Truly, really disappointed. 3-11-2026 I loved the reviews of this place, and was so excited when I found a karaoke bar to go to for my birthday. I was with a small group (3 others excluding myself) and we'd arrived early, and granted it wasn't a busy weekend night, so we didn't expect it to be lively and hype, but the service almost immediately was just so poor. I tried making friendly conversation with the bartender but he was so stand off-ish right off the bat. Condescending and rude, and we all weren't sure why, so we sat outside for the rest of the time we were there. We asked for some other recommendations on where to go and said we'd be back when karaoke started, he recommended one that was nice, but when we returned, one of our friends in the group had gotten sick (drank too much) And although I'm aware, it's not good for bars to keep sick people in their location, it can cause issues for them and lead to them losing their job if they are assumed to be over serving, but the guy we had serving us, was so blatantly rude, and was insulting my friends "inability to control her liquor and know her limit " and continued to insult her. I explained once she finished up in the bathroom we would be on our way, and that we didn't want to stay, but I didn't think he'd want her throwing up all on the main rooms floor. He then insulted all of us, and gave us "3 minutes" to leave and walked off. We returned today (3-12-2026) to pick up a wallet that was left there by my friend, and were greeted by such nice people, I believe a manager of some sorts, said he hoped to have us back soon, and I wish I would have told him about the previous nights experience. I'm not saying I think this place is bad, and I don't think people should write this place off their to-do list, just beware of this specific employee I guess. Not exactly a good reflection on the place, and I wish I had a better experience, as I leave in a few days, and feel like I wasted all of my birthday night on such a poor experience. I guess all places are due to have good and bad nights, and I guess we caught them on a bad one. I don't think I'll be returning. read more

Let me preface by saying I'm a very patient person-- that being said I waited about 50 minutes for a drink here. I attended Soundbar while visiting Galveston for a conference and was genuinely ready to have a nice time. The music was good for awhile, the atmosphere was fun and then I decided after 20 mins I was ready to cash in my drink ticket ... and the bartender never once looked at any of the 5 people trying to get her attention where I was standing. She was working hard, but completely ignoring an entire part of her section. The other bartender, who was also a manager, Matt was serving people left and right on the other side but we couldn't get nearly the same service. I got additional drink tickets from one of the conference hosts and it was a total waste as even the host watched and waited WITH US to also be served, and it took him 30 mins to get a drink. He said he was disappointed to bring his service to Sound Bar and I could see why. Eventually after standing in front of -who I thought might be the manager - John, the owner all this time, I asked if he was the manager and he said no, walked away and then when he came back he asked if I was having a good time and I couldn't lie, I wasn't, but I was still nice about the situation. He was able to get my friend service and she ordered two drinks since it was clear we wouldn't get any more in the night. Somehow I still didn't get served by the lady bartender so I went over to the middle of the bar, waited another 10 mins and finally walked right in front of the manager and got served. Again, I'm someone who's SUPER chill, but waiting 50 mins to even have ANY eye contact at all is beyond wild. After talking with several other people from the conference, they all had the same sentiments that they were ignored by the same bartender. I do appreciate the owner trying to be nice to my friend and asking if I was having an okay time, but I could pass on this place in the future. read more

Karaoke on the island! We dropped into Sound Bar as we were bouncing around a few bars after dinner in The Strand, and on a very slow Monday night, a lil' karaoke entertainment plus a nightcap was a different way to end the evening. Again, it was a Monday, so it was slow, but there was a rotation of regulars on the mic - some good, some great, and some... entertaining. There was no cover, there was no fee to participate, and the drinks were cheap. I rec' exploring this unique venue. And how about their "meet the owner" section of their Yelp page. The bartender was slumped over the bar with his ass crack out and then had the nerve to look at us and tell us that he wouldn't serve us any drinks. -to the "dumbass" owner, I didn't ask for a drink, my friends did. I was too intoxicated and understood I was at my limit but we were standing there for a while and he wasn't moving either way sounds like your hurt about a review of your not so good service :( poor big grown man. read more

THE KAROKE PERSON SUCKS AT THIS BAR!! I went tonight and I requested to sing a song and the guy told me that I could not sing a song that had already been sang before for the entire night. I was there for 2 and 1/2 hours and I didn't hear my song played once. What a horrible experience at this establishment. Was out this past weekend for a big veteran event which brought in 200+ veterans into town. We decided to check this place out for the first time. We were greeted at the door by a heavier set older women with short hair who claimed to be a "Manager". She denied us access because two veterans from our group had service dogs. The service dogs had their vests on and we had documentations provided by the DoD stating such. Said "manager" started to yell at us and demean our group and said "absolutely not GTFO of my bar". No one from our party was being rude or disrespectful to any of the staff members. I'm appalled that this establishment believes they're above the law and can disregard the 1990 American Disability Act. We were denied access to Sound Bar based on discrimination of disability. The service dogs both serve a medical purpose. So good to know if you have a disability, Sound Bar won't let you in. read more

