Walked in and my mom and I were told to sit wherever, had different employees greet, bring drinks, and take our order but the one who did take our order was kinda rude she never smiled when I changed my mind at the last minute and even apologized profusely she gave me an annoyed look. My mom even asked if it was just her or if I thought she was kinda mean. Food came out quickly ordered a turkey sandwich with cheesy vegetable soup and a tuna melt with the same soup. My tuna melt was very delicious and my mom enjoyed her turkey too, shes a fan a thickly sliced turkey. One of those restaurants that have been there for a while and just tried. The thanksgiving thursday open face turkey meal was delicious. The BEST oatmeal/cream of wheat-cooked to order. Delicious. Most of the patrons are regulars. Everyone seems to know each other. Most of the servers are friendly, but there is one in particular who is quite frankly the definition of grumpy old lady. She never smiles, and has literally just tossed menus at us. This cute, little breakfast place failed to disappoint. I walked in on a gloomy Monday morning around 9 am and was surprised to see a full house of smiling faces. We were seated and had our orders taken immediately. The breakfast crepe was phenomenal!! It came with a crepe filled with egg, cheese, and bacon as well as perfectly cooked hashbrowns on the side. I have been coming to this dinner for years trying to support family owned businesses and because they HAD the best food and a friendly service. But I was really disappointed this last time when I was hoping to have the same experience as always and found out otherwise. Although they were courteous and offer apologies, one gets really shaken by the fact that other people that had arrived after me were getting their orders first. This is the epiphany of the Riverside that I love: old, classic, and full of love. Does that make sense? I went with a couple of classmates around brunch time. It's a small little place that was full of seniors. The portions were a tad on the bigger side. I ordered the hash which I asked for it crispier than normal and that it would be okay if it was a little burnt. It came out exactly how I wanted it to be. The coffee was surprisingly good. Yummy yummy food... this is a hole in the wall gem. Prices are good and they cook the food right. Corned beef and hash browns are the right amount of crispy and soft. Their chocolate chip pancakes are super chocolatey. And their tuna melt and Manhattan sandwiches are well made- not soggy. Love their Cole slaw and their potato salad. My husband ordered a eggs Benedict plate and the gravy just wasn't that good.(it was covered with gravy not hollandaise) I had eggs toast and a ham steak with hashbrowns. QUICHES! :D But seriously, Food: I looked over the menu and couldn't decide so I went with spinach and mushroom quiche special on the specials board which came with a choice of a bunch of different sides. I opted for a soup, namely the veggie beef soup because how can you go to a restaurant with "soup" in its name and not try the soup? The quiche was good but a little bland.* The veggie beef soup was full of veggies and shredded beef. It had a very light flavor which was a refreshing surprise. I was expecting a heavier beefier stew type soup but that's okay. ...That's just inches I won't be adding to my waistline anyway. XD *I noticed a lot of the regulars who come here to eat are in the senior citizen age range. This is probably why my quiche was on the bland side and my soup was on the lighter side. It's more healthy that way. Plus you can always add abut you can't subtract seasonings. Service: My waitress was was nice. I got the the crab and asparagus quiche (because its so hard to find a good quiche!) and the chicken tortilla soup. The crab and asparagus quiche was delicious and more flavorful than the spinach and mushroom. Definitely recommend. I should note that the crab used was actually imitation crab and not real crab. It was delicious nonetheless. The chicken tortilla soup kind of confused me. It wasn't like any other chicken tortilla soup I had ever had. It was more of a chicken chili minus all the beans plus other veggies, cheese and chips. Worth trying. -Menu: There's just so much. The standard menu is basically almost any breakfast item you could probably think of plus quiches, soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers, and pie. They also have baked goods at the counter. What I really like is that there's also a calendar of the specials for the month available at the counter. I really like that they make that available to customers. That way we can come in when our favorite specials are available. Verdict: 4.5 stars. I wish I'd discovered The Soup Shoppe sooner. It really is a gem. The people there are friendly and the reasonably priced food reminds me of that of a restaurant from my hometown before it changed owners. My only complaint is that the food could do with more salt or seasoning in general which is why I couldn't give it the full five stars. I will come back! read more

When we were there there was a few regulars in there and we felt they were not as attentive to us as they seemed more distracted and interested in the regulars that were eating there at the same time. They were not rude or anything just didn't really pay much attention to us. But other than that, it was a cute little quick breakfast/lunch spot. We would gladly return for the food alone. As you walk in, notice the specials board on the wall to your left. You will find some of the tastiest things they serve advertised there. If you're lucky to walk in on a Wednesday, you might find the special to be stuffed peppers, Swiss steak, or Sloppy Joes. Thursdays they serve a turkey special. I was a little disappointed with this place. As a first timer coming to this place, there are no signs that say to seat yourself so me and my friend just stood there for a few minutes until finally a server told us we could sit anywhere. It was kind of off putting to start off with. I ordered the fruit waffle with strawberries that is also supposed to come with whipped cream. When I got my waffle it was only topped with strawberries. I'm not sure why there was no whip cream on top so that was disappointing. Next time they should have a sign that says you can seat yourself.
