Went to Cooper's Landing for a casual lunch. Overall, it was a decent experience. Not the best, but still enjoyable. We started with the fried calamari. It was thicker than what I'm used to but in a good way. The texture and flavor made it different, it's topped with parmesan cheese. I also ordered the caramelized brussels sprouts which was the best part of my meal. They were crispy and flavored with a hot bacon vinaigrette. My husband ordered the grilled salmon dish which he said he enjoyed. Service was solid. He was friendly and attentive which always goes a long way when you're in a new place. I started with the mini crab cakes which were wonderful. I also had a side salad which was fresh and crisp. I highly recommend the bacon vinaigrette for a dressing. I then had the NY Strip with fresh vegetables and grilled shrimp. The vegetables and shrimp were fresh and delicious. The steak was very tender and well seasoned. OK....We've been to Cooper's Landing many times. This time it was for our anniversary. The cocktails were amazing and the atmosphere top notch. We started with the lobster bisque and it was delicious. My wife commented that she believes Cooper's Landing is Galveston's best kept secret. Despite the amazing food and service we've never had to wait for a table. I had the NY Strip and it's was delicious and perfectly cooked. My wife had the Coconut Encrusted Snapper and Shrimp and she loved it. Our server Kadyn was attentive, courteous, and efficient. He's definitely a 5-star server. I guess my only takeaway came when I asked for salt and pepper. The salt shaker arrived clogged and encrusted. Now I live on the beach, so I know how humidity affects salt, but this is a classy place and they could pay a bit more attention to overcoming this challenge. It's possible with a bit of attention. While staying at an Airbnb on the beach with my parents and our pups, we noticed that Cooper's Landing was right by us and looked like a great place to grab dinner at. There weren't many people there when we arrived but the inside was pretty so we were happy to dine in. We were seated quickly at a table near the bar and our drink order was taken. All of the servers were friendly and the service was generally good. For the meals, my mother and I ordered the sea bass and my dad ordered the burger. The food looked great upon arrival and that was a definite plus! The key reason for my dad ordering the burger was that it came with an over easy egg on it and he'd never seen that as an option before. When the burger arrived and he tried it, he commented on how dry the burger was which made us ask the server about the egg. We were informed he "was supposed to have been told that the restaurant is out of eggs" but that there was nothing that could be done now. It was a bit frustrating and he didn't enjoy the burger because of it. As for the sea bass and sides, it was an OK dish but was far from one of the better ones I've tried. At the end of the meal, we did see that they added a credit (of about $2.50) for the egg which seemed ridiculous and not even worth doing at that point. All in all, the experience and food wasn't bad but it also isn't a place I'd visit again considering the price/ value of the meal. read more

I give this restaurant a Solid 4!! I have a few criticisms but still a solid 4!! Our waitress was great and she suggested the Bang Bang Shrimp as an appetizer. It was the best shrimp we had in Galveston. Lightly breaded fresh shrimp with just a little Bang Bang Sauce. Best I have had anywhere!!! My husband got the Gumbo and he thought it was very good. I loved the presentation with the mini Tabasco Sauce bottle. I ordered the Bacon Wrapped Scallops. The flavor was good but they weren't really wrapped in bacon. It was like they placed each slice to circle around the scallops. A bit of a disappointment. I got mashed potatoes and veggies with it. The veggies were cooked to perfection and really delicious. The mashed potatoes came with a white gravy that was not mentioned on the menu. The second star of the meal was my husband's dinner. He ordered the Seafood Pasta with Marinara Sauce. They have two other sauces you could choose from as well. As soon as they placed his dish on the table I KNEW it was going to be amazing! Solid chunks of shrimp, scallops and swig. Swig was new to us. Our waitress told us it was Japanese catfish. My husband really liked it and stated how flavorful it was. I got to taste his dish and it was yummy! We both agreed the sauce made all the difference. It is what I would call New England Tomato Sauce. If you know, you know. Sort of like a real Italian grandmother would make. We also both noticed that the dish was not overloaded with pasta which is what is usually done. No, the pasta accompanied the seafood not the other way around. Perfect!!! We asked for bread and the waitress asked us if we wanted the garlic bread and we declined saying we just wanted bread or rolls. She suggested the sourdough bread and we agreed. It came out as two slices of sourdough toast! Hmm??? That was fine. Not a problem at all. Just a bit odd. Since we were on vacation, we will not be back till next year but we know we will be ordering the Bang Bang Shrimp and the Seafood Pasta with Marinara Sauce!!! We will dream about it till then. What they did good was exceptionally good! Probably better than anyone else in the area. Beware that there are many stairs to get to the door. Not a problem for most people but just wanted to make everyone aware. We chose to sit outside on the enclosed deck which was a rather casual room. BUT!! Next time we will be dining in the main dining room which has white table cloths and an elevated ambiance that their food deserves!!! read more

