Finally lively AYCE hotpot with wagyu. Liuyishou is a popular outfit for traditional hotpot, and here in the GTA they have long moved to AYCE format. This Scarborough location has been around for a long time as seen by the dated interior. Nonetheless it's still popular with some good promos to compete among the huge swath of Asian restaurants in this plaza. We chose an array of hotpot broths including the house special spicy, sukiyaki, pork bone broth & tomato soup. We came here to celebrate a family occasion, and Liuyishou delivered with its good selection of broths, meats, seafood, and veggies. The $8 Wagyu add-on on weekend was a nice upgrade--thinly sliced, tender, and worth trying if you want something a bit more indulgent. The $3.99 all-you-can-drink station was a pleasant surprise too, making it easy to keep refilling without thinking twice. Service was quick even despite it being relatively busy and a bit loud during dinner peak. Note the pricing per adult ($34.99 weekend dinner) excludes the soup base which is about $17 for a large shareable pot or $9 for an individual sized pot per guest so the bill can rack up. The wagyu and drinks are add-ons too. They do have a 2 adult + 1 kid family combo for $73.99 on weekends with one drink pitcher excluding soup base. Decided to come for their lunch AYCE menu which was $26.99 per person and includes the soup base. The inside was quite nice and cozy and seating was comfortable. They have a sauce bar and the washroom is very clean and has mouthwash and floss. They even have feminine hygiene products which is quite thoughtful. Service was pretty good. They came to refill our soup every now and then and food came quite quick. I liked how they offer a big pot or separate individual pots per person. Now on to the actual food, I thought the food was just sooo average. Nothing was bad but at the same time nothing stood out to me... I vastly prefer Daimaru and Haidilao over this place. The soup base here was more bland with less ingredients. The meat was not as tender and fatty. The veggies were fine but the lettuce was a bit bitter. I did like how they have a sauce bar but their soy sauce is VERY salty so be careful. I also wish they had more dessert options. I'm glad I tried it but I don't think I would return considering Daimaru offers the same lunch AYCE at the same price with better food overall and more selections. There's also some cold appetizers, fruits, and fried appetizers in this area too. Also have tea eggs. Order servings are ok, but when re-ordering, slow to come out. For birthday celebrations, you can get a "beef cake" which is sliced beef on top of a huge block of ice. Dessert options are only 3 and none of them were great. read more

Came with my family and friends to enjoy hotpot before she gave birth, and we were seated at the table where we had our own mini pot, we made our sauces and started ordering all the meats and veggies right away. Only thing I found fault is that their soy sauce is so salty; I had to dump almost 2 tablespoons of sugar, and it wasn't even a lot of soy sauce in my bowl, I almost didn't even want to use my dipping sauce anymore as the soup base was good enough not to use any of it. Other than that, the veggies were very fresh and the meats were tender. The waitresses were fast in terms of collecting empty plates, and taking in our orders. This restaurant gets very busy but doesn't take reservations for parties less than five, so we waited over an hour and a half for a table for two. That was pretty annoying, but they give a 12% discount for anyone who waits over an hour. When we actually got to our table the service was great. They brought food very quickly and even though our table wasn't in a central location we never had to wait long for a waiter. They brought the food pretty quickly but a few times they forgot about something we ordered and we had to ask for it again. There is a lot of variety on the menu and everything we ordered was very fresh. The pork bone soup base was delicious and added a lot of flavour. The sauce station had a wide variety of sauces to choose from so we were happy with that. Got tomato & duck with Chinese pickled radish bases, which were good. The sauce bar has fruit & snacks, like Haidilao - but without the surcharge. Actually this place is a bit like a AYCE version of Haidilao. They get 3.5 stars. The tables weren't laid out with spoons, which was weird - it's hard to eat hotpot without a spoon. We had to ask for spoons twice & even then we only got ladles with & without holes. Black pepper chicken was weird. The texture was strange - almost like jelly. It had little chicken flavour. Cuttlefish paste was good: a good cuttlefish flavour & the water chestnut was nice too. Dessert was a choice of Melona bars, boiled glutinous rice balls & white fungus sweet soup. Just a note that there's an additional cost when splitting the pot into multiple soup bases. We got a split pot of Traditional Chonqing Style Spicy Soup Base and Wild Mixed Mushroom Soup Base. All-you-can-eat-oranges. That's an extra star right there because, come on, how many places can you actually get all-you-can-eat oranges. Mandarin buffet? Extra star just for that. I paid $52 after tax+tip which is a bit on the pricey side I think, unless lunch and dinner are separate but most places don't do that anymore. Maybe it's to cover the fresh fruit though. We asked for meat, and we got lots of meat. No questions asked, just big plates served up. Second round of meat? No problem, same big portions. It got to the point where I was somewhat concerned I might not have enough room for oranges. They also offer fried dough which was quite cool. The menu is for sure extensive and tbh the only thing that is worth ordering over and over and over again that will be worth your $$$ is the "Crystal Beef"! Thick cuts of beef. One of the places to be if you're craving hotpot or when winter comes. Came here for dinner after not having hotpot in a long time. Last time I was here was pre pandemic. They renovated this location and the restaurant is more spacious than what I remember. When you come in, there are seats on the left and another section on the right divided by a wall. For the soup base, they have plenty to choose from but ended up choosing a split pot. One is their Tomato Soup Base, the other is their Wild Mixed Mushroom Soup Base. The Tomato Soup Base is flavorful. There