    Glorious pepperoni pizza
    Robert A.

We went exploring for the best pizza in town and found Sour Street! A strong selection of local craft beer is available but the pizza is the main event. There are a few tables and a bar to sit at...but the pizza is the main event. Perfect crust. Mozzarella like you read about in Mozzarella Magazine and the perfect set of toppings. We did a pepperoni and a delicious artichoke pizza. The service was friendly and helpful and the atmosphere felt beachy and local...but even if they punched me in the face and stole my car keys, I would still go back for the pizza.

I checked Sour out in East Beach Norfolk for the first time in March at Yelp Event. I really liked them and feel bad it's too me many months after this fun event to order for the whole family. In my opinion they offered an excellent wood fired pizza that rivaled what I've had in the area. My order of a Veggie, pepperoni and prosciutto & arugula was placed over the phone. The staff was awesome over the phone once I came back from hold. Just before Christmas they were very busy! The timetable was 20-25 minutes for pick up. I arrived about five minutes ahead. The woman who I talked with checked me out. You can tip on a card. Another gentleman said I was next up, then a few minutes later I got a push text "order ready". However, one of the pies was a bit overdone their standards. So they asked to remake it. The dining rooms had customers on a Tuesday before Christmas. The staff hustled! They offer beer and wine to in-house and take out. The replacement pizza was whipped out in around 5-7 minutes. They also included the other pie no charge. They apologized for the delay. Got the pies home to the family other delight trying a new place. The wood fired pizzas were a smash hit, especially the pepperoni. I personally thought the veggie was amazing. My wife liked the prosciutto the best! None were greasy, tasted cleaner than competitors. I would 100% recommend Sour.

Stopped by Sour Street Pizza for a quick bite and was pleasantly surprised! I had the arugula pine nut salad--super fresh with a tasty dressing. I do wish there were more cherry tomatoes, but that's just because I'm obsessed with them. The highlight was definitely the Margherita pizza. Watching them make it at the pizza bar was a fun touch while I waited, and the wood-fired crust was perfection. Each bite had the right balance of sauce, cheese, and fresh basil--simple but so satisfying. The space has a relaxed, cozy vibe with a self-serve water canteen and a great selection of beer and wine. Staff were friendly and efficient, and everything came out fast, making it a perfect grab-and-go spot. Also, shoutout to their awesome logo--it's definitely a place with character. Will be back!

Arugula & Prosciutto with Hot Honey

I've been wanting to go back to Sour Street Pizza since first being introduced to the pizzeria. Their pizza was so unique & wonderful that I immediately put it on my favorites list. Dinner at home had already been planned when a feature story on Sour Street Pizza aired on the local evening news. My dinner plans were immediately scrapped. I had to have a pizza from Sour Street! It was too late to get ready & go to the restaurant. So I was delighted to learn that a delivery service could bring the pizza I craved. After having sampled a number of their menu choices, there was no doubt of my choice. Sour Street's Arugula & Prosciutto Pizza is amazing. The Hot Honey adds a wonderful surprise taste to the featured ingredients. The sour dough crust, baked in a wood fired oven, compliments the pizza perfectly. The crust is thin but well formed, satisfying this NY Style pizza lover. It's even better (I can't believe I actually said that) because it combines the best features of both. Thin but not foldable was actually excellent. The pizza is smaller than the multiple size choices at other pizzerias. So if choosing only one pizza to share, it is best paired with one of their excellent salads. Sour Street Pizza is conveniently located at the spot where Shore Drive becomes East Ocean View Avenue, a very short distance west of the East Beach neighborhood. The restaurant is in a small, nicely maintained shopping center on the south side of the street. It appears to be a newly built center although I can't be certain. It's slightly west of my normal stops in the area. The pizzeria itself is clean and inviting with tables & bar seating. The open floor plan allows one to view the wood fired oven from the bar and a number of the tables. Regardless of your location, Sour Street is a pizzeria that you'll want to try. The unique flavors & excellent preparation are a thing of beauty.

A local gem! These folks used to be a food truck and are now a cute little spot right by the beach. Love supporting local business! The menu is nice and compact, focusing on high quality pizzas, couple of specials and two-three desert options, all Italian themed. There is also a decent wine selection! The service is very friendly and fast. You order at the register and get a number and the pizza is made right there in the wooden oven and brought out to you. The crust is decadently crispy, toppings are fresh and flavorful. This is a great spot I'll be coming back to!

Came in to satisfy pizza cravings on a Sunday afternoon and was very pleasantly surprised at this little gem of a restaurant along the ocean front. Met the owner Nathan who was working the counter and oven himself. Very pleasant atmosphere for a little restaurant. Great food! Tested with the gold standard of how a pizza joint does pizza with their classic pepperoni pie. Was absolutely delicious! The sourdough crust really added something. Had their meatball appetizer which was also extremely good! Rounded it out with a new desert that they have which is basically a ball of three different flavors of ice cream covered in dark chocolate and frozen. Really enjoyed this place and the personal service. Will definitely be back!