The ones pictured were fine and the calamari was perfectly crispy, but the lobster bisque was way too salty. On the other hand the seared tuna didn't exactly taste fresh, and was very greasy. I love that their seating is indoor, outdoor and indoor/outdoor (sort of like an enclosed deck with windows). Very nice depending on your mood (or the weather). I left off the pesto mayo I really enjoyed this sandwich - shrimp po boy (pic attached) served w/fries. Not bad, but typical - grilled salmon served w/ mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables. I substituted mashed potatoes with extra vegetables (pic attached). I asked for the salmon to be cooked medium and it was perfect (pic attached). Cooper's Landing is one of the better restaurants on the west side of the Galveston Island. Quality craft cocktails, wine list, and lunch and dinner menus that feature seafood, steaks, pastas. We dined there are New Years Eve/my beau's bday, and we started the early dinner with Greek salad (needed a lot more feta and olives), the hot crab and shrimp dip, and Shrimp Kisses. I ordered the linguini and clams diablo - a house favorite; my girlfriend ordered the same but opted to switch sauces to a garlic butter; and my beau went for a steak. They have weekly specials, like, Monday - kids eat free! (with adult entree purchase), Tuesday Burger Day, etc.... Social hour: Mon-Fri 2-6pm with $5 wells, $6 wines and bubbles, $8 select craft cocktails, $1 off beers (and beers are pretty cheap to begin with), and small plate menu. There's bar, dining room, and covered patio seating (this resto used to be a German-themed burger bar... though I can't remember the name, as it was only opened a few months out of the year). WP 6 yr mixers all the way up a WP 15 yr. Buffalo Trace distillery is represented in here with their most popular expression sans Rip and Pappy. Good selection of additive free tequila and mezcal too. Happy with my app of mini crab cake, dipping in their sauce is a must, takes this dish from ahrite to pretty good,. My e tree Caesar salad was a half head of lettuce and takes at a 1/2 lb of perfectly grilled salmon. Service was friendly and knowledgeable it's a must do while here on the island. read more

The staff was friendly and had some good recommendations:) we sat in the enclosed patio, with the doors open with a nice breeze, had a slight view of the water which was nice. We ordered The Cooper Landing Salad to start with and split, thank goodness we did, it was huge and plenty for 2. It had Fried Goat Cheese midallons that were so good! Uneven food and poor service (although the servers are friendly) were the main issues at Cooper's. What's good: cocktails, wedge salad and fried shrimp. What's not: much of the fried seafood platter, sides, and prime rib. Service is slow and we were ignored much of the meal while servers chatted up other tables. Not recommended. We started with the lobster bisque which was good, but had an unexpected tangy flavor. I ordered the tuna which was delicious, especially the spinach and my husband ordered the ribeye which was very disappointing. It was our 47th Wedding Anniversary and we were enjoying a week at the beach with our Texas kids and grandchildren. We all went to Cooper's Landing because of the view and because it was close to our rental condo. Boy were we glad we did. Our server was amazing. He knew just what a party with young children needed. He got them drinks immediately, then put their food order in with our appetizer order. As a result, they didn't get hangry and were excellent company. The drinks were excellent, I had a dirty margarita and the waiter helped my wife pick out an excellent wine. Everyone enjoyed their main selections. I had blackened snapper, the wife had shrimp. Both were fresh, well prepared and plated. Delicious. Cooper's Landing has classed up the joint in some elegant ways, especially the bathrooms. However, it is almost as if this was compensating for their lack of service. We came in asking for a seating for 5, and they were able to quickly sit us at a 4 top and add a chair. However, neither menus nor water were offered. After almost 10 minutes without being greeted, a server finally came to the table and blamed the hostess. Great spot for lunch in the Galveston area. Overall though I'd rate it a 3.5 but I'm rounding up to a 4. Parking: There's quite a big lot for parking and it's all free parking. That being said, I imagine on a busy night the lot could get full. Location: Woodys is across the highway, so your view from the restaurant is road, woodys, then the water. That being said, the patio is high up so you do get a good view of the water. Unfortunately the traffic sounds are a bit much. We went on a weekday and though there was less traffic than the weekends, it was still significant. Seating: There's bar, indoor, inner patio, and outer patio. The inner patio is still covered while the few seats on the outer don't seem to be. We sat at a table right inside the inner area and it was perfect- we were iyt of the sun while still enjoying the fresh ocean breeze. Food: The food was fine. This is the reason for my lower rating. I ordered the poke bowl which was on the spicier side but I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of fish included. This was the main food highlight. The rest of the food we got at the table was good - not particularly noteworthy or mind blowing but an enjoyable lunch. For us, the price was a bit high for the quality of the food and we would probably return here more for the location/ convenience rather than the lunch menu itself.
