He came out to measure everything and was very prompt. He is kind, considerate, nice and just a genuine nice guy. He has heard it all. Very unfortunately for me, I had to give him 1 month notice that I had to cancel the job because I thought funds would be coming to me that will not be coming. I am disappointed that I could not follow through and when I wrote Mike he, again, was kind and considerate and not upset. I would hire Mike Ibarra and Soundproof Chicago for all noise abatement needs. He did explain also and was thoroughly honest that the ceiling abatement would not be 100%. Mike came to our rescue and saved our sanity from the stampede noise that is our upstairs neighbors. He completely tore open our bedroom ceiling and employed the most aggressive soundproofing approach. This was a big, messy job that lasted about 5-6 days. In regards to the actual window and the soundproofing it provides, I give it 5 stars. The low stars given here is for the customer service. In my experience I had a lot of difficutly with communicating with them. After the initial consultation I did not hear from them until I attempted to contact them 3-4 weeks later. I felt that because my job was "small" (only one bedroom window) that I was not made a priority and almost felt as if I were a nuisance. Finally after a couple phone calls and two emails, my appointment for installation was scheduled. His father came for the installation part and this part of the process was very smooth and efficient. There was a minor scratch on the window and his father stated he would call the glass company and have it replaced for free. He said it would only take a couple weeks (this was 5-6 weeks ago). In addition, I asked Michael for a receipt for the work they did and have yet to receive that. UPDATE: I recevied communication from the ownersand after discussing a misunderstanding I have increased my rating and will consider using them in the future.. These guys are the most professional, hard-working guys I've come across in a while. They are worth EVERY PENNY. The noise above us was non-stop. All day. All night. The owners that live about us have 2 dogs that run across thier hardwood floors and bark all day. And all night. A year after moving into my condo and listening to every single footstep my upstairs neighbor would make, I finally decided to get my bedroom and hallway ceilings re-done by Soundproof Chicago (I hope to get the rest of my place done once I get the budget). So far, the results have been awesome and I can finally sleep without the worry of waking up just because the people above me decide to come in late, get up early, or whatever. The project itself is intense and takes a while. However, they do a great job cleaning up and getting the new ceiling ready. Once painted, you won't see any difference. Also, after I asked, the foreman at my site would keep me updated via text at the end of each day. He was great at answering questions and keeping me posted, which is key for big project like this. Yes, you have to sometimes be persistent in calling them because they're THAT GOOD. I had a very bad problem with noise from upstairs condo neighbors: screaming, stomping, jumping on hardwood floors...and that was just the adults! Add in kids coming and going in a wood structure with no soundproofing, and it was a daily nightmare. When Soundproof Chicago started my work, it was like I was the most important person to them. I had a large ceiling torn down and soundproofed with a new ceiling. It took nearly 3 weeks including the drywall taping and painting. These guys were always on-time, respectful, clean, and trustworthy. No surprises in time or cost. Expensive? Definitely! Worth it? Most definitely! Would I do it again? Absolutely! You can't do much about unreasonable feral upstairs neighbors, but it's more than 85% quieter now. There is still some noise from the rooms that aren't soundproofed, but now it doesn't echo throughout my condo and I can just turn up my music to mask this level of noise. Insulation alone in the ceiling won't stop impact noise like footfall because the impact comes down the structure. These guys know what they're doing. My kids and I are happy! I have a home right across the street from the El, Metra and freight trains. I went with Soundproof Chicago for my daughter's bedroom after reading other reviews. Their team was able to accommodate our windows that pull out for cleaning, I must say they did a very professional job, and cleaned up all of the mess. The outside noise is reduced so significantly, that the only loud noise we hear in the room now comes from the other rooms that do not have the soundproofing! I live in Chicago's west loop, just west of Union Station. When I moved into my building on the 17th floor, I thought I would get away from the street noise. I was wrong. I had Mike and his guys soundproof my living room/kitchen area a few months back and I could not be happier! My condo is a gut rehab that was put together in the most low-budget, shoddy way. Wish I had realized that before purchasing, but that's another story. There was barely a layer of drywall between me and the upstairs neighbors, and that combined with their heavy walking was making me miserable. I could hear everything - their TV, their conversation, the heavy walking - everything. Mike came out to look over my space and give me a quote, and he assured me that his work would significantly reduce the amount of airborne and impact noise. He was completely right! I no longer hear any chairs scraping, conversation or TV upstairs and the footfall noise has been significantly reduced. It's completely livable now. The project was fairly extensive. I had to stay with friends for 2 weeks because all my furniture was moved into the bedrooms and there was literally no space for me to be at home. But that was a small price to pay for the excellent results! I was able to come into the condo in evenings to pick up clothes and check progress. They tore out my ceiling, put in extra layers of drywall and green glue, and rebuilt the ceiling. It looks as good as before, if not better. My ceilings were low to begin with, even though I'm not in a garden unit, and I was a little worried about how much they would have to drop the new ceiling. They estimated a 2 inch drop, and thats really what it was, and it's not enough to effect the feel of the space. The results are definitely worth the barely noticeable change. Because of the low ceilings, my kitchen cabinets had to be lowered too, which also is barely noticeable and the guys did a great job putting everything back together. Mike and his team are really considerate. They gave me updates and checked in via phone and text when they had questions. I was having the work done during the first Polar Vortex episode in January and they were careful to turn my faucets on each night and off each morning to make sure my pipes didn't freeze. They even fixed a couple of little annoying handyman-type issues while they were here. They shaved down a bathroom door so it wouldn't stick, replaced a light switch with one that made more sense, and fixed my broken balcony threshold. These little extras were a nice touch that I really appreciated. They were also careful to leave the condo clean and came back to take care of a punch list of little things so that the job was completed properly. I could not be more satisfied with the work and plan to have them come back and do the same work on my bedrooms. These guys were wonderful. We live in the bottom unit of a 3-flat condo building with thin floors and noisy upstairs neighbors. We could hear absolutely everything -- walking, cellphones vibrating.. the impact noise was unbelievable and a real problem for our young son especially. Michael and his team came in, gave us a detailed quote for soundproofing two rooms, and got started pretty quickly. It took just over a week to finish up two bedrooms, and during the project they were timely, responsive, and did a great job taking care of our furniture and keeping the place clean during the work (which is intensive). We bought a duplex in lake view and love it but we didn't love the noise that came from our upstairs neighbors into our master bedroom. My daughter's family lives in a historical condo conversion less than 100 feet from the Sheridan red line. I worked with Mike on a small project in our last apartment (soundproofing a window next to the bus stop) and was very pleased with the results.