We've wanted to try the brick-and-mortar Sour Street for a while and we finally got a chance to! We got a Caesar Salad and their marinara pie. The salad was perfectly dressed and bright with touches of lemon juice cutting through the rich house-made dressing. The pizza was super thin, amazing crust texture and a perfect chewy texture, and the sourdough flavor really comes through!! Their sauce is fresh and the sliced garlic added The beach vibe and super kind and appreciative staff made lunch special. Sour Street is no doubt my new favorite thin-crust pizza in the area and I can't wait to try more of their pies!

On the review of our newly minted CM, Victoria, we decided to take a trip into Norfolk to try Sour Street Pizza. They are conveniently located at 4035 East Ocean View Avenue in the little strip shopping center, just across from East Beach. They have one been open for a couple of months but they are definitely cranking out some great pizza. We started out with the Arugula and Pine Nut Salad for $12. This is a generous portion and certainly enough to share, especially if you're getting pizza or another appetizer. I almost got the meatballs but I'm trying to not overindulge these days so I thought better of it. I did see an order of them nearby and they looked amazing. We had the Pepperoni Pizza and it was nothing short of Perfection! The crust was slightly crunchy on the outside but soft and delicious inside. This was my first experience with Sourdough pizza and I highly recommend it. The ingredients were fresh and really tasty. We added some Calabrian peppers because, Why not? We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves tonight. The staff was friendly and helpful, and they were pleased to hear that we drove all the way from Chesapeake to come here tonight! If you enjoy great pizza at a fair price, check out Sour Street Pizza, you'll be happy you did and you can rest assured that you are supporting our local restaurant community!

Sour street pizza is an amazing locally owned business that uses all quality ingredients to create their food. I was very impressed by the quaint but comfortable bar area of the pizzeria, you can tell the staff really loves their job because they were all very friendly and working incredibly hard to deliver some amazing pies. The beer and wine selection they offer has something for everyone! I would certainly return, perfect location for a casual date night!

Amazing food, friendly staff, and super cool pizza oven that really makes the place feel like a pizzeria. Good for takeout or eating in their small but modern shop in East Beach.

We've been getting the prosciutto & arugula pizza with hot honey for a while now and we love it. I recommend paying for the extra hot honey container cup if you like it with more hot honey on the pizza. The caesar salad is one of the best I've ever had. The home made dressing is excellent! The staff were friendly and quick to assist with the pickup order. The restaurant is very clean and modern. I would recommend trying the food here.

We have been huge fans of Sour Street since we first tried it at Cova over 3 years ago. I still remember being so excited when I heard about the new food truck that did not only wood-fired pizza, but also sourdough crust! Sour Street has been one of my favorite parts of living in Ocean View - so when we were finally able to make it out to their new brick and mortar- we were super excited. Not only is it somehow the same exact vibe as their food truck, it's also... better! It encapsulates the dark and edgy alternative vibe, but it fits well in clean, pristine East Beach. Walking in, we were immediately greeted by the hostess and ordered our pizza. The restaurant is truly a well-oiled machine; which is impressive as a newly owned place working through a Saturday lunch rush. There will always be a wait because each pizza is handmade and wood-fired. Keep that in mind, but I promise it's 100% worth it. The pizza? Just as good as I remembered it. Includes all the goodness of when it was a food truck. We got the pepperoni pizza with a hot honey drizzle - highly recommend trying it out. :) So excited to see what is in store for Sour Street's future.

Every Wednesday through this Summer Klassic Doughnuts food stand will be available at COVA 8-11 AM. They are in my opinion the best cake doughnuts in our area. They are a major draw for COVA. I purchased a few to go. With COVA I specifically wanted to try their coffee. I was blown away upon arrival to see their outdoor space. It's huge and beautiful. On a weekday at 11 AM without school even out was busy! The counter service was helpful and friendly. I told the staff I wanted a black coffee and was directed to what beans were being offered. I opted for an Ethiopian pour over. The coffee comes in a large and priced competitive. It took a bit with being busy and a pour over, but boy was the wait worth it. Probably the best coffee I've had in any recent memory and I drink a lot of coffee. The space inside is compact, but they offer a side patio that's covered too! COVA is late to offering coffee, maybe 5 years or so. However, they are established with brewing award winning beer. I chatted with a female brewer a minute who was so sweet and invited me back for a glass. They also have a bakery case with offerings that looked good. So I need to return. So exciting to share such a gem in East Beach. Parking may be an issue, but off street neighborhood streets are available.

