The Soup Shoppe is a great family owned breakfast spot that is a staple to riverside history. It has been a family owned and operated restaurant from the beginning, from one of the previous workers taking ownership of the restaurant back in 2023. All of the workers get along like family and they treat their guest as such. It is a nice size restaurant with upstairs and downstairs seating. Music is always at the correct level so you can still hold a conversation. Food is great, they have a great variety of a mix of traditional American and Mexican style dishes. The meals are very satisfying and within a reasonable price range. The coffee is a little on the lighter side but the service and food make up for it all. Many of the ingredients are cooked together in ways that complement each other, so huge shout it to the owner Anna and her staff in taking pride in what they do. Highly recommend trying the many different entrees of the restaurant including their freshly baked muffins!

I am a self proclaimed diner discovery dude. Let's chill out people, I do not take myself that seriously, lol. It was around lunchtime, and I happen to be in the area and found this place. Looked very unassuming from the outside, matter of fact, thought it was just a small soup place. They are located in what appears to be a circa 1960s strip mall, but a well kept one. Now, let's get to the freaking food review! Since their namesake includes the word soup, they were not kidding! I dropped by on a Tuesday and they had quite a few choices on the board. I chose their mushroom and wild rice soup, along with a diner staple, the legendary patty melt. Man oh man, they did not disappoint. The soup was piping hot and so was my patty melt. Coincidence or otherwise, both were definitely hot and fresh... I was a very satisfied lunch diner. The soup was perfectly seasoned and they did not skimp on ingredients. The patty melt was definitely hot and juicy and quite tasty. The service was great as well, and if I remember correctly, the gent who took my order told me he and his parents are the current owners. Definitely worth your time to try for the first time and formulate your own opinions! Date of visit 4.21.26.

My sister and I stumbled across this place, and couldn't be happier we did. If you're a simple, wholesome person, who loves a great breakfast, with a hole in the wall feel, this is the place for you! You can sit down or upstairs, we sat upstairs, and enjoyed a private conversation. We still felt as part of the rest of the restaurant as we would've down stairs. The service was excellent! We were not forgotten about and checked on regularly. The food was AMAZING! So good and at a great price.

Had Sunday brunch here. Private parking lot, majority of seating is inside but they did have one table outside. There's two floors - looks like stairs only, and restrooms are located upstairs just something to be mindful of if incase someone has mobility issues. Service was definitely slow. And it wasn't just our party that felt this way, we had an older gentleman (customer) come up to us and ask if we had placed our order already, we said yes, and he replied that he felt as if he had been forgotten about. Another table sent one of their teenagers downstairs to check on the wait time of their food. So it wasn't just us - seemed as if everyone was a bit frustrated and antsy, wondering where their food was or what was taking so long. As far as the food goes, it tasted fine! Not a lot of flavor in my opinion but it was not bad whatsoever. Just a little plain but still okay.

From the outside I almost missed this place. Luckily the placard caught my eye, because the food is very good - and the restaurant actually IS larger on the inside, including an upstairs area. It's nicely decorated, giving a comfy welcoming feeling. The women's bathroom is even cute, and spacious, and clean. The chicken rice soup was excellent! And it looks like they always have turkey items on the menu, which is unusual, but very nice to find - turkey being only seasonal in so many restaurants. I think they're only open to 2pm today; but they serve breakfast & lunch until closing. Oh, the waitress was attentive and helpful, even offering to bring an ice tea to go. I really look forward to coming back. This was a great find!

For some reason I've never noticed this small restaurant tucked into the Brockton Street arcade in central Riverside. Part of the older city, one can find lots of small specialty shops in surrounding areas and a number of restaurants too. Craving soup as the weather is slowly transitioning from interminable summer to fall, this came up in the Yelp search. We arrived well after noon but before they close, and found the small but cozy dining room mostly full but with room to accommodate. The setup inside reminds me of a Bavarian house with a small upstairs dining area overlooking the room below. Already decorated for Halloween, it creates a kid-friendly atmosphere. The menu is typical American and Mexican cuisine, more of the former than latter, and breakfast is a big draw as are housemade soups, that vary throughout the week. My tummy said breakfast and the so-called Garbage Plate contains a few of my favorite things, not limited to biscuits and gravy, sausage, bacon, eggs, and home fries with onions and peppers. My gf was feeling Corned Beef Hash, which also includes eggs any style, home fries, and a side of pancakes. A great sampling we thought. Coffee, however, is pretty weak, even for a typical institution style. Hard pass there is my recommendation. Her soup arrived first, shredded beef with vegetables, and we enjoyed the chunky carrots. I thought the breakfast was excellent overall, both of us enjoyed the pancakes. She was on the fence about Corned Beef but everything else was good. I really liked the bacon and biscuits. The gravy too was well seasoned without a heavy hand in the pepper department, and the service was decent except: We requested a side of their kielbasa that never arrived but it wasn't on the bill either so mark that up to either a language barrier or absent mindedness. No matter, we ate our fill and will definitely go back in the future.

