The food service was nice and organize. Kristine was at the counter helping us order in a timely manner. She was able to introduce us to a new menu. She was really good organizing the floor(mind you this was a really busy time of the day) I was really impressed on how she handled that. The food was amazing lots of variety and would definitely come back to try all the other flavour. Ambience of the place was nice and cozy. It was nice and clean. The sauce area was well stocks. I love how they maintain the cleanliness of the place. Thank you again for a nice experience. And another shout out to Kristine for helping us making sure we're taking care of while organizing the flow in the counter.
I've seen that it's really busy when driving by, so I was very excited to try this place. Found some time for a late lunch to avoid the wait. You fill your bowl with ingredients from the open fridges (pay by weight), and pick your soup. They lead you to an open table and you wait for your food. We got a dry pot and the malatang soup. Honestly, I was pretty disappointed with the food. Overall it was quite lacking. Don't expect the super flavourful stuff you might find a more Chinese-oriented malatang spot. I'd guess this is more tailored to the North American customer, dulled down in spice and making hot pot more approachable. Otherwise quality of ingredients seemed ok, and it's nice that it came with ice cream at the end. Price was a tad on the high side in my opinion.
I've been hearing about this place for a while now, and finally got to try it this weekend. We went on a Saturday, around 6:30. If you're thinking that's a busy time to go, you're right. I was able to queue virtually on our way over so that helped a bit. The setup with having the check in counter, ingredient bar and cashier just isn't setup in a very efficient manner in my opinion. They just kept checking people in and handing them bowls when there was no place to go. There was a good selection of ingredients and staff were constantly refilling the stations. The payment counters were also crowded and very close together. Once that was all done, we moved to the dining area and were seated shortly after. Got our sauces and waited patiently for our meal. The staff in the dining area were attentive. The vibe was lively. I had the tomato base and went for mild spice, the broth was delicious! I'm happy with my selection of ingredients. Dinner ended with an ice cream (free!) though we're not sure if it was chocolate or milk tea... either way it was a nice way to end the meal. Overall, the initial experience of getting checked in, picking your ingredients and paying is messy/chaotic and inefficient, but if you make it past that, the food and service is good. For that reason, I don't recommend going on a weekend or during peak dinner time.

