For 15 years we've been long time customers of this hidden Riverside staple, a cute place to feel at home, chat with locals, and eat a filling meal. Which is why it truly breaks my heart to leave this review, but it needs to be known that the new owners are digging this place to the ground. Food is not the same, it lacks flavor, smaller portions and higher prices, slow and negligent service, and an unfriendly owner. We came in for breakfast Sunday morning & had a horrible experience, from slow service, forgetting to take drink order, forgetting to bring kids drinks (and made us wait an additional 10 minutes to bring them out), watered down coffee, mushy unflavored potatoes and corn beef hash looking like it was uncooked and dump straight from the can onto the plate! NEVER have we had this type of experience here, never! People who came in far after us were getting their food before us. Upon leaving I made a comment to my husband on being sadly disappointed of what we experienced, a family waiting outside for a table overheard us talking and asked if we noticed the food was different & if we had bad service. We shared with them the noticeable difference & they too had experienced the same things on a recent visit, but decided to give it another chance on that particular day. I've been here a couple times after I heard from a few different people about how good it is. And they were right. Service is a little slow, but the food is worth the wait. Tastes homemade, but better. My father in law said the biscuits and gravy are the best he's ever had, and the French toast is delicious. I absolutely adored this cozy little spot in the Brockton Arcade. My hubby and I came in with our toddler for Sunday morning breakfast, and I just really appreciated that the server brought over a toy basket for my son to play with. It was awesome! If I could give this place zero stars I would. My husband and I arrived here at 11:03am. Placed our order for a patty melt, beef sandwich and two bowls of soup. Fast forward to 11:50, and no food. I asked to settle up my coffee purchase because at that point we were fed up. Magically our food appeared 2 minutes after voicing my irritation. Even more annoying was that management knew of our irritation and acted like it didn't matter. No apology. No attempt to rectify the situation. Unfortunately the food wasn't worth the wait. My husbands sandwich was bland. The beef looked and tasted as if it had been boiled and then warmed on the flattop. My patty melt was dry and also bland and was only edible due to the soggy "grilled" bread that gratefully had been seasoned. We finished the soup which was mediocre, then took half our sandwiches home. I don't understand how a) patrons seated after us received their order before us (also soup and sandwiches), b) why no one even attempted to address the situation c) there is no fryer here so why did it take close to an hour to make two sandwiches and put soup in a bowl when I spotted two cooks in the back. $23 later and I'm beyond irritated. If I didn't have a moral compass, I would've caused a scene or just walked out without paying. I read all the glowing yelp reviews and thought wow can't go wrong here, boy was I wrong. I'm currently parked at Butch's grinders to get a real sandwich by people who actually care about their customers. read more

This place we found it one day while we were waiting on the little green onion we decided to give it a try and it was OK we like it and we started coming here instead of the green onion until this Sunday when we came in a girl told us that they had a reservation for 20 people which we understood and she got our name and we went outside and wait Because the 20 people reserve the second floor so they only had open the bottom floor we were the only ones waiting for a table. five minutes later two women and two kids came in they put in their name and they were complaining about waiting! they walk into a clothing store to waste time when they come back they asked me if they call there name and I say no!! A couple minutes later some lady comes up and call the other lady's name and she say oh I'm so sorry I only have a table for four people!!! In my opinion I feel like we were the ones that we got there first we were waiting longer time than them I just wish I say something in the moment but I'm not that kind of person that likes to make drama about a table Just next time don't ask for names if you not going to go through the list how should be!!!! My husband and I have been going to the Soup Shoppe for years for breakfast. I love the oatmeal, the best I've ever had, anywhere! They make wonderful biscuits (homemade) and gravy and wonderful omelets, and not very expensive at all. It's an older establishment, and not what other people would consider the best atmosphere, but the food keeps you coming back for more.... And my husband and I really love the old Brockton Arcade, which I hope they never "update" and ruin. read more

