I have always loved coming here since I moved to Riverside in 2005. They have a great menu and a mom and pop is always preferred over a corporate chain. My only complaint is lack of seating. It would be great if they could eventually expand into one of their neighbor's spaces so that they could accomodate twice as many guests. Old coffee shop atmosphere with truly excellent food. It's all homecooked fare, from mac & cheese (yum!) to sloppy joes to really incredible turkey sandwiches. I've tried several soups and have yet to find one I don't love. Their baked bean polish sausage soup (yes that's right) is really to die for! But save room for dessert because their pie is wonderful. Try the German chocolate. And the banana cream is fabulous. I tried to figure out how they kept the bananas so fresh so I asked if they cut the bananas up when the pie is ordered and stuck the pieces in, and that's exactly what they do! You will never find a brown, slimey banana in one of their pies. If you go for lunch, go early or late, because it's SRO at peak lunch hour. This is a treasure of a place. You're looking at $10-14 for lunch depending on if you get pie or not, so it's fairly reasonable. And you get plenty! read more

This place is a pretty decent and cheap place to eat. It's s tiny dive diner that was consistently full of people when I went there. My friends and I ordered a few items off their breakfast menu. First off, their crepes are pretty good. Not the best, but way better than the crispy fortune cookie ones at the Asian places around town and way better than iHop (I think anything is better than iHop, so not saying much). Giant portions and standard diner food. As far as soups are concerned, friends had the chili which they said was pretty tasty. I had some eggs and hashbrowns which were mediocre at best. My friend said that his pancakes were pretty decent and they were huge. Their belgian waffle was a bit soft, but I've had worse. On weekdays, their breakfast specials are like $3.59 which is such a steal. The service was friendly and the clientele was mostly senior citizens with a few hipsters scattered in between. I would say that their sweet breakfast outshines Little Green Onions but I have yet to try a good portion of the menu. Definitely coming back as the romanticism of local business is starting to dwindle in Riverside, with the advent of the Riverside Plaza and expansion of what's going on in the Tyler area. They close pretty early but are open on weekends. I will definitely be back, I really enjoyed myself here. They also have homemade pie. read more

I am so happy I found this place. The dingy decor lowered my expectations, however the food was incredibly good. I stopped in for breakfast one morning and was pleasantly surprised. The portions were quite large and the food quality was excellent. My order came with a cup of delicious fresh fruit and an avocado sliced on top. They have a fairly large menu for the size of the restaurant which includes all of the standard breakfast items along with breakfast burritos. I'm looking forward to going back to try the soup at lunch. read more

It was a cold day, soup and sandwiches sounded delicious My mom had recommended this place we always see it so we thought we would give it a try. Me and my sister walked in nobody acknowledged the fact that we stood thereat the doorway.. there was nobody asking if we want to put a name in like a normal restaurant or to tell us to have a seat when there is one open.. People walked right in and sat down, so we seen someone leaving a table and just sat down after they left (figured that was the thing to do). Well it took some time for an employee to notice we were sitting and the table needed to be cleaned. So there went another 15 minutes. It was a horrible waiting experience. The food was really good. We usually have a good meal. Usually good service. Today....lousy! Took a long time to be acknowledged once we sat down. Long time to get our drinks (ordered twice). Others around us that came after us ordered and were served. When I complained, server apologized but said "it's still gonna be a little longer". Really? Never got a refill on my drink. Love this place!! My husband and I go there at least 3-4 times a month for breakfast. Service is always friendly and fast. Yes it has the same ol people there and they are all a little older but it is nice to see the regulars. That doesn't happen much in this day and age. Food is consistently good. Chicken Fried Steak is good. The Monterey Quiche is the best!! Very tasty. Nice that they have a choice of fruit instead of potatoes too and have great specials for breakfast and lunch during the week. My friends & I have eaten at this restaurant many times. We work in the area. Turkey special on Thursday is particularly good! Side salad ok but unlike most restaurants - lack of tomatoes in the salad (not even one little tomato.) Only iceberg lettuce & a few slices/pieces of purple cabbage. One little tomato would be nice. This is the only restaurant I have ever been to that does not put even one tomato in your side salad. You can also get soup instead but we prefer salads with weather warm/hot. Staff: One server, I think her name is Anna or Ana is friendly and always accommodating, pleasant personality. She is that way to other customers at other tables. Treats everyone in a friendly way and is helpful when you need anything. Hispanic lady. Staff: A young woman who was tall, brown hair - maybe in her 20's very nice.. (awhile back since we saw her) but we don't go there all the time so not sure if she is still there or not. Had a friendly attitude! Although she was very busy she came back to see if we needed anything. Staff: One woman (don't know her name but I think she has worked there a long, long time and in the picture of the wall - she is wearing a striped shirt/blouse and has her hair in a ponytail, blondish hair. She wears glasses when we see her in the restaurant & seems to leave around 2 PM (maybe end of shift.) She is not friendly at all to most people. I guess she has a few customers she knows and is ok to them but for the most part she is not friendly at all. Seems to usually have a scowl on her face and if she is our server we kind of cringe if we need something else - how do I explain it. She makes you feel like she is being inconvenienced if you try to get her attention after she has taken your initial order. We feel sort of afraid to ask her for anything - more water, more coffee or anything else. Just normal things customers would want. She never returns to the table later to ask if we need anything. We have to try to get her attention after 20 minutes or so of being there and she will finally come over. Just does not come across as a friendly server. We realize we are not her only customers and she is very busy but that is not a reason to be unfriendly or come across as being inconvenienced if you need something else. She is working in a business where she needs to have a good attitude and be nice to customers. She may not even be aware that she comes across this way to customers. I don't know why she seems to treat some customers in this unsatisfactory manner. Perhaps she should look into what good customer service means and try to be more friendly to ALL your customers & not make them feel uncomfortable. I thought at first maybe it is just us (my two friends or one friend I come there with) but come to find out that a number of people feel the same way. Sometimes I am there on my own. We are not loud people or anything - we are respectful to our servers. We always thank her when she bring the food. We are not demanding customers We always leave a tip but just would appreciate a kinder and more friendly attitude of this server. We do not ask for separate checks and we are polite to her. I should add -Yes, everyone has a bad day and we know this but this particular server with striped shirt, blondish hair, pony tail is ALWAYS LIKE THIS! We have observed her negative manner with some other customers too, not just us.. We sometimes go in the morning for breakfast and other times we go mid-day or early afternoon around 1:00 PM. I'm sorry to say but we hope, hope, hope that she is not our server that day. The other servers are fine - no problems with any other servers that we have had when eating at this restaurant. I guess there aren't really that many. I think she is oblivious to how she comes across or just has her "few selected customers" who she is friendly with but not friendly or accommodating to other customers. She has "has a few customers that she treats well" but not us or some other customers we have observed her with. I noticed from reading other customer's reviews that there are other people who feel the same way. We're just hoping that maybe one day she will have a change of attitude and express a friendly demeanor to ALL her customers. And not make people feel uncomfortable if they ask for other things during their meal. She should really make an effort to return to all tables she is serving and ask if they would like more coffee, iced tea, water, etc. I don't think that is asking too much. We always leave her and all servers a 15% tip. So even though she does not really accommodate us we still do leave her a tip. * Note: There is another employee also pony tail & about same build but more brownish hair. She is nice.
