Last July (2012), I bought a small fixer-up house in Burien. It had lots of work that needed doing. I've been doing a lot of the work myself, but windows was one of the areas I didn't want to touch. I learned quickly that you really need to be careful who you pick to install windows. After a couple of estimates, including Home Depot, I decided to find the most established, most trusted window installers in the Puget Sound area. Hands down, it was Sound View Windows & Door (do a quick internet search, and it soon becomes obvious). Having received other estimates, I was fine paying what Sound View wanted. The price wasn't cheap, but that was OK, because cheap was what I wanted to avoid in terms of quality. I had an initial visit, which led to an estimate. That was followed by another visit to confirm exact measurements. I'm sure the installation (5 windows) was small by Sound View standards, but the 2-man crew spent a lot of time on each window. I was actually surprised how much effort is involved to install a window. I currently work from home, so I got to watch the whole process. Following the installation were a number of emails to check with me on how satisfied I was with the installation. All windows work super great, and I'll be having Sound View back in the future to install 8 more large windows on the west-facing side of my house when budget allows. The main point here is this-- I bought a 1,000 sq ft fixer-upper, and these guys installed windows in my place as if it were one of those amazing waterfront homes where they've done work. It doesn't matter whether your house is big or small. These guys will give you great advice, a quality product and first-class service. read more

I had a mixed experience. Some people that work there are great, helpful, and organized, but others are very much the opposite. Their quote was very competitive. The install was frustrating. They seemed to only partially know what they were doing and didn't come close to finishing a job that should have taken one day. They sent out someone new the second day and he did a great job. Also, it turns out window replacement is very easy. I recommend looking it up on the internet and doing it yourself. You can't be much worse than the first two guys they sent. We were able to get someone out to our house pretty quickly for a consultation, and the person sent out seemed fairly knowledgeable about windows. The problem is that he came out on a Thursday, and said he would give us an estimate by Friday, or possibly Monday at the latest. It's now Tuesday and we still haven't heard back from them. The people we ended up choosing actually gave us an estimate during our initial consultation and it only took them about 15 minutes to put together, so it doesn't seem like this should be that complicated (we need 3 windows replaced). read more

Sound View is the place to go for new windows and doors. They were not pushy with sales and did not try to sell me the "extras" I did not need like some of the other places I called. They showed up on time, every time. We needed to replace our front door as it was hollow and did not seal correctly. The installers James and Jeff made the whole process a breeze. We needed 3 windows for our kitchen remodel, and with the help of Jason Kath at Sound View we chose Andersen windows. We had originally planned on casement windows, since those were what we were replacing. However we found some sideways sliding windows that worked much better for us. Jason explained the different material choices and construction options to us clearly. The kitchen remodel carpenter installed the windows, and he said the windows were very well made and superior to other brands that he had worked with. Sound View ordered the windows promptly and delivered them on schedule. If we need windows again, we will certainly go to Sound View. read more

I bid this job six times and Sound View was the last. The "save the best" rule definitely applies here. These gentlemen were friendly, professional and competitively priced. We had 16 windows replaced and it took Sound View five eight hour days with a two man crew. Do your homework on installation methods regarding replacement windows because there are a LOT of yahoos out there that will attempt to sell you on the brilliance of their "collapse the frame" method, or, they will try to sell you on windows that they keep in stock that they plan to rig for your needs "because custom sized windows are more costly" . If you hear any of this nonsense (flat out lies), I suggest you immediately show them the door. Sound View does the "new construction" method. It is by far the best, most thorough, detailed and time consuming way to replace your windows. A good job takes time and they take their time. I was especially delighted that Dan, the lead on my job, removed all of my beautiful mahogany trim, cut it to fit and set the windows so snugly they did not require caulk on the interior. Outstanding attention to detail. I will have to get the paint brush out and paint the new exterior trim on my windows come spring, but this was clearly explained to me and I believe the extra effort on my part was well worth the choice to go with Sound View. I plan to have them back to replace a few doors, which is really the best review of all. read more

Not sure what you have to do to get a quote for windows and doors from Sound View. I called first and spoke to a sales person, they provided an email address for Wilson, where I could send my drawings. I did that, then nothing, no response, not even a hey I received your email...so I called a week and a half later. Spoke to a sales person, told them I emailed Wilson with my information, they told me they would pass on the message. I never heard from them. I had a sizable (over 10K) order which I ended up purchasing from another vendor. As a professional who works in the design industry - it's just plain annoying that sales people can not even be bothered to return emails. Sometimes a simple response, hey I received your email, I am busy but I will get back to you within the next week, will suffice. I have found that across board - I had to chase down quotes for windows and doors, which is unexceptible when I am the customer. Sound View was just the worst as they did not even respond... read more