Lovely vibe and delicious food. Truthfully, service is usually a bit on the slow side, but it's a small place, everyone is working hard, and there's usually a lot of customers. Servers are also very kind.

We ordered the chicken fried steak and aspen omelette this morning. The turkey in the omelette is amazing...so fresh. And the service was great, the waitress kept coming up the stairs to check on us and the food came out so quick. Returning here for breakfast again. read more

We usually have a good meal. Usually good service. Today....lousy! Took a long time to be acknowledged once we sat down. Long time to get our drinks (ordered twice). Others around us that came after us ordered and were served. When I complained, server apologized but said "it's still gonna be a little longer". Really? Never got a refill on my drink. Never got my toast that she said was coming. Purely lousy service! Be a while before we return. read more

Old coffee shop atmosphere with truly excellent food. It's all homecooked fare, from mac & cheese (yum!) to sloppy joes to really incredible turkey sandwiches. I've tried several soups and have yet to find one I don't love. Their baked bean polish sausage soup (yes that's right) is really to die for! But save room for dessert because their pie is wonderful. Try the German chocolate. And the banana cream is fabulous. I tried to figure out how they kept the bananas so fresh so I asked if they cut the bananas up when the pie is ordered and stuck the pieces in, and that's exactly what they do! You will never find a brown, slimey banana in one of their pies. If you go for lunch, go early or late, because it's SRO at peak lunch hour. This is a treasure of a place. You're looking at $10-14 for lunch depending on if you get pie or not, so it's fairly reasonable. And you get plenty! read more

The shop is one of those mom and pop breakfast and dinner diners the food is excellent we have a couple of chefs have been working there for years the waitresses are very nice the chefs are very polite keep with good atmosphere while working everything is made from scratch the pious are made by a nice lady that works there weekly don't miss it I've been there a a few times and three things I've learned about the restaurant the beef soup is phenomenal they carry Squaw bread which is my favorite, and the pies are homemade not to mention everything is really reasonable if money is in a pinch yet a great place to take the family restaurants are located upstairs there's a couple places to sit up there most of the seating is located downstairs not that many places to sit but it doesn't get that full watch out for Sunday's read more

This place is a pretty decent and cheap place to eat. It's s tiny dive diner that was consistently full of people when I went there. My friends and I ordered a few items off their breakfast menu. First off, their crepes are pretty good. Not the best, but way better than the crispy fortune cookie ones at the Asian places around town and way better than iHop (I think anything is better than iHop, so not saying much). Giant portions and standard diner food. As far as soups are concerned, friends had the chili which they said was pretty tasty. I had some eggs and hashbrowns which were mediocre at best. My friend said that his pancakes were pretty decent and they were huge. Their belgian waffle was a bit soft, but I've had worse. On weekdays, their breakfast specials are like $3.59 which is such a steal. The service was friendly and the clientele was mostly senior citizens with a few hipsters scattered in between. I would say that their sweet breakfast outshines Little Green Onions but I have yet to try a good portion of the menu. Definitely coming back as the romanticism of local business is starting to dwindle in Riverside, with the advent of the Riverside Plaza and expansion of what's going on in the Tyler area. They close pretty early but are open on weekends. I will definitely be back, I really enjoyed myself here. They also have homemade pie. read more

It's not fancy... it's a little diner and that isn't a bad thing. The food is good and it's reasonably priced. The service is pretty friendly. Nothing exciting to see here. Good food, good service, nice people. My daughter maintains that the pancakes are heavenly. They never leave your drink unfilled. I think the decor could use some work, it's rather bland... but hey, it's a sandwich and some soup. read more

