First time here and I'm not a huge fan. Ordered 3 things and it was nearly $50. Waiting 30 mins and the food was mid honestly not worth $50 or the 30 min wait. Look at the fries we had a bite or two but it barely had any sauce or meat $13-$14 for a small portion isn't worth it. read more

The meat had so much flavor that I didn't even need to add any extra sauce. You can tell the quality right away. My mom ordered the brisket melt and you can imagine how good that was too. The place was pretty quiet when we went, but the server was very nice and handled everything alone, bringing the food out in about 10 minutes. Stopped by Urban Skillet in Riverside for brunch and overall had a good experience, mainly because of the food. The restaurant has a casual, trendy brunch vibe and the menu is full of creative options that sounded really good. We tried the Brisket S'Mac Wrap, the Eggcelent Morning, and the truffle fries. The brisket wrap was flavorful and filling, with a nice balance of savory and cheesy. The Eggcelent Morning was solid comfort food and definitely satisfied a brunch craving. The truffle fries were crispy, well-seasoned, and a great shareable side. Service was the one downside. It was not very attentive, and we waited longer than expected for check-ins and refills. It was not terrible, but noticeable enough to impact the experience. Not to mention, it was not very busy at all around the time weren't, which was on a Wednesday around noon. I know they are promoting non gmo and no antibiotics but damn.. at least make it bigger. This location used to be an Indian restaurant and now it seems to be a $14 burger joint selling halal grass fed burgers. The interior is pretty normal for a fast food place with big TVs that were showing images instead of TV. We arrived near opening time and were able to make our orders quickly. They eventually served our burgers over the glass divider which was kind of strange. Otherwise, service was fine for essentially fast food. The food itself was fine but IMHO not so spectacular as to justify the price. The sweet potato fries we got were a little under fried which is probably healthier but not as satisfying. The chicken burger was tasty but would have been better with more sourness in the Cole slaw or sauce. The impossible burger was meh. Definitely had better. My colleague got a beef burger and didn't make any comments so I assume it was also fine but not amazing. I'll come back sometime to try a beef burger but for now, I'm not holding my breath. read more

I liked the official food art pictures enough to stop by yesterday. In particular, the wrap stuffed with BBQ brisket and macncheese [sic.] seemed like a good place to start. It wasn't terribly busy a little after noon, one table with three guys and a small family in the back. None had food on the tables and appeared to be there for a while. Anyhow, I ordered almost immediately, the guy was nice and I grabbed a small table to wait. After about 15 minutes I was starting to get antsy, and the food was only going to the other two tables. It seems they waited a good deal longer than myself. After a false start (a late item to another table) my wrap arrived. An apology regarding the wait was mentioned, and appreciated. Taste and appearance: Well, it didn't really resemble the official photo, nor could it possibly be eaten by hand without a colossal mess. Moreover, the macncheese was very loose, and until I ate the second half very little brisket was encountered. Apparently it was lopsided in distribution instead of blended. The tortilla in the official photo appeared to be slightly grilled to warm it up. Not so here. In fact, it tasted and behaved exactly like a lukewarm tortilla from the bag. The brisket was buried in the sauce so it tasted OK, but non-distinct. This restaurant is where the old Indian restaurant Masala Mischief used to be. To their credit the ambiance & the look of the restaurant has vastly improved. The girl who took my order did it efficiently with a smile and great service. The food I ordered; Burger: Another reviewer mentioned the "structural integrity" of the burger and I 100% agree. The burger is messy, falls apart quickly and you need a good amount of napkins to wipe your face after each bite. This is due to them pairing the wrong bun/bread with the kind of burger they are serving. The bread is the really soft, shiny, pillowy kind that pairs well on really thin smashed burgers - but this burger patty is more substantial and I believe with a different bun this issue would be resolved. The meat according to the signage is 100% grass fed halal beef with no antibiotics added. Whether that is 100% true I don't know but I can say that the meat was delicious, no funky smell, high quality and filling. Fries: I ordered the "urban fries" which is regular fries topped with cheese, special sauce and a burger patty chopped up. This was "so-so". The fries were similar to low quality cafeteria or grocery store fries and the toppings were lacking. If you're going to do a "loaded fries" then go ahead and load them up and don't skimp. For the price, the value and quality - these fries did not do it for me. Tip to owners: instead of a burger patty chopped up, load them up with ground beef taco style meat. Fountain Drink: 3:50 is a bit high even with free refills but it is what it is I suppose. Pet peeve: One thing I absolutely dread at restaurants is when your order is brought out piece by piece. This is not a 3 course or 5 course meal - the burger and fries should be served at the same time. This is typically due to an inefficient and/or inexperienced kitchen staff. With new restaurants opening and closing so fast - hopefully the owners heed some of these reviews and see how they can improve going forward. They have the right pieces in place, just need to tweak and fine tune some things to ensure their longevity. Lastly, the meat quality wasn't enough to justify the value and experience at this time. The only thing that was a bit of a pain was they were cutting Jalapeños behind the counter and the mist that comes off of those made us cough uncontrollably. I'm not sure if it was the owner or manager that helped us but he was very friendly, we were greeted and helped right away, food was made quickly. There was only two people making the food during lunch rush and they still managed to be friendly, that speaks good about a business. All burgers were made perfect and meat was juicy and flavorful, the buns were so soft The only thing was I wished my egg was more runny. The buffalo fries were delicious, chicken was good and crunchy . We went on a Wednesday afternoon and the place was empty. That's never really a good sign when walking into a spot and it leaves a bad first impression. It was clean, though, so that was a good start. The girl at the counter was nice and she was patient with us while we figured out what to try. We ordered two truffle burgers, the original skillet burger, skillet fries, buffalo chicken fries, truffle fries and three fountain drinks. The flavor of the meat itself was good but they didn't season anything on the burgers, so you're only tasting the ingredients themselves. The caramelized onions weren't very well done so they still had a bit of a raw taste. The truffle burgers dripped all over the trays so we assumed it was the mushrooms because the original skillet burger didn't drip at all. There wasn't any truffle flavor in the truffle burger so that was disappointing. They only put one piece of the halal bacon on it which is odd as every burger I've ever ordered anywhere else has had two pieces. The fries were good. This place is overpriced. It was $88 for three of us and that was just ridiculous to me. I know everything is pricey these days but this is just a little burger spot in the University Village downtown. There's nothing special about the vibe or the decor and for that much money, we expected to at least be blown away by the food. That just didn't happen. Update - After posting this review, the owner reached out and resolved the issue very professionally. We did receive the refund and appreciate that they took the initiative to make things right. We loved going to Urban Skillet and would order the burgers all the time. In June we ordered a meal worth $58 through their website and we did not end up getting our food delivered. We called and informed the branch to which they initially told us it was impossible, customer service was horrible. We then asked them for a picture to prove if the food had been delivered, they did not have that and so told us they would refund the amount. Its been over 3 months, and after talking to them multiple times we have still not received the refund. Highly unprofessional on their part! read more

I live down the street so I like checking out new food establishments. The photos for the burgers were very enticing so I dropped by for a taste. I ordered the truffle burger and the bbq meat fries. I forgot the name but included the photos. The burger looked great but when I picked it up, it fell apart! It was so greasy. Like they drenched it in oil. The bread was so soggy and it could not keep everything together. It was such an unpleasant experience but my biggest gripe was that they didn't season the beef patty. It was bland and needed salt and pepper. The reason I could taste the meat clearly was because I was eating broken chunks of it since there was no structural integrity at all. For a $15 gourmet looking burger, I really expected more. I saw their shipment of frozen fries being delivered so if they taste like that, you know why.