Big Way is a build your own hot pot place. We joined the waitlist 30 minutes in advance of arriving and still waited 10-15 minutes to be seated. The entrance gets quite crowded at dinner time on the weekends but once you are called, you grab a bowl and begin filling it. At the cash, you pick your soup base and then they deliver your food to your table. I got the #1 signature soup base in mild. It was solid but not mind blowing. The food did seem fresh and the cook time was quick. We purchased a milk tea and got a Halloween drink on the house for spending over $30. The Halloween drink was not very good but can't complain over a free drink! They also have us sesame ice cream in charcoal cones on the house as desert. All in all, I would return in the winter for a quick meal if it wasn't peak dinner hours but if I had to wait very long, there are other hot pot places in Scarborough on par or better then Big Way.
This place is great, but can be pricey! The first thing you do is get handed an empty bowl. You walk over to the raw food station and put in whatever items you want. Then they weigh your selections, you choose a soup base and then they take your bowl away to cook it up. Be careful, as the price goes up quite quick! I really enjoyed the selection, and added a lot to the bowl. It was well worth it, as I had a big appetite, and the big bowl was so satisfying. There's also a DIY sauce station! The evenings here will be quite busy, so expect a line up and a wait. The food it great but I wouldn't line up for it.
Checked out Big Way Hot Pot in Scarborough, but honestly it didn't live up to the ones I've tried in Vancouver. Ingredients were fresh, but the experience still felt underwhelming. The sauce stations were either empty or messy, and overall the place just didn't feel well kept. I really wanted to love it since I had such a great time at Big Way in Vancouver, but here it just wasn't worth it, even if the price can be affordable depending on what you add to your pot.
Malatang place tucked away in the corner of Bridlewood Mall. They have good drink deals, and the build-your-own bowl has so many options to choose from. You pay by weight, so things can add up quickly. Don't get too excited, like I did, lol! Some highlights for me were the abalone and xiaolongxia. They also have a sauce station where you can combine your own small bowls of sauce. The variety of broths they offer is also more than what I see at the other places. Miso, sa cha, tom yum, and kimchi! The kimchi actually tastes like good kimchi soup (spoken as a Korean), so I was impressed. You can also choose the spice level. Complimentary ice cream was quite interesting. They rotate flavours, and the day I visited, it was rose. Nice and refreshing after having some numbing spice. The place is very spacious with plenty of seats. Service is fast and efficient. Would love to go back to try more flavour combinations.
Fun experience. We visited at 3:45pm and it wasn't busy. We were able to take advantage of their Happy Hour which includes a free specific drink and an ice cream. Overall total was approx $41 not including tip. Food: We got the #1 Spicy Malatang and #9 Spicy Szechuan Dry. #1 - tasted good but didn't stand out - got Mild spicy level and was very mild and barely spicy #9 - tasted delicious and I would come back and order it again - got Medium spicy level and it wasn't even as spicy as Sriracha, it was just right with the spiciness for me - paying extra for cheese made it creamier i believe but as the dish gets less warm, the cheese will become less creamy (I'd still add cheese though) - Including the Shin Ramen definitely made the dish Toppings: - I got too many fish balls which made me feel full quicker - I would prefer to add more beef rolls instead of fish balls - maybe I'm wrong but I think I was missing some beef rolls after they served it to me from cooking it - there's no bean curd rolls but they have bean curd Sauce Bar - various sauces and topping but I didn't see any sesame seeds or hoisin sauce - my go-to sauce = 2tbsp Oyster Sauce, 1 tbsp Soy sauce, 1TBSP peanut sauce, green onion, sesame oil Drinks - the cold green tea was a great choice for me, it had the perfect amount of sweetness - mango lemonade was a bit too lemony and sour Service: Amazing! Staff were by the door explaining the Specials and how it works. He told us if we were very close in guessing the price of our meal that we get a free bowl. Unfortunately, I was wrong.
There may be bit of a wait but the line moves fasts. The staff ensures there are tables available before letting you grab food. You can pick whatever toppings you want before they weigh your bucket of food at the cash. You can pick different soup bases or even do a stir fry and drinks. They have quite a number of drinks to choose from. There is a nice selection of toppings. For protein there have a lot of seafood and a bit each of beef, lamb, pork and chicken. Lots of veggies and noodles selection and fish balls. I got the Tom yum soup base and it was pretty good! At the end of the meal we each got a mini matcha softserve. Will be back!
They have a virtual wait list!!! Fewer ingredients I think compared to souper. The sauce bar was low and wasn't restocked. This also comes with complimentary ice cream.
When you come, be prepared for a little bit of a wait. This place was packed when we arrived. They did not follow the waitlist for the evening, so it was first come first serve. The place is nosy and bustling with hungry patrons. The staff are helpful. There's the perfect amount of selection of meat, veg and carb. The signature broth is ok, but lacking any kick in flavour and depth. Definitely a cool place.
So excited to try Big Way Hot Pot after seeing it all over social media in Vancouver. How exciting that it's now in Toronto as well. It's a pay by weight type of hot pot/ soupy noodle so the combo options are really endless here. Walking in, you get greeted by a staff member that gives you a bowl and tongs to grab your ingredients. There's a lot of ingredients to pick from ranging from seafood, meats, vegg and carbs. The area to grab your food is super crowded though, since there are a lot of people wanting to dine in, so it's quite congested, especially when everyone is standing around taking a look at their options. It doesn't help that their cash is in the same area as the ingredients, making it even more congested when people are trying to pay. After you pick your items, you go to the cash and pick your soup base and drinks as well. You pay by weight and get seated yourself. There is a self serve sauce bar that you can make your own concoction with. The hot pot comes out pretty quickly and I'd say my tomato broth was quite delicious and flavourful. The best part of the meal is the free matcha softserve you get at the end. Overall, great experience although the location was a bit hot during the summer. Not enough AC with the amount of hot soups around and the number of people/ body heat. Can't wait to be back, and can see the winter months being even busier here.