are a lot of ingredients that brings out the flavour. I can essentially say the same about the Wild Mixed Mushroom Soup Base. There are a lot of mushrooms that helps enhance the flavour. The service is pretty quick. We ordered our meats and ingredients and they arrived pretty quickly. Which is a good thing if you are hungry. I also liked how their plate mat has instructions on how long to cook some of the items. Overall, this is one of my go-to places for hotpot. The food is fresh and tasty, the decor is nice. There are a lot of sauces to choose from and I like that there are some fresh fruits for dessert. The downsides: -Two-thirds into our 2 hr limit meal, the food we ordered did not come out. We had to ask 3 times before SOME of it was served. We still had a lot of time to eat, so this type of business practice is not cool. - The vegetable portions (watercress, napa cabbage, daikon radish etc.) came in small bowls and was the serving for 1 person. Is it me or is this place very lowkey?? I hadn't heard of it ever until seeing it on Yelp when I did a search for hot pot when I had a craving. Anyways, the food here is excellent quality, the service is spotty (and not the best), price is on the higher side but the food quality lies heavier on the scale (atleast for me). I came for an early dinner on a Sunday evening before the restaurant got busy, so I was able to be seated right away (when I left at 7:30 there was a line at the door). I liked how for smaller tables they put food carts beside it which makes it a lot easier to store your food and dishes. They also have a station where you can make your own sauce and they also have some appetizer items like pickled radish and fruits. At first it's a bit overwhelming because there's so much selection, but they do have a guide for recommended sauces you can make along the station. I stuck with a simple mix of diced garlic, chilli paste, green onions, and soy sauce, which I found went really well with everything. I don't like that you HAVE to pay for a soup base, as there is no standard options that is included for free. So I got a big pot of the corn and pork bone base, which tasted good, I guess, but it soon gets diluted by the food you're cooking soon enough anyways. The meats were noticeably very good quality... I never got tired of the beef, and the spicy beef was great too. Everything was pretty on point in terms of food quality, with a few exceptions of average tasting items but nothing to complain about. The service wasn't the best. Aside from there being a bit of a language barrier because that's out of their control, I found myself having to wave servers over more than they took the initiative to check up. There were some items that never showed up, so I had to wave someone over and repeat my order more than once... which got a little frustrating. Overall, I enjoyed eating here. It is a bit on the pricier side when you have to pay the set AYCE charge which is decent as is and then pay for soup base additionally. I'm not a fan of how they don't have dessert options either... at desperate times you can get pineapple or orange slices but that just doesn't cut it for me! It's a necessity for an AYCE place in my opinion (all I ask for is some ice cream to feel complete). We took my mom here for Mother's Day dinner because we wanted to try something a bit different this year. Unable to make reservations, we came early around 5pm to avoid a line up and grab a table but the restaurant was only half full then. When we arrived, we were asked if we wanted the small or large pots of soup and was said small. We chose the all-you-can-eat option and 3 individual pots of soup to try (duck broth, mushroom and medium spicy house soup). The duck and mushroom soups were great...the spicy house soup was too spicy for us and my mom is a spice fan! Next we ordered a variety of the meats (beef, pork belly, seafood) and some veggies. The beef slices were super tasty - cooked super fast and were flavourful. The seafood (shrimp, squid, mussels and lobster balls) smelled extra fishy and unappetizing so we didn't order anymore. Mushrooms, cabbage and watercress greens were a nice accompaniment to break up the meat fest. The house noodles and vermicelli were also delicious. Enjoyed the buffet sauce bar and the oily, salty roasted peanuts! Oranges and grapes were not really replenished by the time we finished but we were happy with the Melona bars for dessert. First off, I wasn't able to do reservations (less than 5 people), but I walked in on a Sunday 6:30 and was able to get a seat within 30 minutes, so wasn't too bad! The selection of the base and the ingredients are with your server - the sauces were in the middle of the restaurant. The base you do have to pay extra for (my inner cheapness was extremely sad) but quickly forgotten after my friends and I ordered WAY too much food. There was such an array of choices that we ended up just ordering almost one of everything. The service was also good, like scarily good. As soon as a server saw us pick up a menu, we would get asked what we'd like to order. I don't know if the other reviewers just went during super busy times but, scarily fast service. All in all, it was a good time! It came out to be approx. $47 per person (with base split AND tip), so I have to say price is definitely something to consider when coming. After the good experience I had downtown, I decided to go to this branch in Scarborough. Just like the one downtown, the restaurant was bustling with people. The restaurant was clean, and service was prompt and friendly. Everything that was ordered, came. The liuyishou broth that I ordered was supposed to be mild spicy, but had more kick than anticipated. But it tasted really good though. The food were fresh and ready for cooking. No chunks of ice waiting to thaw. Lol The jugs of beer we ordered was kinda funny. Yellow beer, black beer. And I absolutely loved the "change face" show. That was entertaining. This wonderful experience does not come cheap. The all you can eat portion costs $27. It's extra for the pot of soup, depending on the size. And an extra $2 added during the weekend. My foodie friend from the hometown of hot pot recommended this place to me. They offered the best soup base in town in my opinion and the spicy level here was a level up compared to a lot of other hot pot restaurants. They had varieties of food choices.