I am so happy I found this place. The dingy decor lowered my expectations, however the food was incredibly good. I stopped in for breakfast one morning and was pleasantly surprised. The portions were quite large and the food quality was excellent. My order came with a cup of delicious fresh fruit and an avocado sliced on top. They have a fairly large menu for the size of the restaurant which includes all of the standard breakfast items along with breakfast burritos. I'm looking forward to going back to try the soup at lunch. read more

It was a cold day, soup and sandwiches sounded delicious My mom had recommended this place we always see it so we thought we would give it a try. Me and my sister walked in nobody acknowledged the fact that we stood thereat the doorway.. there was nobody asking if we want to put a name in like a normal restaurant or to tell us to have a seat when there is one open.. People walked right in and sat down, so we seen someone leaving a table and just sat down after they left (figured that was the thing to do). Well it took some time for an employee to notice we were sitting and the table needed to be cleaned. So there went another 15 minutes. It was a horrible waiting experience. The food was really good. Would I go there again...ummm probably not. It was almost like pulling teeth for service. 3 stars for service/friendliness. read more

Actually really enjoyed the food here. Like the mom and pop type feel! Had a really good omelette here. Unfortunately, the waitress made the experience horrible for my wife. They weren't clear on turkey sausage vs turkey and my wife got turkey instead of sausage so I politely asked if we could have it switched. They took our plate and gladly switched it but then my wife could overhear the waitress who took the order completely bad mouthing her and saying rude things about her. My wife wasn't rude at all. I just feel the waitress was upset the order wasn't right and completely forgot her customer service approach because we left shortly after the rude gossip left my wife in tears. Gave us a bad experience so unfortunately we won't be back read more

This is a place where locals go to get a home style meal, or for those whom do not like to cook or can not cook. Reasonable prices and a fun reasturant to go to and have fun. The business is in a small business area on Magnolia Avenue and a fair amount of parking. Also there is parking on the street. A must to go to. read more

Love this place!! My husband and I go there at least 3-4 times a month for breakfast. Service is always friendly and fast. Yes it has the same ol people there and they are all a little older but it is nice to see the regulars. That doesn't happen much in this day and age. Food is consistently good. Chicken Fried Steak is good. The Monterey Quiche is the best!! Very tasty. Nice that they have a choice of fruit instead of potatoes too and have great specials for breakfast and lunch during the week. It is a small place and is tight to sit down but the food and service and the prices make it worth it. Go and Enjoy!! read more

That excitement ended the moment I looked down at my bowl and found a **MAGGOT sitting on top of my rice.** I called the restaurant immediately and calmly explained what happened. They told me to contact DoorDash since that's how I ordered. Fine. I reported it through DoorDash's platform and waited. Then I got a call back from DoorDash -- not to help me, but to relay a message: **Big Sky had contacted them specifically to refuse my refund.** Let that sink in. A customer found a maggot in their food, couldn't eat a single bite of a $54.19 order, and the restaurant's response was to **actively call DoorDash to make sure I didn't get my money back.** I understand that occasionally bugs happen in food service. It's gross, but I was fully prepared to move on had they simply taken responsibility. Instead, they chose to fight a $54 refund over a maggot. That tells you everything you need to know about how this restaurant values its customers. **Eat here at your own risk -- and if something's wrong, you're on your own.**

The Brockton Arcade has a lot of restaurants to go to for breakfast and my family and I are most enticed by the special... aka the cheapest deals. Earlier this week I tried to Soup Shoppe and the atmosphere is very cute and the restaurant is clean. Nothing fancy, just simple and to the point. The waitresses were very polite, but they get really busy so sometimes they do get distracted. I had the waffle combo which was excellent! The cinnamon is so gooood in those waffles! The coffee, bacon, and eggs are also delicious! Cons: The waffles are only made to a certain time in the day so if you do not get there early enough no waffles for you. And sometimes it takes a long time to cash out. You have to walk up to the register to get their attention so that you can pay and be on your way. Other wise A+++++ read more

This cute, little breakfast place failed to disappoint. I walked in on a gloomy Monday morning around 9 am and was surprised to see a full house of smiling faces. We were seated and had our orders taken immediately. The breakfast crepe was phenomenal!! It came with a crepe filled with egg, cheese, and bacon as well as perfectly cooked hashbrowns on the side.