When heading towards the bathroom, there was a huge chalkboard of posted events coming up as well as another section for events. I really do like a brewery that has events in the area to make people come and visit and it gives people a chance to experience cool events in the area while having a familiar place to go afterwards or before. Though there weren't many people in the restaurant at all, the kitchen was really backed up and it took a long time for our food to come out. This didn't make sense at all honestly, so I'm not sure what the issue was. Didn't get to snap a picture, but they had a decent little amount of arcade games inside, which was pretty cool; wasn't expecting to see those in there. Also one of the dessert items I wanted to try: the salted caramel brownie, was out of stock, so I did have to change my dessert choice; unfortunately. To drink: I got the Watermelon Limeade (8.5/10) it was easy to drink, honestly just tasted like a fruity soda with a very tiny buzz to it. I would've liked it a bit more if it was a little stronger. Also tried the Dirty Berry Mojito (10/10) I absolutely loved the flavor of this Mojito and it was a lot stronger than the limeade. Def had a buzz after finishing it. After I was done, felt like I should've really just ordered two of the mojitos only. To eat: I got half Strawbenero BBQ (9/10) and half Spicy Garlic Ranch (6.5/10) boneless wings. The strawberry-habanero mix wings were really different and unique. When I first bit into them, I tasted the strawberry glaze and after a few more chews, that's when the spice settled in. I think it was different and actually pretty good. As for the spicy garlic ranch wings, I feel like they really tasted like regular buffalo sauce wings. I'm not sure if the kitchen mixed up what flavors I ordered, but they def tasted like regular buffalo and not anything garlicky or ranch flavor. Also did a side order of the loaded tots (2/10) the tots were cooked nice and crispy, but the loaded toppings had absolutely no flavor. There was chilli and cheese and after even giving the chilli a taste by itself, there was truly no seasoning in it at all. I wouldn't order this again. Also got dessert: the Cracker Jack Cheesecake (10/10) cheesecake is my favorite dessert, and I love the toppings of caramel and toffee; pretty sure it was supposed to have a chocolate drizzle on it, but the caramel was really good so no complaints. I totally see myself going back again, their hotdogs on the menu looked really really good and I would like to try some more of their unique wing flavors. My overall rate of experience : 7.7/10

The last time I set foot inside their Pleasure House Rd location was at least 10 years ago. I celebrated my birthday there as my friends were kind enough to take me out. It was a Sunday morning and I sought out a place that offered brunch. I noticed 1608 was open and decided to head over, especially since I haven't visited them in ages. When I walked in, I noticed their dining room is dimly lit - much darker than I remember. I was greeted immediately by a kind hostess and she proceeded to sit me at a nearby table and provided me with menus (one food, one alcohol). I took my time looking over the food menu, and in the meantime I ordered a pint of Center of the Universe's Bald Irishman and a bottle of Boylan's Black Cherry soda (they do not have a soda fountain). What made this visit memorable was that 1608's bartender, Hunter, was an old acquaintance from back in my restaurant days. He spotted me and came over to say hi. After my meal, I continued to catch up with him at the bar. His presence made a pleasant experience even more fantastic. I thought I was hungry, so I ordered 2 dishes - Smoked Ham Fried Rice and the Breakfast Burrito. According to Hunter, every item is made fresh in house. After biting into each, you could tell that's true. Both the fried rice and burrito were delicious and boasted lots of flavor. Although I prefer my fried rice a bit simpler (if you give me just garlic fried rice, I am SET), 1608's fried rice (veggies, garlic, soy, basmati rice, 2 runny eggs, smoked ham) had a lot going on, which made for a flavorful dish. I liked the rice and the burrito (Korean style fried chicken breast, scrambled eggs, cilantro lime, cheddar, pico de gallo) a lot. I didn't finish either because it was a lot of food (I really thought I was hungry, haha). But these leftovers turned into a fantastic dinner later on. 1608 looked clean and organized, although I thought it was a little too dark inside, at least for brunch service. That's not a dealbreaker since everything from the food to the service was as excellent as I remember. I hope to return soon with my mom. Regardless, I'll find my way back eventually. Thank you, 1608 Crafthouse! And great seeing you again, Hunter! JV

The weather was…read moreabsolutely gorgeous, around 70 degrees, and we walk past there all the time, so it felt like the perfect night to finally stop in. Our Yelp Elite manager works there and had told me to come by, so I decided that was the night. I grabbed a glass of Moscato while we chatted, and she convinced me to order their hot honey pepperoni pizza to take home. I had literally just had pizza the night before at another event, so I wasn't planning on getting more, but she insisted I try it. I'm so glad I did. I'm not usually someone who goes for hot honey or anything spicy, but this pizza was incredible. The crust was perfectly cooked, the dough had great texture, and the balance between the sweetness of the honey and the pepperoni was surprisingly addictive. It was cheesy, flavorful, and honestly hard to stop eating. I had planned to take it straight home, but I had to sneak a bite while it was still hot. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming, and it's such a great neighborhood spot. It made for the perfect stop during a beautiful evening walk. I ended up taking the rest of the pizza home, and it was the perfect dinner while relaxing and winding down for the night. I'll definitely be back, especially now that I know how good their pizza is. Bold Mariner is a great local place with good energy and seriously good food.
