Reservation system allowed me to book a table on Christmas Day. We got there and the restaurant was closed. Very disappointed, mostly with Yelp for this lack of oversight. In fact, there were at least 20 restaurants that were closed when we called and Google maps said they were open. Apparently nobody pays attention to this. I have been here several times. If I want a chicken fried steak I only go to two places in town. Overeasy for a breakfast one and TexazGrill for lunch or dinner. Bring your appetite because both servings sizes will fill you up. It doesn't sit heavy like ALOT of CFS but it is satisfying. Service is always prompt and attentive. The building at 16th St and Bethany Home is smallish but has quirky western flair. A better side vegetable selection would be nice. Front parking is tight. Joined a couple of friends for lunch. Was seated at a booth barely large enough for 3 grown men. Ordered the " famous" chicken fried steak. Comes with mashed potatoes and corn, a biscuit and gravy. Biscuit, very good, especially with the rich white gravy. Mashed potatoes were excellent. Just lumpy enough, and the same tasty gravy! Corn was delicious. Nice side. The CFS? Average. Not bad, nothing special. A definite plus... condiments included A1& Heinz 57 sauce, Tabasco peppers in vinegar ( real Southern style), and Cholula hot sauce. I live up the street from this place, and it was already a great experience being able to walk to it. Upon arrival, the inside is so much fun. Quite the exciting atmosphere, very Texan-country vibes. We arrived for dinner, and were seated almost right away. The waitress was very attentive, personable, and nice. After looking over the menu, I decided to go with the CFC (Chicken Friend Chicken), with mashed potatoes and French fries, with my gravy on the side. Before the entrees came out, the waitress dropped off some of their buttermilk biscuits, which I gotta say, were probably the best I've ever had. I've never been a huge fan of them previously, because most of the one I've experienced were dense, dry, and quite crumbly. TexAZ's biscuits were perfectly light, buttery, and soft. SO Good! Our entrees came out and they most certainly did not disappoint. The CFC comes with TWO, full-sized chicken breasts, fried to perfection. It's not a super thick batter, which makes for a really nice crisp crunch. The chicken was quite juicy and flavorful, and adding a little of their gravy on it only enhanced the dish even further. The mashed potatoes were also fantastic, and the French fries were very fresh, and lightly salted. Overall, the experience was great, the service was great, the food was great. Really nice. First time here and not at all disappointed. The inside is really fun. And has all these decor around. The food however also pretty good. I had the steak and eggs. The steak personally could've used more salt and so could the potatoes. I had the Sunday driver as well. Tastes like oj and vodka. My mom had the burger and it's a big burger. Eh, it was okay, nothing to write home about. I needed to doctor it up a bit - added some coleslaw (with a healthy dose of Tabasco ), because it needed a little something extra, The bun came dry. There was again tomato pickle, lettuce and onion on the side.The chicken was a bit greasy, and the mashed potatoes, while super delish and the gravy was amazing with some lumps and peels. The only downside was the wait time. It took about an hour to get our food, and the place wasn't even that busy. Sounds like they might have been training some new staff. The CFS was flavorful and the gravy nice and peppery. Best I've had in PHX. What kept it from being a solid 5 stars was the steak itself is paper thin and shrunk when cooked to leave all the edge breading empty of meat. I prefer the breading to be flaky like fried chicken. This was smooth like fish and chips. The flavor made up for it though. $50 for two people, to include a $15 t-shirt, is unheard of these days! Great value. The problem started with the menu, the prices were not accurate to the bill which is ILLEGAL! We ordered the brisket sandwich and got 80% toast and two measly slices of brisket. With a side of 8 fries.. maybe. This was advertised as 20.95 but I was charged 21.95 The flavors are all there with great sauce but terrible portion sizes for the prices. The chicken fried steak was plentiful. The added gravy added to the flavor of the meat. My only gripe was that the patty could have used some seasoning. Beyond that, there was constant customers arriving. The decorations were all Texas related. The waitress told me that Monday was the only day the restaurant serves their famous fried chicken. I would go back. The atmosphere is interesting, they have license plates hung up around the restaurant as well as taxidermy animals. It makes you want to order a beer. The server was a really nice lady. We ordered Mac and Cheese and she informed us that they put gravy in the Mac and