Sukiyaki broth
Amy Y.

This is a fairly newish individual hot pot station on Yonge just north of Sheppard. There are 2 other locations in addition to this one. The space is a decent size with lots of booths and tables. What is great is that your choices of hot pot fillings can be found on 2 walls so there is less worry of congestion as you are filling your pot. Items are exactly the same on both walls. There are 2 sauce stations as well. We were greeted at the door and then taken to a table. You can then grab a bowl and tongs by the entrance and start filling your bowl. Good selection of everything from a variety of protein (seafood, chicken, meats) to vegetables and noodles. 8 choices of soup base. Soup choices for this visit were beef sukiyaki and bone broth. Flavour was good but there was the addition of MSG to the base. At the end of the meal you receive a complementary vanilla cone. Toppings can be added with an extra charge. Decent experience. Good spot for larger groups.

The foods taste good, especially the duck. You will get 10% discount too if paying by cashread more

We went there for a pre-Father's Day dinner and left disappointed. This was actually our third or…read morefourth visit, and unfortunately each experience has been worse than the last. I was hoping to find something special on the menu. The Peking duck caught my eye at around $70, but then I discovered that almost everything else was extra--lettuce wraps, stir-fried duck meat, fried rice, and soup. By the time you add the extras, the bill is easily another $50 or more, bringing the total to well over $120. We decided to pass, and judging from the dishes we did order, that was probably the right decision. The hot and sour soup had plenty of heat and tang but lacked depth of flavor and was under-seasoned for my taste. Fortunately, we only ordered a small bowl. The deep-fried tofu was bland and forgettable. The stir-fried shrimp was acceptable but nothing special. The biggest disappointment was the sweet and sour pork. I specifically asked the server to make sure the pork was crispy, but it arrived soft and lumpy rather than light and crunchy. Even the complimentary red bean dessert soup was watery and lacked flavor. Our bill came to about $104 for two people. For the quality of the food, I didn't feel it offered good value. Sadly, after several disappointing visits, I don't think we'll be returning.

I ordered a combo which comes with a selection of noodles/chow mein, a small appetizer, and drink. I chose their traditional Lanzhou beef noodle (you also get to choose what type of noodle to get. I got the medium flat noodle). For app, I got their kelp salad which was so refreshing, and a HK style iced tea. My friend was particularly craving their skewers which were a decent size too. I forgot to take pics, but their portions are very generous for the price. Their noodles are hand pulled and you can really tell the difference in the quality. It's more bouncy and filling as they have more substance to them. Their service was very attentive and quick, and while the space of the restaurant is fairly small, there was no wait for 2 of us at 6:30 on a Saturday. Coming with a bigger group may be tougher considering the space. My total bill came to just under $26 after tax and tip, which is very reasonable for the amount and quality of food I got. No complaints at all and I'll definitely be back to an Omni Noodle location for comfort value eats.

Pork chop and pork knuckles rice bento are so good with great prices too! Will definitely come backread more

Hou Kee is a great budget friendly spot for a tasty and filling meal…read more FOOD (4/5) The Longjiang Pork Knuckle Rice is their specialty dish and is their store's namesake. The main portion of the dish is super tender braised pork knuckle (not as weird as it may sound) on a bed of white rice glazed with a house Chinese BBQ sauce. It comes with sides of pickled "sour" veggies (酸菜), cabbage, tofu, and hard boiled egg. The pork knuckle almost melts in your mouth and is so decadent with the BBQ sauce. The sides give nice textural contrast and palette contrast. VALUE (5/5) The pork knuckle rice altogether is $10 plus tax and leaves you full and fulfilled. Great portions and is balanced with good proportion of meat, rice, and veggies. They only take debit or cash. LOCATION (3.5/5) Located on the East side of Yonge St by Northtown Way, it is halfway between Finch and North York Center subway stations. There is paid street parking along Yonge. The store is quite small with 2-3 tables, so would expect to do takeout during peak hours. OVERALL (4.5/5) Really good value for a tasty well rounded meal. I will definitely be returning if I want a quick lunch or dinner with bang for buck. Paired with great flavours and quality of ingredients makes this a nice cheap eats reco!