This is a new concept for us US-East Coasters and we enjoyed the customer service and the process of how to get your ingredients and how they served your bowl. So, how this works is you get your pot/bowl, get the ingredients you want first, they scale your bowl on how much to charge you, then you select your broth. I didn't want to die that night, so I got the Collagen Bone Broth. Very simple! You can also make your own dipping sauce on the side which made it very convenient if you got a simple broth like me. Restaurant is very modern and hip. I love how things were kept clean, such as the table, floor, stations to get your sauce. We ended with getting the matcha ice cream which was really good! Highly recommend this spot, for sureeee! read more
Located at plaza mcowan and finch. Free parking in the plaza. Walking in you get the bowls and tongs to grab the hot pot ingredients from the wall. It's pay by weight so the more you get the more it costs. Different soup base was nice I got the bone broth. There was a few people ahead of us at lunch and it can get a bit crowded in that area. Some of the fish and chicken looked a bit questionable. Anyways you pay at the counter and lunch it comes with a drink and small ice cream at the end. You get a # and the food will be brought to you when it's ready. There is a sauce bar where you can combine sauces toppings. Soup was nice not too salty or strong. I ordered with a couple others however my hot pot came last to the point where the others were more or less done eating even though we paid the same time and I could not enjoy because it was lunch and only so much time to eat. Definitely at least 25 minutes wait while I watch everyone else get their hot pot as we all laid around the same time. Because towards after initial entering there was not another large group of people having lunch. So factor in how busy the line is and how long you will wait to receive your food. I think it is nice you can choose what you want and the amount you want to eat. However it could be slow wait to get your meal. read more
I have been to a few malatang and I had high hopes for this one... it did not meet my expectations. I joined the waitlist and got called when my table was ready. The area to pick up a bowl was hectic. Very crowded space between picking ingredients and paying. You don't get a table until you pick up your bowl + paid. Everything was just stressful - lots of people, I am in my bulky jacket, holding my purse, etc. The food took some time to come out. Probably around 30 minutes... Ingredients were missing from some of our bowls. And some of the stuff was overcooked. The kimchi soup also had little soup and was very thick??? All the soups were salty but not particularly fragrant or super flavourful. As someone who loves soup noodles, I was not impressed. The best part of the meal was the ice cream. They had a seasonal flavour, ube, which was good but on the sweeter side. The matcha ice cream was great - and my favourite part of my meal. Our bowls ranged from $18 to $30 per a bowl. It's an additional $2 to add cheese and $3 do a bowl of rice. The restaurant can get very busy on a weekend evening, and noisy! read more

Big Way Hot Pot, the newest additional to the ever changing food offering at Woodside Square. Monday - Friday before 5:00 pm with the free offer of a choice of drink!! That sounds great. Step One: Pick your ingredients (charged by weight, so don't get too carried away) Step Two: Pick your soup base (spicy always my to go) Step Three: Pay and find a table and your food will be delivered Step Four: Self Served Condiments to mix your own dipping sauces Step Five: Enjoy and ask for your soft serve ice cream Service is friendly and efficient. The self serve area is clean. The food is fresh. I think I will be back. read more
I love malatang and big way is a staple on the east coast. Glad they opened their first location in Toronto. 3.69$/100 grams which is standard pricing. My big way usually costs around 15-17$ plus tax and tip. Definitely join waitlist online before going as the place is super popular since they've just opened. read more

My family are BIG FANS of Big Way Hotpot and we've already visited four times since it opened. What stands out is how affordable it is compared to other hotpot spots, plus the impressive variety of fresh ingredients you can add to your bowl. Dinner waits can be long, especially on Fridays and weekends, so I highly recommend joining the waitlist 1-2 hours ahead. The atmosphere feels upscale with stylish lighting and comfortable seating, making it a great spot for groups or casual dining. While I'm not a huge fan of the meatballs, the vegetables, sliced beef and lamb, sausages, dumplings, and imitation crab are consistently delicious. The classic mala tang broth is flavorful but mild on spice--if you like heat, definitely opt for the "Big Way" spice level. A must-try sauce recipe is their signature sauce blend--follow the recipe featured on the wall for a perfect balance of flavours. For noodles, I suggest vermicelli or the individual hand-pulled strands if you want something light without adding too much weight to your bowl. Overall, Big Way Hotpot offers a customizable, tasty, and budget-friendly hotpot experience with attentive service and a welcoming vibe. We tried the Miso Broth and Sa Cha broth and both were delicious! I asked for Mild spicy on the Miso Broth and it ended up being pretty spicy but still enjoyable. The price for the ingredients was about $38/kg which seemed reasonable to me, my 400g bowl was only around $16. However I was prioritizing grabbing high value-to-weight ratio items, like spinach and deluxe beef slices. I really enjoyed my hot pot and all the meat seemed to be great quality. I would definitely come back here again to try a different soup base. It's also really nice that you get a free ice cream cone at the end of the meal! read more