Okay so the food here is quite good, I will say that, definitely come for breakfast but be very wary of pricing when ordering. It adds up soooooo quickly. Waffle combo is $10.49, whipped cream and fruit is $2.49 and then with an order of biscuits and gravy at $5.09 your order is almost $19 Add a coffee at $2.45 and for one person alone you've spent almost $22. I can believe I've lived in Riverside my whole life and never been to this little place. I am very picky when it comes to sandwich shops but when my friend told me about their fresh carved Turkey sandwich on croissants or squaw bread, I had to try. This place is a local favorite so when you get there expect to wait a bit. Definitely worth the wait. I got the Turkey on squaw bread with avocado and a mushroom with wild rice soup, delish! Had this restaurant bookmarked for a long time, having read that they serve real turkey lunches on Thursdays. Lunches, since the Soupe Shoppe closes at 3:00 pm. Had other dealings in Riverside on Thursday, so it was time to check this place out! Don't do what I did - despite having mapquest directions - circle the area, repeatedly for me, looking for a 2-story house. The Soup Shoppe is in the "Brockton Arcades", cute small shopping center and the 2nd story mentioned in some reviews is in what would have been the attic. The restaurant (3 - 4 stars): Old fashioned, cute, seat yourself anywhere/feel right at home kind of place. Clean. A lot of the customers seem to be regulars, know each other and the waitresses. Very welcoming. The food (5 stars): My soup was potato soup (3 stars). Main entree (5 stars and would give higher): Turkey (real turkey) - a generous pile of turkey on a slice of bread, mashed potatoes (homemade), plenty of homemade gravy and a side dish of cranberry sauce. The service (3 stars): Was okay, could have been better. Price: $ 8.90 something, including tax. Can't beat that. And i could not finish all. Had a to-go-box. for the price paid, and for my hometown of rivvy, it's bomb. one of the two best breakfast places in the entire city. i ate here growing up and it's still as good as i remember. i would eat any savory item off of that menu, and probably have. i usually only eat breakfast here, but i have had the open face turkey sandwich lunch special a few times, and it's worth it. it's no pre-sliced turkey. the service is fast and friendly, and the ambiance is welcoming family style. p.s. if you're short on bucks, the morning specials are what it's about. favorite dishes: biscuits and gravy (all day, everyday- the biscuits aren't made in-house but that gravy makes up for it; it's still my favorite b&g), kitchen sink omelette, and the polish sausage scramble. read more

We typically head to Little green onions for breakfast but there was a wait so we walked over to here and I'm so happy we did! This is a great little restaurant. Walk in and seat yourself or head upstairs. Breakfast specials are such a deal at under 5 bucks with a great variety of options. I had the biscuit and gravy with egg and bacon. The sausage in the gravy wasn't great but overall the meal was really good. I tried some of my daughter's pancake and it was delicious. The servers were all very friendly and attentive. I went here looking for soup and unfortunately when I went they only had a vegetable soup why name yourself the soup shoppe and only have one soup. I arrived around 11 and I guess soup is not sold in the morning I also asked for the special of the day and was told it would not be available till lunch time. I then asked what would you recommend since this is my first time here lady shrugged her shoulders and said I don't know it's all good its what you want. I have been coming here for many years- my younger kids pretty much grew up here, coming here every day, killing time between the hour that "big-kid" school started and when pre-school began at 9. Our first time at this quaint little establishment, fast service. Mom ordered the ham steak and eggs with skillet potatoes and onion. I ordered the mushroom spinach quiche and a side soup of polish sausage and bean. We're both very satisfied and the portions were huge. The soup tasted like bbq beans with some hot dogs and potatoes thrown in. Hearty. The quiche was chock full of spinach and mushrooms, no skimping here. Took my daughter here for breakfast. Bad first impression. Stood there for 2 minutes with my daughter in my arms before i was even acknowledged. When i finally was noticed, they seated us at a dirty table. After a few more minutes the table was cleaned and about 5 minutes after that i was given a menu and asked what i wanted to drink. Sausage and 3 eggs was almost 11 dollars! I wasn't impressed at all. Food was mediocre and potatoes where bland. Excellent little place! All of the soups and sandwiches are homemade. As for soups, we have tried the split pea and vegetable beef and both were delicious!! The sandwiches are just as good. This is a great hidden gem of a place. Space is limited and they fill up fast during lunch. read more