I have been coming to SoundBar as an avid music lover and karaoke spectator since they opened over five years ago. The staff is always super welcoming and friendly, the prices are reasonable and the vibe is always awesome. These folks know how to do karaoke the right way. Super professional but also super fun! The crowd is usually diverse, so there is definitely a wide variety of songs being sung. They seem to have a ton of songs to choose from, too. Next time you're in Galveston, stop by for a guaranteed great time at my favorite bar on the island. read more

i am completely taken back by how many times i was yanked snd called a bitch by the EMPLOYEES, yes the employees ladies and gentlemen. Right when i walk in a guy who wasn't the bouncer he was the bartender yanked me to ask for my Id. Keep in mind i wasn't walking past him or trying to enter without showing it i was just talk to my boyfriend to ask him to remove my Id from his wallet the boom he yanked me very hard and calls me a bitch for telling him to not put his hands on me i tried reporting it to another staff member and there solution was kicking us out! this place is cool but the employees ruin the establishment word of advice to the owner, fire your whole staff because you will get some legal trouble because of them read more

Awesome Singer/DJ/owner Timothy keeps things lively! Beautiful venue, spacious, great sound and a technological way to search and sign up to sing though they do have the standard clipboard if you already know what you wanna sing. This place raises the bar on karaoke bars. Much nicer and the entire club is devoted to karaoke. Saturday night was my first time and I'll be back often! Timothy, I had tears in my eyes when you sang Billy Vega's "What Did You Think...". Fantastic!!! Crystal is the super efficient bartender, prices are reasonable and wine pour was generous. Sound bar is a must visit when in Galveston. My buddy Julian works here and brought us here when we visited him on a Sunday Funday. The space was pretty big with a really nice bar. There is a stage for karaoke and some tables to be the audience. I asked the bartender if they had Hennessy (my favorite alcohol) and she said yes! I'm usually used to people saying no they don't offer that. I don't recall her name but she made a damn good drink. How did she know I like my drinks stiff? =] I was too shy to karaoke that night but I'll definitely come back and give it another shot when I am on the island. read more

Went to Galveston for a couple nights , planning to see a particular musician perform at the acoustic cafe but unfortunately the musician cancelled due to illness. So we decided we were going to need to make our own music and we went on the hunt for karaoke. Found sound bar here on yelp and went for it. Cool place, doesn't get lively until around 11 but once it did there were plenty of people but on this particular weekend it wasn't over crowded. I didn't give 5 stars because my one complaint was the Karaoke DJ has the speed of the music bumped up and it was annoying. We asked when it was our turn if it could be slowed a little (to the normal speed) but it never really seemed to change. Other than that the app based software used to get on the list of upcoming performers was easy to use, bathroom was clean and it was a good crowd. read more

If I could leave zero stars I would. My friends and I were out and having a great time when the manager bartending assumed we were talking mess about her coworker. I was explaining something that happened on my vacation to my friend when she immediately started yelling that if we're talking sh*t about her coworker then she would kick us out. I don't know the managers name but she is a short blonde haired woman who just interrupted my conversation to assume things and yell at us for no reason. Came here to have a nice time to celebrate a friends birthday and ended up having a really bad experience. Staff is not professional and the 'bouncer' checking for ID was also the bartender who happened to be the most disrespectful person there calling my friends out of their name and began shoving and yanking my friends for not having their ID's out and ready at the door. There was no line and no reason for him to put his hands on them, let alone on any female. He went out of his way to cause trouble and pushed one of my friends telling her "Don't fucking push me... I'm an employee bitch!". Never in my life have I had such bad experience anywhere coming from the staff and gotten kicked out for trying to address our concerns and problems with upper management. When speaking to the manager outside the bar about the reoccurring instances she smoked while listening to our concerns, which was very unprofessional. We will never return to this bar ever again, don't bother going unless change is made and all staff members are replaced. Please DO NOT go to Soundbar. I loved going there with my fiance but the one time we go and leave our card open at the bar, money is stolen from us. The blonde bartender with short hair asked me if i wanted to leave it open and i agreed, the total came out to $57 and after it finished processing it was $63 meaning the bartender added her own $6 tip when i had already given her a cash tip. I wasn't aware bars would take advantage of people like that but im glad i wont be going there for NYE now. I contacted the manager and he had his bartender post my receipt and info on line and told me to handle it with my bank. He didnt care at all and told me to basically get my bank to handle it. New clean bar Downtown Galveston on Mechanic Street. I've hit happy hour twice ( I think HH ends at 9:00 during the week) drinks are inexpensive during this time and the ac works great! Nightly Karaoke starting at 9 pm. The bar is nice and big and plenty of tables and chairs as well. Pool table and novelty games are also available. Very LARGE smoking patio!!