cheese, which I found odd but ordered it anyway. Me and my husband decided to finally stop by and try this place out for lunch. The location is good and the inside had nice decor. We were right away greeted and sat down. His bun looks like it had a bite taken out of it too LOL Took me a lot not to laugh out loud when our food was brought to us because our poor server was already embarrassed it had taken so long and had to explain they had run out of hamburger buns.. during early lunch hour.. This place had nice people but the food was not up to expectations and why was everything got cold and dry when the place was not busy at all! We were visiting friends in Phoenix and they took us here, one of their favorite places. Fun place! Lots of Texas and Arizona memorabilia on the walls, homey and welcoming atmosphere. The server was attentive and non-optrusive. Food was delicious. I had the brisket sandwich...done to perfection! The only complaint (may be unfair to drop the number of stars for this.) I have is for their margarita (I am a expert margarita drinker!) I could barely drink it but wouldn't let it go to waste! Some margaritas have this strange taste, I think guave. We were sat at a booth on the far right initially, but had to move to the opposite side due to the pungent smell of BO. Smelled around and it was coming out of the wall. Picked this place after looking at the reviews for best chicken fried steak. At first look when it arrived, the steak was huge. However, not only was it the most tasteless, but the actual meat inside it was like paper thin. Added note, the mashed potatoes were cold. Maybe because I had the gravy on the side. I contemplated giving a review, but it was a long drive for us to get here. I think at one time this was the dive place that delivered real grub, but over time (and lack of cleaning all the items that cover the walls), this place needs a complete overhaul :( read more

Today they are busy, it's Mother's Day. Service is good. Ambiance is great. Food is good. My grandson ordered catfish also. Just before we left my daughter asked for peach pie to go. It looks delicious. They did bring a slice of apple pie as it was Mother's Day. We three on it till it was gone. It was very good better than any I've eaten in a lot of places. It was even warm. The waitress was kind and checked on us several times. We mentioned no tartar sauce for the fish and she says oh my goodness and rushed back and brought it right to us. Why it wasn't put on the plate to start with. We have no idea, but it doesn't matter. It is a country Texas place. It's been there for years and we go there every once in a while. Prices are very reasonable, and we love the ambience of the place with the car tags from all over, their cap now in the ceiling, some of the hats around the room and posters. My grandson remembers it with more hats and car tags. I don't really remember the hats, but I enjoy looking at the car tags and see where they're from. It's a great place to visit. Don't expect it to be one of these top hat, places, jeans and a T-shirt or jeans skirt and shirt are just fine cowboy boots or tennis shoes even flip-flops if you have a western hat that you usually wear or you can wear it in or a baseball cap. I'd have to say it's cozy, but I don't know about intimate. It's an enjoyable place where groups can go or just a couple or even a single person. I have not been to the bathroom in several years but quite a number of years back, they were small, which didn't really matter to me as I'm not big anyway. We always enjoy going there. My favorite dishes are prime rib, catfish and chicken fried chicken all of which are very good and will not break the bank. I didn't put much in because it was so much noise there at the restaurant but then again it's Mother's Day so it was busy. I considered average although I read other reviews that thought it was too noisy but then I wonder if they've really been to Texas establishment. I've lived in Oklahoma, and most of the places are noisy. I've lived in Arkansas, the same and even in Missouri. Likewise in California and even here in Phoenix. Restaurants are where people order the food and sit and talk and visit. I expect the noise unless I'm going to a really expensive place and I do expect it to be a bit quieter because the clientele will normally be different. I tell you this was the draw of the straws when we got to Arizona to find some place to eat. It just so happens that this kind of fit the bill for what we were looking for. We wanted some place that was casual, that had drinks, and had barbecue. We were more than pleasantly surprised, the menu was terrific the food was huge, and I mean huge it came on platters. Our waitress was more than friendly and helpful when it comes to choosing our dishes. And trust me she makes one heck of a cocktail. It was just what I needed after a Long Day's flight I wish I could have spent the whole evening there.