My partner and I LOVE Big Way. We've been about 5 times since they opened. The best time to go is during their Happy Hour as you get a free drink (usually green tea or strawberry lemonade), your meal, and dessert for just the price of the meal - it's a fantastic deal. I love that you can control how much your meal costs; as a small eater, I can put the exact amount of ingredients I know will make me full and it only costs about $10 after tax, which is unheard of in this economy lol. They have a wide variety of ingredients available, and different soups as well. My favourite is the Collagen Bone Broth, it tastes kind of like chicken noodle soup. The only thing I'd note is that sometimes the rib eye roll gets depleted and they don't refill it promptly - I'm pretty sure this is the most in-demand ingredient so they should be on top of filling it. When we first tried this spot, the service was a bit all over the place; opening pains, I assume, but they've seen figured things out and it's all very smooth now. This spot gets VERY busy on the weekends, I'm talking 100+ on the waitlist at times - so be sure to join well before you plan to go. read more
I loved this place, came here for the first time with friends and I really enjoyed the experience, service was amazing the hostess explained what to do while handing you a large bowl and clamps to picks up the meats, seafood, vegetables and noodles or even an egg you want to add to the soup. You choose the broth and can add cilantro and onions. While you wait at the table for your hot soup you can go up and get chilli sauce green onions soy sauce etc. at the condiment area. I enjoyed the ice cream for desert. Nice and clean and friendly atmosphere! Will be back. Remember they weigh your dish so keep that in mind when placing items in bowl. Surprise! Came here on a Saturday night. They do not let you make reservations so you have to go on a waitlist. I recommend you go on the waitlist an hour to an hour and a half before you actually wanna be there. The waitlist gets very long near peak eating times. The overall vibe of the restaurant is very clean and good except for the front area of the restaurant. There is no waiting area so everyone is crammed in the entrance. That's very small and very close to the entrance is where people fill their bowls with food. The restaurant is very poorly laid out with the food right in front of the door that keeps opening and closing and where people stand to wait. The food itself was fine. It wasn't super expensive but nothing crazy special to me. Food: - collagen bone broth: 3.5/5 stars. It was a very basic and good soup base, but I expected a bit more taste and flavour from it. I had to make my own sauce and put it in the soup to have some more flavour that I wanted if I were to come back I would try the miso soup. Overall, pretty mid experience. A bit overstimulating when you're getting your food, but the staff was very kind and accommodating. read more
I loved getting premium toppings at an affordable rate! Service was not bad considering they're still in the middle of training. Love the free tea and icecream with meal combo. They have a cute sauce station to make your own sauces but what's great about this place is that they actually have MSG along side the sugar and salt for your custom sauce! It seems like this place is quite popular because it was so crowded inside (the wait area was so packed and they had very large tables for very small groups which doesn't seem very thought out) and the wait took forever but it was worth it. read more

Yay!! Big way is finally in toronto, I had it before in vancouver so I definitely wanted to compare if it was going to be different or not. First, it's very busy LIKE very busy during dinner time. Chaotic waiting area. The front area where you pick your ingredients is where you pay for your food so it's tight. and then there's people waiting for tables too... they should've done the layout better but they have an online waitlist so it's convenient to just walk around the mall if you're waiting in line. The line goes very fast because this plc isn't like ayce. Some of the ingredients didn't look too fresh but It over-tasted good, but personally vancouver had better flavour. Theres no minimum spend which is great compared to other byow hotpot in toronto . You can make your own sauce as well to dip. I can say some people soups have less and some have more mine had a lot of soup. For interior it was cute, all the tables have a good layout and are very roomy with red and black interior. Free complimentary ice cream as well. what more can you ask for? The matcha was very strong I like it. The service and employees were very fast and efficient . They kept checking up on my table. Big Way Hotpot! I visited during the soft launch of the famous malatang restaurant from Vancouver. This place is an indecisive persons dream as for those who don't know, Big Way hotpot is a build your own hotpot restaurant! You select whichever ingredients you'd like and then select whatever soup base you'd like and enjoy! The soup base was a little underwhelming for me but the dry mix was delicious! They also have a sauce bar and free ice cream with every meal. Will definitely be back! 4/5 read more
Went to visit with my friends due to all the hype. Very different hotpot place. You pick all your toppings first and then they charge you by weight. Everybody's full was about $15-$25 including tax which isn't too bad. Place was kinda loud. The amount of soup people got was very uneven. Some people got more soup and some people got alot less. Soup taste for tomato and the collagen bone broth had little to no flavour. Very watered down. I went with the spiciest option but it was not very spicy at all. I would say similar to shin ramen or maybe a tiny little bit more spicy. Worth a try but probably will not go again. read more

