Strictly breakfast and lunch. They close early every afternoon. It's very small and quaint. They have good sandwiches but breakfast os what brings us in. The BEST oatmeal/cream of wheat-cooked to order. Delicious. Most of the patrons are regulars. Everyone seems to know each other. Most of the servers are friendly, but there is one in particular who is quite frankly the definition of grumpy old lady. She never smiles, and has literally just tossed menus at us. Walked in and my mom and I were told to sit wherever, had different employees greet, bring drinks, and take our order but the one who did take our order was kinda rude she never smiled when I changed my mind at the last minute and even apologized profusely she gave me an annoyed look. My mom even asked if it was just her or if I thought she was kinda mean. Food came out quickly ordered a turkey sandwich with cheesy vegetable soup and a tuna melt with the same soup. My tuna melt was very delicious and my mom enjoyed her turkey too, shes a fan a thickly sliced turkey. This cute, little breakfast place failed to disappoint. I walked in on a gloomy Monday morning around 9 am and was surprised to see a full house of smiling faces. We were seated and had our orders taken immediately. The breakfast crepe was phenomenal!! It came with a crepe filled with egg, cheese, and bacon as well as perfectly cooked hashbrowns on the side. I have been coming to this dinner for years trying to support family owned businesses and because they HAD the best food and a friendly service. But I was really disappointed this last time when I was hoping to have the same experience as always and found out otherwise. I understand that a restaurant can be busy sometimes but I think one shouldn't have to wait over 30 mins for service. Although they were courteous and offer apologies, one gets really shaken by the fact that other people that had arrived after me were getting their orders first. This is the epiphany of the Riverside that I love: old, classic, and full of love. Does that make sense? I went with a couple of classmates around brunch time. It's a small little place that was full of seniors. The portions were a tad on the bigger side. I ordered the hash which I asked for it crispier than normal and that it would be okay if it was a little burnt. It came out exactly how I wanted it to be. The coffee was surprisingly good. Yummy yummy food... this is a hole in the wall gem. Prices are good and they cook the food right. Corned beef and hash browns are the right amount of crispy and soft. I went with my family on a Sunday morning. Our waitress was kind, prompt and provided just overall great service. The food was just ok though. My husband ordered a eggs Benedict plate and the gravy just wasn't that good.(it was covered with gravy not hollandaise) I had eggs toast and a ham steak with hashbrowns. The quiche was good but a little bland.* The veggie beef soup was full of veggies and shredded beef. It had a very light flavor which was a refreshing surprise. XD *I noticed a lot of the regulars who come here to eat are in the senior citizen age range. This is probably why my quiche was on the bland side and my soup was on the lighter side. It was delicious nonetheless. The chicken tortilla soup kind of confused me. It wasn't like any other chicken tortilla soup I had ever had. It was more of a chicken chili minus all the beans plus other veggies, cheese and chips. Worth trying. -Menu: There's just so much. The standard menu is basically almost any breakfast item you could probably think of plus quiches, soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers, and pie. They also have baked goods at the counter. What I really like is that there's also a calendar of the specials for the month available at the counter. I really like that they make that available to customers. That way we can come in when our favorite specials are available. Verdict: 4.5 stars. I wish I'd discovered The Soup Shoppe sooner. It really is a gem. The people there are friendly and the reasonably priced food reminds me of that of a restaurant from my hometown before it changed owners. My only complaint is that the food could do with more salt or seasoning in general which is why I couldn't give it the full five stars. I will come back! read more

We were given menus & server #1 was attentive & immediately took our drink order. Ok we knew what we wanted and were ready to order our meals. The water would be great.. hmmm.. Server #3.. looks over at us.. So I smiled and asked if we could have 2 small waters please? She smiles and returns with 1 Large cup. Oh ok.. thanks would we be able to get 1 small cup? She returns with a small cup of water..oh ok. Another 2 tables come in. Our food arrives. Simple. Mom-n-Pop would probably be a better description Food-wise. Pretty good. I ordered a Turkey potpie and I was surprised at how big it was. The crust was good and flakey on the top, and doughy on the sides. Kind of what you would expect a homemade potpie to taste like. And it comes with a salad or soup. I opted for salad. =/ thought it would be the better choice. Service-wise. I don't know what everyone is complaining about. I left my money at home, and they were willing to let me come back the next day to pay. Apparently the first person who took my order didn't request them. I wasn't interested in waiting another 30 minutes for my the missing food.
