aroma of good barbecue! The atmosphere had a relaxing down home feel and the staff was very friendly. This is Texas so I had high expectations and this smokehouse did not disappoint! I ordered the truckers special which is a full rack of ribs and a loaded baked potato and I ordered a slice of pecan pie. The meaty ribs were tender and flavorful and the potato was the biggest I've ever seen! The sauce had a great balance of tang and smokiness which didn't overpower the meat. The pecan pie was a true southern treat as well. The portions were more than generous and I'll be enjoying the left overs tomorrow! This place is a must go to for barbecue lovers! read more

I went back to Soulman's today and had a great meal. Not sure what happened last time. The baked potatoes are huge and well cooked. Seems like they have a crew that knows what it is doing. Hopefully, the owners are spending more time there training. That seems to be the problem nowadays at most places...insufficient training before being turned loose on the customers. read more

So, took the fam over to Soulmans Rockwall for Sunday evening dinner about 6:45pm.. we ordered a ton of food.. brisket, turkey, half rack ribs.. could have been amazing.. but wasn't. brisket- semi cold for one thing.. not much flavor. My wife wasn't a fan and only ate some after we added salt and lots of the sauce. Which the sauce is pretty good.. that and the Texas toast were the best parts. Turkey- kind of strange.. very lunch meat tasting. No smoky flavor or even barbecue really. Again sauce all over makes it edible. Took most home to our dogs. Ribs- huge let down too and semi cold.. not overly tender and again not much flavor. Thank you sauce again. (wife and kid did not eat) Mashed potatoes- smooth like imitation potatoes and semi cold again! gravy cold and bland.. crazy. How do you mess up gravy?? Thank you salt and pepper (wife and kid did not eat) Beans- Enh.. not much to say here either way. Nothing BBQ about them. Also bland. Edible, my kid ate some. All in all, will never try a Soulman's location again. There's just too many way better BBQ options out there. Money wise, we were charged on par with the better places. So this is on our no go list.. we'll be driving farther to better places from now on. Staff and workers seem to be nice and the restaurant is a nice place (although the food line area was in disarray-food all over the place), great location. It's a shame. read more

Ok giving an update. We have since going to this location found the Greenville location and love it and have gone often! So we wanted to give this location another try. It was better this second time. The staff was fairly friendly. The food was a little better. Consistency still needs work. The management does seem to care so that's a win. Hopefully this location can figure out the differences and keep moving forward and the reviews will follow in the right direction! read more

I'm not giving this place 1 star for bad service or bad food...the people who work here are incredibly nice and extremely attentive, the serving portions are great as well. The last time I went up here with my boyfriend was a couple of months ago and as we got settled and sat down and started to enjoy our meal this older gentleman (I am assuming he was either the owner or manager) started threatening and intimidating the bus boy that he had working that afternoon. This eventually led to him intimidating the staff that was working the line where you order your food. I'm not sure if he decided to act this way and show off his authority because he had a huge party of a bunch of his friends or if he always acts like he's big man on campus. Either way it was disgusting to watch and made me feel really uncomfortable as a customer so therefore I will never be back to this location. read more

Terrible. Meat was COLD. As in under room temp. All sides were old dry looking. They could've at least stirred them. Or offered to make Fresh fried sides. So they wasn't an option because they were trying to do anything. Just stand there and get paid. Service was overly poor. Not satisfied at all. Soulman's is our family's favorite BBQ. The chopped beef is moist & smoky, and the ribs are amazing. I think the BBQ sauce should be it's own food group! I particularly love the double barrel stuffed baked potato, with either turkey or chopped beef. I have yet to try their breakfast buffet, but hear it's awesome too. read more

I was really surprised to see poor-moderate reviews of this place. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because a little place called Battle Creek BBQ in Bellville, TX holds that coveted fifth star in my heart. The portions are ahhh-mazing - which is fantastic b/c the food is incredible. I've had ribs, brisket and sausage - all delicious, I suppose it could have something to do with their ridiculously tasty bbq sauce. Buy a pint of sauce to take home with you - it's that good. The brisket may be thin sliced but man do they trim the fat off of it, watch - I'm mildly fascinated by how thorough they are. And ask for bread, thou shalt not complain of not receiving rolls if thoust hasn't asked --- better yet, ask for toast. They'll accommodate, and happily - everyone I've encountered there has been really nice and friendly. I bet they'll even cut you thick brisket upon request. I'm starving now just from writing about this place. Just go try it - they even have brunch, which is why I searched for them on yelp, curious to see if anyone had commented on their brunch...but then when I saw the existing reviews I had to write one. read more

I don't understand the negative reviews! I absolutely love Soulman's BBQ! The meat is always well prepared, it's juicy and smokey! There are plenty of delicious sides from mashed potatoes to Mac and cheese! The staff are always friendly and it is a family owned and operated business and they treat you like family. Always serve generous portions and they let me get all the BBQ sauce my double barrel baked potato can handle. My favorite is their turkey, I crave it for days after I have it! The prices are always fair and they offer amazing catering for any function! If you are near a Soulman's BBQ, do yourself a favor and go in! You won't regret it!! read more

We love the BBQ here. Just had the pulled pork, served on Texas Toast and it was delicious! The BBQ sauce is served hot and you can get as much as you want. It's also self serve for your sides so you can get as much or as little as you want of those too. I love that you can get as many pickles, onions, jalapeños, etc. as you'd like also. Some places are skimpy with those. Oh yes, and the free ice cream is some of the best, of it's kind, around. Friendly employees and great service. We will definitely be back! Went to soulmans for lunch meeting a couple of days ago. I'm frankly amazed at the 3 and 4 star ratings I'm seeing. The bldg is small and dimly lit, the food merely adequate. Dry ribs, cold okra in a steam table and small styrofoam tea cups. All this now charge $11.50 for one meat and a potato! Gads, I'll have to stay on the westside of town with Main street or Spring creek. read more

Mediocre BBQ alert. Wife and I went here in a pinch and should have skipped it. Don't waste your time with this place. Got the chopped beef sandwich. Meat was put through a grinder and came out mushy. Thought about the hot links or sausage but they were shriveled and looked sorry. Opted for mac and cheese along with fried okra... hard to mess those up, right? Wrong. I've had better mac and cheese from a blue box. If you like watery, bland, rubbery mac and cheese then you're in luck. They did at least bring out some "fresh" okra... but it was cooked in old grease and was chewy. No bueno. Rockwall... y'all need a Rudy's, a Sonny Bryan's, even a Dickey's... anything would be an improvement. They get one star for trying and another for bringing out the okra... even if it was BAD. Stopped here for lunch after stopping to refuel our car...The staff is very nice, the restaurant is clean and well maintained. The setup is buffet style and they cut the meat in front of you. The meat is well prepared and the cream corn is good. I'm gluten intolerant so the banana pudding was disappointing. Went here for dinner last night with the wife and overall this just an average meal the pulled pork was really greasy and lacked favor and the brisket was very dry even bbq sauce it was pretty bland tasting and the Mac and cheese tasted like it was the kind you buy as a TV dinner but the double barrel baked potato my wife had was pretty good. I live in Louisiana and my son lives in Rockwall, every time we go to visit him I like to go here to eat. The food is great and the surroundings are just perfect for the area. My wife gets the loaded potato and I get the sampler plate.. I'm sure there are better places to eat but here you get what you pay for and it is great food at a reasonable price read more