Really enjoyed my experience at big way. We signed up on their online waitlist and we were able to get a table right away. They have good selection of noodles, veggies, and meat and alternatives. My favourite was the filled fishballs that had tobiko (i think) which gave it a nice crunch. Depending what you get, it can be quite pricey for the bowl at $3.69/100g. I got the mild ma la tang broth - it had good flavour without being too spicy. The complimentary ice cream dessert is a bonus There are a lot of tables inside but it seems they get busy around lunch/dinner so it would be best to put your name on their waitlist on their website to save time. read more
Finally got a chance to try Big Way after hearing all the hype about it especially from Vancouver friends. It's located in a big plaza with lots of parking. Managed to go on a Tuesday night where it was still fairly busy at 9 PM but managed to get a seat. The pick-you-own ingredients was right at the front, which did cause a bit of crowding issues which I imagine would be worse during busier times, but they staff is able to manage it well. The cashier was located right beside the ingredients area which again did cause a bit of a backup. The ingredient selection is decent, with a good mix of seafood, meat, veggies, carbs. Opted for the Malatang broth which was very flavorful and could have opted to go spicier. They have a make you own sauce bar which is also great for customization. Overall a great meal capped off with free ice cream. Definitely a great spot for customization especially with bigger groups with different tastes. Definitely well worth the hype and very exciting that they're expanding in the GTA. read more

Finally got to visit Big Way after they opened in Toronto! Was so excited to try this place out and it didn't disappoint at all. This spot has an amazing selection of ingredients to choose from, with lots that I hadn't seen before! In addition to the classic malatang goodies, they had cool items like smoked duck breast and chewy rice cake noodles - Would definitely recommend! It's slightly pricier than other malatang places in town but with the free ice cream and sauce bar I'm happy to pay more. My pot came out to less than $20! The place is nice and new, though the service is a bit slow probably due to the new opening. Will definitely be returning! read more

First time at Big Way & I can definitely see the popularity! The DIY concept from start to finish is intriguing, with fresh ingredients to choose from & quick service. Employees explain the process and help you along the way. I tried the collagen bone broth as my base & it was good. Some utensils could be cleaned a bit better though...pretty big space overall & recommend joining the online queue! It gets super busy on the weekend but weekdays are a bit better. read more

Place is nice, recommend you put yourself on the waitlist before going. Service was great. Recommend putting more meat into the pot compared to ramen. Raman noddle weighs the pot more compared to regular noodle. Broth #1 was good, if you like it to be spicy ask for big way hot read more

I was a little skeptical when coming here, as there was so much hype on social media about this place, but I can confirm it is worth the hype. Big way is a whole experience! When you come in, you pick up a pot and tongs, and then you can start your picking spree. On the wall they have a large selection of different items you can add into your soup. From fish balls, to seafood, to meats, to noodles, veggies, and that is only to name a few. After you finish picking your ingredients, you will have your pot weighed and then you pay. At the register you can pick which broth you want. I highly recommend the collagen. And then they will offer drinks. You then bring your given table number and select a table to sit at and the waiters and waitress will bring over the food. The inside Is very large, but not crowded at all. They have a sauce bar which is included. Im personally not a big eater so i love how i have full control of how much i receive. At the end of your meal you even get an ice cream. The first time i went it was vanilla, but the second time was green tea. Overall, 5/5 for food, service and ambience. read more

finally tried bigway!! i had a great experience, even with a big group of 6. the biggest tip for the best experience is get on their virtual waitlist! we got on the list maybe 2 hours before we were actually seated. when it was our turn, we were seated immediately by kind staff. speaking of staff members, every single person was patient and kind - cashiers, servers, everyone! inside was bright and had plenty of spots. it was comfortable for us as well. the food bar had plenty of options, constantly replenished. compared to other malatang spots, definitely the widest range. price-wise was pretty average. it was cheaper than my usual malatang spot because big way doesn't charge for soup. they also have a membership program which is really nice. after our hotpot, we got a matcha soft serve for free. overall, i'd definitely come back again. cool concept and great food. read more
